Full time working stiff!
I'm only about a week old here and I've been lurking around and don't seem to quite fit in anywere! So I want to search out some others who share my issues as well. I work full time, with the commute I'm gone from home about 50 hrs a week. I would love to share lunch ideas, quick dinners, and after school snacks! Things like trying to keep up with the laundry and squeeze in a good work-out! Couldn't go to the gym if my life depended on it! :^: I love newbies with their abundance of excitement when they first start (always a moral booster when somebody is excited)! I want to have some old timers too! Sometimes newbies disappear. :( I love to have fun, laugh at myself, and survive this crazy life style! It dosen't matter if your weight loss goals are more or less than mine, it dosen't matter if you have kids or not, it dosen't matter what diet plan you are following, and it dosen't matter if you fall off the wagon. (who dosen't :^: ) I would love to chat with others who have to survive the parties at work, the mad dash to get home and get dinner together, stay ahead of the laundry, and trying to make healthy choices among it all! And above all people who don't mind that I can't spell  !!!
|
buddy?
Imatis,
I know how you feel about newbies dissappearing..that happens to me all the time :^: I've been around since November and really like it here. I work full time and go to school part time. It is hard to make healthy choices when you're constantly on the go. Of course, I only have to worry about myself. I'm single with no children. I'm working on myself right now getting ME! where I need to be and not worrying about anything else. I joind WW in November and I've had alot of success with that. I suffered through two holidays working at a grocery store with all the goodies I could eat and I still managed to lose through those few weeks. I am always needing quick and easy recipes. I really like to see people successful and motivated toward their life goals... the reason I'm going into Elementary Education. If you're still interested in a buddy just send me a pm Take Care, |
Lori, I was working 40 hours a week and spending 10 hours a week in a classroom two nights out of the week. I'd use my lunch hour on the nights I had class and go walking or even run a few miles. Then I'd eat at my desk or save 10 minutes to eat at the end of lunch. When I didn't have class, I exercised right after work before I did anything else. I would spend one whole day on the weekend and cook up several dishes and freeze them so that I would have my meals already prepared for the next week or so.

hi
Hi, I hope you won't mind if I join you. Even though I am a newbie, I believe I won't dissapear ;)
First of all, I apologize for my mistakes. i am from Europe and still stugling with English I am just 20 years old but I work full time and go to school. My schedule is really crazy. I work M-F from 8:30am - 4:30pm and then I have a second job Sun-W from 7:30pm - 10pm. I am taking ESl classes (before I go to university) on Thursdays from 5pm-8pm. Well, I really have no time to exercise. On weekends, I am trying to clean my apartment and cook for all week. The thing is I work as a nanny and honestly, there is no healthy food in the people's house. I really love group exercises and try to get to my gym as often as possible but it is so hard :( |
Hello there!
Well I know how busy feels, lol! I currently am out of the house for work plus travelling time for about 50 hours per week too, I am a single parent of a 14 year old; I tutor part time and I'm also studying as well as trying to fit in exercise and lose 40lbs! I'm also a moderator on a couple of websites, lol I am desperately trying to get back into my exercise routine but it usually means getting out of bed at 5.00am so that I can exercise in the front room to DVD/videos - I have absolutely no time for travelling to and from the gym and time for getting changeed etc. etc. either. I am hoping to get a small amount of weight training in at night too (or am I just expecting too much) Nice to meet you all |
The more we have the more fun and better ideas! :D I'm going to see how many takers we have and gather up email and contact info maybe find a spot in the support forum we can chat on! :) I love newbies, they always bring forgotten excitement to the group! I just feel sad when they give up and don't come back! :(

What kind of diet plan is everyone doing?
|
Hi Karen,
Whatever you want! Looks like we have some WW, low cal., and low-fat! Maybe more soon! :) |
Hi Lori,
I've been doing LAWL but not with any luck. I've been gaining and losing the same weight over and over for almost a year. I think it's time for a change. I was thinking of doing the old calorie counting again. I just need to get these 40 pounds off... :dizzy: |
Hi All!
