Hi Girls! It's great to see so many people here and read everyone's stories. Congratulations to all of you losers! Christina, you hang in there - that small of a gain could be due to exercise, water retention, or even how you stood on the scale.

Right now, I am limiting myself to 1200 calories, but only until I figure out what not smoking is going to do to my metabolism. I am starting the exercise thing slow because while I was smoking, I had asthma. Since smoking is what caused it to begin with and was the trigger, I was pretty much unable to exercise while I was a smoker for the last year or so. Now that I'm not smoking, it's much better and I feel like I can start to safely exercise.

My eating plan is pretty boring and doesn't change much day to day, but I purposely chose things I like since I will be on this a LONG time and don't want to feel like it's a chore to follow. I knew I needed to follow something very structured during the time I quit smoking. Another thing I have done is really space out my food so it never feels like I'm depriving myself. I think it also keeps the metabolism going which can be an issue after quitting smoking.

One more thing 'bout me then I'll quit rambling. Girls, I work for a company that owns 20+ grocery stores - that means food samples EVERYWHERE! :yikes: One good thing though, I sometimes get to try brand new things on the market. The new Kraft South Beach frozen entrees are awesome!

Anmyreah 01-31-2005 09:00 PM

:cp: :bravo: For you Diana
My DH has been trying to quit smoking for so many years. this D-day was going to be the finale but it just didn't happen. I can't say he doesn't try. He does understand how hard it is for me to lose wt because he has the same problems with tobacco. Good luck with the wt loss. With all of us here helping each other it should really help. I know I need the support of a group like this and I hope we all stick to our goals.
 Anmyreah

P.S.
Under my name I have a scale that does not want me to step on it but when I hit my goal I will chose a friendlier icon.

Nice work with the roll call Joetta! :cp:

Well, I was awful today although I didn't eat too many calories, I ate garbage! Ugh! I'll do better tomorrow :)

A little about me:

I'm a newly graduated librarian working in a medical library part time on contract. Yuck :( I have a DH that is a FT student studying Interior Design. He has two years left and so I have to survive in a bad job market (for my profession that is) in the meantime. So we're broke and that makes it hard to diet. I have a beautiful Rottie that inspires me to go walking and wrestle, but I mostly fear exercise because I too have asthma.

So at the beginning of the year I decided I HAD to DO SOMETHING about this extra 35 lbs I've been carrying around. I've not taken good care of myself and I want to feel better about me. I've been counting calories using fitday and eating low fat and more fruits and veggies. I try not to go over 1400 cal/day. So far I've kept losing, but I have a feeling that may come to a screeching halt. I can't imagine dropping to 1200 cal/day like MMarie said - I'd go crazy too! :dizzy:

We've got a great group! Hopefully we can persist. :)

About Me

First of all thanks daybyday and Lori? for the supporting words on my gain :)
I'll try to remeber all of your names :^: Lori, Almostheaven, Katushkacz, Mandy Jane, Donna, Karen, DaybyDay, Kerry, Jenn, Marie, and Anmyreah ..is that everyone? The last group I belonged to seemed to fizzle out. I hope that this one will remain active :grouphug: :gossip:
I'm a 30 year old, single/divorced, confused on a major, college student with one cat and one dog that I treat like children. I work at Hen House grocery store as the Customer Service/Team Leader and have a small crush on a co-worker that is also interested but is shy...there I said it
I need some easy ideas for breakfast and lunch that doesn't need to be heated up or kept cold..any ideas??

MandyJane 02-01-2005 02:09 AM

Hello again ;)

Thought I'd better add to the information gathering!

I'm 38 (very soon to be 39) and I have PCOS which makes me gain weight {sigh} so my whole life seems to be spent trying to counteract the gain. I have spent two years trying to lose weight with little success - I put a lot of effort in to lose weight and then I get too busy, take my eye off the ball and WHAM back it comes!

I have a 14 (nearly 15) year old son - I am a single parent though dating and engaged! I work for the local authority as a Customer Services Manager and tutor Postgrad students in Pensions! I'm also studying for a training qualification.

I have to do everything to lose weight - low fat; low calorie; low carb. I tend to use the carb cycling method which basically means eating low for three days (my weight loss days) and then moderate for the next four so that I don't depress myself too much.

On my low days I average about 1,000 calories and 20g carbs - the moderate days can be about 1200-1600 calories and 50-60g of carbs. I lost weight well last year when I started adding weight training to the mix but I just haven't got back on that exercise wagon yet

Welcome All!!!

WOW! :?: I AM NEVER GOING TO REMEMBER ALL OF UR GUYS NAMES! AT THIS POINT.... I CAN JUST REMEMBER MINE  BUT I AM REALLY HAPPY TO SAY... WE TRULY HAVE A GOOD GROUP GOING HERE! :D THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED!... ANYWAY JUST GIVE ME A FEW DAYS AND HOPEFULLY I WILL GET TO REMEMBER ALL UR NAMES EVENTUALLY....

