What to do???

Good morning everyone!!

I don't have to work today!

The kids are at school/daycare! :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb: :cb:

And it is the start of a new week (weigh in wise). Your right at least the scale didn't go up so I need to focus on the positive.

My house is clean. :dancer: My mom and stepdad are coming this evening and I have the whole day to do whatever I want. I just don't know what to do with myself. :chin: I get a day like today about twice a year. Maybe a pedicure/manicure is just what the doctor ordered for today!!! Well gotta hop in the shower and get on with the day.

Have a great Friday ladies. :flow2: :flow2:

Paige :balloons:

rtardif 02-18-2005 11:43 AM

Paige, don't be so discouraged. You may just be exchanging fat for muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. So don't feel bad for one week's scale response. And while your're losing weight, no matter how much you exercise and don't eat, you're going to hit plateaus. It's just your body adjusting to everything. You'll start seeing the pounds drop off again. I'm sure of it. Just stick with what you're doing. (Besides, there's that whole female thing with the hormones and such.) That's why I weigh myself only once to twice a month.

If you exercise, it will go.

Robin

lmatis 02-18-2005 06:45 PM

Paige, I would kill for a 4lb loss in one week! I usually lose 1-2 if I'm lucky :D ! One week I only lost 1/2 lb. so 4lbs means your doing great!!!

Ok the scales are not looking to promising this week, Ok I peeked! But even if I didn't lose I'm all excited that my endurance and fitness level has improved!! I was able to do my whole step tape, arms and all from beginning to end!!! I'm impressed with myself! I'm planning on measuring this weekend so we'll see if I have any number changes in this area.

Did I mention I'm sooooo glad it's FRIDAY? Well I am!! The kids are helping to finish up some left overs so I don't have to cook big tonight (thank goodness) I think I'm gonna make myself a tuna boat tonight so I'm going to go eat, I'll be back!!! ;)

kpe 02-18-2005 06:53 PM

I wish!!

Lori- I would kill right now for a 4 lb weight loss too. Unfortunately in was .4 lbs. Anyway I just got on quickly to check my mail etc... My hubby has a project he is working on and will be on the computer all night. I'll check in with you all tomorrow.

I need to vent.  I know that some people just don't get how hard it is for others to lose weight. But why do they have to they have to make it even worse by being inconsiderate. I've done really well all week - no sugar or sweets, at least up until this afternoon. There are only six people in my immediate office. Three thin people who can literally eat whatever they want, and the other three of us who are all at least 50lbs overweight. My boss, one of the thin ones, brought in a icecream birthday cake this afternoon for one of the other thin people. I was the only overweight one in the office at the time. They went to serve it up and I refused. I really didn't want any. The three of them gave me a hard time about it. I finally relented and told them I wanted only the smallest piece possible. I took the piece back to my cubicle, where I wasn't going to eat it, but just throw it away. As I said, I really didn't want this cake. Just as I went to throw it away, my boss said I could (meaning should) go join them at the conference table. So I ended up going over there and picked at the cake. When they saw that I wasn't really eating it, they kept giving me a hard time about it. I finally just ate the *&^$ thing to shut them up. Now, I'm pissed at myself for giving in, and pissed at them for not being more sympathetic. I can honestly say it will not happen again. Next time, I'm just going to tell them that if they don't like me trying to better my health, then they can shove it ....

The coworker, that I have a weightloss challenge with, and I just got back from a walk. He wasn't in the office while the cake was being served. So, he got lucky.

It was my 3rd walk of the day, though. I've taken three, approx 3/4mile walks today. And I will still do my 2-mile walk tonight. And I will go hiking and work out this weekend. But I'm still mad...

Thanks for letting me vent.

lmatis 02-18-2005 07:35 PM

Ok, I have an idea! Here is how you handle this, you must tell them that you were at the Dr. and your blood pressure and cholestoral levels are dangerously high. If you don't get on the ball and get in better shape you will have to start taking medications. People are jerks about others being heavy, but nobody wants anything bad to happen to you. It's best if your going to play this number to do it soon before cake is served up again! That way it dosen't look like a last minute ditch to avoid the cake. I'm not kidding this works, I have gotten out of all kinds of junk food the past month because I told everybody loudly that I had to go see my thyroid Dr. and if I didn't drop 10lbs before I went she would put me on diet pills, oh and I said they had a real hiddous side effect. I'm such a liar :D!! But I do have to go to the Dr. that wasn't a lie, but she would only give pills if I asked for them! I figure that should get me to the appointment and my first goal. When I get back from the Dr. I'll have a whole new excuse (I just have to think of one)! And yes that was rude, but on the other hand they have apperantly never had a problem. We have a Dairy Queen up the road so ice cream cakes are always popping up, not to mention dilly bars. I have lactose problems, and it is painful, so they let me off the hook when I mention it! They have no idea how bad it would be for them  !!! When all else fails LIE LIKE A RUG!!!! :D

