Actually, I thought it was the Roadrunner about to be smacked in the head by a RED boxing glove......

redballoon 02-21-2006 04:37 PM

Marble..are you trying to make me feel good? :^:

Rosario 02-21-2006 04:59 PM

Hey all!! Thanks for all the good wishe sand welcome.

Jolly and Red-thanks for the good advice about giving up the chocolate and coke. I've decided to just give it up cold turkey. Haven't had withdrawals yet....lol

Apple-don't feel bad about seeing a weird looking bird in red's avatar. I actually see one of those characters from the Dr. Seuss books...hmmm.

Good luck to everyone on their challenges!!!!

1 down-20 to go:carrot:

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.:thanks:

Red~ Yes, I've posted once in the old thread, but I was waiting for this new thread and your new guidelines. I was a veghead for more than 7 years when I was younger, back then I weighed 97lbs, so I have almost doubled my size:( so now I've been toying with the idea that being a veghead is maybe the missing link in my success to lose weight. But it have been such a looooong time ago and I know it will be really tough, so I have to take baby stepshttp://img474.imageshack.us/img474/2258/baby2xx.gif~ so I'm starting with cutting out red meat.

Jessica~ "Whatever will you drink?" Well, there is water, and there is soy milk, and there is water and there is soy milk, and there is water and there is soy milk..... Darn, what was I thinking.:?: Hey, I said no diet soda, so why not a regular soda? nah~ I hate then, way too sweet. Seriously, I don't like beer either, but I love red wine:T  , so I will have red wine occasionally which is allowed in Sonoma and SBD.
By the way, your avatar is great~ lovely family.

It is now 11:00PM here, and I did good on my 3 challenges. I will be on my 3rd day tomorrow.

Goodnight everyone.

jen1121 02-21-2006 06:17 PM

redballoon: i think that my challenges are ok and considering that they are called "challenges"... shouldnt they be challenging? if you have some ideas that would be better for me, than please tell me because i dont want to fail!

redballoon 02-21-2006 08:22 PM

jen, don't get me wrong! I was concerned that you thought you HAD to do tough ones. If you're game, go for it! I'm sure you can do them and that's why you've thought them up! :goodluck:

jollygirl 02-21-2006 08:36 PM

Good evening all. Just checking in with the best ladies, while watching the Olympics.

Day 16 of the no soda and day 15 of the follow the menu - complete. Root canal, part 1 - complete. The dentist tried explaining to me what he was doing. Sorry buddy - ignorance is bliss!

i was going to say not much more to report, except I DID do weights tonight. Woo hoo.

Hey, anyone heard from Tia lately?? And welcome to Jen and her challenges too. Good luck, and keep up the good work. Everyone else, have a great night!

curlylocks 02-21-2006 09:19 PM

day 5 of the carb challenge is complete with a total of 41 carbs

guess u are gonna have to add me to the injured reserve list with Cbeta...
did i tell u all the story about chai & his excitement with the snow? and how he pulled me down with his leash.. well after a week my thumb was killing me.. i went in to have it checked at the urgent care cuz my knuckle is about 3x the size of the other thumb knuckle & much pain...

well after 3 hrs .. the dr said the xrays are questionable.. possible fracture.. anyways they put me in a spica splint and told me to call back thursday when they have had another dr review the xray!

good thing i can type w/o that thumb!

carla49 02-21-2006 09:36 PM

Day 20 complete - only one day left, one pause day in my hip pocket.

Marble, good to see you back here. We missed your irreverence!

There are so many new posters all of a sudden! I really need to make a list of all the names and write a personal note to each of you, BUT it won't happen tonight. You all have some worthy and challenging challenges there - enough to make slackers like me feel a little ashamed at our pathetic efforts. Blush, blush.

Apple, how are you doing on that little side bet we've got going? I was a day late, but today I was down that necessary pound this morning. It must be all the exercise at boot camp.

Red, extra days at work? Maybe your efforts to generate some additional income are finally going to bear fruit. As for your avatar, I really have to ask who drew the horse... The balloon I could identify, streaming in the wind behind the ??? I agree with whoever thought it looked like something from Dr Seuss. Then again, maybe I'm just jealous of those long eyelashes.

Up at the crack again tomorrow, so that's it for now. Since Thursday is a day off, I may take my final pause day tomorrow. A nice little meal with some grilled lean meat (apologies to the vegheads), steamed veg, new potatoes... and a glass or two of ruby red vino. I'm salivating already.

