I went on a cruise in decemeber and didn't gain much ( don't remember exactly, but maybe a pound). I went on Carnival cruises...and they actually have a "spa carnival" healhtier option at every meal.
I would say if you want to lose while on board, do something like Metaquick with shakes and bars.
But you can easily maintain and not do too much damage. I really talked with my center before I left and here was our game plan:
-Breakfast in the dining room so I could be picky about my breakfast...like one egg, no butter...dry toast, etc. I would eat 1/2 slice dry toast for my bread at breakfast.
-Lunch- I found the lunch buffet the best because I could piece my meal with my protein, fruit and veggie. There was usually a sugar free dessert option too so I could have a little treat.
Dinner- in the dining room, I tried to eat the spa carnival meal (didn't one or two nights because it was some of my fave foods)....but I got a salad instead of soup, ate a shrimp cocktail appetizer, spa healthy meal, then if I wanted dessert, I either did a scoop of sugar free ice cream or the fruit and cheese plate.
I didn't do any alcohol...and felt like I got to particpate in the cruise. I mean, part of cruising is the food.
I would say, bring meal bars for excursions where you eat. I forgot about that and had to have the nachos they served us in Mexico. Had no other option.
Also, bring a reusable water bottle. They will refill it at the bar for you all day long....and you can mix your proteins in it. There were no water bottles for sale on board...only water in cups at the bars....so it was easier to mix in my water bottles.
