Good morning all. I just finished my treadmill workout :woops: I am beat. Plus, the instructor has pretty much convinced me to try her buttkicking workouts:yikes: What was I thinking??? Then, to top off my morning, in a complete blonde moment, I managed to slam my head into the car when I got in - :stars: I have ice on my head as we speak.

OK. Enough whining. Congrats to Chai, Red, and Dance for meeting your challenges for the day. Cbeta - I forgot to ask, how is your knee doing?? And congrats to you for deciding to get some personal trainer sessions. We will have to compare notes!

Have a super day all

Misti in Seattle 03-10-2006 09:00 AM

Oh no jollygirl... hope your head gets better fast!!! Good job on the exercise. I love to do it in the morning but have to leave for work at 6 AM so never get it in. On Sat mornings I sometimes get up really early and go for it.

FishWoman 03-10-2006 11:41 AM

Day 4 done

I only have a couple of minutes, but wanted to pop in and say days 3 (1245) and 4 (1455) of my calorie challenge are completed.

I am back in DC for two days as of last night and it is so nice out! We are supposed to hit 70 degrees today:carrot: I am *trying* to sneak out early, but have to meet with one of the senior associates "later this afternoon." I understand he is busy, but I have spring fever and want to spend a little time with my hubby before I go back to NYC for another 10 days:D

Have a great weekend, everyone!!

An actual wall? Or a metaphorical wall?

I ask because if it's an actual wall, we are going to strap you to the bed so you can't fall down and hurt yourself AGAIN;)

If it is a metaphorical wall, I have two comments for you:
1) at least you are wearing hot leather skirts and size 10 levis; and
2) seriously? I can totally empathize with you, as I have been at 137 for
at least a month now, and cannot seem to lose anymore.:dizzy:

Hang in there, sweetie - we are all here for you:hug:

redballoon 03-10-2006 06:52 PM

embarking on Day 15....

Well, it's time to get out to work again. Seems all I do is go to work and then home and then sleep and that's it. My cats barely see me.

As a little musing....I was out drinking with three of my bodybuilding friends, one Japanese and two Iranians the other night. I haven't had so much fun in a long time. Though I was regretting having set the date when I have no money and can't be spending on things like socializing, I needn't have worried. They kept buying the rounds. I only bought one and that was exactly the amount I had wanted to spend that night, no more. When I lived in Germany and ran a student bar, my Iranian friends were the ones who helped me out when I was in dire need. I think there is something about people who have had tough times in their backgrounds, either because they have grown up in a poor country or through personal difficult times that allows them to just see through the words to the heart. Words are not so important. It's a great feeling. When times are really tough, people show their true colors.

marble -- What was that wall?! Hope you're ok, just a bit dazed and ready to start running again once you change direction! Perhaps a slower pace would allow you to STOP before you hit the wall! :lol3:

Fish -- How do you find time to count calories when you sound so busy? Do you tend to eat the same thing every day and thus know without having to go look things up? Enjoy DC. Are the cherry blossoms out yet? The plum are just out now, late this year and the cherries should be early, so probably at the end of this month. Then Tokyo is absolutely beautiful!

jolly -- I'm glad to hear you did your treadmill workout and that your trainer is getting on your A..literally! Ouch! Hope your head is ok. Thanks for the congrats. Though I tend to think they don't, I do somewhere know that the small successes are important as well. They add up and perhaps will set the stage for appearances of bigger and better things! Your post about the "feeling good about yourself" and then giving the reason reminds me. I think I will restart my "Good things" notebook. This was where I wrote down the good things that happened to me or the things I did that I saw as overcoming obstacles, either things put in my path or my own lethargy etc. Admittedly, looking back on that notebook would be irritating at times, because I felt like, yeah, big deal, this things are just TOO little, but then again, I think taking note of them does help keep me from really hitting rock bottom anymore. Though you, jolly, seem to be in a much better way these days, you may want to give it a try. :sunny:

dance -- Day 10 with no pauses? Does that mean you have no pauses left or you have taken no pauses? I hope it's the latter. Great going in either case!

chai -- Well, whiney or not, at least there was some balance there. That's the important thing. I like your resisting a food porn lunch! Wow. "Beverage porns" :lol3: Smelling the deliciousness in your head is GOOD! In time you'll be SEEING the deliciousness in the mirror! and feeling it when you slip into your clothes...or out of them! That speaker sounds like a total A**hole! What the **** goes?!