A minor victory today: I wore some pants I haven't been able to sit comfortably in for about 2 years. And I wore them ALL day at work, no pain whatever! I'm contemplating actually wearing a skirt this week... be still my heart.

Night all.

carla49 02-21-2006 09:44 PM

Curly, we posted at the same time. Sorry to hear about your sore paw! Of course you don't need a thumb to gazelle... (Oops. Shouldn't have said that. Now I can hear the lonely, abandoned whimpering from the spare room. I wish the dratted thing wasn't named for an animal - I wouldn't feel quite so guilty.)

BTW, is the lo-carb regimen working for you? You haven't said anything about a plateau lately, and I'm not sure if you've changed your mini-goal, so can't tell if you're losing. Most people do drop quickly when they're first lo-carbing, so I have high hopes for you. :crossed:

curlylocks 02-21-2006 10:14 PM

ive gone down a lb since monitoring my carbs... i probably wont see the drop that others who begin low carbing get.. cuz i have been watching them all along just not at this lower level.. i was hitting anywhere from 40-125 .. my dr recommended i not go over 60 so i thought i would give it a shot!

Danzer5570 02-21-2006 10:47 PM

Hey all! Checkin' in for the day...it looks like you all are doing great!! :bravo: Keep it up!

As for me, well....let's just say I had a pause day (that wasn't planned) for all three challenges. I don't know what was wrong with me today. :?: But tomorrow's a new day! I know I can do it!!! :carrot: But here's my "stats" i guess you can say so far...

2 fruits/veggies every day (L1) - 1 day complete, pause day gone
Exercise every day (L2) - 1 day complete, 1 pause day gone, 1 left
No pop (L3) - 1 day complete, 1 pause day gone, 2 left

And I'm gonna need all the motivation I can get because I have a big Accounting test coming up! And when I have tests or lots of homework, I get stressed and eat eat eat!!! LOL.

Talk to ya all tomorrow!

uschim 02-21-2006 10:51 PM

Starting by Challenge today

Hi, I am 29. Mommy to a 6 month old girl and eager to loose 32 pounds. :p I am not quite sure how the challenge goes but I will start at level 3 with working out at least 30 minutes. :( I am going to need all of the help that I can get. My biggest problem is consistency in everything that I do.

I usually get discouraged when i gain one to two pounds when i work out. Can anyone recommend something on this?

CBETA 02-22-2006 02:22 AM

Day 17 of my challenge to eat a lunch from home is done. Since the beginning I've taken 1 pause day. 4 more and I will be done!
I missed you guys but had too much to do at work. Knee was better Saturday after an entire day of rest on Friday, but today it is back to pain. Orthopedics appointment is fro Fri AM, we will see what he says.
Congrats to everyone. Keep up the good work with new challenges. I will be joinging in after my appointment.
My goal? to lose 16 pounds to bring me donw to 230 by end of March. I did lose 2 pounds even though I've been injured last week. Who knows may be it's muscell, but a loss is a loss....
Off to read 3 pages...talk to everyone later.

JCT Mom of 3 02-22-2006 02:30 AM

Too Many Posts!!!!!

My head is swimming... whhooo.

I haven't been online much these last two days because I have been trying to set up my new PC. I got my modem all installed.... only to have it boot my OTHER PC off the internet because our Braodband account only allows for one modem. So I called the company to inquire and found out that the $30 I spent on cables and couplers and the like was all for naught. I can't use a second modem without paying an extra $50 on my cable bill... NO WAY! Sooo.. i had to uninstall it.... remove all the cables... repackage them and take them back to the store and buy a wireless router and wireless adapter.... SHEESH!!!!! Did I mention it's a 30 minnute drive every time i need to go to town to a store?! And that in order to call the cable company I have to use the speaker phone becuase none of our phones work properly?!

I can't remember what my challenges were.... oh yes, um... 2 Liters water L1(starting today).... food journal L1(day 5).... exercise L3(day 1).... shiney sink L2(day 3).

Thanks for all who commented on my avatar... I have that on my yahoo too.

:welcome: to Rosario, Less, Jen, and uschim. THis is a great thread! Nice challenges too!!!!! WB Marble!!!! (High-five to Carla for crackin' that whip!;) )

Apple- ROFL liking the no goldfish challenge bwahahaha... they aren't safe here either.

