Surf, thanks for the kind (and articulate) post. Very gratifying, especially when the urge to play goes awol. But we'll be around, never fear. We just threaten to quit every so often to keep things interesting. And then someone like you makes that impossible... quitting, I mean.
About an hour ago there was a mini (VERY mini) earth tremor here in Central Canada. I knew I felt my building shudder briefly, then saw an anecdotal report on tv, then got a call from a neighbour. Our tremors are very wussy, but they make us feel important. No new challenge yet. |
Hi all! I'm off to bed but this is just a super brief note to say:
FitDay Challenge: day 2 complete Water Challenge: day 2 busted - back to day 1 tomorrow (that's what I get for trying to sneak a bottle of soda into an already WELL hydrated day plan...) Keep on Truckin! Erin :carrot: |

Day 2 done!
Hi, all. Just in and must get to bed to be up at 3:45 a.m.! I just did the crunches, so I've notched Day 2! :cp: Hurrah for me! But....I've been pigging out for days now. Really bad stuff....oh, well, I will try to stop this...I think I can...
Hello to all, tia, carla, chai, jolly, curly, CB, Fish, everyone else!! A special thanks to surfdream for your sweet post. I certainly can't imagine I have personally done anything to help you as I've, unfortunately, barely talked to you..sorry for the recent absence...but I am glad to hear you got something from the thread. Tell me though, how do you have "trouble eating enough?!?!?" Can I give you some pointers? :lol3: Well, it's going to be a very long day tomorrow. Wish me luck. And good luck to all of you! :goodluck: :kickcan: |
Hey everyone. Just an update. Not doing well on my challenges at all. This doesn't include today, as it's only a little after 9 and i haven't gotten out of bed yet...
1.) fruits/veggies (L1) - starting over again..back to day 1 2.) exercise every day (L2) - starting over :( 3.) No pop (L3) - Day 4 done, 2 pause days gone, 1 left So yeah..not doing so well. I can't seem to get through a good number of days. It's frustrating! But I'll keep trying. Everyone here is such good motivation!! Keep up the great work |
Ive got the opposite problem Red.. ever since i had the stomach bug last week.. nothing appeals to me.. and i have been having to make myself eat...
|
Good morning everyone. Even though it is early, I am feeling a bit more positive today. I just hope I can avoid the usual afternoon downward spiral into self-loathing. see, I'm obviously still a bit negative. SNAP OUT OF IT!!!:coach:
Don't know what my strategy will be for the next few days. DH is away until Wed. I either diet really well or totally blow it when he's gone. So far it's been Bad, REAL Bad. If I am very very careful, I might come out even by the time he comes home. I really really need to do this. I am tired of feeling this way. Gosh, does this sound familiar to you all? We all go through this every now and then. Thanks everyone, for being there for me! Love you guys!!! Curly, Hope you are feeling better soon! Surf, I see you are in Sac...me too! Van Gogh has to be seen in person. The colors he uses do not reproduce AT ALL. I was amazed the first time I saw one. JCT, I'm so impressed with your upbeat and enthusiastic attitude! My 3 kids drain me sometimes. But they really are my greatest joy as well!! Hello to everyone else out there! :thanks: Thanks again for all your encouragement! |
Day 9---------> total carbs 37
|
Hey all. I have to apologize for the poor me post, but here you have it.
It started this morning. My cousin and his family came over. I started feeling sorry for myself. While I do love my life, it is NOT where I imagined myself to be. 35, no husband, no family, and the only way I could be MORE single, is if I lived in a convent with my "sisters." Then, my dad called. He has been dealing with his own issues the last few years. He finally decided to track down a good buddy of his he had lost trackk of - only to find out the man died 2 years ago. I don't know. The combination just leaves me feeling low and alone. Give me a good kick out of it. I hope everyone else is having a good day. And by the way Tia, I LOVED your sick humor. My kind of humor  |
CBETA- no, not kidding about the "ice factor" here in LA, well not LA, OC... its been about 40 degrees out here at night. that's like below zero for us!!!