rtardif 02-18-2005 07:58 PM

I don't lie very well. People can always tell. And besides, we've sat around and talked about our health issues, and other than needing to lose weight, I'm very healthy. My blood pressure and cholesterol are very low (good low); I recently took a glucose tolerance test and passed with flying colors (which they all know about); and I'm the only one in my office that hasn't had the flu or a cold this year. So, I seriously doubt that they would buy into any Dr.'s orders thing. I'm just going to tell it like it is. If they don't like it, too bad.

And this icecream cake was from DQ.

KYColonel 02-18-2005 08:20 PM

My two cents worth....

Robin,
I have a habit of being brutally honest, so when I read your post, I thought if that were me...I would, like you, be angry with myself. So next time, I would just say, hey guys, I got really pissed at myself the last time I let you talk me into eating something that I really didn't want--so go ahead and bug me all you want---I AM NOT EATING THAT TODAY!!! It takes me too much extra time exercising just to get rid of calories that I really didn't want in the first place!

I'm all for no lies--but that gets me in SOOOOOO much trouble! Especially with idiot co-workers! But I think it will earn respect in the long run.

And you might ask, "Hey, do I bring in alfafa diet drinks and force them on you? Back off!"

Go get 'em girl!
Joetta

Alfafa?? That sounds rough even on the most seasoned dieter!
Yea, that's about as straight forward as it gets! My co-workers push because they are afraid that somebody will feel left out, it always takes me back when I say no and they keep pushing, I would never do that to anybody. But that's just me, I know my one friend who has always been thin (even during pregnancy) has a real hard time excepting no thank you from me, she wants to understand and be supportive, but she just doesn't get it. You can cheat today, you don't do it everyday, but what she dosen't understand is that there are temptations every day. I have tried explaining it to her 100 times over and well my cat understand better than she does. I agree Robins co-workers sound like they might need an eye opener. I couldn't take that aproach at work, they would get offended. My honest truth with them is I'm tired of my knees, feet and back hurting so I'll pass on the sweets. No thank you and disappearing saves alot of hounding and ill feelings, it's sooo hard when they just don't understand!

lmatis 02-19-2005 08:23 AM

Good Morning :coffee:! It's a cold morning here in PA, and I didn't want to get out of my warm blankets! But I can't lay there forever, or can I??? Ok, I'm going to send out an update of our short bio's.

Ok, let's get this receipe sharing together PM, or email me your favorite receipe. Let's make this week a dinner theme, please include the nutrition values (if you know them)! Let's make the dead line for this weeks receipes Friday, I'll put them all together and make one big post next Saturday.

I have to get a shower, go get my hair cut, and go to the grocerie store today! I still haven't found my fat free parm. cheese, so I'm going to check another store today! I think if I find it I best buy a case!!

I hope everybody is having a GREAT weekend!!! ;)

KYColonel 02-19-2005 08:49 AM

Mornin' all!
Busy day for me as well, couple of hours in the office this morning, birthday lunch in Louisville, then back home to clean as we are having overnight guests (a neice and her husband) They have a cute little beagle that they can not take into my sister's house, because of her severe allergies, so when they come to visit, they (along with the dog) love to stay at our house. They are so funny, they will keep me laughing till I ache! (This is the same neice that ransacked my closet for "vintage" clothes!) So I will scrub the shower and stock up at a liquor store in preparation for their visit.

Tomorrow I wll put more time in at the office...

Sounds like a blast, huh?????
Have a fun weekend gals!
Joetta
Oh, and hey Lori---Your good luck charm is getting closer to the pot of gold!!!!

KYColonel 02-19-2005 08:58 AM

Oh, I have to share this one!!!!

Let me preface this by saying that hubby, munchkin, and I each have an extremely warped sense of humor. :joker:

After my shower, I put on my panties, sat down and was putting on my socks, when my darling, loving, husband started laughing. Knowing that he had a warped thought going--I gave him the "what know?" look.