This newbie also puts in a lot of time at work, but I'm not nearly as busy since I moved to Ky. I was EXTREMELY active with the city while living up North, but the rednecks down here do not like outsiders coming in to "mess up" their good-old-boy politics! I will soon be opening a new office about 90 miles away, so I will enjoy my free time while I have it! I was going to a gym, but have found that I am more committed here at home with my cheering section not letting me slip up. I don't think I would be comfortable going to WW meetings. Using support via this format is new to me, but I think I will like it. I tend to laugh at myself easily (and the opportunity pops up all too often!), so I would love to share with others. Joetta |
Hi everyone :)
I'm new here too and haven't really found a place that I fit in either. I'm 45, the single mom of a 17 year old girl, and work fulltime (40-45 hours per week). I just quit smoking January 3, and have been on a good old fashioned 1200 calorie plan. It's working well for me - as of this morning I've lost 11.5 pounds. I'm a little bit afraid of what's going to happen when I finally take the patch off though. I just started on my treadmill today. I'd like to do it everyday, but I can't decide if I want to get up at 5 AM or do it at night after work. Getting in exercise during the week has always been a challenge for me. |
Way to Go on quitting the smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings All! I am new here too. I've been lurking for awhile and decided to join so I could be a part of your group. I've been TTLW (trying to lose weight) since Jan 3. I have lost a total of 9 lbs. All I am doing is counting calories (using fitday.com), cutting our sugar (esp coca cola) and trying to stay away from too much saturated fat. I read a book called "Fat Land" this month that has really helped with my mental perspective on Americans, our habits and where they are derived.
I really need a support group that understands the pain of denying oneself during stressful, difficult and emotional moments. I have yet to be able to give up alcohol altogether and I can't give up caffeine either. I hope to get to know you all better and hopefully we can find a way to shed these pounds and be healthier altogether. My biggest issue is that I am an asthmatic that is afraid of exercise. I hope to ease into it gently in the coming months. Good to meet you all! :) |

Thanks Donna
I have looked into some of the fitness places in my area, but right now I can't justify the expenditure. I am married and we are living on just my income, which is only PT right now. My DH is a FT student with two years until graduation. We live on a strict budget, which makes it difficult to lose weight. I have had some room to flex the grocery budget but not eating out and DH has been very agreeable about it.
I do pilates at home occasionally and walk my Rottie regularly. I need to do the pilates more and probably start some yoga. My muscles are still long and lean from my athletic days, but I just don't have it in me to be a runner again. I'd like to look good in a bikini by summer. I think I need to get cracking to make that happen ;) |
Lori- looks like we have enough to start our own group.
Karen- I'm on WW and lovin it. I weigh in tomorrow so wish me luck |
I'll get us up and running by noon! Going to bed for now!! Wow I'm excited looks like a fun group!!! :D I call it the same thing "Full time working stiff" if we want to change it later we can! Oh and GOOD LUCK! I'm going to do my first weigh in tomorrow morning! :o

Cuz Yes We Can Do It!! :d Donna |
Good Morning Everyone,
I have decided to count calories as well. I was told that 1300-1600 would be good for me to do. I thought the 1600 was alittle high but I'll find out for sure on that today. I decided the only thing that works for me is being able to eat what I want when I want it.. I'll be doing that but now I'll have to be held accountable with counting calories. I sure hope this works for me. Good luck to everyone today with your new ways of eating. The boss will be at work for the next two days so I might not be able to come out and play much today and tomorrow. We'll see... :p Lori...Let me know how you're doing with this lifestyle. I like your attitude about the whole dieting thing. Talk to you all later.. |
Good moring everybody, I'm having problems getting our first post up on the support group threads. I have been trying since about 6:30 am and it won't post. I'm going to contact the girls for help. I was hoping it was just my computer at home, but it won't work here at work either.
I had the same problem yesterday too! |
Hey you did it!
Well here we are, support buddies :) I like the sound of that.