Come on, jolly, get the butt moving! or something like that. You said you needed a kick. I soooo hear you on the crappy life and situation. I think the same often. Really trying to stop that and try focusing on the good things that have been happening (may take some detective work)...trying to see what things may be forcing me to that next stage even...don't know, just chin up, don't like to hear you as down as I've been, by the sound of it. I'm reaching that level of disgust, however, where I will soon be revving back into gear and getting my act together. I was thinking today how, there are always going to be problems...does eating in a fearful state of panicky anxiety really help anything, no! It feels nice for a bit and then I just am going to feel worse because not only will the same problems be there but I will have added ones of excess weight and feeling gross. Sending you blue skies and sunshine!! :sunny:
|
30 with a wind chill of 17 here... and was 60 yesterday!
|
Thanks for the blue skies and sunshine, Red. Of course, a little bit of heat with that wouldn't have been bad
Like I said, there is nothing in my life I DISLIKE, just regretting the things that are missing. Maybe the convent thing isn't such a bad idea . . . I can sing a pretty mean "Climb Every Mountain" Anyway, thanks for the peptalk. Have a super day! |
omg i cant imagine being in 30 degree weather with that wind chill thing!!! i think i would freeze to death!!!!!!!
|
Day 10---------> total carbs 42
|
Friday--was my Paws day...(students had early exams, I can't do everything!), yesterday I did 25 mins. of wts./cardio...hitting Day #5 and a whopping total of 96 mins. for the week....(shameful, but I gotta start somewhere).
Today is nada,zero,zip....unless i get immunity for eating BAD SUSHI I will start over again tomorrow....my tummy rebels and the pains feel like LABOR!!!! ugh! However, the silver lining in this dark cloudy post is that I am able to do push-ups again....(not bad considering my shoulder fracture 3 months ago). I can only do 1 set of 8 and one set of 4, but I am pleased with my increasing strength! Red, your new Avitar makes me dizzy...it's the nausea I know, can't you just post a picture of that nice horse you always talk about.....? Carla, I think you have a bit of drill sargent in you.... |
slipped my mind...slip of the mind?...mind slip??
Whoops! Forgot to do my crunches yesterday...well, came home way too late and was in no shape to remember them...sigh. Oh well, I was celebrating getting a bit of work and found a great little Irish pub. I may restart, since I was only on Day 3...then again, with the pause days...I could keep going and still make it. I think I am also going to crack down today and start up some more challenges, so we will see...
curly -- You're rocking!! :strong: jolly -- How are you feeling? Don't regret things. Get out and make new things happen! You can, you can, you can. Oh, yes, and here come waves of warmth to bask in.....:beach: marble -- hope you feel better. What happened? Food poisoning? Sorry about the avatar....can't please everyone. :( jen, Apple, everyone else! A big hello! Hope to hear from you soon. |
Hey all. Soda challenge is complete today. Will start two new challenges tomorrow, and start my no chocolate challenge Wednesday for lent.
Have a great day all! |
Hey gals, I can't remember so which one of oyu has the anxiety problem. I think I can help. This is helping me a great deal. Send me a private message.
I have to start over again on my challenges. So now I am just down to the water challenge, for now. I am trying to see what will work for motivation. This one seems easy enough but we all know it isn't so I'm making it a level 3. I be starting tomorrow. Red, just let me slide this time, please, please, please, oh yeah red, guess what come to visit me today, lol. |
JOLLY - YOU MUST BE JUST FIZZING WITH PLEASURE AT COMPLETING THAT NO-SODA CHALLENGE!!!!! :bravo: :bravo: :woo::woo::woo::cb::woo::woo::woo: :bravo: :bravo: |
Tia, the tremor didn't shake anything loose, alas. It was a little 4.5, just enough to notice. As for anxiety, I'm considering dipping into my neurotic cat's new prescription. The only drawback: it's chicken flavoured. I'm curious to know what's helping you, if you don't mind PM'ing me.
|
Blah...I know you guys don't want any negative posts, so all I'm going to say is I'm starting all my challenges over tomorrow. Talk to you all later!
|
'nother day down!!