CB -- Glad to hear your're still hanging in there. I think the trainer will be good for you.

Apple -- Are you continuing along? Day 7 was the last I heard from you. Yes, something is better than nothing. I know the feeling, like, why bother? but it IS important. Keep it up! :strong:

carla -- Thanks for popping in with your wonderful congratulatory messages! Hope you're enjoying your vacation out there, over there...in Frisco. The American portions are obscene. Ask to have them wrapped and take 'em home!

aileigh -- Well, the scale not going up is a good thing. Don't worry about it. Scales mean very little except over the long term which is never when we are looking at them, is it? If you live in a colder area, maybe your body just doesn't need the water now. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you have that as a challenge. As for starting over, that is still a BIG thing. Coming here and starting, not just whining, not hiding. Keep trying! :flow1:

Danzer, how are you doing?

curlylocks 03-10-2006 07:37 PM

day 21 52 carbs.......... hey its time to think up a new challenge!!!

carla49 03-10-2006 07:59 PM

:bravo: Let's hear it for CURLY :bravo:
who has so many completed challenges there isn't enough room for all the little barbells!!!

jollygirl 03-10-2006 09:37 PM

Hello all! First off - :cb: :cb: Way to go Curly. You rock! :cb: :cb:

Marble - what's wrong?

Fish - I hope you get to enjoy some time at home.

Red - glad you were able to go out and have some fun.

Everyone else - hope you had a super day and we hear from everyone soon.

Day 9 - challenges met.

Having said all that, I have to ask - is there anyone else out there who thinks denim is the fabric of Satan? :?: How else can you explain how a pair of jeans can fit super, then, when you throw them in the wash, are so tight you need gravity and a crane to get into them - no matter what size you are. It is like the fabric know . . . "She lost 10 pounds, we can shrink an extra couple inches just to mess with her." Every time! I don't get it

Enough said. Off to watch the last few minutes of "What Not to Wear" then give the dogs a bath before bed. Have a great night all.

Danzer5570 03-10-2006 11:40 PM

Red - just thought i'd let you know, you've really made me feel welcome here! you never forget me when you write individual notes to everyone. in fact you never forget anyone...and that's so great of you!! just thought i'd let you know it's appreciated.

As for my challenges I'm doing pretty well...except for updating in here as you can see. I'm gonna have to start over with that one! LOL

-No pop (L3) day 4 complete (2 pause days left)
-Write in my journal (L1) day 5 complete (1 pause day left)
-And the checking in here is back to day 1 (which is complete as of now!)

I've just been really busy lately. Mid-terms are here (funny how i have TWO midterms instead of one in two of my classes :?: ) One more week and then Spring Break is here! :D I just wish I were going somewhere warm ;)

It seems everyone's doing really well. Keep up the great work! I'll be back tomorrow! :carrot:

Apple Blossom 03-10-2006 11:56 PM

Jolly, I hear you on the jeans.. I wore a pair for the first time in a long time yesterday. They were REALLY tight around the thighs and it took several HOURS for them to loosen up and feel comfortable again. I recently splurged on a new pair, I'm usually reluctant to spend when I'm hoping I won't need a larger size for much longer. Anyway, I bought a pair of Levi's with 2 percent spandex, and they are awesome. I highly recommend them.
Day 8 is done, but day 9 isn't looking too good. Hopefully I can get my butt up on the step tonight...
Good to hear from you Red!! I hope I can be that generous there-for-you type of person some day. Seems like I ask for more favors than I am able to recipricate lately....
CURLY!!!!!!
Great work! That carb challenge was THE MOST challenging challenge EVER!! I am amazed!:cp: :cp: :hat: :cp: :cp: :hat: :cp: :cp: :hat: :cp: :hat:
Hope everyone else is doing well. Where's JCT? Hallooo!! Tia?