Jolly- OUCHES.... are you feeling ok? I hope you get back up to par soon!

Red- Turkey Picture... hee hee hee.... I laughed so hard when I got to the end of your post. I can see the horse now... but I had to look real close.... at first I thought it was a balloon tied to a cats tail! :lol3: I hope you are feeling better about things today. ANd about that.... "it's about time" comment :p! Did you :flame: me?! Heh heh heh ;)

Tia- Glad to see you back... I hope you are doing ok. Is everything alright with the kids now? Take some rest and get your meds back to regular before taking on anymore challenges girl.

Elyn- Hee hee hee... I know I was teasing... I don't like the regular stuff either... and well... notice my water challenge?! ;) Keep up the good work you are hoppin already!

Curly- OUCHES about the thumb.... I hate when that stuff happens... I don't like pain... I am a wimp. I was half joking about the graphic... I would appreciate it, but you don't have to ... I would like some tutorials though if you want!;)

Carla- WTG with the boot camp... man what a trooper!!!! And Hoorah for the pants!!!! YAY!!!! :cheer:

Danzer- you are doing awesome girl! I do wonder though.... since you are still so close to the beginning... would it be better to start over with a fresh slate rather than have to go 99% without pause days????? I would hate to see you starting over on day 18 because of something out of your control.... but that's IMO. :goodluck: with the test.... I am starting accounting courses in the spring!

Ok all... I am gonna go get that water and CHUG-A-LUG!!!!! Dang this is a long post! :p

JCT Mom of 3 02-22-2006 02:39 AM

Oh CB.... you posted while I was typing up my post! WELCOME BACK!... I hope you start feeling better. And that the Dr can help more. You are doing awesome on your challenge!!!! Keep it up!!!!!

I keep on saying that I need to make final decisions on things and keep on putting it off - scary I know. But final decision is almost here - it's simple, I will just try to see if I am able to stay under 60 and if I can, I will lower it...
Hmm so - first day is TOMORROW, I've been putting things off for way too long. Official challenge descriptions will be available tomorrow for viewing and review by RED and others ;-)

no....I am so sorry to hear...but I don't want company, I would like for everyone else to be safe and healthy....Besides, there are no special excercise in your challenge for your thumb, is there curly - you are going to be just fine. Though do make sure to wear a splinter and do physical theraphy, I broke one of my thingers many years ago and now it does not stand straight...! Take care of yourself....

Hi and welcome...first of all.
Yes this is exactly was my behaivior when I was in college.... " I will lose what I eat now....some day"...I totally admire for realizing now - there is not reason to create bigger problems in the future if they can be avoided all together now......Hm sort of like credit card over limit spending...
Good luck on your tests, and your challenges. I am sure you will be strong .....

Hi, welcome and congratulations on recently becomming a mom.
Good luck on your new challenge, but please don't get discouraged. As you asked for some suggestions, I'd recommend two things.
a. Pick one day a week - and do not visit the scale any other days. That way you will not know about your progress up or down and therefore will set you mind on completing your challenge ;-) rather than thinking about pounds loss...
b. Even if you see an up movement, make sure to remind yourself that you are here for a life change not just a few pounds drop, think positive. Your body is trying to readjust and reallign itself, some say it builds muscell. Once they are built, they start eating the fat... but the gain that you see is that spur of the moment when muscell mass has been accumulated, but no fat has left... Trust me - if you do your 21 days and keep up healthy eating (weight loss IS 65% depended on food intake), I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised and motivated for another round of 21 days... Don't get discouraged, it's not easy... simply start over and try again...
GOOD LUCK... and be strong!

(sorry I sound sometimes too serious...)

CBETA 02-22-2006 03:31 AM

Total of 5 posts....sorry I just could not combine it into one... - you know me, it would have been a page long... ;-)

With this final one for today. I wanted to welcome everyone who is new to this thread. Welcome guys. Also I wanted to wave to marble, tia and apple. Great to see you back!
It's almost end of February, winter months are almost gone... Spring, time for renewal, rebirth, and love.... Let's be good to ourselves, love our bodies, mind and soul... Good luck to everyone on their challenges, may they be easy and enjoyable as a fresh warm breeze of upcomming spring....

p.s. Shad, and StageMom, Fish, PhysDom, Essbella, freakybella, Tajya...anyone else? where are you guys.... I (collective we) miss you... visit us back....how are you?