Did the crunches today, so that's another day notched, Day 3 done at last. I'm just taking yesterday as a pause and, oh, yes, this is a level 3. So, two more to go and since this isn't my first time around I think I'll be able to manage it. Fingers crossed....
jolly -- Congratulations!! :woo: :cp: :encore: :cp: :woo: Way to go you!!! And look at you with yet not just two, but THREE  new challenges ready to roll!! You are putting me to shame! :o tia -- Glad to hear your program is working for the anxiety. Thanks for offering your help. The water challenge is still a challenge. Good for you for sticking with that one. Just get back on the others. That's the name of the game, restart. There's no "letting you slide"...YOU are doing the work! :) carla -- You stay out of Zen's dope! :nono: Danzer -- Like tia, just pick up and go again! You can do it. I'm sorry you had a bad time of it, but there's no failing till you stop trying. Saw a good quote today...a bit tough but I think especially appropriate for the weight loss AND maintenance battle. "No failure is fatal. No success is final." Remember that and keep going! :dancer: Everyone else, a big hello! |
Just waving hi. :)
Running going good, need just 18 minutes to achieve my February goal, and that's going to happen tomorrow. :) Starting some more challenges these days as well, and I'm going to have to be VERY smart with the way I managed them and the potential pause days. Either I finish them by March 20th or 21st or... not at all, as there won't be the facilities to do, for example, stationary biking, on a camping trip! But I'm going to plan some other challenges for the trip. :) No time to read the posts... sorry... hope everyone is doing well though! :grouphug: |
Hi All!
Just a quick note to say I'm starting over on both of my challenges - water and fitday logging. I do so well during the week when I'm at school and have nothing to do but drink water, read and play with fitday. At home on the weekends, though - video games and soda abound....shame on me shame shame. Anyway. Today is a new day and I'm back on track! On a happier note, the scale seems finally to be moving in the right direction again. Soon (fingers crossed!) I will be below the big 220...here's hoping! Keep on Truckin! Erin :carrot: |
I'll start over on my challenge tomorrow or day after, the stomach is still queasy.....I don't know, maybe it's just a *bug*. I'd give $100. to be able to leave work and crawl back into bed, but it just ain't an option today....
Red, your Avatar is lovely, it's my problem.....everything makes me queasy the past 3 days..... Carla, I'll PM to you regarding anxiety meds.....although the cat's probably won't hurt you....Vet gave my cat 2mg. valium (1/2 tab only) when he had kidney stones....had the BF of that time, write a scrip for ME...1/2 for the cat, 1/2 for me...(so much cheaper too)! |
Way to go Jolly!!!! hope u feel better Marble.. tho i have to tell ya that stomch stuff lasts @ 2 weeks..
|
Happy Monday everyone! (Happy Tuesday to Australia and Japan!)
Today will be day 13 for both challenges, with no pause days left on any. That's only 9 days with no slip-ups - I think i can, I think i can.:D Friday I got in 30 minutes of walking and 1378 calories; Saturday was 35 minutes on the elliptical and 1582 calories; Sunday was 30 minutes on the elliptical and 2119 calories:o . We went out to dinner and I ate and drank too much. On the good news, I got a raise at work! I'm still broke because of student loans, but this certainly helps. CBETA - I am so glad you finally went to the doctor about your knee. Is the brace helping? Have you been in for your MRI yet? Red - I love the Klee avatar. I don't know very much about 20th century art, but I think that painting is lovely and peaceful. It is something I could just look at and relax in front of. Curly - omg! It was SO cold yesterday, wasn't it? I went to my girlfriend's baby shower, and had to stop for gas - I thought I was going to freeze to death waiting for the tank to fill. Plus I was wearing a skirt, although it turns out that everyone else wore jeans (who wears jeans to a baby shower? Well, everyone but me, i suppose!) Jolly - congratulations on finishing your soda challenge! :carrot: :carrot: Now, don't go crazy with soda just because you are done! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and I will talk to you all later! |
Hi all
Going to have to change my challenge – 7 days a week is just too much. My new challenge is 5 days a week for 21 days. Hey girls – my mind is playing tricks with me. I know I’ve lost almost 20 pounds. I used to be able to feel it… but now I just feel FAT again. .. which isn’t motivating! It makes me feel as if nothing will work. Has anyone else had that problem??? Way to go FishWoman!! Snap Apple – Snap. I 100% agree with you – Van gogh must be seen in person – you can’t really get the texture either with a photograph. Wow, raining like crazy here!! Hey Jolly Girl – I know what you mean… I sometimes, but rarely because it is too painful, think that I am not where I ever imagined I would be. ..Divorced. But even the pain of that divorce has eased over the years. I no longer plot how I would like to kill him. I read an article several years ago that 2 men got together each week and plotted how to kill their x’s in unbelievable ways – it was a way to let out their aggression. As long as you don’t act on it. Hmmmm – sounds like a plot for a movie or book… hmmmmm. Wish I could write a book. Bye now |
Hello everyone.
