I'm still reading "Library: An Unquiet History," which I'm finding to be a bit drier than I expected. I finished "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" and "The Wooden Sea." I recommend both. I have "The Amateur Marriage" on reserve at the library, but I have to finish this "Library" book since someone else has it on hold.

I'm getting fatter. Blah. I hate this. I have to diet. Oh, well, I have until next Tuesday.

Wabby, I thought the same thing about s*x in Florida!

Hee-hee, Bagzie, you know I love to torture you with my early spring babble! Why else would I live in this rainy country? Actually it's lovely and sunny and mid 50's today. I'm reading The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett. Isn't the Gardens of Kyoto by the same author who wrote Remains of the Day? That's one of my all time favorite books. How did you find a book club Bagzie? I want to join one, but I'm not real sure about organizing one. They have a couple at the library, but I want one where food and drink is involved in the meetings. My friend suggested we start a club by first reading Under the Tuscan Sky or is it Sun? and having italian food w/ lots of vino. So far it's only the 2 of us that we can get interested. Cherry, I'm putting your book titles on my list of future reads. Poor Lush. I'm in a slump too. Join the club. DH just got blood work back at his docs and it looks like he might be type 2 diabetic. He inherited all the ills from his Mother's side of the family and only his dark, handsome italian looks from his Dad's side. As we all know, Grandpa Jim is still humming along at 91. He's so thrilled because our new satelite dish tv has cinemax, which has lots of R+ rated movies. Naughty old geezer. Have a lovely weekend, cowsies, and I'm sending well wishing vibes to Frappe and her gall bladder.

Isn't it hella nice of all of us to PMS together??? I swear I've had cramps for days; what's up with that? Must be sympathetic gallbladder pain -- hope it went well, Frappe. And don't let the family wake you up

I spent half the day bent over a table pinning and cutting out fabric. Well, to be honest, I had 2 helpers and they did way more than I did. DD was one of them, to my surprise -- she tends to be a nightmare in the kitchen; I didn't expect her to be any better with this domestic foray, but she was right into it.

I also got an invite over to a real live adult person's house for tea and conversation after we got done with the cutting. DD left on the band bus for another basketball game and I spent an hour or so talking and guffawing with a couple of great broads. We discussed the hijacking of our lives by our teenager's transportation needs, among other things.

I thought Florida was one of those states where you can get your driver's license when you're about 12 -- when did they get all pi**y about it? Can't believe they can't offer on the road driver's ed -- that's ridiculous. Do the schools offer it?

I think a lot of kids need a professional instructor until they figure out how to coordinate their feet and hands and eyes and brains. Comes naturally to some people, like Frappe's DS apparently, but not to everybody. I would not have wanted to be the first person in the car with DD, believe me

WabsterSpringMaven, my newbie Oregonian friend says her dog is suffering from mold allergies in your rawther moist environment. Winter's just getting going here -- it was gorgeous today, the sun glinting off the snow, 28 deg. F, lovely. Sorry to hear about DH's health report. I would love to join your book and eating and drinking club; sounds right up my alley. I'm a very slow reader, but I make a killer lasagne.

Hang in there LushieLo, whining is good therapy. Waaaaaaaaahhhhhh, my tummy hurts.

I agree with Painty, nothing Dr. Laura says can possible be a good thing. But I'm not taking sex advice from Martha either....

I'm still up doing the *%#&@#* taxes. I'm really, really glad dh is getting a good night's sleep. That's important to me.

Hang in there, Kiwi...menopause is just around the corner. Do you realize that we're the first generation...at least I am...who spent our teens and twenties on the pill???? You don't think that my post menopausal zest will be postponed due to the foolish wish not to have children while I was young and cute?????? I don't think I deserve that. I keep thinking my time has come, but no. I remain youthful and vibrant.

Kiwi, they have drivers ed in the schools. DS took it in the summer. I think it involves 4 hours of driving but he went to see his dad or something and I don't think he drove much. There are no businesses here that teach driving other than in a classroom. I want someone to get in the car with him.

He's been working on a merit badge (computers) for scouts and that involves going to someone's house. He knows all the stuff for the badge already and complains that he has other things to do than go to this house. I love going tothis house where there are adults and social stuff. I try to tell him that it should be fun but he prefers to act like a teenager

Someone who is starting another online magazine read a story I'm workshopping and asked me to submit it. This is nice. I like the story myself.

Wow, don't they have to complete the total amount of hours of driving before they can get their permit? DD had to do 10 hours with the instructor. You need some fearless mom or dad to offer to drive with him! How about the scout leader?

