Diana, congratulations on your 21st! That is so awesome and romantic! Enjoy your romatic get away tomorrow.
Echo good job on pushing through and getting the exercise done. I don't know what parthas or daal is. I have never had lamb. I would try it though. Sounds tasty. I could taste the curry in the Korean food. I like that spice.
I had a very important test today. If I got a certain score I would get 1 more pt added to my final grade. Well I made it. I also was told I scored the highest my teacher has ever seen. She was ecstatic. I was bummed I got as many wrong as I did, but her enthusiasm made me ecstatic.
I really WANTED to exercise today, but my body just is so tired. My arms are sore from yesterday. I'm whooped. I will get back to it tomorrow. I did finish the day at 1400 cs. I had salmon and jasmine rice and stir fried broccoli for dinner.
Jendiet - aww thanks so much for the support!! I DID feel like crying but I thought to myself "well the reviewer was nice about it, s/he wasn't insulting like the last one, it was totally constructive and if I was still in the lab and er had the money for it, they are all tests I would do so no use getting mad at him/her" Also, my hubby is good at getting me to snap out of it. He gave me a hug, said he was sorry and said "well, let's try another one!" Did I mention he has pretty much been my PI for the last year? Yeah. He's had plenty of papers published so he totally revamped my paper to actually make sense. Sigh.
Echo - ARGH to these pounds!! At least you're closer to your goal so that's a good reason for slowing down. My excuse? Pie, chips and cashew squares. I worked on stroke therapeutics. Went in knowing nothing and two years later figured out that my PI knew just as much as I did about the subject.
Diana - Happy anniversary!! Enjoy your dinner, sounds yummy.
Emily - Hope your u-sound results show that it's not as bad as you think it is. I know you're worried about a possible surgery, so sending major your way.

As far as my weight goes, I've been really strict about the number of servings but I guess I need to up my exercise? Yesterday I jogged a mile and I walked another mile I think - I have to check my pedometer. This is so frustrating. At higher weights, I was able to eat what I eat now and lose up to 2-3 lbs a week. GRRR! I need to really re-think what I'm doing or just wait for a "whoosh" that these ladies talk about on the boards. I never had that pattern of weight loss, so we'll see.
Planned confessions:
Breffix - 1 cup skim milk + 1 tbsp cocoa powder, instant oatmeal, 1/3 cup raisins (415 cals)
Snack - 1 banana (120 cals)
Lunch - 5 ravioli + herb & cheese mix that comes with it (250 cals)
Snack - 1 apple (120 cals)
Dinner - vegetable curry, homemade rolls have to calculate cals for this one.
Dessert - 1 slice key lime pie (352 cals) Yikes...maybe I can make it a small sliver...
So excluding dinner, I will have: 1257 cals, so dinner can be 443 cals. Not bad! That's a regular sized dinner. Cool. I feel like I can stick to my cals today.
Exercise - 4.X mile walk, with some jogging in there.
Echo - ARGH to these pounds!! At least you're closer to your goal so that's a good reason for slowing down. My excuse? Pie, chips and cashew squares. I worked on stroke therapeutics. Went in knowing nothing and two years later figured out that my PI knew just as much as I did about the subject.