I am happy to report that I weighed this morning and I have lost another pound! I am down to 155 even after eating that cheesecake this weekend that I COULD NOT resist! :D How's everyone else doing? |
Good morning
Suzann moved us because we couldn't post a new thread. So for now we'll run off the original. I did my weigh in today and I also lost **4 lbs.** Probably mostly water since it's my first week, but I'll be postive and say 2 for water and 2 for fat :D . Now I have to figure out my slider and contact everybody with the move!
|
Congratulations To All On Ur Recent Weight Loss! U Go Girls! ;)
I Am Off To The Gym... And Then Work At 4;00pm This Week... Still Haven't Decided Which Weight Loss Plan I Am Going To Start... But I Am Getting My Feet Back Into The Right Perspective.... Won't Have Much Time To Post Until Tonight Probably After I Come Home From Work At 12:30am... So U All Have A Great Day.... Donna :) |
Hello!
Hello~
I have been posting on and off for a few weeks now. I am 31 years old, married and have a 5 year old son. I work as a nurse in a local regional jail. My MD just put me on Meridia a few weeks ago. The first week I lost 4 lbs. and this past week I lost 2 more. I have been fixing smoothies for breakfast and lunch and then eating a salad for dinner. I have also been drinking lots of water. That is one good thing about the pills, they make me VERY thirsty. I also go to Curves every morning. My first goal is to lose one dress size before I go on my cruise (2/25/05). I'm sure that I will gain some weight while on the cruise so come the first week on March I will have to start working EXTRA hard. I was on WW a few years ago and lost 15 lbs or so. I would like to start that back up but I can't go to meetings. I work 3p-11p so I couldn't make it to the meeting during the week and on weekends I try to sleep in till 9:00 and that is when the Saturday meetings are. I might look into WW online once I come back from my cruise. Hope everyone has a great week!! ~Jenn :coffee: |
Hi Jenn,
Welcome! My Dr. put me on Merdian twice, I had good luck with it the first time, but gained it all back when I went off them. The second time I had some strange reaction, the only way to explain it was a metal taste in my mouth ***yuck***. My Dr. is sweet I'm trying to lose at least 10 lbs before I have to go see her on March 10th. That way she won't offer the pills to me again! :D Working afternoons has it's perks but it can really mess up you up for dieting. I worked afternoon shift straight for 2 yrs., I was glad to get off it. I really missed out on 2yrs worth of sports with the kids and ate all kinds of crazy things. |
Hello
Donna- I am on the flex points program. I think I would go overboard if I was on the core plan. I need to be help accountable for my actions. I think I can be sneaky at times :^:  I am so upset  I gained this week and I don't know how that could have happened. Just recently, my job said no more drinking at our stations :censored: and if that is the reason...I'm gonna forget that I'm an  I do feel stress free at the moment  I dropped my Intro to Algebra class and added tennis. I will take a Algebra perparation class next semester. I never understood math :( I even had to drop Lifetime Fitness for the Algebra class  anyway...Sorry for my rambling :blah: I'll check in later. |
Christina,
It's muscle you gained, yea that's what it is, now I'm jealous!! :D I would be under my desk drinking H20 from a sprots bottle!! That's mean, I know liquid + computer = disaster but come on if you use a lid all should be good. I would suggest a camel back, can't spill that, but you would look like a dork! :dizzy: When I worked at Verizon we all got special spill proof cups with fancy lids. :coffee: I hate math too, if it wasn't for a calculator I'ld still be sitting in that math class from 2 yrs ago trying to finish the test. |
Congratulations on the weight losses!!
