Hi everyone,
Wasn't able to check in yesterday 'cuz I had an incident with my laptop. http://bffc.net/icons2/virus.gif. I could only use our stationary computer in one of our rooms (office) to go online, and I don't like to sit in that room, I'd rather use my laptop in our living room. Reformatting the drive was not an option because I did not have a backup and I did not want to lose my files, so I worked on it almost the whole night. I tried everything but the darn thing would not start,http://bffc.net/icons2/enough.gifand I almost gave up, but with patience I got it up and running again :comp: virus free and all. I have also decided to make a back up with norton ghost. But with almost no sleep, I now feel :dizzy: :faint: , so I'll have to take a nap later.http://bffc.net/icons2/sleepy.gif
Anyway, I did good on all my challenges yesterday, and now I'm on my 4th day, and it's looking good so far 'cuz it's only 1:00PM, and I've already wrapped up my 30mins. exercise. I finally tried the belly dancing video my friend gave me, altho' I'm not sure if I have burned any calories 'cuz I did not break a sweat. It helps to add variety to my exercise routine, if I'm going to be successful in my daily exercise challenge. Actually, I'm not sure if I was really doing belly dancing :belly: I probably need to do it in front of a mirror. On second thoughts, maybe I don't want to see myself~ I'd probably die laughing!  http://bffc.net/icons2/rolling.gifhttp://bffc.net/icons2/rolling.gif

JCT~ On your water challenge ~ how will you ever find space for your diet sodas?http://bffc.net/icons2/pepsi.gif:D Just kidding.;)
Sorry to hear that you have to start over on your exercise challenge, that's OK, just keep on trying.:goodluck:
It is also TOM for me~ altho' I ate the right things yesterday the portions were probably not so good, and I almost skipped my exercise. Didn't exercise til about 9:00PM~ good thing I have this challenges going on to keep me in line. So today I started early to be sure it's over and done with.

Surf~ It's good you've started to post here as well. It is really a great thread.

Good luck with all your challenges everyone.http://bffc.net/icons2/dilemma.gifhttp://bffc.net/icons2/dilemma.gif

Yo, all! I am here, if not in written form, at least in spirit. Hang in there everyone! I will be back soon! :sunny:

jollygirl 02-23-2006 09:02 AM

Good morning all. Just coming in to get my dose of willpower dust for the day. Yorkie - think of how many calories you burn laughing! That could almost double your workout.

JCT - too bad you had to start over with your exercise challenge. Good luck keeping going.

Red - you are here in spirit? Do we need a medium to contact you instead of a thread  I crack myself up.

I don't know how long I will be able to keep up the :tread: and thinking I can jog. Especially as I think since I walked so much of it, I forget to stretch. Very very bad. I need a :drill: to keep me in line.

Everyone, have a great day full of good choices and awesome opportunities. Talk to you later.

Day #3----
23 mins. of cardio & wts....gasp!

Jolly, I have had the 2-pc. set of Suzanne Sommers Thigh-master for years....it is actually very effective (and you can hide it in the closet easily so no one KNOWS you bought it for 29.95), HSN had it on a sale-thing years ago.

The pc. for the outer thigh muscle is a little awkward but I keep the shades drawn and the animals don't dare laugh atme..

 That was a good one. But wait, what good is the double calories for if I'm dead? http://bffc.net/icons2/hehehe.gif ;)

That thing about contacting a medium to get in touch with Red was also hilarious. http://bffc.net/icons2/rolling.gif Sorry Red.http://bffc.net/icons2/worthy.gif

FishWoman 02-23-2006 11:05 AM

Grr, I had to take my second, and last, pause day for my exercise challenge yesterday. So that is still at day 8. I'm not upset (so much) at not exercising, i did, after all, just work two 20-hours days in a row. Somehow sleeping for three hours each night seemed much more important than working out;) . I am pretty sure the challenge is still doable though. I can do 13 days in a row of exercise, particularly as I vary what i am doing. I just need to not have anymore uber-crazy days at work!