Sushi Penguin 02-22-2006 03:59 AM

Quick quick... 21-day running challenge complete with 37 minutes yesterday - my record time! However, February running challenge continues, I still need 187.5 minutes this month. So it's Day 1 today again. ;)

It's my first 'no more work' day, haven't had the energy to come up with any other challenge yet. ;)

curlylocks 02-22-2006 07:38 AM

:cheer: way to go Sushi! :cheer:

FishWoman 02-22-2006 08:10 AM

Good morning all! This is just a quick check-in. Hopefully I will have time to read all the posts from this weekend and yesterday later today. I did see that Sushi completed her 21-day challenge though. Congratulations!!! You are going to be running marathons in no time!

I am so behind in updating fitday, but I have all my food for the long weekend scribbled on various pieces of paper. I took my first of 2 pause days for my calories on Sunday, and my first of 2 pause days for exercise yesterday.

So - when it all shakes out, I have finished day 8 for both challenges. Friday was 1456 calories/41 minute yoga dvd; Saturday was 1374 calories/30 minutes on elliptical plus 1 1/2 hours of shopping and trying on clothes. (FYI, I am fitting back into a size 8 at J. Crew:carrot: ) Sunday was a bad food day at 1902 calories (I told y'all I was going to make up for dumping wine down the drain:o ) but 45 minutes on the elliptical; Monday was 1463 calories and 35 minutes on elliptical; and Tuesday was 1065 calories (I know, a little low, but I got crazy at work again and didn't want to eat a whole lot when I got home at midnight) and no workout.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend, and I should be able to catch up with everything later this afternoon (i hope!)

jollygirl 02-22-2006 09:42 AM

Good morning all. Curly and Cbeta - hope you feel better soon. Ouch!

Heather, I am sending motivation your way.

Fish - congrats on finishing your running challenge - Hooray!

I am off to the barn and the gym. Hope to have a great day. I am working on day 17 of no soda and day 16 of following menu. I am almost there. Ready to start new challenges too. My "stealth" goal is to be under 200 by my birthday. (hopefully WELL under). I want to go visit my friend that just came up here, and I want to look a lot healthier.

Have a super day all.

marbleflys 02-22-2006 09:46 AM

Good morning!

Day #2----20 mins. of interval training....

Red, the boxing glove is a definite compliment...please don't slug me with it!

Carla!!!! Get yourself to one of those boring Canadian Malls and buy a NEW SKIRT!

tiajuanna 02-22-2006 10:49 AM

Head finally out of the sand!!!

Goodmorning ALL!!!

Feeling much much better today.:D I am going to be changing my challenges around about before I start again. I will continue to do the 8 glasses of water and the food on fitday. I am thinking about starting the WATP 2 miles instead of the 1 mile because I like it more and time passes by faster with it. Plus after the 1 mile I don't feel like I have really done anything, but I will get back to you all on this one in a couple of day. Maybe I will just say WATP and alternate between the two and who knows, maybe some days add then together and make it 3. I really want to do a challenge dealing with my carb intake but I need to gather some more info first. I may as well go ahead and tell you guys, I am back up to 261, shame on me. But you know the best part of that is that I now know I can lose it. It's doable. I never if realized before that my weight was in my hands. Ok, for my shoutouts:

Hey Red, Angel of Encouragement.

CBETA, I totally agree with you about what spring brings:df: , that was sweet of you to point out.:goodvibes

Sushi, You ROCK!!!!!!! Cut up!!!!!!:carrot:

Curly, thank you so much for all the great advice. You are a whiz. Not yet able to buy another book, so I may have a few more questions.

Fish, you are doing great.

Jolly girl, aren't you just moving right along.:scooter: Good deal!!

Hey Marblefly and the rest of you soldiers!!!

Losingitin06 02-22-2006 11:04 AM

On day 5 of my water challenge.. it's going great so far.. i don't miss pop or juice at all. :D:carrot:

I wouldn't even waste the time looking for them in our little library. Most of the books are so old the pages are thin and yellow.

surfdreams 02-22-2006 02:30 PM

Hi Red - Great thread!! Nice to meet everyone - Great Starts & lets all win!!!:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Hey Carla - GO GIRL - I KNOW I can't do 21 days without wine!! I would have to start over and over - or have too many pause days!!