He said, as I was bent over pulling on my socks---"That is kinda like tying your shoes in the car after the airbag has deployed, isn't it?"

I thought that was sooooo funny. I do appreciate dry, quick wit, even if it aimed at me!

Just had to stop and share that one--now back to my coffee :coffee:
Joetta

kpe 02-19-2005 09:23 AM

Hang in there Robin!!! I myself tend to be alot like you Joetta. I speak my mind whether I should or not. I hate it when skinny people have no consideration for how they make those of us who are not so fortunate feel. Maybe if you kept somekind of special snack at work so when this kind of thing happens you can still "join them at the table" but you don't have to pay the consequences later.

I forgot to tell you all about this great idea I had. (yes, I do have them once in a while HA HA) I got this idea from an ad in the WW magazine when I saw a bracelet that you use to help you count your points. I thought well I don't need to count by points but I do need to do something to celebrate my losses. So I ordered a charm bracelet and it came 2 days ago. Each charm says something different like family, love, believe, hope, etc... I get to add a charm with every 10 lbs. I loose. This way when I am tempted I can just look at my bracelet and remember all the reasons why I am doing this and I have a visual of how far I have come. I started with one charm "family" on my bracelet and I am really motivated to add the next one.

Well my kids are up and ready for breakfast. Enjoy your day ladies!!!!!

Paige :balloons:

Loud_Librarian 02-19-2005 11:09 AM

Good morning Ladies!! :coffee:

Paige - LOVE the bracelet idea!

Robin - I so sympathize!! I come from a whole family of food pushers! My Mom's a food pusher, my Grandma is one of the worst, my Dad, My SIL, my brothers, my aunts and on and on! They're all food pushers! When I was younger I was thinnner, but just couldn't eat as much. I swear part of the reason I ended up overweight is bc I got tired of saying no no no to all the food pushers. What's worse is I think I caught it from them! :( I LOVE to bake and when I do I get offended if people won't eat what I make. So I'm not baking right now! It's a shame to let the beautiful Kitchenaid mixer sit there all lonely, so if anyone has anything low cal/fat I could bake - HOLLER at me! :)

I say honesty is the best policy as well. I've been telling people at work no because I am trying to eat healthy and stop eating sweets. Of course I can't leave the chocolate ALONE! We have a co-worker that has some sort of GI tract issue that she can't eat anything processed so she never eats with us and everyone at work has become less pushy since she joined us.

I'm still arguing with the scale about what it says. I don't think I should weigh again until Wed. That should be my weigh in day. I'm killin myself here getting on the scale everyday. I'm doing great with my meals, but the snackin and chocolate thing could be a lot better.

Well, I have some work to do. So I'll be on the puter most the day - programming away. :dizzy: Enjoy your weekend ladies!

lmatis 02-19-2005 12:33 PM

Kerry, I have some great low fat baking receipes, how about choclate angle food cake?? One of my favorites!

Anmyreah 02-19-2005 01:07 PM

Goodmorning Everyone
I had my eggs and diet toast this morning with juice. I'm trying to stay on track. My daughter and two little ones are coming this day so I baked a sour cream coffee cake with fat free sour cream I hope it tastes okay. Has anybody else did any baking with the fat free sour cream? I made up some elk barbecue so I have supper done. Just need to think of meals for Sunday and Monday. I went to dr. Fri. my bottom #on my blood pressure was 100 and I'm on B/P pills already. So he said watch the salt. But I thought I already did that. I love sunflower seeds and my friend makes them so she made me a bunch with no-salt substitute. She didn't like them but I thought they were okay. Well better go get dinner on the table. Talk later.

Anmyreah

Loud_Librarian 02-19-2005 03:25 PM

Lori - I would love to have your recipe! Anything chocolate AND low fat sounds GREAT!!!

Anmyreah - Let me know how the cake turns out with the fat free sour cream. I might try that too :)

lmatis 02-19-2005 04:49 PM

I have tons, I own so many cook books it is really kind of alarming. I just got back from getting my hair cut so I need to toss some color on it and get a shower. I'll get dinner together and get some receipes together for you guys! I swear I get my hair shorter every time I go, if I keep this up I'm gonna have a crew cut :D !!!

