Wink hello

So Wardhog- here are my questions. I've been logging food and activities for quite a while now. This weekend I learned about the two boxes that pop up at the very beg. when you log on. I had never known what those numbers were. Let me know if I've got this right.

The calorie count has your goal at the top and what has been logged in for the day. The burn numbers show how much I will burn each day based on the info I put in. The bottom number is how much I have currently burned today. It changes all day long. Correct so far?

Now if I put in my weight , height etc. and my activity level as sedentary, then I should log in my exercise each day to get how much I will burn. Then from that number I subtract 500 cal. to lose 1 pound/wk or 1,000 to lose 2 pounds/wk. Is this correct?

Now my final ?? is, how effective and accurate is it? Like today I put in a 40 min. walk at 3 miles/hr. and it says I should burn 2170. So if I subtract 1,000 I should only eat 1170, which I know I shouldn't. Does this make sense?
Sorry about so many questions but I am really trying hard to figure out how much I should eat so I can lose. I am currently stuck again.

Good job on your workouts and for always staying on track.

Foucault- where are you? Haven't heard from you in a while.

Susie- how nice to get outside and enjoy some nice weather. I hear our area is expecting snow again tonight. Yuck!! Come on spring. I can hardly wait to get out in my gardens.

Talk to you all later. Keep truckin.

Hi Ladies,
I kept thinking I would get here to post yesterday and the day before, but I let time get away from me and I let other things take my time for me away. I'm not letting that happen today, so here I am!

I'm doing ok..on track..but I know if I don't get here, and post that food and read the posts it won't take me long to get off track.

I am proud to say that I have made it to they Y to workout Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and I'm planning on being there again tonight. I feel so empowered when I go and workout. Like I'm doing something about my weight.

Last night I ordered some spring clothes. I wished that they had been in a smaller size and I started to get depressed about that but then I thought, you know..eventually I will order a smaller size and even by the time they arrive I can be down 5-10 lbs. Not a big enough difference to change sizes but a big enough difference to look really nice in them.

Ok..here's my food for yesterday

B= Kix ceral w/ milk, water
Snack=apple, water
L=potato wedges, grilled veggie quesidilla w/ salsa and a bit of sourcream (just a bit), water
D=Progresso Light Noodle and Veggie soup (I love this soup..it has 0 weight watcher points and only 60 calories per serving and it's very filling), water
Snack=1 banna w/ scoop of vanilla ice cream and chocloate syrup drissled on it (I was dying for ice cream so I tired to keep the damage minimal and be a little healthy too).
Exercise= 1.5 mile walk (30 min).

Mindy: I think your questions are good ones and I'm sure that you will get the answers you need. What program are you logging your food on? I am going to try and start that in a couple of weeks.

Kelly: It was good to see your post. I find when I'm dealing with those sorts of things and getting off track that is the time that I should be posting the most..to get myself back on track and stay there..by posting. Would your huuby be open to you setting a time that is earlier for you to use the treadmill? Sometimes I get frustrated at my hubby because I think he should know what I need without me telling him. I hope you get things worked out.

Wardhog: Wow..Disneyland..what fun. With all the exercise you do, you will be in good shape to run all over that place. I hope you can feel comfortable in a bathing suit--I'm not sure I ever will..but I wouldn't let that stop me from putting on one if I was on vacation.

Focult: We are missing you..I hope everything is ok.

Ok..back to work for me.

Susie- I am using calorie-count.com. I am still trying to figure it all out. Then I am so hoping that it is actually accurate and works. I just started using the calorie burn to determine calories for the day. It has only been three days so I haven't had a chance to see how well I think it is working yet.
Good job working out. That is why I workout everyday, because if I miss one it could become 2 or 3 and I don't want that to happen.

Tom. is BL weigh-in at school. Not looking forward to it. This morning I was up a pound from last Thurs. So it will be what it is. Like I've said I just keep playing around with about 2 pounds. It's been about 2 weeks now. Yuck!! I sure hope this caloriecount thing works.