Sushi Penguin 03-11-2006 01:13 AM

I've been busy organising my trip... Forgot to go running a few nights ago. Got too focused on finding camp sites, and when I checked the time, it was already 10:30 pm. So much for my running challenge... :( and as for the others... well... :o

curlylocks 03-11-2006 07:07 AM

thanks for the cheers!!! ( umm carla u have completed alomost as many challenges as i have)

Everyone keep up the good work!! :dust: You can do it!!!

jollygirl 03-11-2006 12:52 PM

Good morning everyone. Danzer - good luck with mid-terms, and enjoy your break. Sushi - how long is your trip for? Curly and Joy - Hi there
Marble - I have the Levi's. The feel great, and actually look pretty good on my oversized butt. But they still shrink as much as possible after each wash.

Just got done at the gym. Waiting for my dad to get here, then off to spend some much needed quality time withthe pony (oh yeah, and Dad too ) It is so warm here today we are doing a spring bath too!

Have a great day all. Will check in later.

JCT Mom of 3 03-11-2006 02:02 PM

HI all...

Well... I had to start over on all of my challenges... urgh!!!!!

I am starting again...

Journal food... on paper and on blog... Level 2

Drink water everyday... Level 1

This week was SUPER bad, I hate when my girls go to their father's... I get depressed and eat... urgh. To top it off... my son turned 1 and I nearly cried. Needless to say... I drowned my sorrows in food porn... particularily of the mexican and buffet styles. Can we say mega bloating/water retention?! LOL

Ah well... it's a new week... and a new year... for my son anyway!;) TTYL

CONGRATULATIONS to those of you who finished challenges and GOOD WORK to everyone still plugging along.

Misti in Seattle 03-11-2006 02:39 PM

Hey Jessica, hang in there! It happens to all of us now and then!! You have a whole new 21 days to go for another start!!! And Congratulations on the two you have completed!!

JCT Mom of 3 03-11-2006 04:49 PM

Thanks Dance! I'm not seriously discouraged... just irritated with myself. I was on day 19 of journaling... and 16 of water... just irritated.

New week... new day... new challenges! :)

BTW, I like the scripture quote!!!!! I think verses 10-15 really speak well about comming out of trials.

Misti in Seattle 03-11-2006 06:08 PM

Oh noooooooooo that would be irritating to blow it on days 19 and 16 LOL. But hey it happens.

Glad you like the quote... yes that passage around it is all very good and applicable!!! \o/ (that is hands lifted in praise)

That is actually what my Dance4joy name means... Dance for Joy to the Lord!!!

crackin' the whip!

:coach: Ok, get this! The party's over! The jig is up! I am getting out my whip here and giving it one **** of a crackin'! I am starting up FOUR new challenges..actually redoing ones I have done before...in order to get myself back on track. There are NO more excuses! :nono: Now, it'll be tough, but that's the name of the game. I've been goofing off for long enough. So, in addition to the ongoing crunches thing, on which I took a pause day yesterday and am once again on Day 15 AND at the end of which I will make a new thread, there are to be the following new challenges starting today, Sunday, March 12.

All Level 3s (I'm tough, but I'm not a sadist.)

NO SUGAR and this includes all added sugars in sauces and such as well, except I can have a little in condiments if it's already in there and I can have sugarless gum but no other artificial sweeteners. I am allowing myself a BIT, not a whole cupful!, of honey on my morning oatmeal.

NO WHITE FLOUR and this includes nearly all processed foods. I am allowed to eat up the bread I have in the freezer already, which is mostly a rye mix and not too deadly anyhow.

NO ALCOHOL This a tough one because so many of my friends are drinkers and meetings, discussions etc. etc. are all accompanied by alcohol and there is NO way I can sit there, nor do I want to, sit there and chat over tea, but three weeks, with three days for important times, I can do, or I'll take it to three months trying!

MUST JOURNAL FOOD AND EXERCISE and aim for very healthful foods, sweat-breaking exercise and no calorie excesses.

*****************

Well, there you have it. I've declared them and if I flub one I'll be restarting. There is no putting this off anymore! Wish me luck all! I'm gonna need it. :sunny:

redballoon 03-11-2006 07:29 PM

what have I gotten myself into!?!?!

Ok, all, getting ready to get out here. Let's see if I can catch up.