What I'm upset about is that now my exercise and calories challenges are not on the same day:p I had 1224 calories yesterday (my midnight omelet pushing me into a reasonable calorie range! And as I was still up, because I finally finished working, I am counting that in yesterday's calories, not today's). So day 9 is done for the calorie challenge.

Tia - I think the idea of your challenge being just "WATP" rather than specifically the 1- mile or the 2-mile tape is a good idea. That way you have some flexibility, without having to start over if you can fit in only 1 mile somedays.

Jolly - sleep is good - as noted above, I miss it :D I'm back in NYC though, so it's easier to tell my DC people that I am busy here and can't work on anything else. What sort of riding lessons do you take? Are you another horse-gal like Red? Or bicycle? (I, unfortunately, can ride neither a horse nor a bike:o )

JCT - I feel ya on the Day 1, again, blues. But, we are bettering ourselves every day, even the days we start over. And it is SO nice when we finally get to day 21!

Yorkie - I tried belly dancing a few times! It seemed pretty cool, but I agree that what the dvd people do and what "we" do, are not always the same thing;) . But if you like it, keep at it! When I started doing yoga I was so depressed because i felt as if I would *never* get it. Now, a lot of the poses are still hard, and i definitely cannot go as deep on many as the instructor does, but I can feel in my body that I am so much better and stronger than when i started.

Hello to everyone else! I never was able to catch up with the weekend posts:dizzy: . Now this week is practically over. Oy vey, life is hectic. Talk to you all later!

CBETA 02-23-2006 01:07 PM

Morning of Thursday I am still at home...must run to work, or soon it will be 11am!... I've been so tired and lazy lately, I think because of lack of excercise... I might need a good kick to get me into the challenge mode again.... Motivation has been lost partially...

JCT Mom of 3 02-23-2006 02:45 PM

Heh heh heh. Yorkie and Jolly... you are crackin me up girls!!!! :lol3: Thank you for the :willpowerdust: Trust me yorkie... I float to the bathroom all night... :halfempty: (how do you do all those other smilies??? I don't have any coding experience... I have to pull up the menu in order to do these posts anyway!) Speaking of Belly dancing... I talked about that on the last post... they have instructional vids on OnDemand cable here... I was laughing at myself so hard I had to stop...I was in danger of waking the baby. :bb:

Red.... I hope your Spirit graces our emails very soon. Take care of you.

Marble... heh The thought of you hiding in a dark room to do thighmaster, like some sicko, had me busting up laughing!!!!! heh heh heh "Hello.. Margaret?... It's me again, Margaret... eh heh heh heh"

Fish... You are doing great though girl... I don't know how you handle those hours!!!!! Are you back on day 1 agin??? I got lost. Thanks for the pep talk :carrot: I will be ticking away soon.

CB... good luck girl! I hope you find the :cb: Mover bug!!! and get yourself feeling motivated. Perhaps it will bite me once or twice too!;)

Hugs all. I am working on my challenges but thought I would check in you all! TTYL!

chaigirl 02-23-2006 05:13 PM

Hey Everyone!!
I have been lurking the past few days, but now I’m back and ready with new challenges. New challenges for a new thread! Yay! I’m restarting a water challenge because my little trip off the wagon resulted in a great deal of water backsliding – I’ve been sipping one soda per day and not having any other water, so I’m back to the 80 oz/day challenge of old! I’m working on menu planning, but I don’t think that I’m ready for a challenge based on that one yet. My other challenge is putting all my food into fitday – I was really good at this at the beginning, but as I began to slide a bit, my journaling slid right along with my eating habits. Sooo – for now, my challenges stand thus:

Water Challenge, Level 2 – Day 1
FitDay Challenge Level 1 – Day 1 (assuming that I input my dinner, which I will)

Sushi! HOORAY! Challenge completed!

Tia: That’s great that you’re feeling ready to up the ante on your exercise – my butt isn’t even going to the gym these days. Don’t get discouraged with the gain, though - it happens to the best of us and you just get back up on the horse and try again.

Losingit: I love your wardrobe savings idea! I might have to start a little savings for myself, too!