ANYWAY SINCE EVERYONE HAS SOMEWHAT INTRODUCED THEMSELVES... I WILL TELL U A BIT ABOUT ME.... I AM MARRIED 48 (THIS THURSDAY) I HAVE A 12 YR OLD SON SOON TO BE 13 IN MARCH... ALSO I HAVE ONE STEPDAUGHTER 21 IN COLLEGE AND STEPSON 19 IN COLLEGE. I WORK FULLTIME AS A QUALITY ASSURANCE PERSON IN A GLASS MANUFACTURING HOUSE IN BRIDGETON NJ NOT TO MENTION A SWING SHIFT 3 DIFFERENT SHIFTS.... SO I AM ON A DIFFERENT SHIFT EVERY WEEK! :dizzy:

IMAGINE TRYING TO WORKOUT A FITNESS SCHEDULE WITH THOSE SORT OF HOURS... T :o BUT I DO MY BEST TO FIT IT IN ... I HAVE MY UPS AND DOWNS WITH THAT.... AS A MATTER OF FACT... WHO SAYS U CANNOT WORKOUT AT NITE??? I JUST FINISHED 2 MILE WALK TAPE WITH LESLIE SANSONE BEFORE I CAME ON TO POST..... I HAVE DECIDED TO ADD SOME MORE CARDIO TO MY WORKOUTS... I BELONG TO SOMETHING LIKE CURVES CALLED LADIES WORKOUT EXPRESS AND I TRY TO GET THERE.... 4-6 TIMES A WEEK... BUT HAVE DECIDED TO ADD ANOTHER WORKOUT IN DURING THE DAY WITH EITHER CARDIO OR SOME LITE STRENGTH TRAINING... SOMETIMES I THINK I NEED MORE THAN THE 1/2 WORKOUT

THE OTHER PROBLEM WITH SHIFT WORK IS TRYING TO STICK WITH A DIET
THATS A TRIP... ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM WORKING 12AM-8-AM :?: BUT AGAIN I DO THE BEST I CAN...

I HAVE TRIED WEIGHT WATCHERS THE FLEX PLAN AND DID QUITE WELL WITH IT... I EVEN HAVE SOME MORE MATERIAL I HAD ORDERED ONLINE ABOUT A YR AGO REGARDING THE FLEX.. I WAS INTERESTED IN THE CORE PLAN.. BECAUSE I FIGURED IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE THE SOUTH BEACH DIET WHICH I ALSO LIKED... BUT HERE WE GO.... CHRISTMAS CAME.... AND WITH THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE AND SHOPPING AND PARTIES... FOR SOME REASON I REALLY GOT OUT OF WHACK! :o I HEARD THAT IF U ARE ON THE CORE PLAN U CAN EAT OUT OF THE CORE... AND GET 35 POINTS??? SOMEHOW I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT... AM STILL CONTEPLATING THE MEETINGS... BUT I ALSO HAVE SOME INFO ON THE LA WEIGHT LOSS DIET.. BUT GOSH THAT SEEMS A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED.... WITH THE 3 DIFFERENT JUMPSTART PLANS... WHEW! I TOO WISH I DIDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYTHING I PUT IN MY MOUTH... BUT I DO.... THATS THE TROUBLE WITH DIETING... U ARE CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT FOOD...

MY BIGGEST DOWNFALL ON THE 4PM- 12AM SHIFT IS THAT FOR SOME REASON I FEEL WHEN I GET HOME... I HAVE TO EAT SOMETHING.. NONETHE LESS INSTEAD NOW I AM GOING TO DO A 20- 30 MIN WORKOUT OF SOME SORT AND TRY TO POST ON THIS SITE.... TO ALL OF YOU GREAT PEOPLE!
I TOO LIKE LORI AM INTERESTED IN EXCHANGING DIFFERENT LOW FAT OR LOW CARB OR LOW WHATEVER HEALTHY RECIPES... I LIKE TO COOK WHICH I GUESS IS GOOD.... I DON'T EAT VERY MUCH FAST FOOD.... ONCE IN AWHILE I LOOK TO HAVE A NICE FRESH WHEAT BAGLE FROM DUNKIN DONUTS.. ALSO LORI. THANX SO MUCH FOR STARTING THIS SUPPORT THREAD.... LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE WE HAVE NOW! ;)

I THINK I WAS PRETTY GOOD TODAY, AN EGG BEATER OMELET WITH ONE PIECE OF WHOLE WHEAT TOAST, LUNCH I HAD BROILED SALMON WITH 1/2 CUP OF RICE AND STEAMED CAULIFLOWER, FOR DINNER A 1/2 CUP OF ESCAROLE SOUP MED SALAD WITH 1AND 1/2 TBSP OF RANCH DRESSING, I DON'T REALLY LIKE A LOT OF DRESSING ON MY SALAD, AND A VEGGIE BURGER ON A LT ENGLISH MUFFIN, I SPACED OUT TWO SNACKS ONE A SLIM FAST SNACK BAR AND A 1/2 CUP OF LF BAN YOG WITH A SMALL APPLE.
I AM ONE THAT LIKES TO EAT SMALLER MEALS... SINCE I WORKOUT I THINK I DO BETTER EATING ABOUT 5-6 TIMES A DAY.

