I totally feel this way about the 'earning'. It's awesome motivation for me!

Yes! This past week. I hit my deficit almost every day (had one night out on my birthday that I didn't count the calories) and I'm up 0.2 pounds. Oh well. I'm pretty sure it will even out in the long run.

I just put in my target of 8 hours sleep. It doesn't matter what times, just the final target number. Boy, has that been eye-opening!

Hello all! I bought a GWF earlier this year, but I haven't been wearing it for the past couple months. Getting back into the swing of things now, so hopefully I'll have positive news to report soon!

I do have a question though.... Has anyone noticed much of a discrepancy when you are riding in a vehicle? I noticed that when I'm driving to/from work or anywhere that I get spikes of activity and I'm assuming that's just from the car bumping along and moving down the road. I know it's showing several calories burned (that I'm sure isn't accurate) while I'm sitting and driving, but I was wondering if it makes much of a difference in the long term? I had gotten into the habit of taking it off when I got into the car, but sometimes I would forget it and have to go back for it and of course that gets annoying... :P

Thanks!

It's my understanding that the accelerometer (step count) doesn't factor into the calorie burns. Any movement/bumps that mimic steps will show up in the step count but shouldn't throw you off. If it were me I'd try to remember to take it off, but that's because I like to look at my steps everyday.

YES! I do notice spikes while driving. I've been on a couple long road trips recently and it has me burning significantly more sitting and driving than when I'm sitting on my butt at home.

well I've been wearing it for a few days now and boy is it eye-opening. I notice that when I'm sitting and writing (I'm a writer in my free time) that I burn the same amount of calories that I do when I'm sleeping. @_@ which is around 1.8 a minute.
I haven't done any exercise but it says I go over my target of thirty minutes of moderate activity. I Know it's from working, which is kinda awesome. It's neat to see the spikes of activity shoot up during my job, but they don't stay very high for very long. so i know I need to get more activity in. My DF and i plan on taking a hike in the mountains this weekend, I can't wait to see what my GWF says.

I increased my moderate activity to start at 4 mets rather than 3 mets. I want my actual exercise to record, not my daily puttering around the house.

I think what's hard to get is my intense activity. At 6 mets, I don't seem to meet it much, and when I do hard cardio at the gym, it's on the ArcTrainer that doesn't record well on the GWF. Oh well.

Cool

Alright- I'm feeling your pain this morning after yesterdays workout. Since I got my GWF, I've been using the treadmill for running. I've had no problems meeting my vigorous activity each day. Yesterday I decided to go to the gym. I did 30 minutes on the bike completing almost 6miles. I also did about 45-50 minutes on the elliptical doing an interval workout. While on the bike it told me I burned almost 200 and so did my GWF, but when I was done on the elliptical the machine told me 350 and my watch told me 220!! Here's where it becomes tricky. I was really working hard on the elliptical! As hard, if not more dripping with sweat than when I RUN! yet I didn't even get into the vigorous zone! I was so frustrated that last night when I went to watch some tv I jumped on my treadmill to get in some extra calorie burn. I didn't want to over do it so I just did a really slow walk (3 mph) since the point of me not running was to do low impact. Afterward I uploaded my data only to become even more frustrated. My slow hour walk (didn't even break a sweat) I was supposedly burning more calories per minute than when I was killing myself!

So has anyone else had this problem? From what I've read I knew people had problems with the bike underestimating but since mine ended up being equal I was happy. I mean I think we'd all agree we'd rather underestimate than over! But I was so not prepared for the elliptical to be even under what the machine was saying!

I read something about the elliptical being one of those activities that is off a bit... (was it 20-30 percent or something?) I think I read it on the message board on Bodybugg or the weekly questions they answer. I know you have a GWF but you might want to check over there. Someone said they wear theirs on the legs and gets closer results on the elliptial.

I know lots of people have issues with it on the bike but for some reason mine doesn't seem that off... last night I was hitting 9-10 calories a min on the bike trainer. I probably burned slightly more as I was doing a lactate threshold test, but I doubt much more. I burn about 14-16 running.

I was wondering if I should wear my GWF on my leg if I'm riding a real bike. Everyone seems to have some issues on the gym bike. Has anyone had issues with the calorie count when on a real bike?

I had tried the outside of my left calf for a few exercises, ArcTrainer and Bike, and it got a bit higher, but not even close to my HRM.

Someone suggested back of the thigh, and I tried it for the ArcTrainer, but forgot to wear my HRM. I got 200 cals for 25 min and that was about on spot with my HRM.

Only problem is that it is too tight on my thigh. I need to buy a new band, either a large (if that even fits) or modify one just for the thigh.

It was right smack in the middle of my hamstring.

I got a bunch of reusable elastic bandage wrap thingie's (not sure what they're called) from the dollar store and use those when I need to throw the main arm band in the wash.

They're super comfortable, washable, reusable, cheap as heck, and when people see it they don't ask you any questions. In fact, they are more likely to help you (for e.g. in my case when I need a spotter when I'm lifting weights or whatever) because they think you're recuperating from some kind of injury.

Try it out, I promise you won't be dissapointed, and even if it doesn't work, you'll only be out a dollar + tax. :P

Cheers.

Well! Y'all have inspired me to 1) join my first computer group and 2) to buy a GWF! I just ordered it and I can't wait. Does anyone know how how well it tracks rowing (as on a rowing machine)? Best

Welcome to the site Southernnycer!
I just wanted to stop by for a update. I've been wearing the GWF for a week now and lost 5.5 pounds! I'm urber happy. I love how seeing the numbers keeps me on track. I don't want to go off my diet because I want to see that calorie deficit every day.
I burn 1.8 calories sleeping I didn't think it would be that much.
I start my light work out this week. I can't wait to see what it looks like on the charts.

Well I just finished my first official week with the GWF. I tracked EVERYTHING. I was aiming for a 500 calorie deficit but I averaged a bit over 1000. I am down 2.4 lbs. That is great but I don't quite trust it because it's within the same 5 lbs i've been battling for the last several months. When I get below 152 I will be much more trusting. If I were to use Alright's method on taking the lowest # of the week as the official number (very cool).......I am down 2.6 lbs.

Here are my stats if anyone is interested!

7/20 B:2500 C:1353 D: 1147
7/21 B:2771 C:1573 D: 1198
7/22 B:2750 C:1957 D:793
7/23 B:2558 C:1580 D:978
7/24 B:3047 C:1630 D:1417
7/25 B:3689 C:2391 D:1298