wow you jogged a mile. thats brilliant! i wish i could jog for a mile. thats really good Sunni!
i heard jillian michaels address this very issue. losing 100lb and losing the LAST 10lbs are two TOTALLY different animals.
when you're heavier, you have a higher RESTING metabolism, so yes you're right you can eat more and STILL lose weight, but when you get smaller, your resting metabolism decreases aswell.
the advice that jillian gives for the last 10lbs is :
and then eat your calories that equal your resting BMR, and then your calorie deficient, will come from your general activity from your day to day and from your exercise.
jillian michales also talks about how when you ONLY have 10lbs left to lose, which are called the vanity pounds, its much harder, cause your body is like, im healthy i want to hold onto this fat. so you have to UP your intensity and workout harder. so try interval training
JM talks about working out hard for 5 days a week and resting for 2 days, doing a combo of cardio and resistance training. and how when you're working out hard and intensely, you get an AFTERBURN , where your burning calories even at rest.
also JM talks about drinking your water and avoiding processed foods.
never workout for more than 2 hours in a day. and dont workout on an empty stomach, eat something before you workout, and wait 45minutes to 1hour depending on what you ate. for eg, maybe 6 almonds and half an apple and then wait 45 minutes and then workout.
Sunni, you're much closer to your goal weight than i am. i still have about 20lbs to lose, and you only have 9lbs to lose. you're so close! you're doing so great!! you will be at goal weight in no time
Diana - aww congrats on your anniversary. hope you have a great time!
Thanks Jendiet!!
parathas are flaky crispy flat breads. high in calories, but oh so tasty ! hehe and daal is like a curry lentil soup , which is low in calorie and tasty.
i'm thinking of what i can put on steamed vegetables to make them tastier? i was thinking a low fat marinara red sauce. i'm gonna try it , i got some recipes from the net.
anyone have any ideas of what to put on green vegetables to make them tasty?
congratulations on your test ~Jendiet ! you superstar you!
Emily, hope you get the results soon.
Sunni -aww bless you're hubby is so sweet.
wow impressive phd project! you're a total rockstar sunni!!
my brother dropped off my two copies of my thesis. HEAVY. i just checked through them all and made sure all the pages were in the right order. its all packed in my rucksac ready for tommorow! gonna go to the binding shop first thing in the morning and get it bound. and then gonna treat myself and go to the cinema
today i weighed in at 155.8lbs on my digital scale. but the amount of calories i ate today. i'm gonna see at least half a pound gain if not more on the scale tommorow! oh well, onwards and upwards. tommorow is another day!
I was just reading all the check-ins. You all are doing great!
I have lost 2 pounds. I will probably gain some back after tonight if only from water weight. I normally weight daily, but I will wait a couple days, now. I am doing well, so no sense in doing anything to upset myself.

My friend made me these things called filipino coconut macaroons. I am so glad I am being disciplined because there are over 30 of them. They are the little mini cupcake looking things that are like egg-custard coconut heaven.
I love coconut, especially dark chocolate + coconut. I looked at the ingredients I figure they have about 60 cs a piece. If you divide the ingredients by the amount she made.
I made brocolli cheese soup with deer meat and jasmine rice mixed in. Yum. The base for the soup was cream of mushroom.
I am sipping on my night cap of hot cocoa right now.
I had lots of gardening activity. my HR stayed in the fat burning zone...so I think it counts for areobic work, since I had alot of transferring to do.
Diana don't you worry about those anniversary calories. Hopefully you had a nice anniversary romp to burn some of them off, but if not, no matter.
Tomorrow is another day.
Echo those parathas sound yummy. I probably wouldn't put chocolate on broccoli. If you make a little bit of chicken broth to cook the veggies in sometimes they are tastier. I add chicken granules to mustard greens and spinach. I like cheese but only hard cheese--I hate velveeta, but some people love broccoli smothered in it. I also like to mix green beans and red kidney beans, a little butter, some spices, and garlic. It's pretty tasty..the bean stuff adds a coating of flavor too. Awesome on the THESIS getting on it's way.

Hear hear!! You're making excellent progress so I'm sure one off day won't derail you. Wow, you have 20 more lbs to go?? I thought you were almost done as well. I still haven't decided whether I want to stop at 145 or go all the way down to 135. I don't want to look skinny, I just want to look slim/athletic. The actual number's not important, it's more on my body look, if that makes any sense. I would love to have the personal satisfaction that I weigh in the 130s, but I won't go around tapping random people on the shoulder going "hey, I'm in the 130s, mwahahahaha " BUT they will be able to see me, so that's what counts (to me).
Way to go with the thesis!!