Loud_Librarian 02-19-2005 05:55 PM

I have a wonderful collection of cookbooks, but only one light cooking. I looked through it today and everything looked SO complicated and it didn't have many desserts. I am ok with regular meals. I generally cook the same things just replace beef with ground turkey, use ff sour cream, light margarine, canola oil, ff ranch, etc. When DH wants tacos, I have taco salad LOTS of greens!

So yeah, if you have any low fat or light baking recipes send 'em my way. Chocolate anything is great since I have a chocolate craving that cannot seem to be satiated lately! How about a low fat brownie anyone :D

We're having thin sliced lean grilled chops tonight with couscous and french green beans. I'm splurging with beer while grilling :chef: and low fat ice cream with a itty bit of chocolate sauce for dessert. I slept late and I've only spent 500 cal today so far. My folks are coming for the day tomorrow so I am sure we will eat our way through the whole day! I told you already they're the food-pushers. It's all about the choices I make wherever we go though right! :smug:

This will solve any cravings, they are rich and wow. I don’t do all the details, I melt the chocolate in the microwave, and I don’t sift anything.
This is from Susan Powters "Food" book.

Chocolate Mousse Bars

2/3 c. flour
½ c unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ oz unsweetened baking chocolate
1 Tbs canola oil
6 extra-large egg whites
1 ¼ c sugar
¾ c unsweetened applesauce
¾ c unsweetened applesauce
½ c plain nonfat yogurt
1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 9-X-9 inch baking pan with oil and wipe off excess or use a non stick pan.

2. Sift together flour and cocoa powder, set aside.

3. Melt chocolate in a double boiler. When melted, turn off heat and add oil. Mix until combined. Cool slightly.

4. Beat egg whites on high with sugar until very fluffy. Add applesauce, yogurt, vanilla extract, melted chocolate, and dry ingredients. Lower speed and continue beating until well incorporated.

5. Pour mixture into baking pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. The center of the mixture will feel firm and not liquidy when touched. A toothpick inserted will come out covered with batter, not clean.

6. Cool and serve chilled. Cut into 16 bars.

1. Preheat over to 350.

2. Sift flour, cocoa, and ½ cup sugar together. Set aside.

3. Whip egg whites until foamy. Add cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form. Set aside in a large bowl.

4. Whip whole eggs with 1 cup sugar until creamy and golden. Add vanilla and almond extracts and mix until combined

5. fold whole egg mixture gently into whipped eggs whites.

6. fold dry mixture gently into egg mixture, until just combined.

7. Pour mixture into a 10 inch tube pan and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Invert cake and cool.

Howdy!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!! My husband is taking a break from the computer so I thought I would get on quickly before he gets back on. He is working on a big project that needs to be done tonight.

My mom is here so we have been running around Houston looking at fabric for window treatments. I am so depressed. In my mind I know exactly what I want, but can I find anything I like.... NO................ I came home and told my husband that we just need to sell this house and start over, he then reminded me that we just moved into this one Ugh.....

I need to cook for the week tomorrow so I have been looking for recipes. I think my husband is getting tired of Chicken. So I am going to try to vary things a little more.

Well he is standing behind me looking over my shoulder so I guess that is my cue to get off the computer. Until tomorrow ladie!!!

Paige :grouphug:

Loud_Librarian 02-19-2005 09:40 PM

Thank you Lori! I can't wait to make the chocolate angel food cake! Yum! :)

kpe 02-20-2005 10:12 AM

Hit and Run!!

Ok, ladies this is what I am going to call a "Hit and Run" post. I had planned on writing more until hubby walked in ( he needs the computer ). Anyway I hope everyone has a great day and makes good choices. I will write more later. Just a quick hello!!!!

Paige

lmatis 02-20-2005 11:06 AM

Good Morning :coffee:!! Why does the weekend have to fly by?? I can't believe it's Sunday again! I have to get to the store today, I didn't squeeze it in yesterday.

Ok Paige, tell hubby your going to need your own laptop because he's just hogging up to much of your chat time  !!! Yea, my hubby would tell me to go pound salt and walk across the road and use my mom's computer.

I think I have a laundry conspiracy(sp) going on, the clothes are multiplying in the baskets, I know it, I just can't prove it!