IT WAS GOOD MEETING ALL U NEWBIES! HOPE I GET EVERYONE'S NAME RIGHT . TAKE CARE HAVE A GREAT DAY! :)

DONNA

Mandyjane: The Exercise Will Come... Its Hard At First... But Just Like Weight Loss Take It A Little At A Time.. Start Small Like A Brisk Walk.... Maybe Say For 10 Or 15 Mins... And Then Work From That... Mind U Thats Just An Example... I Don't Know What U Are In To... But The Best Advise Is That U Have To Like What U Do... Because If U Don't U Won't Stick To Ur Fitness Program... Thats What We Are Here For.... Start Maybe With Twice A Week And Then Build It Up To Maybe Three And So Forth....

Hi!!!!

I am Kathy and would like to join your group!!! I work full time at a hospital as an Er registration clerk. It is a great job and I finally got a great shift that I like. I work Fri/Sat days (good so I can go out if I want, or I can stay in and quilt..(my passion) Sun/Mon/Tues i work swing shft. (good because I can go to Church, and stay up late and get up at 9:00!!

Nurses like to eat and there is always junk food around. I have been on WW for 4 days and have totally stopped induldging in that stuff. I will not go over on my points even if I dohave 35 extra a week. I don't want to use them.. I have 58 lbs to lose and I am in a pre-diabetic state. If I don't lose this weight I will have to go in medication and if i do that..I will have to prick my finger. I am a whimp. really. So my doctor is giving me a chance to get my weight down and blood sugar in contol.

Since I am on WW I can have lots of different stuff, but I am trying very hard to lay off the sweets and get myself off it. I feel better when I don't eat sugar. I don't like water but I have been drinking it. Everyone says I make faces when Idrink it. Funnyhun?

I am married, husband disabled, 2 married dd's, 1 new grandson who lives with us (dd and sil too) and I am totally in love!!! He smiled at me every time I spoke to him today. I am so proud. He is another reason I want to get healty and lose this weight. I want to be the grandma that takes him on the roller coster, and the water slides. If i don't get smaller I won't want to. I fogot to tell you I am 51.

It was nice to read all your post. This will be a fun group

Kathy

lmatis 02-01-2005 06:16 AM

Good morning all, and welcome cathy! Tell ya what how about everybody PM me with your email address and I will get a short name and about me kind of list. That will help everybody remember everyone. for example: Lori *Aka lmatis, 2 sons and a DH. Work daylight for a bio-hazard company. I will list everybody with a shorten bio. What do you think??? If you want I can also share your email adresses with one another but please make sure you let me know that. I won't share anybodys unless they tell me too! Also I was thinking about sending me PM's with 1 favorite reciepe a week, maybe workout ideas and we can do like a news letter email or post, what do you think???

Christina,
That is hard, not cold not warm hmmm. Can you put an ice pack in a lunch box? I leave my lunch on my desk in my lunch box (our fridge is always full at work) Shed some light on the situation and I'm sure we can find some good food ideas for you!

Mandy Jane whats PCOS, I'm sorry I probably just need it spelled out I never heard of it before?

I have a really different out look on dieting than most people, I can't follow the structured diets too well so I kind of do my own thing. I chose low fat food and I am probably in a good cal. range, I just choose not to look! :^: Last time I had my weight down, I continued to follow low fat but I gave myself one cheat day a week. What ever I wanted, it helped with parties at work and the Sat. night I have no life feeling, rent a movie and stay home! :D I could never give up pizza, eating out, and pepsi for the rest of my life, I would just be fat and the heck with it! :D

We seem to have a great diverse group of people with all differnt types of issues. It brings so many more great ideas to the table!
Hope everybody has a great day!!!!

lmatis 02-01-2005 08:36 AM

My poor kids, no mother of the year award for me! I sent them to my mom's and headed for work. I called and told them it was cold not to go to the bus stop 20 mins early (which they love to be first) and told them to bring the change home from their lunch money. I'm driving along, the sun is shinning and it's cold but pretty morning and bahm it hit me they have a dentist appt. I start calling, frantic for them not to get on the bus, I was over half way to work! :dizzy: I swear I need to pin notes to my forhead! So I'm off to a usual CRAZY morning. It's monday here ever day!!