First things first::bravo: :cp: :bravo: :cp: :dancer: :woo: :woo: :high: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: JOLLY! WAY TO GO!!! Great job. I hope you are feeling better this week. A similar situation for my Mom, by the way. (what happened to your dad) :( Surf::rain: I like the rain, just seems like it's either feast or famine around here. Fish, congrats on the raise!:hat: That must feel great! Now you can do even more bargin hunting. I love hearing about your NY adventures. My office used to be on 5th and 30th. I would walk like a maniac on my lunch break, sometimes down to Union Square or Chelsea (sp?). Fun. Red, I hope your work situaton worked out...crunch crunch crunch... Hello to everyone else, I'm starting to run out of time... One more thing, I am joining the rather large group of restarters. I've exercised a bit but not enough to meet the challenge. So I start again today..... |
Hi guys!!
where does the wekend go... woooosh .. Today is a pause day for me... so its still day 10.. I have been having some problems with my blood sugar.. (way too low) so had to try to eat a bit more today.. calories were still on program... but my carbs were 84 ... |
Thanks all for the kudos, and congrats to everyone for their challenge and personal successes! You rock :cb: :cb:
I did start thinking about soda again, and was going to go get a diet/decaf - but preservered and had water. I am more craving :censored: as I know I am starting the no :censored: on Wednesday.( No, I am not Catholic, but it seemed like a fitting start.) However, the open hole where the temp filling for my root canal came out is a good deterent to a lot of sweets :( OK. So here are the two challenges: 1. Follow the menu, making sure I get in 3 servings each of fruits and veggies. Same rules apply as far as switching meals and/or substituting salads - level 3. 2. Measure all breakfasts and snacks - need either portion size or calorie count. Level 2. OK - I realize I am starting this one out slow. But I have never been very good at this, and want to get in the habit. I do a lot of work/business lunches, which is why I didn't throw that in quite yet. Day one - complete! Have a super night all  Oh yeah - I forgot :fr: I weighed in this morning (didn't count last week as I was at the gym at totally different times), and have lost 2.5 more pounds. I am not meeting my 2 pound average loss hope, but am going back down. |
dont fret jolly...the slower it comes off ... the longer it stays off..
i am really happy that i got off the soda... occasionally i will have a diet one.. like maybe 1 every 2 weeks.. but it really is true what they say about the water making your skin look so much better! |
Thanks so much for the quote Red! It's very motivating, and I'll keep it with me. :) So far so good on all challenges. Day 1 complete...again! LOL
Keep up the great work everyone! |
Thanks, Curly. I know, I am just happy the scale is moving down and want to keep iit that way. I got my taxes back last week and splurged on new workout clothes. It was supposed to be a reward for reaching a certain weight, but I didn't think the clothes I had would last that long:o I even made myself get hip length t-shirts, instead of mens XXXLs that went to my knees and could almost fit two of ME!
Off to the gym(hopefully - the soup I made last night had cabbage. 'Nuf said) and to work. Have a great day all. |
Four down!
