Reina, thank you for sharing that site ...it was great! It sounds like you have the right attitude and pretty soon you will be fitting in size 8 not 18 jeans! I think I will go next week to try the Curves that opened near me.
Cjunk, sometimes it is just hard to get motivated. It sounds that you may just need to rest up. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago you were very busy at work? I find sometimes just reading a good book, taking a nap, or even cleaning my closet gives me the boost I need.
Cyan, did you buy any low-fat cheese?
My husband is on a business trip to Puerto Rico until Thursday so I am trying to cook dinners that he doesn't like ...shrimp stir fry, turkey burgers, healthy stuff. It seems when he is home I tend to eat food that is higher in fat because he is eating it.
I made brown rice with lots of veggies last night and plan to eat more tonight it was really good.
Hey girls. Sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I've been really busy, but tonight I surprisingly don't have any homework. Not that there aren't things I could get a head start on. I've decided to take the night off homework wise.
School has been good. Boring at times, but good. I am learning a lot.
Reina, I haven't been watching my points like I said I would. However, I have made a goal to be down to 180 Saturday.
I also am interested in checking out the curves here in town to see what it's all about.
I've been really tired lately. I don't know if it's the Zoloft like Cyan said or if I just haven't been sleeping well. Since December, I've been noticing my jaw is sore when I wake up in the morning. It's been getting a lot worse and today was almost unbearable. I guess I am clenching my jaw at night when I sleep. Sometimes I have fingernail prints in my hands from clenching my fists. What's up with that?
Well, I am going to make some low fat snacks while I have the time. I don't remember who but someone said yellow cake mix and pumpkin for muffins that were 2 points. I'm going to try that. I'm also going to make some sugar free jello and some sugar free pistachio pudding. YUMMY! That way I will have good things to snack on. I bought some Beef jerky to take to class. It's only like 1.5 grams of fat per serving and I take a small amount to class with me and it really fills me up. A good source of protein right? I'm sure though that it is packed with sodium. Sometimes it's give and take. Tonight we're having potato bar for dinner. Baked potatoes with butter, sour cream, grated cheese and chili to pour on. I know it's not the healthiest thing but It's better than pancakes with butter and syrup...right?
Well, I hope everyone is doing well. I think of you gals all the time and look forward to reading your posts. Talk to you all again soon!
Hi all! Missed ya'll yesterday but I couldnt get to the site. I noticed on the homepage they've had a few probs with a server or something so I guess that's why. I didnt work again today. This time it was Josh who had fever. His wasn't as high as Luke's and I dont think he has any now. Hopefully he'll be ok tomorrow. The flu and lots of other things have been going around here for over a month now.
Cjunk, that is the mood I was in Sunday. And today before I got online, I was telling Phil that I was going to have to do some research about nutrition. I just cant seem to get it right. Scales show me up a pound this week, and I didnt lose quite a pound last week altho my calories and fats have been under control for weeks now. Only once or twice have I messed up. It's very discouraging. All I could figure is that, like you, I only lose when I exercise EVERY DAY, no matter what my calories are. How frustrating!!! Last week I exercised Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs burning a lot of calories on those days, but missing Fri, Sat, and Sun I guess is what kept the scales from moving down any. It's very hard not to get depressed about it. I've had to really fight wanting to give up. I know I cant do that, but it has tried to creep into my mind a few times lately.
Cyan, glad to hear you are exercising regularly. Too bad we cant just combine my calories with your exercise. We'd have it made. I have no idea why I've been so UNmotivated the last few days. Seems it's been that way the last 2 weekends.
Betty, we'll let you slide this time but let me tell you...no more chances or that kick will be applied..lol (jk) Glad you're back with us. Congrats on your kids' team winning the debate tournament. When do you take the Praxis??
Debee, one slice of pizza? WOW! What willpower! Way to go. Josh's spelling bee is this Saturday. (It's the county one...the winner of this one will go to state) I really felt bad when I read that I was one of your exercise motivators...believe me, I'm definitely out of the running for that place the last few days. You better just look to Cyan for that one.
Lady, hope you have a good week at work. I had almost forgotten you had a job. Seems you're always heading out for some fun trip. I'm jealous, ya know.
Reina...it was cool reading your post and feeling the excitement and enthusiam you have again about your lifestyle change. I'm hoping it will rub off on me. I think I have those same jeans, but mine still arent loose enough. I try them on often, and they zip right up but then I have this "innertube" around my waist..
Lisa, dont apologize for not coming in as often as before. We're just thrilled you can find time at all for us!! I totally understand how much you have going on and think of you often. Oh, by the way, my sis made those muffins with Chocolate cake mix and they were delicious. I gave Luke one, and he never knew it was an 'experiment recipe'. Just gobbled it right up.