Let you all know tom. how it went. Then of course official weigh-in on Friday.

Mindy, you are right about what the numbers mean. I think it's a giving you a good estimate of how many calories you need. That said, you may need to play with the number of calories you consume, or vary it day by day to get the results you are looking for. Have you been to the Tools section - there is a tab for Allowance and one for Expenditure that might help. (Going down to 1170 doesn't seem like enough, though.) About how many calories are you logging a day?

For me, I know that I can lose when I consistently eat around 1500/day. Calorie-count calculates a BMR of 2200 for me and recommends I eat 1700/day. I think I would gain if I ate that much. In fact, it calculates a burn of 2650 for me today.

Mychoice - great job being consistent with your workouts!

Today I did 27 min on the elliptical, a Group Power class, and 18 min on the bike. I stayed on my eating plan yesterday and I am on track for today.

Foucault - Where are ya? I hope everything is ok and you're just too busy working out to post!

Wink Good morning

Wardhog- My baseline burn is 2040 with my setting at sedentary. Then I log my exercise, which is different each day. I will get to 2410, 2320, or something like that, depending on the exercise. Yeah the day it said 2210 I still ate 1205. I have been taking the burn number and subtracting 1,000 for a 2 pound loss/wk. Yesterday I read on the site to only subtract 800 from my burn number to keep metabolism up. I have been trying to stick with that. We'll see how it goes. I was down 1.5 today but that is after gaining some this week. Net loss is .5. So you eat about a 700 calorie difference? And it seems to be working. I should just trust what I'm doing and stick with it.

Official home weigh-in tom. I hope I can lose a bit more by then. Wish me luck with this whole thing.

Mindy - Well, wouldn't you know, I logged my weight today and now it's showing my BMR as 2100 and my allowance as 1600. I have mine set at moderately active. When I add exercise on top of that, I am getting a larger deficit (burn is calculated at 2826 for today). I still lose, on average, about two pounds per week when I am consistent. So I don't know if my metabolism is whacked from so many years of yo-yo dieting or what, but I can't eat nearly as much as calorie-count says I should. When I lost this weight a couple of years ago, I sort of picked a number out of the air (2000/day - I was still nursing my son at the time). Then I kind of adjusted it until I was losing consistently, and then again when I weaned him. If the weight loss slows or stalls, I may have to adjust it down again, but there is always the danger that you aren't getting enough to keep your metabolism stoked. Have you considered meeting with a nutritionist - is there one at your school? Maybe you are eating the right amount of food, but an expert might be able to look at your food diary and see something that you could change. I don't know - all I can say is that you are losing, maybe not a quickly as you would like to, but the losses are there. Just hang in there!

Today I did a 15 min mile walk to warm up, a Group Ride class, and 30 min on the elliptical. It felt pretty good, although I still have some junk in my chest. I stayed on my eating plan yesterday and I am on track for today.

It's supposed to get to 68 degrees here today - I actually have on shorts. Bermudas, but still. Are you ready for spring?

Wardhog--It's funny that it is 68 degrees there today. While we warmed up a bit, 40 maybe, it snow flurried this morning. We have some live frogs ordered for our school right now, and I overheard the secretary on the phone today with the company wondering where they are. She was laughing because they said the weather had to be consistently in the 40's for them to send the frogs. Everyone in the office chuckled and said "Well, I guess we're not getting our frogs until May!" It seems like winter will never end. By the way, I really like your advice for Mindy. I feel terrible that she is getting so frustrated, and I don't know how to help. Things that work for me aren't working for her.

I have been more consistently on track with my eating this week. It feels better. I am still trying to stay around 1500 calories a day. Sometimes I only hit 1400, but I rarely go over unless I've said "What the ****, I don't care anymore" and then eat dessert, or something crappy for dinner. Just getting back on track with my food helped me with a 2.5 pound loss this week in the BL contest. Can't complain about that!!