Rusty I have to ask what is LAWL??? There can't possibly be a diet that exists I haven't heard of...... can there, lol! I may be a newbie here but I have been a regular on a couple of other diet and fitness related websites for a while now. Still keeping on keeping on {sigh} In that time I have had chance to experiment as I do not lose weight easily. I discovered that low carb, low calorie is about the only thing that works for me but I can't stick with it for long so I carb cycle. I basically use Monday to Wednesday as my weight loss days - low cal, low carb, low fat and aerobic exercise and then eat healthily with moderate carbs and about 1500 calories for the rest of the week and *supposedly* weight train. I keep promising myself I will start a 12 week Body for Life Challenge but haven't quite managed it yet - I also recently bought myself the New York Body Plan exercise DVD (tough) but for some reason (severe procrastination) haven't got around to blowing up my gym ball (can you see a pattern here) Well I set my alarm for 5.00am this morning and didn't get up until 6.00am so I missed my window of opportunity for pre breakfast exercise. I read a great article which suggested that exercising before breakfast is up to 300% more effective than any other time of day (because you go straight into fat burning as you have no food to burn first) and I actually found I lost more weight by doing it this way too and had more energy throughout the day. But then Christmas happened. And I haven't got back on the wagon ever since. I am armed today though! I have a timer to put on my lamp so that my light should come on fifteen minutes before the alarm goes off (waking up in the dark mornings is soooo hard for me) AND I'm going to take my kettle to bed so I can have a coffee in bed before I have to get up and bounce around my front room! Mind you, I have to catch up tonight with my lack of exercise this morning now.... I find it so hard to motivate myself straight from work. And of course, I still have some grocery shopping to do first. |
Hi all, hope you don't mind me crashing your group. I've been a regular on another group for several months and I love it. Only problem is that there is only three of us and when one goes away for a few days, we tend to not post as much. So I saw the working stiffs and knew that I belonged here.
I work full-time with computers for a school district. I admit I have it pretty easy since I don't work year round, but since we're in the middle of a school year, it seems like I work all the time. Since May 2004, I've lost 19 pounds but have been at the same weight for 3 months. Can anybody say Christmastime?!?!?! Even though I was pretty good, I didn't diet, per se. So I'm stuck. I'm hoping now that I'm back on the wagon for good, that the mini-maintenance stage will make losing go a little easier for a while. I count calories - loosely. After a lifetime (I'm 43) of dieting, I know the calories of just about everything, so I add it up in my head. Once in a while, I'll double check myself and put it into my database and see if I'm doing okay (usually I am under what I guessed/estimated). I'm aiming for 1700 calories a day. I've always lost weight at this amount and am not too hungry. I envy those of you who can go with 1200 cals per day. I'd be so obsessed with food that I'd fail often. So I'm losing weight slowly, which has made my dr. pleased. I exercise with my husband MWF and we're pretty active on the weekends. The new year's resolution was the MWF routine together. It's been really nice. We have a nordic track, exercycle and Gazelle. I use the Gazelle and DH alternates the other two. We put on a concert on the big screen with the surround sound and it's like we're at a concert. The time just flies. So exercise has become easier. Before the new year, I would force myself to exercise, but I didn't enjoy it. Now I do. So, that's my story. Hope everyone is having a great day. |

Oh and Marie welcome we don't mind the crash at all! |
What am I doing to myself???
What in the world am I doing to myself today??? I was tempted by the eggs and bacon this morning but by the time I got back to my desk the only thing I wanted to eat was the biscuit, which I only ate half of. Then I worked straight through lunch. So now I am snacking on graham crackers and water and I want a Coke so BAD!!!! This is what happens when I go without needed calories :dunno: why oh why do I do this to myself??
So now all I can do is think about dinner and what I want to make. Oh I hate watching what I eat so much!!! If I weren't, I'd be drinking Coke and eating chips and then finish with more cheesecake! BAD BAD Kerry!! You all sound so good with your exercise and I am awful! I wish I could get up and exercise in the morning. I'm luck to get my hair dry in time! ;) |
Hi all
Lori thanks for the invite. This looks like a great group. and I need all the help I can get. I'm 51 can't remember a time when I wasn't trying to diet. I think I have hit them all. I was doing WW just lately but could not get to the meetings so was just trying to do it on my own. I have really good days and some not so good days. Lately it has been the later. I have two grown children and a 7 year old. So I do get out with my 7 year old to play kick ball...but right now we have been going sledding & building snow forts. But as far as regular exercise I sure wish I could get back into it. I work 24 hrs a week some times more. So you would think I should have the time and I'm sure I would if I would make it. There in lies the problem. I bought one of those exercise balls. Haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I do have an exercise bike and a treadmill also a twister. I did a little of that last night. I'm not one to get up at 5:00 A.M. I love to read, knit, sew, crochet.....so I'm sometimes up till 1:00 A.M. doing that after I get home from work at 6:00, get supper on the table, do a load of laundry, help with home work and get my 7 year old to bed. I also teach Sunday School so I am getting ready for projects we do in class at nights also. I've always thought there should be 36 hour days. But just want to say congrats to everyone who has lost wt this week and wanted to ask MMarie what a gazelle is? Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow. :grouphug: Anmyreah |
Imatis! Take a deeeeeeeep breath! I also read that exercising before bed will keep your body burning fat throughout the night! :)
My aim is actually to exercise before breakfast each day - moderate aerobics - to burn fat and to weight train before bed (all that growth hormone surging around during sleep to pump up the muscles) but in reality if I exercise at all I'm pretty grateful, lol! |
P.S. MMarie - what is MWF - I'm obviously a complete idiot when it comes to abbreviations!!!!