Well, I need to go check Josh's temp again before he goes to bed so I'll end for now.
Just a quick post....I exercised tonight...doing 25 minutes of cycling for a distance of 7.5km and burned off 250 cals. I also lifted weights for 10 minutes...just did my upper body...darn my arms are weak...geez! My food was okay...1800 cals....I know a little too high but I was craving something sweet so I had a 6 butterscotch candies...and at 42 cals a piece but no fat!! well it put me over the top.
Miki...you are so right...if we could match up your diet and willpower over food and my exercising...we would be shopping in the size 2 area of the rack
Hey Lisa....glad to read your post and I hope you getter over your tiredeness real soon...you do have a lot on your plate...school, husband and children...and a recent surgery...so take some time for yourself.
Debee..as you know, I have sworn off cheese for the week but in my anticipation of sunday....I did buy myself light feta cheese and I am planning a taste test on sunday....but only an ounce.
Lobacal...glad to have you back with us...let us know how you are doing...details please
Ladyrider..looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Taiwan, hope your vacation is going well
Annie...I send you lots of good energy and think of us as miniatures friends you keep in your pocket whenever you have to go for treatments and doctors appointments...we are right there with you...in the pocket over your heart...K?
Just a quick note..not much to report in terms of cals consumed...cause its too early in the day...LOL
Hope everyone has a great On Program day. There is only 8 months left before our trip to Chicago in October...does anybody have any long term plans ...for example...my challenge to myself is to lose 30 pounds by october which means I will have 3.75 pounds per month inorder to achieve this. This is very doable for me and I feel good about accomplishing this feat! So if things go as planned I will be down to 137 by October! My goal weight.
Today I was busy. I was putting some finishing touches on our remodeled basement. We made it into an Art Deco Theatre. I had the walls painted a deep red, bought 1930 wall lights, had a gas fireplace installed and built-in bookcases, had a computer/ticket booth under the stairs made and about 6 months ago an old theatre in the next town was remodeling and I bought 10 old theatre chairs that I refinished. In one area my husband is getting a big screen tv and home theatre, I ordered a sectional couch in there and a black leather couch and two black leather chairs for in front of the fireplace. In back of the home theatre area, I made a "dressing room". My kids love to put on puppet shows, play dress up so I put all their halloween costumes and other dress up clothes in there. The only thing left is to get design ideas for art deco bars ( that is one of the reasons we are going to South Beach in Miami over spring break...it is filled with art deco stuff) When all the funiture comes in and the bar is designed we are planning on having a Hollywood theme party... I wish you could all come! I want to go as Marilyn Monroe so I still have 20 pounds to go before I can fit in a white halter dress.
Cyan, I low the low fat feta. I put it on salads or in whole wheat pita with veggies. To answer your question, by October I plan to have lost 30 pounds, changed my eating habits, have an exercise rountine.
Miki, I wish Josh good luck on the spelling bee and hope he feels better. It is hard to be motivated to exercise when taking care of a sick child. When jake was sick, it was my worst week eating and exercise wise. You still are an exercise motivator for me, cyan may be exercise queen but you are still a princess.
Reina, hope all is well and you are keeping within your point range and up with exercise. Today, I was so busy I only had a coffee and a banana for breakfast, a soft pretzel for lunch and a small bowl of pasta with tomato sauce for dinner. I have to try to get a healthier menu tomorrow.
Cjunk, I hope you are feeling better and are swimming again.
Lisa, how do you like nusing school so far is it better than you expected?
Betty, Taiwan, lady, annie hope to hear from you soon.
Long day at work...10 a.m. til 7 p.m. with no lunch break again. Had a grilled chicken salad with fat free ranch dressing delivered for lunch. This afternoon I was dying for one of those candy bars that I know are still hiding in that drawer at work. BUT just as I was thinking I'd go ahead and have one, the produce guy ( I was working in the bank branch that is in a supermarket ) walked by and said"Hey..losing weight arent ya?" I said, "Trying to" and he said, "You're looking good...wish I would lose some." Sooooo, it made me think twice about messing up so instead of the chocolate, I settled for one of the dumdum suckers that we give out to the kids. It had 20 calories and no fat. Avoiding one temptation at a time, I just know I'll get to my goal someday. Remind me of that when I try to fudge here and there ok???
Tonite, I had a roasted chicken sandwich from Subway and a bowl of chicken soup. ( Campbells Select Rosemary chicken with Roasted potatoes) I was starving.