JCT -- Sorry to hear about the crash. Those 19 days and 16 days were not in vain though. Even though you didn't complete a challenge you still had all those good days, so don't be any more than a tad disappointed, not "seriously discouraged." :nono: Your girls going off their father's is, well, not nice, but come on, you've got to stop wasting the days. They will be back. Your son turning 1 is a wonderful thing. If you give reasons for crying, or almost crying, and you could always say there are reasons, you could also give just as many reasons for NOT crying, but for rejoicing. Tears of nostalgia and the like aren't really sad, sad tears, so don't let your thoughts turn to being depressed. Sadness is OK! And remember, a lot of kids never even get that far. Picture your son as a strapping young man and look forward to that!

So, JCT, I want to see you pick it up and start counting what's right in your life, even if that means looking at what could be wrong, OK?!

dance -- Glad to hear that you have pauses if you need them. And I take it you've made it through Day 11 by now, right? :flow1:

curly -- Any ideas on your next challenge?

jolly -- So, what day are you on? Was the gym your challenge? Sorry I can't keep track. Hope you have a good time with your horse and father. Don't let anything there get you down, as it seems to.

Sushi -- Don't like to hear that! ;) Hope you're picking up and starting over.

Apple -- How are you doing with the challenges? Did you get the butt 'amovin'? I hope so!

Danzer -- Thank you for your sweet words. I try to mention everyone but at times I can't find the time or am out of it myself. Still, I do try, so thanks for recognizing that. I'm glad to hear that your not being here doesn't mean you're off your challenges but are just working quietly away. Good going! :bravo:

carla -- Thanks again! Hope you come back and join us soon!

Misti in Seattle 03-11-2006 09:30 PM

Yep, Redballoon... it is only 6:30 here but I have no plans to binge before bedtime LOL so I can say I have made it through Day 11.

And nope... NO pauses... but I have actually been on the plan now for a month and a half and only got "busted" one time by my best friend for buffalo chicken wings LOL

curlylocks 03-11-2006 09:34 PM

ideas??? yikes u skeered me with that whip!!

aileigh 03-11-2006 11:32 PM

Congrats curly on completing your challenge.

Good luck to everyone on their challenges through the weekend.

Red, wow the journaling challenge would beat me, I couldn't ever dedicated myself to do that. Kudos to you!!

Congrats to Dance for making it to the halfway point with a pause day left.

JCT, I understand the feeding depression with food.... I don't know why it is so comforting, but that is how I got to be where I am - I was prolly 215 when I left my ex-husband and now down to 184 (but I left him 3 years ago) and I have been stuck there at that weight forever.

Which, by the way, again I have not lost any weight thus far, but to my surprise TOM came a bit early and I am hoping that the weight will go down after TOM and water retention is over. keeping my fingers crossed because I would be so happy to see the scale read some lower numbers to my ears. I need that motivation...

Although, when I started the treadmill in January at walking at 3.3 mph, my heartrate would be in the cardio burn area of around 140 and when i did the 3.3 Friday, my heart rate was at 120... super, now I have to jack up the speed LOL - so hopefully I will start running again soon since the weather is prettiful.

Well all, I have to start my challenges over and I think they are going to be different because a) I have memory loss issues and i don't journalize my waters and I never keep track of how many I drank (this time around I am writing my goals down); b) I was at the firehall for a call and didn't get the right amount of calories in my system - I didn't get enough because I missed lunch; and c) I just want to specify my challenges and write them down this time. Make myself a checklist so I can keep track.

Well sorry for my rambling, we had a call last night and I lacking sleep and was busy all day and my eyeballs are begging to shut tight. Good night and take care everyone!!

chaigirl 03-12-2006 12:05 AM

*still cringing from the whip cracking* Wow! Red! There's our Drill Sergeant of Old!!! Good luck on those challenges - those all sound like toughies to me!

I'm off to bed right now - I had a really big day - boyfriend and I went out for a full date-day - found an awesome Thai restaraunt and a great grill-type place. If you are a fish-lover and you find a "Flat Rock Grille" you should definitely check it out. There is plenty of food porn available, but their specialty is simple grilled fish that is really good - and NOT super salty. While I had to substitute some stuff on fitday and I didn't carry my water bottle with me, I am still counting both challenges for the day because:
- Even though I didn't measure precisely, I only drank water all day, and I made a conscious effort to drink a LOT of it with each meal
- I did keep careful track of everything that I ate AND log it all into fitday as best I could when we got home.
- SO...I think this means I am done with day 5 of fitday and day 4 of water - I will have to look back tomorrow to be sure, though. Allso...