Loud_Librarian 02-01-2005 10:12 AM

Oh Man Lori! What a morning you've had!

I woke up with a horrendous headache. :headache: probably paying for all the crap I ate yesterday! This morning I'm having my coffee and oatmeal and sticking to a good eating plan all day.

I am wracking my brain for things that Christina can take for lunch, but all I've come up with is fruit and veggies! Can you get a cooler pack? That would help considerably. Then you could take some hummus, pita, veggies and an apple. That's one of my favorite healthy lunches.

PCOS = Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I know this bc I've been ttc for 18 months and I'm a member of another online support group for that  And I know lots of women struggling with it. I also have great hopes that getting my weight/fat down and becoming more healthy will help with my fertility issues. Of course it's all stress related for me - ALL of it! :stress:

Christalynn 02-01-2005 03:32 PM

A question from lil ol' me

Hiya,

I have a problem taking vitamins..they make me sick. I've tried all kinds even the "natural organic" kind. I took one a few months back and of course, I was sick to my stomach. I can't remember if I took it with food or not. I took one of the One A Day Weight Smart today w/food and no bads signs yet.

Now to my question :^: Any thoughts on One A Day Weight Smart?

Eventhough I gained this week, I still rewarded myself on my 15lb loss. I bought a cute little purse @ target for $10. I've also started saving for my goal reward that includes a shopping spree and a trip to Glamour Shots.

I'm starting another mini goal for myself. I want to be at 200lbs. by
the time my Tennis class starts @ the end of March.

lmatis 02-01-2005 03:52 PM

Christalynn
My opinion on vitamins, they are ok as long as you are not using them to replace food and your not taking some crazy amount. I'm sure your not so go for it, espically if they don't make you sick!! I have a bad time remembering my prescribed meds let alone anything else. If you like the let me know, I think they are pretty new on the market. My father in law took the reg. one a day and he said after a week he could feel a difference. Kind of a boost in his energy and other things.

KYColonel 02-01-2005 06:18 PM

Hi All!
Welcome Kathy! My husband is also disabled--he has multiple sclerosis. He has a wonderful attitude about it, but he would still much rather be working instead of being at home most of the time. The house we have now has a huge detached garage and a 2 car carport attached to the house, so he has the garage all to himself! In Ky weather, I don't worry about the vehicle in the carport--not enough really cold weather to make it a big deal. I have decided that in every marriage, there needs to be a detached garage--should be written into the vows!!!!!!!!!!!

I ventured onto the scale today--196.5--down another pound and a half--whoo-hoo!!!

I have been taking fruit to work for lunch, I have no snackies in the drawer, and I don't carry cash to tempt me to order from the chinese restaurant--it is working!

As for working, since Lori is the gatherer here, I am a certified financial planner (so I am a little familiar with the pension stuff {oh good grief!! I have already forgotten which of you gals is into the pension thing!!}) I am also an administrative law advocate, dealing in social security disability hearings--boy do I get some interesting clients there... I'll have to share some stories someday.

My 15 yr old stepson is one of "those" gifted students, but a real hoot to have around. Quote from the loving one--"Joetta, you have more rolls than a pastry truck!"
Never a dull minute around our house--laughter abounds.

Will probably be on a little later tonight, but am now heading to the cross-country ski machine. The dust bunnies have been flying out everywhere from years of non use!!

later gals!
Joetta

lmatis 02-01-2005 09:05 PM

Today must be one of those busy days, not many came out to play :( .. And I just can't stay up this evening! Tomorrow is my early day which means at work before day break (YUCK!) I hate getting out of bed, I just want to lay there and drink my coffee :coffee: !!! I'll check back in the morning from work. In case you missed it check my post from this morning on page 4, I had some email ideas and I want to know what you all think!!
Oh and I sqeezed in 30 mins of cardio this evening. Ya know this working out at night is working well for me! Well ok having you guys to chat with is working out even better!! :D
Have a good evening!

Christalynn 02-01-2005 09:57 PM

Hey gang,
How do I calculate how many calories I need per day for weight loss?
I'm 5'4 224lbs
Thanks

KYColonel 02-01-2005 10:14 PM

Hey Buds!
Christina, I know that I have found that info that you are looking for by going through a search engine (ie Google), sorry, but I have no idea now what website I found for that, but just search for "calories for weight loss" and you should be able to find something. Or maybe some of these smarties here will be able to guide you better.

I managed 1 hr 20 min on the cross-country ski machine this evening (in 20 min increments), so celebrated with a glass of red wine (good for the heart, right?).
Growing up in a strict Southern Baptist household in a dry county, I did not learn at a young age to drink. So now, a glass of wine has me looking for my pillow! I think that classifies me as a cheap drunk!!!