Since I didnt have to go in til 10, I had extra time this morning. FINALLY, I got on that Air Walker. Did 20 minutes. Should have done some more tonite but so far I havent. Felt great knowing I did the 20 minutes before work tho. I dont know why I let myself get out of the habit because I feel LOTS better when I do it daily.
Have to get up at 6 a.m. tomorrow so better get off here and take care of things so I can get to bed at a decent hour.
P.S. I didnt even realize until rereading my post that I've had chicken 3 times today...chicken salad, chicken sandwich, and chicken soup..lol Good thing it's healthy cuz I love it.
Just one more thing....ran across this as I was "surfing"...it's an excerpt from the book, "Dieting for Dummies"...I thought it was informative and just reiterated some things I know but tend to forget at times.
Ten Myths about Dieting
Eating Late at Night Is Sure to Pack on the Pounds
Your body doesn't process calories differently after dark. However, the foods that people tend to go for in front of the TV after dinner--chips, ice cream, chocolate treats, and the like--are usually high in fat and calories. The kinds of foods you're eating are the concern, not the clock.
You Can Break Through a Weight-Loss Plateau by Eating Fewer Calories
Eat fewer than 800 to 1,000 calories a day, and your body will turn down its thermostat to conserve every calorie it can get. It doesn't know whether you're a prisoner of war suffering from starvation or a prisoner in your head. The only way to keep your metabolism purring is to exercise. When weight loss slows, walk a little longer or work out more frequently or intensely--and don't forget to eat.
Never Have Seconds
Instead of using a plate of food or a predetermined serving size as a yardstick for how much you should eat, try taking hunger and fullness clues from your body. Eating according to your appetite is much healthier. And when you eat slowly, recognizing when you've had enough is much easier.
Keep in mind that there's a difference between appetite and hunger. Appetite has more to do with flavor preferences and craving; hunger is a biological manifestation of the body's real need for food. If it's been a while since you and your appetite have seen eye to eye on how much to eat, try this: Serve yourself only half of what you think you want to eat. If you're still hungry after eating at a leisurely pace, go for it--in moderation, of course.
Also recognize that you're hungrier on some days than on others. So when you're really, truly hungry, it's fine to eat more. Remember that one meal does not define healthy eating. What you eat over the course of a day, or actually over several days, does.
Deny Your Cravings; They're All in Your Head
Sometimes, the faster you give in and have a small portion of the food you're craving, the better off you are. You can pack on lots of calories by trying to eat around the one thing you truly want. Have a small serving of the food you crave and get over it.
Don't Eat Between Meals
Most people need to eat every 3 to 4 hours to avoid a feast-or-famine mentality and risk overeating because you're overhungry. Dividing your calories into three meals and two or three snacks, instead of only three meals, can keep you well fueled for the day. Try planning two or three snack-sized portions (for example, a piece of fruit or a couple of Fig Newtons plus low-fat or fat-free milk or yogurt) into your day's food choices. Doing so may help lessen your hunger pangs so that you're less likely to overeat at the next meal.
Eating Breakfast Makes You Hungry All Day
Many typical breakfast foods--Danish, toast with jelly, and bagels, for example--are mainly carbohydrates in their simplest form. These foods, while initially satisfying, are out of your system in about 30 minutes, and you need (and want) to eat again. That's why many people say that breakfast kicks off nonstop eating throughout the day.
Breakfast foods that have some protein and a little fat, in addition to complex carbohydrates and sugars, stay with you longer and give you the energy you need to make it through the morning. Whole-grain cereal with low-fat or fat-free milk, an egg on toast, and even a fruity breakfast shake made with low-fat or fat-free milk are good choices.
To Lose Weight, Become a Vegetarian
Being vegetarian doesn't ensure that you'll lose weight. Like any way of eating, a vegetarian diet can be high in fat and cholesterol, low in fiber, or both. Many vegetarian foods, including cheese and nuts, are high in fat and calories. So cutting out meat and replacing it with other equally fatty (or even more fatty) vegetarian foods is not only a bad diet move, but it may also increase your chances for nutritional deficiencies--especially if you don't plan your diet well.
Fasting for a Few Days Drops the Pounds Quickly and Shrinks Your Stomach
If you fast, you may drop pounds, but some of that weight will be muscle, and most of it will be water. You need to eat protein foods such as lean meat, eggs, low-fat or fat-free milk, or legumes (beans and peas), or you'll be thin and flabby, not thin and shapely.
There's a misconception that fasting cleans out your system. But actually, the opposite is true. When the body doesn't get food, body chemicals called ketones build up over time. That process puts a burden on the kidneys, which can be harmful to your health. Not to mention that it gives you really bad breath, too!
