I like that color of green. Prom dresses didn't look like that when I was prom age. Duh. No kiddin'. I just realized that was 33 years ago.
Frappe got here after me. Dusty Jane left before that. Sugar sent her away??? She must have been bad, bad, bad! I've seen a picture of Alexa, but she (he?) was here before then too. There was someone who was posting from the middle east or something. And then there was Lola, was she the plus size thong woman? Ahhh, the memories!
I never "met" DJ but heard about her. I don't remember Alexa but Peaches and I had alternate personalities for a while. I don't remember their names either. Lola??????
Frappe, you were Lola? I'm so dim... people practically had to beat me over the head before I realized they were made up! I'm still not certain DJ was real. (Oh, wait, you were asking who Lola was. She LOLed all the time.)
DJ went all weird and religious and scary and said something I have since blocked out. I don't remember exactly what it was and I hope no one else does, but I almost quit going to cybermom cause of it. (In case DJ was a construct of someone here... I'm over it now... that was a rough year... I was very isolated.)
I remember the Alexa picture.
Peachie, I will email you... do I have your email?
I was published in Newsweek in 1997. Haven't submitted anything to anyone since about a week before the essay was accepted. I'm into self-sabotage, I guess.
Bagzzi, that's a very vibrant shade of chartreuse! I love how the dress flows!
On-Topic: My SB diet was going great until I ran into the Doritoes. Tomorrow is another day. My workout was great, though!

No, Cherry, I think DJ was a real live nut. The big blow out happened when I was away and was deleted before I got to read it...in those days we didn't know to save controversial messages. But we all smite her for hurting you.
Bagzie, the dress is beautiful...I love the color.
I'm on another organization kick. Ever since I spent a fortune at Organized Home, I feel obligated to live the organized life. I've also been pretty good on the food front. Maybe it is time to get Perfect 2004 going...I feel it...this is our year.
Or not.
Wabby, one of my goals to day will be to get the Anne Tyler book. I love her books. Then we will discuss.
Must go, perfection waits. I'm off to eat a healthy breakfast, followed by a room by room pick up. I'm so happy not to be working full-time...it has made me domestic.
Aww, you guys are so sweet! I'm crying just a little, in a good way.
Wabby, I don't know if I already said this, but the Anne Tyler book is going on my next library list. I just finished "The Secret Life of Bees," which is really good unless you're tired of stories about motherless 14-year-old white girls running away to bee farms with their black housekeepers who got beaten up and arrested while trying to register to vote. (I'm feeling kind of touchy after reading disparaging comments about this "type" of book elsewhere.) Now I'm reading "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" and "Library: An Unquiet History." (Painty, have you read that?)
Cherry, I read Secret Life of Bees and I loved it. Good story and such wonderfully expressive writing. You don't need to make excuses for books you like. Either you like them or not and I can't stand a literary snob. Are these other 2 books you mentioned good enough to recommend? I'm reading Year of Wonders. So far it's really good. Set in 1666 village in England during the plague. I love a good historical novel. And my life will seem wonderful in comparison. Can't get worse than the plague.
KIWI---- your return has been ordered!!! we NEED our moderator----especially since you are the only moderate one---------the others are extremists---especially the loudmouth ones and you know who you are----special note to cherry!!!!-I AM GOING TO SEE JANN ARDEN TONIGHT AND I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED-------I ADORE HER-!!!!!!!!! AND SO SHOULD YOU ALL-------------------also====i want to be organized as well,so share your knowledge miss ex-system's goddess-------------gotta go paint something.
Where's Kiwi. Does anyone have an explanation for her selfish disruption of our lives?
HA! I see how much everybody else has posted since I've been AWOL. Clearly my absence makes your hearts grow fonder--of each other! I should do it more often.
Oh, never mind, you know I wouldn't stay away on purpose Honestly I don't know how I've managed to be away this long anyway. Except that every time I sit down to the computer and start reading messages, I have to quit to drive DD somewhere, and usually by the time I get back to the computer, someone has closed or locked up what I was doing, so I have to start all over.
Last Sunday, went to The Mikado. I think I told you that. Very good production, niece was delightful. DD didn't get to talk with her at all, because it was the last performance and they were having a cast party while we had dinner with my sister and the rest of her family. 2 of my other sisters were there at the performance and also my step-mother. One sis was really standoffish, but more because she couldn't think of anything to say apparently. She stood there and made brief small talk. Although she didn't speak to my DH at all, which was kind of freaky. It was almost as though she couldn't remember who he was or something. Step-mom and other sis were all friendly lahdidah. My step-mom actually said something all gushy to my DD like "If I lived nearer to you, I would go to all of your performances!" I'm sure my mouth gaped open at that, the bullshit detector was clanging so loudly in my head I couldn't speak for a second... Poor DD, she never did anything to be so ignored by her step-grandmother; really I just want to protect her from that crap more than I want to reconnect with the family. Oh, and the stepmom and 2 sisses high-tailed it out of that theater when it was over like their butts were on fire. We did have a good time with the other sister and her family.