G'nite all, chat with you all tomorrow evening. Oh, BTW, I am not much of a TV fan, but while visiting up north a few months ago, nothing to do in the motel room (hubby fast asleep), so I started watching what I thought was a movie about a plane crash. Turns out it was the first episode of "LOST", so now that is my one and only tv show that I watch on a regular basis, and da boys (hubby and son) actually pretty much leave me alone during that time, so tomorrow is my night for an hour alone............Okay, so I am rambling..told you I was a cheap drunk!!!!
Joetta

Loud_Librarian 02-02-2005 08:59 AM

Here is a great weight loss calculator that I've been using and I really like it: http://www.globalrph.com/dieting_calc.htm

I had a great diet day yesterday. I was able to stay away from sweets and stayed way under my calorie max for the day. I hope I can keep it up. I still get on the scale in the morning because I still can't believe that I am weighing in at 155. I was 165-168 for so long. My clothes feel better too and that is a great incentive for me to keep it up.

I hope you are all doing well also. I wish I had more control over other things in my life, but I guess I'll keep doing what I can. Have a great day ladies!

lpnin03 02-02-2005 08:59 AM

Christina~

I found a site that basically said to find the number of calories to maintain the weight you are at, then multiply your current weight by 10. If you want to lose weight, take your goal weight and multiply it by 10.

As for your vitamins, I found that they upset my stomach sometimes too, so I will take them before I go to bed. That way I sleep through the upset stomach.

Hope everyone has a great hump day! I'm off to Curves. I'll try to check in again later!

Christalynn 02-02-2005 10:36 AM

Thanks Kerry and Jenn.

I figure that in order to lose weight I need to eat 1400 calories a day :?:
I've checked out several websites and everyone tells me a different amount so I'm just a little confused.

lpnin03 02-02-2005 11:30 AM

Christina~

I would say that 1400 calories sounds about right. But then again, I'm no expert on this weight loss thing. :D I am trying to stick to around 1000 calories a day so that I can get some of this weight off quick before my cruise at the end of the month. :crossed: I could kick myself in the rear for waiting until the last month to do anything about my weight. :kickcan:

Let me know how the 1400 calories goes!

Christalynn 02-02-2005 11:44 AM

Jenn.
I will keep you updated. I was getting a little confused by all the different websites. Everyone of them told me a differentt number and so did the one here at 3fc..it said 2074 calories.
I think I'm gonna take it one day at a time and see what works best.
I'n gonna buy me a scale so I won't know how well I did until Tuesday or Wednesday.

miata1997 02-02-2005 11:53 AM

Hi Everyone..Thanks for the big welcome. I had a pretty good day yesterday except I ate too many peanuts when I came home from work last night. Need to tell husband not to bring them into the house or I will just have to hid them, get them off the table. Ate well at work, but didn't drink enought water. Will do better today.

My husband is disabled cause he got hit with a 500 lb wrecking ball and lived to tell of it. He hurts pretty bad all the time, but he a very nice guy. He is very much over weight so i am encouraging him to lose weight too but he is not really there yet, he says he is but I don't see it...

Today is a day off. Only 1 this week, then I work 5 days, then off 1 day then work 2 then.....off to Shreveport Louisana!!!! to visith my daughter. I am so excited. I will try to eat well there, but there might be a few splurges. I just can't wait to see her and hang out. She will be going to Korea in July for a year so I this will maybe the last time we see each other till she come home on leave. Thank goodness for email and maybe we can set up a web cam too. Anyone know anything about getting on a site and being able to talk?

Well got to go finnish a quilt for a meeting tonight. I get to show off 2 quilts tonight that have been waiting to be finnished for 6 months. Yea!!! I did it!! 2 quilts finnished.!!!

bye now

Kathy

Loud_Librarian 02-02-2005 12:49 PM

The number of calories you need is very contingent on the amount of activity in your lifestyle. If you are sedentary you must eat less to lose weight. The more you exercise, the more you can eat and still lose weight. ;)

MandyJane 02-02-2005 01:17 PM

I've always found this guide to be accurate on calories:

HOW MANY CALORIES SHOULD I EAT EVERY DAY?

The exact number of calories you need each day depends on age, sex, height and the amount of exercise you do. The bigger you are, the more calories your body needs to function. If you want to lose weight you need to eat fewer calories than your body uses. As a general rule, follow these guidelines:

If you want to lose 14lbs, eat 1,250 calories per day; if you?re between 14lbs and 42lbs overweight eat 1500 calories per day; if you have more than 42lbs to lose eat 1,800 calories per day.

MandyJane 02-02-2005 01:19 PM

After having said that I eat 1500 cals or so four days a week and about 1,000 on three days per week - but then with PCOS it isn't easy to lose weight and you have to go that extra mile! ;)

Christalynn 02-02-2005 01:24 PM

Mandy Jane, Thanks for the guidelines. I'll try it.

judydc 02-02-2005 03:14 PM

Hi--

I'm back after a few crazy days. I'm home sick today, the bug finally caught up with me, but not as badly as it hit some of my co-workers, so I hope it passes soon.