Mmmm...cheese I used to be SUCH a cheese addict before I moved here. I don't know why but I just stopped buying cheese. At home, my mom and I are cheese fiends so she would get a bar (?) of jalapeno cheddar. Mmmm. I used to eat more than the recommended ounce a day or whatever so it's a good thing we don't buy it here. Also, it kinda cuts into our grocery bill. I pay ~$4 for 3-4 bell peppers and I can make 2 dishes that feed us for 8 meals and to contrast that with $4 for the bar (ok I have NO idea what it's called for some reason) of cheese that only I will eat (hubby hates cheese) and most likely finish within 2 days *shameface*. Math doesn't work out so no cheese.
Echo - for the veggies, I would suggest some minced garlic (I love it, so I would put a lot), salt, some chopped green chillies or red chili powder if you like spice. Toss and serve! Yum. I especially love brussel sprouts or broccoli prepared this way. I first boil/steam these to soften them a little.

congrats on your 2lbs loss!

Lol Jendiet at chocolate on brocoli. thanks for all the great tips! i'm gonna try it today

thanks Sunni, kind of you to say,
but to be honest not making any progress, i'm stuck on maintenance mode - i realised something, WHY im not losing weight, i keep losing and gaining the same few pounds over and over again the past 7 weeks and i realised why.
today on the scale it says 158.8lbs, but i know some of its water weight and some of its food weight. as you cant physically gain 3lbs over night.
but still made me think why am i struggling - and its cause i keep having high calorie binge days! i looked over my food diary for the past 4 weeks. and realised each week i'm having 3-2 binge days! so all the work im doing on the "good days" is wiped out on the very high calorie days.
i think i suffer from overeating and binge syndrome. its like i know im binging, but i cant stop myself and just go into automatic and want to eat even though i know its gonna wipe out all my hard work. and its usually me just standing in the kitchen and eating, not even sitting down.
i need to plan my meals so by the time im hungry, im not just eating everything in sight, so im gonna really aim to eat every 3 and half hours- max 4 hours. cause i find if i go over that, then im overly hungry and then i just eat anything that is quick to hand.
so i'm wiping the slate CLEAN and starting afresh today! i'm gonna aim to go 26 days binge free. 26 days because thats exactly how many days till my cousin comes to stay with me (dec 16th) and we have a little competion going on and i really want to get down to 155lbs - 150lbs before she comes
so from today onwards, i'm gonna make a conscious decision to stop binge eating.
i'm going to stay at 1400-1500 calories daily. and get my calorie deficient through my exercise. i think when i strive to get down to 1200 or 1300 calories - its too low for me and then the next day i go and over eat. and i'm too grumpy at 1200/1300 calories.

LOL!! thats so funny!!! i think thats a great idea! exactly number is just a way to measure which way we're going, up , down or maintaining. i've been in maintenance mode for the past 7 weeks. even though ive been trying to lose weight.
Way to go with the thesis!!
aww thanks!
i'm such a doofus though! im so annoyed at myself. i was meant to get it bound today. but first i woke up late. and then was getting late cause the shop closes at 12.30pm today. so i get all ready rush to the train station, only to realise by the time i get there, that i have forgotten my travelcard ticket! gah!! so i walked all the way back home, but by the time i got back home it was too late. so i'm gonna have to go next week now. oh well never mind. im just annoyed at myself for waking up late, and 2 for letting myself get late. a few days wont make any difference though. but you know when you're just annoyed at yourself. its ironic, cause i packed my bag last night, my big bag with my thesis, and then my small handbag that i put everything in , my keys, my wallet everything except my train ticket lol.
i think it was just not meant to be today. maybe its a good thing cause all the other days they close later and only on fridays they close early. so i will go next tuesday calmly and it will be better, cause i also have to tell them to print me a copy of my title page. i cant wait to just hand it in and be done with it!

that sounds fab, thanks! will try that today
oh and i took the plunge and ordered Making the cut! i thought i needed something to kick me into gear! cant wait to get it next week i hear its good if you only have 20lbs left to lose, which is how much i have left to lose.