Did I ever mention to you guys about my friend who looks like a life size Barbie? Well she's a hoot, she is usually in great shape, just has problems with her butt zone. Well she got pretty lazy of Christmas and has put on 13lbs so she's working out and trying to eat good and she called me yesterday crying that she put on another 2lbs. I'm trying not to laugh at her because she was truely upset, but I had to tell her to get her head out of the sand, she lost inches around her waist and her jeans fit better, and if she dosen't knock it off I'm comming to take her scales!! I had her laughing, I said try looking at 40+ lbs over weight and then we could talk. So I had an eventful day on the phone trying to convince her the numbers weren't important. How does one get so engulfed by the stupid numbers??? I still hear so many girls say the chart says I should way X lb's I could scream. I NEVER was in the chart range! I always weighed way more than I looked, I didn't know about the muscle until I ran into a body builder and he spelled it out. Anyway, I'm not going any where with this so I guess I'll quit rambling!

I hope everybody is having a great weekend and remember PM or email me your favorite recipes so we can share!!!

Anmyreah 02-20-2005 07:55 PM

KYColonel 02-20-2005 09:02 PM

A quick hello...
The weekend with the houseguests was a busy one for me. The neice and nephew invited friends to come over for drinks and laughter (okay with me)--all stayed up way too late and drank way too much--except that I never allow the drivers to imbibe. They brought their laundry with them, so mine will have to wait a day or two.
One of my hubby's friends from Chicago drives a bread truck, was down for the weekend and brought cases--yes CASES of Hostess--everything imaginable!!! I hate that guy!
more tomorrow...
Joetta

Marie 02-20-2005 09:54 PM

Hi all, I know it's been a while. I've been a lurker since life has been so busy. But Joetta, you just had me laughing outloud. A case of Hostess?!!! I'd have to kill myself. Holy smokes, what was the guy thinking? He's probably just trying to be nice and generous. Since they're all sealed, maybe you can give them to the food bank or something equally magnanomous.

Lori, the Barbie friend - I can relate with being irritated with a 2 pound gain on a Barbie friend. Sometime they should try walking in our shoes. Oh yeah, they wouldn't be able to lift them with their skinny legs.

We are in the midst of a major remodel of our house. We bought oak laminate for the entire house to replace the pukey carpet. The house looks like a bomb hit it (I'm a non-clutter type of person) and we are painting the living room, family room and kitchen. That's mostly why I've been a lurker lately. Too much home improving and I'm not the one doing all the work. I'm just the helper bee. DH is doing all the work.

I need all of your help. I am eating out of control. I don't know why, I just am. I'm not hungry but I eat. Maybe it has to do with the upheaval in the house, but I just don't know. So if you have words of wisdom, threats of torture, please lay it on me. I need a swift kick in the butt. Seeing all of your losses (weight) have me jealous but still not motivated. What's up with me?

Well, time to work again.
TTYL,
Marie

lmatis 02-20-2005 10:18 PM

Joetta, Ha-ha-ha-ha  Oh my that's soooo funny, there he is trying to do something nice for his friends and your standing in the back sizing him up for a ditch in the back yard  ! We have all been there before. Hand them out to every neighbor kid you can find!! I was thinking the same thing with my dear neice reminded me I owed her money for girl scout cookies, forgot I order them and what was I thinking so many boxes!

Marie, we need to change your choice of snacks, or should I saying grazing treats. I have days when I swear all I do is graze!! Go for the pretzels (salty, but low in fat and can do the trick), pop corn and get creative, not the darn bag stuff. I have been known to use molly butter stuff and cinnaman and sugar, can I just say wow! I have made a big bowl and put some in a bunch of little ones and just tried differnt spices in them all. Oh another favorite dry cereal, although I can't eat straight from the box the kids wouldn't have any left for breakfast! Veggies, love carrots in fat free dill dip!! And I always have a glass of ice water within reach, a must at all times! I keep dumping it out and refilling it, I never finish a whole glass the ice melts and I want it cold.
I got to get to bed, can't wait to hear everybodys weigh ins tomorrow!!!!

L@urie 02-20-2005 10:23 PM

Hello, I am new here (ut oh another newbie!) and had to click into this group - I work about 45-50 hours a week, and 2 hours a day commuting. Normally my husband and I don't even bother trying to cook during the week. So, it's been pizza, carry-out and fast-food for years, and boy does it show. Plus, I'm 46 and the weight is really glued-on well! I just joined WW today and am going to try the Core program. I also have exercise induced asthma, but I have it mostly under control, and plan to introduce exercise into the mix. I really am happy to have found this group.

kpe 02-20-2005 10:43 PM

A new week on the horizon!

Hi everyone!!! I was finally able to kick my hubby off the computer. So here I am.