Wink Good Morning

So even though I started the week going up and down, I have managed to lose 1.5 since last Friday. I have to be happy about that. I don't know if it is because I am using the burn meter from caloriecount now or what, but I certainly hope it continues to work. I think I end up eating more calories (at least on the day I workout harder), so maybe that is it.

I got to change my ticker. That is always fun. We have a very busy weekend ahead, so I will have to be dilligent, especially making sure I eat all my calories.

I have to drive my daughter to the Detroit airport on Sunday. She is going to New York. She is a senior at CMU in musical theatre. They are putting on a showcase for managers, casting directors etc. It is quite exciting. I hope she does really well.

I hope everyone does well this weekend. Good luck to all.

Hi,

I tried hard to get here yesterday and I just couldn't seem to do it. Thursday's are always very busy days for me.

I'm happy to report a 1.25 lb loss at the scales this week. I'm thrilled with that. I would take that every week for a year..it would be great..and it's my goal to do it!

We are having a MAJOR snow storm here in Ohio. We should get 8-10 inches before it is over tomorrow, so yes Wardhog..I'm READY for spring!!

I won't work out tonight but I'm happy that I have worked out 4 days this week.

Here's my food from yesterday:
B=cheerios w/ milk, water
Snack=Hot chocolate
L=garden salad, 1 twice-baked potato, water
D=Taco Bell: 1 bean burrito, nacho chips and cheese, cinnamon twists, pepsi (and my bladder is killing me today for it! *ugh*).

I need to get back to work so I will do personals later.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hey y'all! Mindy, Kelly and Mychoice - what a great week you all had! Congratulations on the losses!

Good luck to your daughter, Mindy.

I did 45 min on the elliptical and Group Power today. I stayed on my eating plan yesterday and I am on track for today. My weigh-in was this morning; I am down .6 pounds from last week to 148.2.

I hope everyone has a great week-end!

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I've been absent this week. The poop hit the fan at work and everyone is going crazy. I'm fine, but it is difficult dealing with manic co-workers and a very manic boss. Apparently, there was an argument between an employee and the boss that involved screaming earlier this week after I left for the day. The repercussions of it have been pretty insane. The entire office just has bad vibes hanging over it, and things are not getting any better.

So, due to the super stressful work situation, I've been slightly off plan. Not much, though. I haven't gained, but I haven't lost. I had a terribly fattening piece of cake a couple days ago. I'm trying to teach myself that I can block all this stress out and just do my job without reaching for food as a way of coping. Because if I let the stress get the best of me, then I'm going to pig out. The situation in this office is not going to get better anytime soon. I cannot use food to cope with it or I'll never reach my 200 goal by May. I've been a bit off with the exercising, too. The weather has been touch and go lately. And I've been working through lunch or taking a late lunch because of all the upheaval. But, I'm determined to get my routine back next week.

Susie - Aren't those Progresso soups great? I love the low sodium vegetable one. The entire can is 200 calories, no fat, and about half the regular sodium in soup. I'm glad you have been able to make it to the Y for workout. Those spring clothes will look great on you, even if the size hasn't gone down as far as you would have liked. It's so frustrating to want to fit into a smaller size and not being able to pull the darn zipper up.

Kelly - Congrats on the BL weigh-in! That's fantastic!

Susie - I'm glad you still had a loss this week, even with all the up-and-down of your scales. Maybe you should think about not weighing everyday. I used to do that and I would get discouraged quite often because my weigh fluctuates so much. A lot of the successful losers who post in this forum recommend only weighing once a week or once a month. So, I'm trying to stick with that so I don't do the emotional roller coaster with the scales.

WardHog - I'm jealous of your warm weather! It's nice here, but only in the 40s. It's good to hear that you've overcome the flu and managed to hit the gym again.

I'm so glad to be back with you gals. I missed you all and I felt myself sliding off track without your daily support.