I just sat down to write, but then remembered I hadn't done my crunches yet, so I got up and (then down) and did them! Hurrah! Day 4 in the bag! :dancer:
Danzer -- :cp: Congrats on Day 1. Glad you liked the quote. I am getting to like it even more than when I first heard it. Makes you keep going and not rest on your laurels, which is always a dangerous thing. curly -- So you're still staying off soda? That's great. Actually, I have found that I have gone off coffee much more than before. Don't know why, but I am for now. Still drink it in the morning but almost never later in the day. Saves on money too as I was getting into a Tullys cafe latte habit! :nono: jolly -- Good going on that soda save. That's right, I had forgotten about Lent. Would be a good time to start another challenge. Hmm. I'm thinking I'll start up the journaling tomorrow again, but force myself to analyze even more than I did on the first round, which would mean counting calories, possibly money spent on food as well. Yikes on your root canal. Is it finished? Does it hurt? Congrats on the 2.5 lbs down! :flow1: That's a lot better than I'm doing! Actually, I've been afraid to look. The weight tracker is probably not accurate anymore. I just couldn't take another bit of bad news... I like your new challenges. No. 2 sounds like something I should be doing too....will think about it. Good luck! :goodluck: Apple -- Hmm. I wonder what work situation I was talking about...probably just the general lack of sufficient work. That's the same, but some stuff is dribbling in. I'm also going to talk over some book ideas with a publisher this week. Keeping my fingers crossed they'll be receptive. If not, I have another publisher in mind, the paper I work at. And there is some other stuff on the back burner there as well, a column and regular racing articles for the paper. Wish me luck, please! Well, I'm glad to hear you're sticking with it, Apple, and restarting. Hang in there! :strong: surf -- What was your challenge again? While there is lots of room for options, the basic rules of this challenge are that you have to do something every day. It's about making habits, not like the other challenges, the week challenge or a certain goal by a certain date. Please, pick something you can do every day like we are or maybe you can just tweak what you were doing (I'm sorry I forgot what it was) or make the parameters vaguer. Tell me what you're doing and I can help. You're such a sweetie, I wouldn't want to lose you to another thread! I had to laugh on the guys plotting their ex's ends. Fish -- You are doing so well I'm sure you can make the next 9 days okay! Wow, congratulations on the raise!! Thank you, I'm glad you liked the avatar. I don't know much art modern art either, just found this picture because I always want to have a red balloon in my avatar, that's all. marb -- Too bad you have to restart, but glad you're sticking with it. Sure hope you feel better soon. chai -- Yes, there sure are a lot of restarters. Well, good luck to you too! With that scale moving, I hope it'll give you the motivation you need to stick with your challenge. :spin: Sushi -- Hi there! Are you between challenges or is the running still going? I'm sure you can think of something you'd like to make habit. Perhaps a bit of yoga or pilates, or journaling, no sugar or soda or something? Well, you've got ideas no doubt. Are you going to tell us what you're doing? ;) |
Things have gone tough in the Sushi-land... :p
Given that I still haven't met my mid-February weight goal and that a long camping trip is on the horizon, I've decided to toughen things up... Running challenge - Day 5 completed today, and my February goal of running 500 minutes has been met, and with an excess of 30 seconds at that! Going for 600 minutes in March, wish me luck! :) Day 2 of Food Diary (level 3) and Day 1 of Day Planner (level 2) complete as well. The other two challenges are to eat a salad each day (level 1), and 15 min stationary biking & no sweets (level 2, cannot be split, but I can have up to 3 mint sticks per day). To explain things - the food diary is of course a food journal, which must include time, quantity and notes on how hungry I was and whether the food eaten was a good decision. Phew! Day Planner Challenge involves setting a basic structure for the upcoming week and then planning the next 2 days in detail, given on what specifically needs to be taken care of. And then sticking with it of course! I have a ton of work to do in the next 3 weeks and a lot of distraction, so even though I always plan my days in advance, I thought that making it into a 21-day challenge would help things. :) So for example, this is the basic structure for this week... Monday - work, yoga; Tuesday - work, dog walk*; Wednesday - AM errands, work, skating; Thursday - phone (bookings), leave at 10 am to Neighbourhood, work in the afternoon; Friday - work, dog walk; Saturday - picnic with girls; Sunday - AM market then either hike or work; *this is not to say that the dog only gets walks a couple times per week... It's just when *I* take him for long ones. :) Other days it's either short walks, or long ones with other family members. :) Must run... the owner of this computer wants it back... :^: |
 Red, your wish has been granted... Sorry, I wasn't specific enough yesterday.
Yea, I do have lots of ideas... I'm already planning 21-day challenges for my trip... will probably be running and food diary, and maybe rope skipping...? Will see. :) For now I better get those 5 current ones moving along! :) |
I'll join in! Starting today... my goal will be Level 2 and that is to not eat anything that is outside of my eating plan. When I make it I will pay myself $10 into my cruise "blow" money. :)