Christalynn, I can sympathize with your confusion! All these charts and formulas are just a tool to help you figure out what will work for you, in combination with exercise and what your habits were before. You will probably have to futz around with them again in a couple of months, as your body adjusts to the amount of calories and exercise you're doing, so you don't get stuck on a plateau. I'm not counting calories right now, but I'm thinking that I need to start again. I think my portion sizes have gotten a bit too generous :^:

Kathy--I'm not a big peanut fan (now, almonds or pecans, that's different), but last month a friend from Georgia sent me a big bag of fresh peanuts, right off the farm. Man, were they good! I had to get rid of 'em, I couldn't stop noshing in the evenings.

So far I'm doing well on my goal to eat EPP (exactly per plan) between now and Valentines Day. I don't much like working out, though. I've been repeating this to myself several times in the AM and PM, and now and again throughout the day--"Too much food is damaging to my body. I need my body to live. My body deserves respect and protection. Too much weight is bad for my body. I am shedding the extra weight." I got the idea from a magazine article. It feels a bit weird at first, but now it just flows through my mind, and is almost reassuring.

Anyway, good luck to you all!

judy

lmatis 02-02-2005 04:21 PM

Hey, crazy day at work!! ;) Christina, glad you got some info to help you I don't know much about cals. From what I have noticed 1200-1500 seems to be the most followed around here.

Joetta, the dust bunnies? Was that thing at my house? If I don't clean this weekend the health dept. is gonna come to my house and shut me down :D !

Looks like everybody is getting off to a pretty good week. Phil, the ground hog saw his shadow this morning which means 6 more weeks of winter. What a hoot the sun is shinning and it's 40 degrees of course he would see his shadow! Oh well good thing it's all in fun!

I ate way too much at breakfast, we were in our meeting this morning which is normally an hour, it went on for two. When I got out I was ready to eat everything in my luch box, which I almost did! :D

Heading home shortly, the only nice thing about coming in early is leaving early!!
I'll check back later!!

Marie 02-02-2005 06:09 PM

Hi all, I had a hectic day yesterday, filled with all kinds of things, so I couldn't check in. I stayed with my plan all day and I've been exercising per my schedule. Just call me a robot at this point. I really want to see at least 10 more pounds come off after maintaining my weight loss for 3 months. I have even been drinking more water. I want the fat to go away.

Today is exercise day and I'm looking forward to it. I love the Gazelle (elliptical) machine and how smooth it is. It is so easy on the joints. It was definitely a good investment. The nordic track bored me to tears and exercycle didn't work my arms. I have wings on my arms so they definitely need a good workout.

I'll pipe in with a little about myself. I amd the database manager and webmaster for a school district. I also assist the network administrator so he has a back up. Some doays are hectic and some days are plain boring. But no matter what, there are days when everything works and you accomplish a big project (read solve a big problem) and the job feels great. That is today. I feel great, I accomplished a lot.

Personally, I am a dog mommy. Yes, I have two boys (18 and 19) but they're so grown up now that I am a dog mommy. I just adore my puppies. I have three, a Golden Retriever, an Alaskan Husky and a Siberian Husky. The alaskan is my baby and I just worship the ground she walks on (BTW, she knows it). My plan with Blizzard (my Alaskan) had been to ski jour with her, that is cross country skiing with a dog on a harness working with you. But she developed bad hips and arthritis at 9 months. So she's just my love. I want to train my Siberian, Kodiak, to ski jour since he's now old enough and he has perfect hips. But he's a wild boy and I think ski jouring with him could be akin to taking my life into my hands. But we'll see. I haven't given up hope on that yet. My Golden is the eldest and dumbest. She's a sweetie though.

I'm a stained glass artist and have been doing that forever. I have oodles of glass in my house tand this past year, developed a web site to try and sell some. That hasn't gone too well since I'm not a business person and getting on Google isn't so easy. Anyway, I love the art.

I also machine knit and am a beginner. I'm almost done with a cardigan - my most difficult project so far. I'ts grape purple and it's turning out beautifully. I should finish tonight or tomorrow night. I also sew, quilt, and goof off.

I've probably rambled enough for this post. :)

Take care and my next post won't be focused on me. I promise.

Late night post for me:::
Strange day, but then what day isn't????
2 hours late getting home since I had to give a girl a lift, "Lost" was a rerun, and the exercise machine started growling at me (not that I blame it!).
But in spite of the growling, I got my hour in.

Donna, how is the smoking cessation going?? That will be such an accomplishment to be forever free of that! Just keep envisioning the silky hair, non-leather skin, no more black goo on everything in the house, and the smell of fresh air!!! I'm rootin' for ya girl!!