CBeta: wow 700 calories/day is really low – I really like the protein powder stuff – I used to dump a tablespoon or so into smoothies. Hang in there with the carb monitoring!

Angel: Day 8! Woot! No Chips is hard – my boyfriend keeps tortilla chips on hand all the time and I just have to pretend they’re not there at all – otherwise I would stick my head in the bag…

JCT: have you thought about getting on some meds to regulate your cycles? I was super irregular and it turns out I have a hormone imbalance that is also part of why I’m fat and that can lead to diabetes – getting on BCPs to regulate it was one of the best things I ever did – it regulates moods and all sorts of other stuff for me, too.

Girlie: Wow that’s persistence to save your comp from a crash like that!

Howdy to everyone I didn’t mention and Welcome to the new folks!

Hang in there everybody!

Keep on Truckin!
Erin :carrot:

curlylocks 02-23-2006 07:58 PM

Day # 7! 50 total carbs!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

carla49 02-23-2006 08:28 PM

SOO-SHEE!!!
SOO-SHEE!!!

You've RUN up ANOTHER challenge!!

:carrot: :running: :running: :running: :cheer: :bravo: :cheer: :running: :running: :running::carrot:

And today is my Day 21 of the no-wine challenge. (Pause day yesterday.) I'll be taking an extended break now, maybe just a couple of week-at-a-time challenges. But I'll be dropping in nonetheless.

Tomorrow is the ninth day of my 12-day month of boot camp. Most of it's pretty good - and I can even see some improvement in some of the strength exercises. But it's all getting a little frustrating. There are between two and five of us present each time, and the other four (all men) are thinner, fitter, younger, and most important, have been doing this for several months already. And this week's instructor just isn't getting that she has to provide modifications for me for some of the more demanding exercises. It's like a big surprise every time I say I need a simpler version of something, and I'm getting tired of being centred out all the time. So I may not continue after next week after all. Sad to say, my ego is just too fragile, and since my reaction to that kind of stress is to jump into a vat of :censored:, it's counter-productive. (If I were to write an account of yesterday's food porn excesses, :drill: Red would inflict a public beating on me. Ooh baby!)

jollygirl 02-23-2006 08:42 PM

Hello all. Taking a moment to post a looooooooong one. OK. That sounded bad, somehow.

marble- I think the horse is working me harder than Suzanne would - and is more attractive. You know those shirts they used to have that said "Body by Bud" - well I am going to get one made that says "*** by Arabian"

Yorkie - You wonder what good doublecaloriesar if your laughing may kill you? Well - live hard, die young, and leave a good looking corpse???

Fish - why the 20 hour days? what do you do again? And while I like to ride bikes, and am trying tojoin a bicycle club, I am a horse girl through and through.

Cbeta - my motivation likes to take vacations to the Bahamas. You maywant to check there for yours!

JCT - glad to help you burn calories through laughter.

Chai - glad to see you.

Patience, Carla. Dont' compare yourself to anyone but yourself. Only your journey matters. YOu will get there. I too let the discouragement lead me to :censored: But it just isn't worth it.

I had a great day. Splurged a bit because I was feeling good about how my challenges were going, and got some acrylic wraps on my nails, which I have NEVER done. I let the tech talk me into it. Not real long though, but hopefully will allow mine to strengthen. Tough on the typing though.

Day 17 of the menu challenge and day 18 of the no soda challenge - complete. Have a good one all.

curlylocks 02-23-2006 09:45 PM

yeah carla dont u let her make u feel bad for asking for modifications.... you are paying her salary!!!! LMAO make her work for it!!!!

ooo ride a horse .. that is on my list of things to do one day!