You Can Eat Anything You Want as Long as It's Fat-Free
Fat-free foods are not calorie-free foods; check the Nutrition Facts panel on the food label. Many have just as many calories as the original versions, and a few have even more, because lots of sugar (among other ingredients) is needed to replace the way fat tastes and feels in your mouth. In the end, the total number of calories in a food is what's important.
A little fat is a good thing because it can help you eat less by giving a meal staying power, which keeps you from feeling hungry too quickly. Instead of a sandwich made with fat-free mayonnaise and fat-free cold cuts, make one with a teaspoon of real mayonnaise and low-fat meat; it will stay with you longer than a fat-free meal.
Last night I exercised for 30 minutes on the bike and burned off 300 cals for a distance of 8.5 km My eating was 1700 and 50 grams of fat..I was very hungry and had a big dinner...I think I need stomach stapling or something.
Wow Debee...all that remodeling...how fun...you must have a big house! Describe me how it looks...so I can have a mental picture.
Miki congrats on keeping up with the exercising...and chicken is a great food to eat.
Reina..sorry to hear that you are under the gun at work...but very happy to hear that you are doing well with your exercising and WW points. Good luck today at your weigh in.
Hello ladies. Well, it's Thursday! I'm done with class for the week. For all of you who have asked, Nursing Classes have been great. A little boring at times, but all in all, very educational. I am very grateful for this opportunity.
Okay, now for the nitty gritty. I haven't been doing all that well nutritionally this week. It's still been hit and miss. I am just very tired and unmotivated. My theory is that I am slowly adjusting to my new schedule and my body will slowy adjust and the exercise and motivation will come. I've been eating Slim Fast for breakfast every morning. Lunches are difficult because if I don't snack during class I am starving for lunch and I overeat. For dinners we have whatever I think the kids AND the hubby will eat. Last night it was a ham and potato casserole. Tonight it's a chicken and pasta stir fry thing and some biscuits.
I need some good yummy snack ideas for class. I like to bring enough sometimes to share with the other 3 people at my table. I would appreciate any ideas!!
I apologize once more for not posting individual replies! I promise I'll get back in this weekend to talk to each of you individually!

15. when feeling stressed at night didn't turn to food instead took a bubble bath, read a book or went to sleep
16. keep thinking about my goal of losing 30 pounds and how nothing was going to stop me.
What I did not do so good this week
1. Was not motivated to exercise ...did only five minutes of the walking video and wanted to try to do yoga five times this week.
2. A few days I ate too few calories because I was sick or busy
3. Had to tell myself a few times that I was not going to blow all the hard work and not give in to the cravings.

6. Continue to have oatmeal for breakfast, turkey in whole wheat pita for lunch and dinner of stir fry, soup, brown rice with veggies and shrimp or chicken, salads, sweet potato. For snacks continue with rye crisp, low fat feta, cottage cheese, low fat pudding.
7. Most important to keep writing in fitday, posting here and pumping myself to be motivated ( the hardest)
My house is not real big. It is a stone colonial about 5,000 square feet on a wooded acre of pine trees in the surburbs of philly. My son Jimmy room is a space theme since he loves all kinds of science and space things. It has a hugh mural of the moon on one wall, the solar system hanging from the ceiling and bunk beds. My other son Jake loves pirates so his room is decorated with a sailboat quilt and has hand-painted waves around the room. In our room I have a four poster bed and an antique bedroom set, the sitting room has a chaise lounge in off white. My living room the walls are painted a light coca and all the funiture is white. Above the fireplace I have an antique mirror and in the bookcases I have a few of the things I collect. The family room has a stone fireplace, beamed ceiling.
The kitchen is cherry cabinets, white corian counter, The dining room has a fireplace and cherry funiture. My husband office is dark green with bookcases and antique light cherry funiture and antique cigar labels. The guest room has my vintage handbag collection. The upstairs playroom has a sage green couch, one end has my kids play area the other end are my art supplies. We have a little wine area off the family room. Well, that is about it. Someday I hope you can all come over and visit and see it in person. My older sister is an interior designer and helped me decorate when I first moved in. However, I really love to decorate....it is a hobby to me.
Just a short post for now. Going to get off of here and do some exercising. Just made up my mind this very minute and if I wait, I may change my mind. Eating-wise, I did well today. Now if I can just manage to get this exercise overwith. Yucky rainy day today so not in much of a mood to do it. Came here and read posts and decided everyone sounded on track and I dont want to be left out. Maybe I'll check in here later tonite. Bye for now..