Karen, pardon my ignorance, but I have to ask--Who is Rusty Wallace???? (I know, I know, I do need to get out more!!)

Have a great day tomorrow--I'm off to take a much needed shower!

Joetta, not out more, turn on the tv :D ! Rusty, drives nascar. I amazed that you like Lost, my husand was into when it started but he has lost interest. Were big CSI fans, I was more than irritated over the state of the Union last night because CSI NY wasn't on :( ! I just went to bed.

The kids have baseball sign ups this weekend, another dreaded year of sports, practice, and spending a small fortune on equipment! It's not bad enough to just be busy on a normal basis, but throw in practice and games and I would rather eat out (HUGE WEAKNESS!!!) :^:

I wanted my son to get me the scales I asked him to hide, thank goodness he won't cave in! "You'll get it Sunday night for Monday weigh in, now get out of my room it's too early to get up!" I ate too much for dinner last night and I'm slightly worried, ok I'm paranoid!!!

I've only gotten 2 PM's so far with short bio info and email addresses, I would like to get the list together and out this weekend for those interested. If your not interested in sharing the info that's fine please PM me and let me know. A cheat sheet with names and a little info about our group will help me keep everybody strait! :dizzy: Ok, I have to get ready for work, hope everybody sticks to their plan and has a great day today!!! :)

Snow, Snow Go Away!!!!

Well, it is snowing outside! :stress: I remember when I was a kid I would pray for snow every night. Now that I'm all grown up (ha ha) I hate the snow!! That is unless it is a weekend that I am off from work and I get stuck in the house and don't have to do anything but catch up on sleep!

Hope everyone did well yesterday. I did sneak a few chips when I was leaving from work. The nurse that works night shift came in with a HUGE bag of chips and I just had to grab a few. I feel bad for her. She is already a rather large lady and every night she comes in with enough food and snacks to feed a family of three for a few days.

No Curves for me today (already been 3 days this week). I am going to focus on this house that could be health hazard before I head in for another evening at work! :dizzy: Excuse me while I vent for one quick second...... Am I the ONLY person in my home that can see that the floors need to be vacuumed, laundry needs to be put away, dishwasher needs to be emptied, the inch of dust needs to be removed from everything???? :censored: I have seriously thought about just letting everything go and see how long it takes for him to GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!! :dz:

OK, I feel better now that is out! :D Have a great day and everyone keep up the GREAT work!! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,
Sorry that I've been MIA for a few days. We are having computer problems at home and I haven't been able to come out and play. I sure hope we can figure it out. I'm at work right now and since the boss is gone, here I am.
Lori...Thanks for the answer to Rusty. I have been a fan of his for about 13 years. I really hate that he's retiring after this year. So sad for me.... :(
I really like Dale Jr. too and when Rusty doesn't have a chance, I always pull for Jr., so he will be my driver next...
I started my calorie counting today (and writing it down) and I've been on the exercise bike for the last 3 days..That's a big accomplishment for me...I am so lazy.. :dizzy:
But anyway, just wanted to say hi and good luck to everyone with whatever plan you are on.. :D

Hey Gals!
Thanks for broadening my horizons Lori and Karen! As for tv--I am not a big fan at all..while single I didn't bother having one, but now that I have 2 males in the house, I broke down and bought them one that takes up half the family room!!! (with surround sound of course--one of my many insane moments!) While in a motel room with hubby fast asleep and nothing better to do, I turned on the tv and watched whatever came on--happened to be "Lost" (which I thought was only a movie). Much to my chagrin, it turned out to be just the first episode, so I decided to watch at home the next week. Da boys left me alone (read:whoopee!!) so it is now a weekly thing for me. But I still can not sit through a rerun--I find myself thinking that I need to rearrange my sock drawer, or something equally important...

Marie, you sound like a crafty person....ah, yes ...I remember those days ....back when I had time to call my own..........Picture me green.

Lori, I thought my sprts mama days were over when Justin had enough of Little League. Unfortunately, the coach at his new school this year told him that he needs to play football--by hey, I did learn a few things during the season..The players actually do more than spit and scratch themselves. They seem to think there is something called a "game plan"... silly boys!

Have done 40 minutes of the sweating thing today, and the eating was pretty good--so here is my cheer for all of you...

If I can do it, there is absolutely no question that each of you can outdo me fourfold!!! go to it girls!!! And of course tell me how wonderful you are doing just to put me to shame...........give me the incentive to keep it going!

Hi everyone,

Karen, Dale, Jr. huh? He's definitely not my favorite. I get the idea that people like him just because of his dad. But, hey, what would I know. I'm a Jeff Gordon fan. Why, I have no idea other than he's much maligned and I go for the underdog. DH and I checked nascar.com yesterday to find out when the Sonoma race is and it looks like I'll be going to my first Nascar race in June. I've been to an Indy car race, but I don't follow that anymore. Nascar is way more American.