Danzer5570 02-23-2006 10:27 PM

Just a quick update. I'm tired and want to go to bed..LOL. Hope everyone's doing well! There's so many posts in one day it's hard to read all of them!! I'll catch up tomorrow. LOL

1.) Eat 2 fruits/veggies every day (L1) - Day 1 done, 1 pause day left
2.) Exercise every day (L2) - Day 3 done, 1 pause day gone, 1 pause day left
3.) No pop (L3) - Day 3 done, 1 pause day gone, 2 pause days left

CBETA 02-24-2006 12:34 AM

Ok, so I went back pages and pages, to find my original goals...
Here they are

Challenge A - Gym: Level 3 (same rules as before) Start Date: 2/23 Day 1Challenge B - H2O: Level 2 (same rules as before) Start Date: 2/23 Day 1
Challenge C - Food: Level 2 (same rules as before) Start Date: I am not going to do this one for right now!
Challenge D - Carbs: Level 3 (I'd like to reduce the number of carbs I intake. Taking curly's suggestion, I am going to keep them under 60!). Start Day: 2/22 Day 2. Count=59
Challenge E - Lunch: Level 3 (I'd like to start eating my own lunches at work and at home, I feel like it's more wholesome. If I got something healthy at a friend's house or at the restoran the night before, I will count it as brought in lunch as well.) Start Date: 2/4 (I've actually been doing it already) Two pause days, out of three, have been used and today is Day 18th. I will be taking a pause one on Saturday so last day will be Monday. (At least one challenge while I am injured!)
Challenge F: Cleaning: This is so tough, I barelly have any time at all. I am always running around. House is such a mess, I can do better but nooo I like my laptop a lot more ;-) I've got to start something like this, so the plan is to clean up first and then practice upkeeping the order. If all goes well. Start day is Monday.
Goal: Other unrelated ideas: My job contract is comming to an end in March, so I must finish writing my resume and send it to so many people. I shall do that by 10th of March. Also I must do my taxes. I don't want last year's hussle of standing in line at 7am to mail them in. Never again. Must complete those by March 18th!
Congrats to everyone completing their challenges. Kudows to the ones continuoing on in this madness... :-)
As day 2 went away I've counted my carbs to the last minute. After workout, I came and was plugging on fitday what I can and cannot eat to make up to 60carbs.. :-) I so wanted to be under. Alright it's getting late and my message is too long. Off to drink the last bottle and sleep. Early wake up tomorrow for my doctor's apptm.
Have a good weekend and successful weigh-ins (those doing it in the next few days)

Sushi Penguin 02-24-2006 01:20 AM

Quick quick quicker... :dizzy:
Bugger me - had to take a pause day yesterday and feel horrible horrible horrible about it, for many reasons. But let's face it, I was so tired I fell asleep four times during the day, and could hardly drag my feet. So no running.
And only 18 minutes the day before - it was late, and I was tired... Hopefully today will go better. :) Even though I really don't feel like it :p -- blame the pause day, I knew it would make me feel like that. It's stinking hot, I need to be back home from running by 8:30 pm, and all that makes me want to do it even less... :p But I will. :)
So day 2 today, I suppose. And I only need 110 minutes to meet the Februrary goal of 500, so things aren't looking that bad. :)

Sadly, no tennis OR skating... Tennis coach did not get back to me. :frus: Didn't have enough time to drive to skating on Wed (it's 40 km one way), and was way too tired yesterday... will have to wait till Tuesday. No idea what to do about tennis, this guy just never gets back to me, and I don't like the other clubs I enquired with... and in less than a month, we're off for 3.5 weeks... So maybe I should wait till we get back in mid-April, especially since I don't want (or need) to spend money right now...

FishWoman 02-24-2006 10:59 AM

Yesterday was Day 10 for calories, at 1370, and Day 9 for exercise; I walked around the Chelsea and Flatiron neighborhoods for over an hour. I also found where the Barney's Warehouse sale is being held, and am totally going next week before it ends!

Chai - only a soda and no water all day? Tsk, tsk;) . But good for you for realizing that and making water part of your challenge again.

Curly - you are so disciplined at keeping your carbs down! How is the gazelle doing lately?

Carla! 21 days with no wine?!? Congratulations? Just kidding :p you are my hero for finishing that particular challenge - but I think that definitely puts you out of the fat chicks drunkards union:D . That is too bad about the boot camp - but I think you should at least stick out this 12-day period.