|
Hi all, MandyJane, MWF is Monday Wednesday Friday. So I exercise those days of the week without fail with the DH. Don't feel bad, I usually can't figure out abbreviations either. Anmyreah, a Gazelle is an elliptical trainer that was developed by Tony Little. It gives the motion of walking/running without any strain on the joints. You use your arms and legs so you get a "total body" workout - which I doubt, since my tummy doesn't appear to be getting into any better shape. :) But it is better than my exercycle.
So far today, I've been really good, staying on track eating wise. I need to make it through the whole day. I set up a goal with myself - if I'm good Monday through Friday, on Friday I can have a Cherry Chocolate Chunk medium Blizzard at DQ for lunch. It's about 250 calories over what I'd normally have for lunch but it's a once a week thing. And since I would die for that specific Blizzard, I figure it's worth the few extra calories since I'd be good all week. And, it just makes Fridays even better. |
Good Evening All!
Lemme see if I have the names so far: We have Lori, Christina, Almostheaven, Katushkacz, Mandy Jane, Donna, Karen, DaybyDay, Kerry, Jenn, Marie, and Anmyreah.....Have I missed anyone? I was at 210 early this month, and am now about 198. I was at this weight during high school and lost down to 125-130 my first year of college--kept it off until a few years ago when I married a guy that loves all the fattening stuff!!! With online buddies like all of you to kick my butt, I am trying to cut portions and get off the wide load and onto the cross-country ski machine that has been collecting dust for years! So what info are we sharing? I can be rather verbose, so feel free at any time to tell me to shut it!!! Husband-1 (at a time :dizzy: ) Kids-1 stepson 15 yrs old and a really cool kid!!!! (seriously!) Jobs- 2 Location-Ky now, was in the Chicago area for over 20 years Age- 49 and looking at 50 up close and personal :p Glad you guys are here! Joetta |
Well I feel obligated to tell you all a little about myself! :^: I'm 33, have a DH and 2 sons (8 & 11 yrs old) I drove school bus for years while the children were small and had tons of time to cook and work-out. Wow I was thin, but then I got too thin. Before I knew what happened I dropped to 115 lbs. I weighed more than that in 8th grade! :o I had an over active thyroid (graves disease) Anyway if we left it go I'ld have a stroke for sure so I let them kill it with radiation (wich wasn't bad at all only pills and nobody around for 3 days after) Well it was worse than the Dr. thought, it took 3 doses 6 months apart to make it stop working so much. So now I have the usual under active thyroid! :D (this all took place about 6 yrs ago and the lbs. kept coming!!) Any way I work for an emergency response hazmat company. Basically we clean up bio-bad stuff that gets spilled and stuff like that. We also clean septic tanks and rent trash boxes in between the spills. (My boss calls me queen of the crapper  ) I take care of all our small customers and the guys handle the big stuff! Our entire company has about 100 employees only 6 girls, go figure! I prefer low fat other than anything else. I try to work out for 30 mins a day, but that dosen't always fly! Anyway I had my darling son hide the scale until Sunday night. (Big weakness :^: ) I made a really good low-fat tuna noodle casserole for dinner. (too much pepper!) we're looking like a great group! Maybe we can discuss exchanging reciepes. Looking forward to all your ideas and support! :)