As of This Morning I Have Officially Lost TWENTY Pounds! Woot!:carrot:

Keep on Truckin!
Erin :carrot:

jollygirl 03-12-2006 01:07 AM

Wow - quite the whip crack, Red. My challenges are 1) No chocolate, 2) follow menu and get 3 servings each of fruits and veggie, 3) count servings and/or cals on breakfast and snacks. I am on day 10 of all challenges. And the only thing that got me down today was my horse! All the barn seemed to have a bad case of the spring squirrellies, and he knocked me down when I gave him his bath. Would have been fine, except I got my fingers caught in the lead as I went down. That's a bruise.

JCT - get back up there girl. You can do this. You deserve to do this.

Chai - congrats on the 20 pounds. Go buy yourself some flowers or something - you deserve to celebrate.

Everyone else  Sorry I don't write longer tonight, but I am way tired, and my typing fingers are sore.

See you later.

redballoon 03-12-2006 07:40 AM

another day notched on ALL challenges!

Ok, I've notched a day on ALL my challenges...well, the journaling as soon as I get it all down. Didn't eat all that much today so it'll be easy. My really hard times are when I'm at the hated office. Otherwise it's not hard at all to not overeat, eat sugar, drink beer etc. etc. Sheer boredom and frustration and irritation and all those ugly feelings are the things that get me going at the office. BUT, today was OK! I have achieved liftoff!!

Sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone! :lol3: The whip crackin' was only for me. If any of you would like me to get it out for you though, I will. ;) You know those whip crackin' contests they have...well, that's what I imagined getting out this morning. A real doozy, eight-foot bullwhip. Now, here you go! http://www.geocities.com/landon86/houseowhips.html Just go to this link and click on the picture off that first whip and you can hear Indiana Jones cracking his! Wow! Now that IS SCARY!!! I'm going to imagine that in my head every time I'm having a hard time getting up in the morning...to the gym...anything I'm procrastinating on! :yikes:

jolly -- Yeah, glad you liked it! Your challenges are toughies too! Good going!! Ooh, sorry to hear about your getting knocked down. Yikes, hope your fingers are OK.

chai -- You see! That is something to cringe at! But, remember, I only do it if you're REALLY BAD! ;) And, yeah, I'm feeling ample disgust at my slovenly ways and that ALWAYS brings out the drill sergeant in me! I think you're AOK on your water challenge. Just chugging it all day is fine, I'm sure. And wow, what is this?! 20 lbs gone! Holey Moley! Good for you!!! :woo: :woo: :woo:

aileigh -- Oh, my, sorry to hear you have to restart, but no prob! That is great that you are working your heart and getting that heartrate down. The heart really responds well to training. So well, in fact, that I injured my foot once running too much because I was only looking at the heartrate and I could barely get it up anymore without going all out. Good luck on your challenges. Writing things down is a great exercise in awareness and so much of what we do needs a bit more of that, eh? ;)

curly -- If you were able to hear that link, I bet you're really skeered now! I don't think you ever have to worry. You are our star challenger.

dance -- Congrats on Day 11 :cp:

Everyone else, a big hello! Hope to hear from you all soon.

:kickcan:

Sunday!

Just popping in to wish everyone a GREAT OP day! tackle those challenges... and stay tuff!

Apple Blossom 03-12-2006 03:00 PM

Holy cow, Red:moo: you sure are ambitious.
I think I am gaining rather than losing weight.
I had to take another pause so I'm on day 8. Have to make it 2 weeks with no break! Time to see how committed I am....
I'm still struggling with a beer challenge, maybe I'll start one today. But I'll try a new strategy by making it a level 3. I might actually be able to handle that.
Hello to everyone!
JCT, I know exactly how you feel.
Curly, do you have a new challenge?

girlieyorkie 03-12-2006 04:13 PM

 Hi everyone~

Congrats to all who have finished their challenges.:woo: :woo: :balloons: :balloons: :cheer: :cheer:

Chai~ WTG, 20 lbs.:bravo: :woo: :cheer: ~ it must feel good to weigh 20 lbs. lighter.

