Haven't been here in a few days. Congratulations on wearing those pants suite! That is so fantastic! I bet it makes you feel really good and motivated too. There was a recipe around on the board for pizza dough that was low in points (and looked really simple!). I think I'm going to give it a shot one of these nights, maybe tomorrow. That might be a good option for your pizza and beer night!
Everyone seems to be doing really well in the WI thread, even those that have gained haven't gained much and all are resolving to try and help us get rid of that ugly fish. Hehe.
Alcohol isn't really a problem (well, not a problem, but you know, an obstacle) for me because I'm not really the typical university student. Since I'm an international student, I would much rather spend the money I would drop on a night out on a train ticket to spend the day in a nearby town and see things I haven't before. That, and with the money conversion from the Canadian dollar to the British pound, I can't help but think that $10.50 for most of the cocktails at my favourite cocktail bar is absolutely outrageous, so I don't go out very often!
I'm just reading and smiling, I love this Flex area, it's great.
Suite congrats on the pants, I have had the same serendipity, found a bunch of pants stored in the basement, and it turned out they were smaller ones that got hidden away and now I can wear. My mom gave me some jeans that she had and they're pretty tight now, but I'm so happy that I won't have to buy more pants!! YAY! I always thought when I got to goal I'd buy a bunch of clothes, but fortunately  I have quite a few pieces of clothing that didn't get alot of wear....
Anyhow, got to go tread, we had some snow so I didn't get my outside walk in
We're having beautiful weather so I'm about to head outside with my bike... I want to see how close to downtown I can make it before turning around (it's not a long trek but it's very, very hilly -- ultimate goal is to be able to bike to work without being all sweaty when I get there).
I had two funny moments today...
I was getting dressed before my WI and definitely considered the advantages and disadvantages of certain pairs of socks -- i.e., this one will add a few ounces to my weight, this one has a hole and therefore weighs less... Can you tell I was nervous? Anybody else do this?
I also felt like a huge nerd standing in the grocery store with my points slider trying to figure out which frozen pizza was going to do me the least damage for tonight. I've never broken out the points slider in public because I already have a good idea of what I like and what the values of things are, but I haven't bought a frozen pizza since starting WW. I think I made a good choice in the end, but I felt a little silly!
steph - thanks for the advice -- I looked for that beer but couldn't find it, so I went with Corona Light. Two points per bottle isn't too bad, considering it won't take me much to feel it since I never drink I'll keep an eye out for it next time, though, as 3 pts for 2 bottles is even better!
freedom - are you Canadian in England or British in canada? I couldn't tell from your post. Either way it sounds awesome I lived in Ontario for a good eight years, I really liked it there. I can totally understand the desire to travel while you're overseas; when I went to Italy to study, all the girls I was with were in to going to wine bars and meeting crazy Italian guys, whereas I was counting my pennies for that trip to Rome.... SO worth it!
I haven't broken out my slider in public either, suite, but I also feel a little bit silly getting a bunch of WW brand foods at the grocery store. I don't know why, but it's a little embarrassing, perhaps for the reasons we've all discussed in other threads. I know I will never see the cashier again, but still!
I'm a Canadian (from Calgary) in England I like it a lot here, but I do miss the familiarity of home and my mom and my cats and my horses! I am hoping to go to Rome at the end of May. It looks like such a beautiful city, but I also have trips planned to Paris and someplace in Spain to visit a friend's relative, so I don't know if I'll be able to afford it! I'm glad you thought it was worth it... that said, though, I don't think I've ever been on a trip that I didn't think was worth the expense! The pound is worth $2 Canadian, so while all the prices are about the same and a meal at a restaurant has the same price next to it on the menu here as it would at home, when you convert it, you're not paying $15 for your meal, it's $30! I have seen more of England than I have of Canada now. It's far easier to get places here because of the train system. I will have to explore Canada when I get home! I'd love to see Ontario as both of my parents are from there.
I jumped on the scale this morning and it showed a whole pound gained from my last weigh in (on Monday) so I am not anticipating a loss in two days.
suite & free break out that slider, it's like seeing if you have a coupon for something. The more you do it the more you'll get used to it. I was the same way. I think about how much (or little actually) I pay attention to anybody else in the grocery.