Yup, I'm the same way. Remember last week (or the week before last) where I was upset I wasn't losing any weight even though I was eating the same meals as before? Yeah, I didn't count the 3 servings of tortilla chips I ate throughout the day. Sometimes even more. I mean, I would "count" them but not face the reality of exactly how much I ate. Yesterday, I walked and stuck to my food on plan and this morning I had another small loss, so obviously I've been overeating.
Good for you for making a challenge for yourself!! I'm one of those people who works best with a challenge. I think the fear of weighing-in for the BL thread puts me in line, haha.
I also wanted to make another suggestion for those veggies. Why don't you roast them? Brush a baking pan with olive/veg oil and place the veggies on the pan. Sprinkle salt, pepper, chilli flakes and thinly sliced garlic. Bake them at 375F for 10 minutes or until tender. This works with steamed veggies too, you'll just have to bake them for 5-7 minutes.
Sorry to hear about your thesis, but yeah it's better to get it done when you're not rushed. Enjoy the moment! At my university, the grad office would take our thesis and bind it for the library. They gave us a couple of cotton sheets so we could print out our title page and get the original signatures on it. For our own personal copy, I have to do it on my own and while we're not living hand to mouth, spending ~$200 for getting it bound would make me feel guilty. I can't give them the pages and tell them to bind it, boo. They do all that + labor so obviously it will cost more. I could go to Kinko's but they don't do the hardcover binding that I want so when I get a job, the first thing I'll do is get mine bound.

Thanks Sunni, it definately helps not being the only one that suffers from this!
thats SO great about your loss, really reassuring, and it shows me, when one does eat right and on plan, you will see the loss.
you're so right, i also work great in challenges. i honestly beleive if it wasnt for the BL challenge, i would have gained alot of my weight back, its only cause i know i have a weekly weigh in infront of everyone, that i keep gaining and losing the same 2lbs lol.
wow that veggy recipe sounds delicious! awesome, thanks so much, i'm gonna try it tommorow thank you !
you should definately get your thesis bound when you get a job
and yep you're so right, best to get it done when im not rushed

well today i did not binge, hurrah! day 1 done lol.
my confession for today:
i was grumpy pants today. you know when your day just starts off bad. and i was just being grumpy and moody for no reason. but after i rode my bike. i felt so much better. i definately believe exercise really does release those endorphins, i know it sounds so cliche, but its so true. i instantly felt better after my exercise.
exercise:
45 minutes on the bike.
and then circuit training.
total calories burned 759 calories.
food:
lunch:
1 small homemade chocolate fairy cake and cream ~ 300cal (i made 12 in total last week and gave most of them away! none left now. i only ate a few of them myself).
1 fried egg 109cal
toast 120cal
ketchup 7cal
lunch>> 536cal
(missed breakfast)
dinner:
free green veggies 0cal
3 tbs sweetcorn 87cal
2 tbs home made marinara red sauce 42cal
14g grated cheese 58cal
1 roti and an extra bite 250cal
1 lamb kebab 58g 164cal
4g i cant believe its not butter 22cal
100ml strawberry low fat milkshake 65cal
daal - 120 calories
total dinner >> 808cal
snack:
6 almonds 42cal
14 raisens 14cal
dessert treat:
1 mini chocolate flake 80cal
12g chili lemon crisps 61cal
total calories for snacks: 197cal
total calories eaten 1525 stayed within my BMR calories. (my calculated BMR is 1524) i'm much happier eating my BMR calories. i like knowing that these are the calories i can eat and then having the permission to eat them. and also i get to have treats everyday, which is good psychologically. i'm happier with this approach. instead of striving to eat lower to get a better calorie deficient. instead will focus on doing more cardio and interval training to get better calorie deficients and leave my food calories alone. like jillian says think of calories as money, what do you want to spend your calorie £££ or $$$ on?
approximate calorie deficient = 1235 calories (predicted loss of approx~0.35 lb loss). - that basically balances out yesterdays binge day!
Hi Everyone:
I had an interesting start to my day. I still felt a little full after the big meal last night, so I didn't want my regular breakfast. I had a sample box of Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters Cereal. It said 170 calories. I poured it in my bowl and poured 1/2 cup 2% milk on it. There was alot more milk than cereal. After I ate it, I was reading the box again and it said that the box did not contain a full serving a cereal. Thank goodness I was not hungry. It was probably 1/3 of a cup, LOL. It is very important to read those packages! I probably didn't get enough calories in today. It will probably make up for the damage I did yesterday.
Confessions
Breakfast:
Fiber One Raisin Bran Clusters at most 80 calories, probably less
1/2 cup 2% milk 65 calories