Laurie- Welcome to our group. I am also on WW and have been for about 3 weeks. I choose the flex points because I just don't think I can do the core plan. Good luck with it. You have made it through one of the hardest parts. Just deciding to do it. I know how you feel about fast food as well. :mcd: :burger: :jeno: If it didn't arrive at our door or we couldn't pick it up from a window then we didn't eat. I have to say I have cooked more in the last 3 weeks then in the last 3 years.

My mom and stepdad are here this weekend and won't be leaving until Tuesday. They have been very supportive and have been eating WW recipes while here. My stepdad has to have something sweet in the evening so we made pop cake tonight. It is very interesting I must say. Just a can of diet soda and a cake mix. You don't need to add water, oil, or eggs. It was really good! I used a choc. cake mix with a diet coke. Everyone ate it up including my kids! :eating2:

I did 2 miles on the treadmill tonight. :tread: I haven't been on the last couple of nights. I have also had a hard time drinking my water. My mom and I have been running around town all weekend and I just kindof forgot about it.

Here's to a new week and what ever challenges lay ahead of us, together we can get through anything.

Paige :grouphug:

lmatis 02-21-2005 06:24 AM

Good Morning :coffee: !
Off and running on another week! A big welcome Laurie, we can all relate to take out :D , still my favorite!!! But I will have to behave, and made a promise to myself, once I get to my goal weight we can eat out once a week! I have a short bio list that I'll PM you, and when you get a chance you can send my your info too. It really helps with remembering everybody, were all so busy not everybody is here everyday and confusion can really set in!

Interesting idea with the cake, how fast and easy it sounds!

Ok, my Monday weigh in is sizing up to a one pound loss for the week! That is good, it's still moving in the right direction!! I only have two more weeks to go to hit my first goal, which is 10lbs. As long as I continue at this rate I'll make it!

I'm going to go get ready for work, I'll check in later!!

Good morning ladies! I've been MIA for a few days. Things have just been crazy around here lately. This week will probably be even worse. We leave for our cruise on Saturday and I have not packed the first thing. :dizzy: I always wait until the last minute. I only have the day before off from work so hopefully I can get everything done!

My son is home from school today. They have parent-teacher conferences so I won't be able to go to Curves today and get weighed in. Probably a good thing cause I don't really feel like I have lost much this last week.

For those of you that are on WW, I found the most wonderful treat that is only 2 points. It is Blue Bunny Vanilla Almond ice cream bars. They are sweetened with splenda and like I said only 2 points. You should really give them a try.

Well, need to go get in the shower so I can get ready for this conference.

Have a good day and good luck to everyone that is weighing in today. :D

So the scale and I came to an agreement that it says 152! :goodscale When I get below the 150 point I'll probably faint right off the scale. I even started exercising this weekend - doing pilates and yogacizing. I'm going to try to stick with it. I need to get out there walking too, but it's been raining and chilly here in the evenings.

Thanks for all the great recipes ladies. I probably won't be able to try them until next weekend, but I'm looking forward to it.

Jenn - enjoy your trip! I'm so jealous! :o

I'm still hot on the job search, but still no bites. It can be very depressing and it makes me want to eat CHOCOLATE!! :nono:

Loud_Librarian 02-21-2005 06:42 PM

Lexington is on the radar! :p UK has DH's ID program and also a good library system. So far nothing available there :(

We are both from Indiana and have family up there so would be willing to do the next couple years in the midwest, but so far NOTHING. Right now I have resumes out to Florida State, Virginia Commonwealth, NC State and a law firm in SC. I'm starting to feel worthless :( esp after a depressing day like today. Where's the chocolate

lmatis 02-21-2005 08:49 PM

Kerry, I'ld invite you to look for a job in PA, but after you got one look at our property taxes you'ld run for your life!!! :D Keep searching, one will fall right in your lap when you least expect it. Have you thought about being a library teacher at a school? Just a thought, not sure of your interest or what kind of qualifications you would need.

Pizza Buffet, where, I'll be right there, oh what am I thinking, I don't fly and that's too far to drive! :dizzy:

Well I must be getting stronger, I bumped up my weights today to 3, 5, & 8's. Wow I can really feel it. Ok, I'm going to run and get my evening chores done, chat with you girls in the morning!!!

lmatis 02-22-2005 06:09 AM

Good Morning :coffee: !
Not much to report today, after I got my chores done last night I went to bed and watched a little TV. Boy am I itching to take a day off work, I don't know what gets into me sometimes. The weather is down right crappy and staying home wouldn't accomplish anything. We didn't hear much about weigh ins yesterday, I hope everybody did good!