I think when you go to the merit badge house, you should tell DS he can stay in the car if he wants to

Peaches is getting published all over the place!! yay her!!!!

I have a monster migraine, my back hurts, I'm stuffed up, I feel crappy. There, that was cathartic.

I need more coffee. Oh, my mother sent me a letter about an "informal book club" -- actually it's sort of a chain letter where you send a book you've read to one person and the letter to 6, but it's only got 2 levels so it's not too obnoxious. Would any of you object if I sent you one? You're supposed to get 36 books out of it! Of course it also means that you'd be sending my mother a book. hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't send any out of the U.S. because the postage would be too much? And, Painty, if you want in I need your snail address.

Kiwi, I can't bring myself to send chain letters. Otherwise, it's ok with me.

Arrow I object! But in the nicest of ways, of course!

Cool idea, Kiwi, but the postage would kill me. Maybe some day when I get back from here to there again.

I'm *trying* to get the next assignment for my course done and I've been searching for one stupid term all evening. I'll be nuts by the time I finish.

I have an aversion to the mail. Otherwise, I'd do your chain letter.

I'm still miserable and cranky.

I want to know what Sugar's term is.

I am SO impressed by the repeated publishing interest shown toward our literary giant. Don't tell any loudmouths this time. Just tell us. That's what we're for. I'll check my email.

My dd had to have 6 hrs of driver ed in the car.

We had to PAY and take kids to private commercial driver's ed program... then they got school credit and an automatic pass on the in-car part of the DPS driver's test. I took both kids to the vacated mall parking lot for them to drive first. Once they could start, stop and steer, I drove them to a little used road and they practiced. It took DD 2 years to get the courage to drive on the highway! And DS's step brother kept running into things with the parents' car, so DS was appropriately cautious.

I'd like to have a book club CHAT once in a while... (Agree with others that mailing books/chain letters isn't my thing.) I've already mentioned Angry Housewives eating bon bons (Lorna Landvik)-- the story of about 5 women in a MN neighborhood who start a bookclub... Is there already a book club thread here at 3fc... or is it only diet/recipe books? Hmm... guess I COULD go check it out.

Baggz... hold out for food at the book club....! I agree that book-related food is the most fun... and decorations... Sure it's extra work, but it contributes to the irreverence and joie de vivre of the members. I wouldn't mind being "used" if it was to bring eyebrow lifts to the public. I DON"T want to be tapped for teaching leg lifts, though.

HRT is much better than PMS... The sudden hysterectomy a few years back was sort of a shock... but it DID make life easier.

I'm missing my kids this morning. they are annoyingly silent (but probably happy, because I haven't had any whiney e-mails or calls). Hope those of you whose kids are still home can find something to enjoy about 'em!

LoLo... go smash something that makes a bunch of noise.... Old jelly jars? with a hammer? Or throwing 'em against a wall? I think a good Kali/Shiva imitation is cathartic. Just remember to wear safety goggles! And EVERYBODY'S crabby when they're doing taxes. Jeez. give yourself a break! (And either get Turbo Tax or an accountant.)

I tried to start a new thread about what happy cows we are but, you know, things go wrong.

I unpacked four big plastic boxes today. The boxes belong to Herbie and will be returned. They were filled with crap that he decided was mine. Like pictures of us in Europe.

There's a xerox of a page from a magazine about eating refined sugar and depression. The sugar causes blood sugar to drop and that affect focus and concentration.

High carbo diets can result in protein and amino-acid deficienies result in reduced neurotransmitter production. One of the transmitters is serotonin and that's what antideprssants work on. Therefore, maintaining a normal diet can do as much as antidepressants. They took longer to say it.

DS went backpacking this weekend. One of the scout leaders is a woman (with short short hair, hairy eyebrows, a girlfriend) who is very skilled and sometimes more organized than the men. The car she was a passenger in brought Ds home. Seeee, the problem is I always meet them at the scout meeting place in another town and that's where I was. But he had a key and all is fine.

How obtuse. Is that yes or no?

It's still snowing here. yay I may be the only human being who feels that way. Well, snowmobilers feel that way, but. Anyway.

DH went in to work today. How odd. I think that might be the first time he's gone in on a weekend on this job. I may have to take his temperature when he comes home.

I have nuffin to say obviously. I will just bloviate anyway. Ya know, Painty, you got your book club right here -- this is a real reading crowd. Only problem might be that we don't take direction well, so I kinda doubt you could get us to read any one book at the same time. We could start a new thread and call it "Leather Bound" -- haha get it? leather--cow hahaha damn I'm so not funny.

Here's what I'm reading: The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants -- DD read it and liked it so much she gave it to me for Christmas. Very cute.