Red~ http://bffc.net/icons2/worthy.gifSorry, I thought you were teasing about not knowing the hype about the other white meat. And I do remember that you're a veghead.;) You mentioned that the guts of kitties are used for musical instruments. I'd like to know what kind of instruments.:?:
Good Luck on your challenges they are tough.:goodluck:

JCT~ Sorry to hear that you've got to start over on your challenges, anyway your efforts were not wasted, I think that in some way you've formed some habits and it will be so much easier next time. Your goal of losing at a rate of 2lbs./week is doable. At your age and with the energy you put into looking after 3 kids plus of course making sure you eat right and exercise some, then you should be OK.

I also have to start over on 2 of my challenges.
My level 1~ no diet soda, went down the drain some time ago, and I've already started over as level 3 and on my 5th day today.
My level 2~ exercise everyday for 30 mins. have to be suspended because I have sprained my ankle on my 14th day (March 7)http://bffc.net/icons2/sillyme.gif and been told to rest my ankle for 7-10 days, so I could at the earliest start over between March 15-17th, and this time it will be a level 3.
We live by the beach, and last tuesday I took my dog out for a walk, the sun was out:sunny: the beach was covered with snow and there was ice on the water, it was really beautiful. Anyway, I stepped on a mound of snow, and I guess I was too heavy:o and it collapsed and I somehow twisted and sprained my ankle.http://bffc.net/icons2/ouch.gif
Here is a picture of the beach taken with my cell.http://img488.imageshack.us/img488/7048/beach1xo.jpg

I'm wrapping up my level 3~ No red meat today and I haven't taken any pause day so at least I've finished 1 out of my 3 challenges. Not that bad for starters I supposed.

Goodluck to everyone:goodluck:
Good Night all.http://bffc.net/icons2/sleepy.gif

jollygirl 03-12-2006 05:23 PM

Hi all. Today was a really good day. Got everything done I wanted to. My horse was much better behaved. I like days like this.

Day 11 - all challenges met. 10 more days to go. I even have new challenges all picked out and ready to go.

Elyn - sorry to hear about your ankle. The beach sounds beautiful.

Everyone else  Have a great rest of the day.

JCT Mom of 3 03-12-2006 10:43 PM

Ouch!!!!!!

OUCH!!!!! I am rubbing my hiney from that whippin' :drill: Red gave me!!!!!!!! ;)

I appreciate everyone's understanding and encouragement!!!! I know that everyone has been there and that there are many worse things in life that I DON"T have to worry about... thanks Red... I needed that kick in the butt!

Life is good... journaling and water are good... I bought a WW mug for my water... much eaiser to carry instead of a big water bottle. The only problem I have is that my kids think it's fun to take out the straw. :nono:

I am trilled to see everyone is cracking away at the challenges!!!!! Red... you are seriously bustin' them out girl!!!!! Speaking of crunches... my DD was doing her own version while she was talking to my friend on the tele. Laying on her back... legs up... flats of feet together. she grabbed her heels in one hand (the other was holding the phone) then she broght her heels back to touch her nose and forehead..... :dizzy: WHILE SHE WAS TALKING!!!!!!! No heaviness of speech or anything... THEN she was doing scissors with her legs too!!!!!!! Talk about a fit body! I said "Keep that up Girl!!!! You'll be glad later if you do!!!!"

Okay - here I go with my challenges and this time I am writing them down so that I don't get lost and forget one.

1. Good carbs, tons more protein and stick with this and no serious cheating (I've been doing good on this one)

2. At minimum 4 bottles of water (this one kills me for some reason, am I the only one who struggles getting in the much needed H20???)

3. Exercise 5 days/wk for a minimum of 45 minutes (cardio w/ heart rate up) and 20 minutes of weight training/toning

Okay I have written down my challenges and have a designated calendar to keep serious track. I obviously learned that from the previous week that not having a written accountability really can throw it out of wack.

Thanks for the encouragement Red - I think restarting is okay and I knew I blew it big this weekend anyways because with the calls, rearranging my daughter's room and what - not, I had not consumed sufficient calories for the day, but I got my water in LOL!! Go figure??? :dizzy:

Okay - Today is DAY ONE !!! Woo hoo!!!

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 08:45 AM.