Hi to everyone else! Have a wonderful weekend!

jollygirl 02-24-2006 11:35 AM

Good morning, everyone. Interested in riding horses, Curly? It's easy - keep one leg on one side and one on theother. Facing forward is generally a good idea.

Danzer - I agree on the number of posts. Hard to keep up sometimes when you are busy.

CBeta - you have so many challenges - you are definitely the most challenged person here  OK so i have a sick sense of humor.

Sushi - my feet are dragging today too. I decided to do my yoga tape today, but was more interested in my pedicure and spots i had missed shaving than positions, so I decided perhaps I should try again tonight. Bad, Jolly, bad.

Other than that, it should be a good day. Everyone, have a great one!!

carla49 02-24-2006 11:43 AM

Just a quick flash post-boot camp. This morning I was the only participant to show up at boot camp, so there was an opportunity to chat with the problem instructor. All is now fine, she understood my issues, and we had a really good workout - TOTALLY adapted to me and my needs. I knew it could be fixed, just couldn't figure how to do it without getting all aggressive and wounded. So there goes my excuse for not re-upping! And I do realize that the feeling bad part has more to do with my personal insecurities than the instructor's intentions. But we are who we are, and it's always a stuggle working around our flaws. In any case, that mountain has returned to molehill status, and I'm good to go.

Fish, never fear, I'm still a card-carrying union member. Don't forget there were 3 pause days in that challenge, at least one of which I not only used but abused... Getting up at 5 am for boot camp has really put a crimp in my drinking habits. But I'm with the other members in spirit - even if it's not always in spirits...

Speaking of spirits, where is Red hiding these days??

Sushi, it sounds like the fitness gods are making things tough for you. You're welcome to come join my boot camp group...

CBETA 02-24-2006 01:41 PM

Back from the doctor's office about me. Very excited: I got a nice big brace (it's slides a little bit because my thy is so big, but otherwise if I correct it every so often it's good to go), received referral for 9 physical theraphy appointments (yes this time around I will continue all of the excercises given, not like slacking last time, I am determined to make that knee stronger), and they are working with insurance to pre-approve my MRI, that will tell me all that is ripped in my knee. Nice guy, spent like 45 min with me, I think it will get better I just need to work at it...

CBETA 02-24-2006 01:42 PM

Oh Oh Oh, and by the way Friday is my weight in day. 245 as of this morning, and my old jeans' belt: I moved one hole up...it's tight, but not bad...

jen1121 02-24-2006 02:43 PM

hey guys, i have been really busy lately and couldnt come on and post, but here i am... i have been pretty good with my challenges, but i have to fess up and say that my challenge to not eat after 8 was too difficult for me. i go to work at 5 and get off work at 10, so i dont get a lunch break... yeah it sucks... so i started over today.. haha another day 21 for me! tonight i get off work at 6, so i am heading to the gym! i havent been there in so long, im getting kind of nervous!! haha, well gtg.. i hope all y'all are doing well

love you lots,
jen

tiajuanna 02-24-2006 02:44 PM

Hey CBETA, maybe I looked over it earlier, but what happened to your knee? I like your determination.
Carla congratulations on your challenge. Glad things worked out for you.
I paused on WATP and water yesterday. But I have completed WATP today for day 2. I don't know if Itold you all but I am making all of my challenges level 3's. So that leaves 2 pause days on WATP and water and 3 for my food journal.

Where are you red?
Oh, I am day 3 for journaling.

jen1121 02-24-2006 02:48 PM

yeah i think since im starting new again today i want new challenges:
1. Drink 12 glasses of water per day
2. Go to the gym after work, no matter how cold it is outside haha
3. Be able to reach Day 21

redballoon 02-24-2006 05:28 PM

Good morning, all. I am back from the beach. :beach: Didn't get much of a tan, but enjoyed listening to the waves. Also got in a bit of running :running: and sets of crunches, but had a day off in between so can't call it a stealth. I am declaring today (Saturday) Day 2 of a crunch and back exercise challenge...10 sets of 20 reps of ab work and about 100 reps of some sort of back exercise..I have been doing the alternate arm and leg raises and think I am getting more even. I have always been stronger on one side from having carried a heavy duffel bag on my shoulder for years. It affects my riding a lot and I have taken great pains to even out. It's getting better.