Joetta, way to go on the exercise. It does start to begin to feel good after a while and the body does miss it if you don't do it. It's pretty much a habit with me, but I still have my days when I have to force myself to get on the elliptical.

Jenn, I sure can relate with your rant, but for me, it's more towards my kids and the kitchen. Both of my sons are cooks at restaurants but they can't cook their own food. They're 18 and 19, BTW. And dishes, there's a dishwasher for goodness sakes. One would think able bodied young men could hold a dish, bend over and slide the dish through the slot. Yes, I definitely can relate... :)

Lori, I tried figure out the PM and so far am unsuccessful. Pretty funny since I've sent on in the past. So I'll keep working at it.

Today is my Friday. In other words I took off tomorrow and it's weekend a little early. Tomorrow I'll have the house to myself for a few hours. That doesn't happen too often. I'm just hopeful I'll be strong willed against my diet competitor - the munchies. They are evil and I must resist. At work I've been doing pretty good. Now I just gotta be good a home without DH supervising.

So, today was good food wise and it's a non-exercise day. I'm going to work on my knitting and just vegetate tonight. Tomorrow I plan to finish my sweater and try to make a complete one in one day. I love the knitting machine. It's just way faster than by hand.

Have a great night and I'll talk to you probably throughout the day tomorrow. The computer always beckons me.

He-he-he this might turn into a race debate! :D My husband likes nascar, only because he does well every year in the nascar pool at work. They all told him the didn't want to play if he was going to. I swear we are cheering for somebody different every week. Personally I LOVE drag racing! I used to do a little in my younger years (lied about my age and everything, oh I was soo bad  ) I don't knit well, I only ever learned to make one stitch and I can't pay attention to count! I am crafty when I feel like it, which isn't much anymore. I like to sew, but I never have time to finish anything! :^: Well I must say the diet almost went in the can today at lunch. We had a big to do last night at work, some emergency drill. Police, fire depts., ambulances, FBI and all. It looked like a parade! Anyway they ordered too much food and well I almost got introuble until I spotted the pasta with no meat. Saved, but I did over do the bread, I love bread!! Any way even brought some home for dinner. We couldn't get it all in the fridge at work! So I was feeling very lazy not having to cook dinner, but I did finally get up and do 30 mins of cardio. (I'm soooo glad I did!) You all have a good night, CSI is coming on. I'll chat tommorrow.

g'nite all

One last post before I head for my pillow.
Growing up in the backwoods of Western Kentucky where I drove like a maniac on those twisty gravel roads, the nascar stuff seems so lame (a circle already? where is the challenge in that?)
I do have a little nephew that is into the nascar thing, but da hubby and son were in the Chicago area too long to get into the racing thing, but now, hey if you wanna talk about da bears and da bulls--they are right there with you!
Okay, my heart healthy glass of wine is kicking in, so the thought processes are even more warped than normal--- being a stock broker, I can talk about the bulls and bears also!!! Alright--it wasn't funny to them either! :dizzy:
G'nite all!

Marie...Jeff Gordon fan huh? Well, that explains it... Actually, I hated Dale Sr. for years. Probably up until the year or two before he died. I really don't care for Gordon that much but atleast I don't hate him as much as I used to... ;) We go to Talledega twice a year. We went to the night race at Bristol last year and will try for the fall race at Bristol this year and the Atlanta race. Can you tell we love racing... :D I hope you enjoy your first live race. There's just nothing like it....I hope you don't take offense to my Gordon remarks. It's all in fun...

lpnin03 02-04-2005 02:06 PM

Ok I guess I should pipe in on the NASCAR thing too! Dale Jr. all the way!! I like Dale Jarrett too. I think that he is hot for an older man! Oops, let me rephrase that.... a man older than me!! :D My DH and I are big fans. We have been to Martinsville and Richmond. I personally like the smaller tracks. I like to be able to see the whole track. And there is nothing like being there. Yes, it is nice to watch on t.v. cause you can tell what is going on a little better, but at the track when you have the headset on and can hear the drivers, and all that noise and the smell of burning rubber!!!! OK, I quit now! ;)

I was a little bad at lunch today. I had to leave the house early to go to school with my son and I didn't have my smoothie. I called my bestfriend and she wanted me to go shopping with her. She just had a baby 4 weeks ago so I jump at any chance to see them. Well, she was hungry (breastfeeding and ALLWAYS hungry) so we went to a steakhouse cause I knew that they had really great salads. I ended up getting a steak fajita rollup. It was good but I couldn't eat much of it!! I stopped before I was full so that I wouldn't be miserable!! The only bad thing is that now I am bloated big time! Everytime I eat "real food" I get so bloated.

Well, enough rambling on and on. :blah: Hope everyone has a great weekend!! :)