Oh yes, I still have that pic. Really scary. Actually I don't remember anything else about her (him?). I think she was overly friendly and scared everybody. Lola was a woman named Amy from Texas who was a bit naive. Last I heard about her she was cooking diet plan meals for her husband and his friends. So of course they were losing weight and she wasn't. Doormat. The thong lady was Cookie; I think she was from Louisiana. I wonder how Cranberry is?
And, no Cherry, DJ was very real (of course some things might have been posted in her name... ). What a horrible person. Why do I think of her being shut in a closet? Not figuratively, literally? There were times before we split off to WLB when she seemed kind of nice--even nurturing, then all of a sudden she turned into a hyena.
Bagz, the prom dress is gorgeous. I love that color. How many bank accounts did that cost? (Don't answer, it's better that I'm kept from that kind of info)
I liked Secret Life of Bees. Having spent "formative years" in NC, it was interesting to read -- it was very much about a part of the region that I didn't know anything about, but have always been curious about.
I'm not reading anything challenging. I just finished the latest Harry Potter and now I'm reading an interesting book of Ursula LeGuin's called Changing Planes. Fantasy. But not way-out fantasy. Then I should read a guidebook to NYC or we will just sit around twiddling our thumbs when we get there.
Okay. Am I forgiven for disappearing? Can I brag up my DD now?
I remember Lola. She kept emailing me asking why no one liked her and what she could do to "belong." She was pretty pathetic and had no sense of humor, as I remember.
I lived in Charlotte from about 5th grade til graduation, then again for a few years later on.
Just got back from another evening at the coffeehouse with DD playing guitar and singing. The place is under new management and there was very little traffic, but what was there was very appreciative. The owner gave her a gift for entertaining. This has been the week of music. She's been practicing all week for show choir and the variety show, Wed. her h.s. jazz band went to a competition, last night was the high school variety show.
At the variety show DD did 3 different numbers: played electric and sang with a friend ("Crow Left of the Murder", a new song by Incubus), sang a solo with another friend accompanying on piano--a complete surprise to us, and apparently sort of impromptu on their part (they did a beautiful, moving song called "My Immortal" by Evanescencelisten to it here ), and then she played acoustic guitar and sang an original song of her own.
Unbelievable how good her voice has become; I think she really impressed a lot of people. The whole show would have been a lot better if they had not had a lot of sound system problems. Her original song was very hard to hear, but she played it again tonight and it was pretty amazing (I hadn't heard the whole song before; she kept it very hush-hush). I don't know where she gets all this talent and drive, but it sure is cool to watch.
We're having a pool party on Sunday and we have room for more people. Who wants to come? I may not bring my bathing suit. I'll be too busy to swim, right?
Ooooooooooh -that prom dress is a dream. She's going to look stunning.
Yahoo for Kiwi's DD! How wonderful to be able to sing like that. Do you think she has a musical career ahead of her?
Tonight is dinner with the neighbours. What should I wear? There were cars parked all around their house last night - looked like a big party. I wonder if we're getting the leftovers? I'm so mean. I'm sure it will be a lovely, entertaining evening with a good time had by all.

Oh dear. I hope you weren't invited so you couldn't complain about the party last night! How much you want to bet they have some elaborate explanation about why you weren't included in the big party (offered without you asking)? Oh, I'm such a suspicious sort; I'm sure you'll have a good time -- and maybe make some friends into the bargain!
I love these. Happy Valentine's Day everybody!!
I slept too long, I'm all headachey. I've got to go shopping for junk food for tomorrow's party. I really should go up to the pool place and check things out too. I don't feel much like doing anything but hanging on the computer.