So, that's an easy challenge but it's all I want to muster for now. If I don't do something I just have no motivation to be here at all, so I am keeping it at that.

So, I have changed my avatar again and am giving you all a little art appreciation lesson with a Paul Klee red balloon. Taking the cultural experience up a notch here!

yes, almost two weeks ago I twisted my left knee, to the point of having to get on crutches and limp away. Today I finally got an appointment in with an ortho...physical theraphy is next on my list. Must find one and get it pre-approved first though.

Chai, Actually no I haven't, my cycles are typically like clockwork. I can usually plan a vacation around them. However... when I got pregnant in 2004 that obviously changed with the hormones. I nurse my son full-time and so I didn't have a regular cycle until he was 10mos. That isn't normal for me though... with my daughters i was back on my schedule by 3 or 4mos. So I am just being whiney.... I liked not haveing to worry about cramps and the like.

I'm still here.. busy few days... long weekend... I'll try to post later.

curlylocks 02-24-2006 06:35 PM

no more TOM for me... just hot flashes lol

tiajuanna 02-24-2006 06:47 PM

I hope you find a good PT CBETA.

Finished with all challenges for today unless I eat soemthing else, which is doubtful.

Apple Blossom 02-24-2006 06:48 PM

Hey Red! I love the new balloon! Paul Klee is one of my all time favorites, Probably top 5.
I have seriously been thinking about taking a break from 3FC completely, since I don't seem to have the proper motivation for it. But then I decided that I can stick to the exercise challenge at least. So I'll still be around and I'll root you guys on if I have the time and motivation
That being said, I'm debating whether or not I should restart. I'm on day 5 with 2 pause days already used up. Can I go more than 2 weeks with out missing a day? I guess I'll give it a shot.
So best wishes to all and I'll at least be lurking...

jollygirl 02-24-2006 08:28 PM

Eveningall. Days . . . oh whatever the heck i am on done. Goodday, just missed a workout. But, I have been working pretty hard this week, so I am not beating myself up over it.

Apple, we all have periods where we need more than we can give. Hang in there.

Cbeta - glad you are taking the knee seriously, and congrats on the weight.

Everyone else . . . ok, my train of thought seriously derailed. I didn't get my daily vacation nap in, so I am out of it. Have a great evening, adn talk more later.

redballoon 02-24-2006 08:41 PM

Glad to hear Klee's a favorite of yours, Apple. Didn't want you having any more nightmares! Heh, I'm the same as you now, seriously would like to just take a sabbatical from 3fc. It's not like I don't do anything. There is no chance of me truly ballooning up or hitting the skids on exercise, but, I do like being a part of things here and if I just ease off a little on the posting and keep to a simple challenge, I guess I can swing this too. Hope to see you here.

Thanks, others, for the avatar compliments. :thanks:

carla49 02-24-2006 08:42 PM

Heh, thanks carla!! Read about your tribulations at boot camp. Glad that got ironed it. I'm with whoever said, you pay their salaries. Get in there and make a nuisance of yourself!!

Hey Red and Carla - please stay with us. I only started in January, but it has been so motivating.... even when I am not. I just remember that there are so many other people out there that have some of the same challenges we do. I wish I could just blink my eyes and have my motivation return. But coming to this site keeps me in touch with the need to live a healthy lifestyle.

Hey, I even got back to my exercise today - but I am having trouble eating enough. Been on a plateau for 2 weeks, but you chickies keep me motivated:angel:

Used to love Klee when I was younger. Now he doesn't appeal to me as much. My all time favorite is Van Gogh. The first time I saw his paintings I had to wait in line for 2 hours. When I walked from painting to painting, I began to cry. Emotion, not sure which emotion is was, just poured out of me. Amazing that someone's art can reach you that way. Just like great ballet, great classical music, and great sex!