So my challenge is going to be to exercise at least 30 minutes every day!! I will put that at a Level 3 (that'll give me 3 pause days - right?).

CBETA 02-22-2006 03:32 PM

Ok I sat down and pre-planned what I will eat today.
So far worked out 700 calories, scary - this means that I've been eating this much or less for the last two month, except for the days when I bought food... Strange - I was not hungry though... I counted carbs, must tell you they were 50 grams, if I dont' add anything in...and i know I will. These and Fats, which took up about 50% of my daly carolieris are hard to manage. perhaps I need to look into those poweder protein stuff...not sure if it's something I can manage though...
Curly did you doctor recommend the protein powerder? How much a day?

jollygirl 02-22-2006 06:15 PM

Good evening everyone. I had a very good day. Hopped on the treadmill again. Did ok. Also got out for a riding lesson - man, I can't skip rides anymore. Either that or I need to get Suzanne Sommers thighmaster! He killed me.

Tia - glad to see you back. And it is a great feeling when you realize it is your choice. My daddy always says "if the mind can perceive it than the body can achieve it." You go girl!

Marble and '06 - glad you had good days.

Surf - welcome

Cbeta - How is your knee? Also, we put one of my clients on protein powder. It is helping her gain/maintain her weight.

Have a great night all. I am off to watch . . . oh wait, no. I am off to nap on the couch. That seems to be what I am doing with my time off. Sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. Ah well. That is good too.

curlylocks 02-22-2006 06:33 PM

Day 6

carbs=54

Cbeta i read about the protein powder in a book called "protein power" by michael eades..

tiajuanna 02-22-2006 06:45 PM

I got through Day 1, all complete. :carrot:

Apple Blossom 02-22-2006 06:53 PM

OK, suffering from stress here.....I had dreams about Red's Turkey Horse. I'm not kidding....
Day 5 for exercise (I think), Day one for goldfish, back to start the beer challenge (see sentence one)
Carla, I was hoping you wouldn't bring up the pound a week challenge....I didn't lose last week so I guess if I don't lose 2 this week, I'm possibly behind to the point where I can't catch up. Maybe not, but we'll see next week. Any thoughts?? Great to hear about YOUR progress! I so want to treat myself to nice clothes and be comfortable in most that I have already....
Tia, Curly and Jolly, sounds like you all are doing great!
Sorry, The baby just woke up and he sounds miserable....

es_angel 02-22-2006 10:23 PM

Hi all

CBETA - Congrats on the 2lb loss. Sorry to hear that your back is hurting.

Sushi - Congrats on completing 21 days!!!:bravo:

Surf - :welcome3:

I have completed the 8th day of all of my challenges. I haven't so much as looked at a bag of chips. The water is going down a lot easier. Walking:running: everyday is going well.

TTYL:gossip:

Danzer5570 02-22-2006 10:48 PM

Checkin' in for the day! Didn't do the best today...I'm gonna start over with the veggies/fruit challenge (level 1). Here's my stats so far...

1.) Eat 2 fruits/veggies every day (L1) - starting over...0 days done
2.) Exercise every day (L2) - 2 days done, 1 pause day gone, 1 pause day left
3.) No pop (L3) - 2 days done, 1 pause day gone, 2 pause days left

JCT - Thanks for the suggestions! :) I actually thought about that after I saw you mentioned it. But I figured I'd keep going since it'll give me more motivation to try really hard not to screw up again...otherwise I'll have to start ALL OVER again. LOL. If I start over, I know me...I know I'll use that as an excuse every other time I get the urge to break the challenge. I'll think "Oh I'll just start over tomorrow. But your suggestion was appreciated! Thanks! And good luck with your challenges. Oh and thank you for the good luck! I'm so nervous. I hardly know anything :(

CBeta - Thanks for the support! And good luck with the challenges, as well as your doctor appointment! :carrot:

Jollygirl - thank you for the motivation. That's awesome you're on day 17 of no pop! That's incredible...I'm finding it really hard for me, and I'm only on day 2...LOL

Es_angel - Great job on the challenges! No chips?! Ugh, I'd die!! LOL. Hmm...that's a good idea for my next challenge. ;)

And to everyone else, keep it up!

CBETA 02-23-2006 12:00 AM

Counting carbs was hard... Around 55 for today.
