I am new to the forum. I just joined MRC so I am just starting the pre-conditioning. I am diabetic and doing this to hopefully get myself off of my meds and control my diabetis with diet and exercise. I have to be totally honest and say that I am somewhat aprehensive about the whole program. I am really concerned about how I am going to be able to eat so little and not have my blood sugar go low. Right now my bs levels are doing very well. I am not on insulin but do take Actosplusmet and Victoza. Does anyone else have any experience on the program while being diabetic? I would love to hear if you have had any problems. I have a million questions about the program, but for now that is the big one. One other question would be when did you start seeing the weight loss? Can I expect to see loss during pre-conditioning? Thanks for the information.

I was prediabetic when I started the plan, and I felt like it actually helped control my bs levels. I wasn't on meds or insulin, though. They also have a meal plan specifically designed for diabetics-- you end up eating 6 small meals a day, which regulates your bs levels quite well. I wouldn't be too worried about it if I were you--there are many diabetics who have successfully completed this program. Just monitor yourself closely and make sure you speak up at the center if you aren't feeling well or have noticed any problems with your bs.

More than likely, you will have some weight-loss during pre-conditioning, but this will mostly be water weight. Most of us start this program not drinking enough water--and when your body is dehydrated, it tries to retain water as much as possible. After the initial water weight is dropped, most of the losses you'll see will be fat losses.

Welcome to the boards! I was also pre-diabetic when I started, so my journey might not help you out much. I also don't know what plan you might be on, but the metaslim plus seems like too much food for me. It feels like I'm constantly eating something. My program requires 3 meals, 1 snack - my biggest meal is lunch .. 6 oz protein, 8 oz raw veggies, and some sort of fruit. I sware it takes me a full hour to get it all down!

Good luck! I hope someone here can provide you more insight!

I have made these things before, so I won't have to taste test...but I will have to refuse licking the spoon and such. I know I can say no!

*rzbackcandi- where did you get your massage? I LOVE East Meets West Spa in Fayetteville! They are like miracle workers! But they are a bit pricey...
I love to bake too! I have to keep reminding myself that this isn't forever - just while I'm losing the weight. Normally I try and make stuff that isn't a weak spot for me. I did really well making Gluten Free cupcakes for my mom a few weeks ago - didn't lick the bowl or even try one .. but they smelled delicious and my mom had 4!!!! She took the rest home to freeze.

Good luck!! You can do it!

Hi..
I know you can say no.. I bake during the holidays and one thing I bake is Baklava,my forever favorite.. Well, as soon as I finish with spoon, etc.I
immediately wash it not giving me a chance to do any testings, and same goes with any mixing bowls. I never have anything with any food on it to tempt me.. Wishing you the best, just remember to say I can do it over and over again. It does work.

enniecat,
Welcome! I think you'll find your blood sugar levels will stay pretty regular. I used to have episodes when my blood sugar dipped (although I'm not diabetic) and my co-workers would notice my hands shake or that I was a little sweaty. I never had that problem while doing MRC. The director of the MRC I go to is an NP with a specialty in diabetes so I know my program has been carefully evaluated by him.

Patzi, btw, Baklava is my favorite too! Made a bunch last Christmas. Have no desire for that sweetness now.

I hope you can make all your goodies and stay away from the urges of licking the spoons :-)

I go to Massage Envy across from the Pleasant Grove Walmart. They have over 40 massage therapists but I just see one of them. I signed up for their membership, they withdraw $59 each month and that's for an hour massage. And they are open on Sundays and late nights so it's really convenient.

Good luck this weekend!

I'm starting to get comments, "Somethings different, did you cut your hair?"..things like that..No-ones said anything about weight loss unless its my closest friends/family who knows what i'm up to. Who cares! I'm gonna do this!

No one said anything to me until about 25 pounds, and then it was just people I hadn't seen in several months who said I looked like I'd lost a little (some thought just 5 or 10 pounds). Even the people who see me weekly don't seem to notice my (now almost 35 pound) loss. Don't sweat it. You might be like me and lose all over instead of in one particular area, which makes weight loss far less noticeable. But, it's still happening!

I am also the family baker and think you are very brave. It would be very difficulty for me to bake and not eat at this point (especially homemade bread). I warned my family and they have been supportive. I should be finished in time to bake for Thanksgiving, but until then store-bought will have to do.

That said, exercise that "no muscle", I know you can do this! Fill the skin with warm soapy water and immediately drop all utinsils in without licking!

After years of not listening to my body I am actually looking foward to carefully listening to my body and learning how it responds to different foods/activities, etc. Thanks for sharing, it is exciting to see what to expect during stabilization and maintenence.