I made a huge pot of chili last night and DH took the kids out for tacos before I got home from work, so nobody was really hungry. I'm taking the chili in my lunch today, but I really shouldn't eat it again for dinner tonight. Too many days on chili really rips up my stomach, I wonder if it would freeze? Ok, I'm rambling so I'm going to jump off here and get ready for work! I hope everybody has a great day!!! And don't forget if you have a recipe you would like to share get it to me by Friday night so I can have them ready to share over the weekend!!!

Loud_Librarian 02-22-2005 08:14 AM

Yes you can freeze chili! :)

As for the school librarian thing, I'm not certified to do that. There is a special track for K-12 Librarians and they become cerified teachers in the process. The school system probably wouldn't be the best place for me and I knew that while in library school. Of course now I just want a job! I am mainly focused on University/College libraries (even tech colleges), medical & law libraries. Although, I would consider anything "special" like inside a biz for instance Disney or NBC, etc. . . Yes there are libraries everywhere, but I swear you have to wait for someone to die to get a job - I see it all around me. I work with some serious geriatrics.

I shouldn't have gotten on the scales this morning. AF showed yesterday and I am bloated and feeling icky (sore throat, sinus). The scale did not say what it was supposed to! But I'm ignoring it until next Monday. :smug:

Marie - Good luck with the remodeling project. It sounds like it will be wonderful with all laminates when you are done! :)

Good morning ladies! Weigh in this morning was good. 2 more lbs. :D I must say, I am really impressed with myself this go around. I think that these weekly weigh in's really help.

Had a horrible night at work yesterday. We have this inmate that is 25 and in August he was shot in the abdomen by a police officer. After all of his surgeries he ended up with a ileostomy. When he first came to our jail, the word around town was that he wasn't going to receive the type of medical care that he would in the hospital. My boss started to treat this inmate like he was royalty or something. She made a trip to the grocery store to buy him ginger ale and fresh fruit. :?: Well, he started to become royalty alright....a royal pain in the butt!! He goes through ostomy supplies like crazy. At least 2-3 times a week he is wanting a new barrier and bag. Just to fill you in a little, these things are expensive as crap and WE are paying for them. He will pick at the barrier so that it won't stick or he will let his bag get so full that the weight will cause the barrier to come off of him. The more often you change these bags, the more skin breakdown you have in that area. There is only one type of barrier that he claims will work, the most expensive of course. We do not always have that type and he must use a cheaper version....which works just fine. I bet if he were on the street, these are the ones that he would be using! Anyway, last night he needed a new one and of course we didn't have the one that he wanted. When I handed it to him, he started to complain that it wouldn't stick to him and threw it in the trash. Then all of a sudden he had one of the expensive barriers that he just "happened" to find and wanted to know if I could cut it to the right size. I told him that I couldn't do it at that moment because I didn't have scissors on me but that I would take it back to medical, cut it and bring it back to him as soon as I had a chance. He wanted to know a specific time when I would be back. I told him that we were very busy and that I would get to it asap, but I could not give him a specific time. He took the barrier away from me and asked the officer for a grievance. By this point I was so mad at him that I just wanted to stand there and tell him EXACTLY what I thought about him......but of course I handled myself pretty well. I just ignored him and started giving another inmate his medication. Then this little creap looked at me and said, "Nurse Coleman, my bags are no different than you females changing your tampons." I told him that was a little uncalled for, there is a big difference in the two and that he could get away from me before I had him charged. Technically I could have him charged with destruction of jail property (since he threw the bad in the trash) and charge him with the cost of the bag. We were so busy last night that I didn't want the hassle so I didn't charge him with anything. When I go in today, I will talk to my boss about it and see if she thinks that we should charge him. I want this inmate to realize that we are not at his beck & call and that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. I did see a note in his chart last night that said that the doctor told him that he could only get his supplies once a week. I am going to get the doctor to actually write that as an order so for now on when he picks at it or lets his bag get too full then he is out of luck!

Ok, sorry for that long vent but it has been over 12 hours and I am still mad!

I better go so I can get some laundry done. Only 3 more days till my cruise and I STILL don't have the first thing packed! Hope everyone has a great day!!