Default Personals

Hello again,

Everyone is my office (well almost everyone) has left due to the snow. I'm waiting on my hubby to get off work so we can follow each other home. It's going to be a long drive in this weather. Oh well.

So..since everyone is gone and I'm pretty much at a stand still due to that fact, I'll just do my personals.

Wardhog: Yeah..you had a loss too! I was suprised when I saw that you consider yourself mildly active! I think you are more than that!

Mtiger: I'm gald for you and your loss at the scales. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will get there. I bet you never thought you would get this far? I mean think back to last year....had you lost this much then? You are doing a great job!

Focult: It's great to see you! I'm sorry you have to deal with that situation at the office. That happens sometimes and when it does it takes a while to get up and over it. I find it best to just do my work, be nice, just listen and stay neutral until the fallout is over with. It is stressful though. You know you can come here and we will help you through it. Put your goal out in front of you where you can see it and keep working towards it. You WILL achieve it.

Kelly: Your frog story made me laugh! Congrats on your loss this week. Keep it up.

Ok..I'm going to clean this desk off, and be ready for when my hubby calls me.

I'll check in this weekend. Got to log my food!

Hi everyone--I am going to start trying to post every day, no matter how little I have to say. So far today I think I am on track with my eating. I still need to check calorie-count to see if the restaurant I went to is on there for my dinner. I plan to do some circuit training tonight after my girls go to bed.

I tried to go buy some new pants tonight because everyone I work with is giving me a hard time about how baggy my pants are. So....I easily got into the next smaller size, had 2 pairs picked out that were just o.k., then put them back. My 2 year old was screaming in the fitting room, driving me crazy, so I got fed up and just put everything back and left the store. I hope I can find an hour sometime this weekend to go back ALONE!

P.S. Mindy told me yesterday that she is smaller now than she was in 1997 (she found some old measurements), so everyone help me congratulate her!!!

Wink Good Morning

Foucault= so glad to see you back. I was hoping we hadn't lost you. GRR about the problems at work. I understand how stressful that can be. I deal with 21 5&6 yr. olds all day and unfortunately they are a VERY difficult group. If I gave in to chocolate everytime I was stressed, I would blow up like a Thanksgiving Day parade balloon. I like to color, and fortunately I have plenty of opportunities to do that at work. It helps with my stress. Lately I have been getting on the computer and posting when I get a break. That also helps. Hang in there, it will all take care of itself. Be tough!!

Wardhog- I believe that if you set your activity to moderate, then you wouldn't have to log exercise. If you do then you are getting a larger burn than necessary. That might be why you get a number for calories that seems too high. Hey, you work out a lot so maybe you just need some extra calories. What you are doing seems to work, so just stick with it. Congrats.

Susie- calorie-count.com is wonderful for helping with your plan. I use the one that says plus. Since I just figured out some stuff a few days ago I have been dropping weight. 4.5 pounds in 5 days. We would love to help you figure it all out if you need any help.

Kelly- Kelly, Kelly!! GO BUY THE PANTS! Don't wait. At least get one pair. They might get a "little " baggy, but they won't look like the ones you've got now. You deserve it. You do for everyone else everyday. It's time for you.

Like I said I have been dropping weight the last few days. I don't know if it is because I'm following caloriecounts numbers or not. I do know that it has me eating more. Maybe that's it. I don't care as long as it keeps working. Today, Sat. I am down another 1.5 to 223.5 Look out Kelly, I'm coming for you.

Mindy, congratulations! I am so happy for you!

What you said about the activity level makes sense. I will have to change it and see what it says.

Today I did a Group Ride class, 30 min on the elliptical and 38 min (walk) on the treadmill (2.4 mi.) I would really like to start a little running again, but I feel like my chest is congested still. bah! I stuck to my eating plan yesterday and I am on track for today. Oh, and it's winter again - a high of 40 today with snow flurries. Not as bad as you all have it, but it's disappointing after those couple of spring like days.