Sad fact of our society, if someone doesn't know you, you're pretty much invisible to them, how many times has someone cut you off in Walmart
I'm looking at my FPs adding up and up and not feeling too good about WI myself, oh well, it was a holiday...
DH and I have done alot of camping and bass fishing in Ontario, we rented a spot in a seasonal campground. Love Canada, have to get DH a passport, we gave up the campsite, but still want to go up and camp in provincial parks, we went to Algonquin last year, that was awesome!
Okay, this might sound a little weird, but I've been noticing lately that my stomach is making noises more often. Not 'feed me!' sounds of hunger but it almost feels like there's little air bubbles in there. I am nearly at the two month mark of being on WW (about a week to go until that) so why would these noises just be starting to increase now? I am very confused!
No, not really. My schedule is a bit different now that I'm back at school, so I'm eating earlier in the morning, but surely that wouldn't change much?
freedom - Yeah, buying WW stuff at the grocery store is weird too sometimes. Especially if I'm like... buying WW food and a chocolate cake mix (it's for my friend, I swear!) or a pound of butter (I keep it so I can feel what a pound weighs!). Man, your trips sound fantastic!! I'm so excited to go overseas again. It's just so incredible. I've only ever been to Italy and Canada (I guess that counts as "overseas"?), but we're planning on going to Brazil in August. I reallllly want to go to Spain... and France... and Germany... Austria... Italy again... everywhere! And Ottawa is definitely worth seeing, the Parliament buildings are gorgeous! I'm not even Canadian and it made me feel a bit patriotic As for your stomach noises, have they subsided?
Keli - oh, Algonquin was my favorite. I did a couple of canoe portages up there and it's just gorgeous. I seriously miss camping. DH has never been, and we don't have outdoors-y friends here. It's gotta be one of my favorite things to do....
How's everyone doing? This week has been pretty good for me... I've used less FPs this week than last week (mostly because there was no chocolate-filled holiday this week), so that's good. I'm pretty sure I at least used all FPs last week, and I might have gone over. This week I think I'm sitting at 22-25 (I forget), which is just about right for me and what I generally aim for. Exercise has been on target too, I've taken 2 days off but done some activity the other days. So hurray, I've got my fingers crossed for a good WI tomorrow morning!
Now that I'm starting to face the reality of having clothes (pants particularly) that are too big for me, I'm wondering what I should do. Should I keep them around "just in case" (and pretty much assume I'm going to fail)? Should I get rid of them ASAP? Should I keep a couple of larger things around? Keeping the stuff feels like admitting I'm not in this for the long-haul and expect to gain weight again, but giving it all away seems risky. Anybody have thoughts? What do you guys do when you are too small for your clothes?
Suite---I would get rid of the bigger clothes ASAP, that way if you start to slip and gain a few pounds and your pants get tighter you have no choice but to kick it up a notch or go buy new clothes. I lost 79 pounds previously on WW and gained it all back plus some because I had the fall back clothes and the elastic waste stuff. Now I am buying only clothes that fit and have no strecth and no option of gaining a pound.
alrighty flexers here's a simple question - i like to have a good amount of points left for dinner so i'll usually eat small lunches and breakfast to have a good chunk of points for a bigger dinner. what are some opinions on if this is OK to do or if this will just slow down my metabolism and thus my weight loss? i don't know too much about metabolism, health except for all those things that say you should eat 6 small meals a day BLAH BLAH. i don't want to have snail pace metabolism by eating small meals, sometimes little snacks then larger dinners sometimes later at night cause i work semi late. just some opinions would be great. i'm always staying on points btw, not going over with big dinners. just in the points range. tia
Ifindhope - Dinner is usually my biggest meal. Not necessarily the way to go, but I am still losing weight even when I am eating the most at night. I make it a rule not to eat anything within two and a half or three hours of going to bed.
Suite - Congratulations on fitting into those pants. I'd probably get rid of the others, or if you absolutely must, hide what you'll be keeping somewhere deep in the basement behind a bunch of boxes so that it's easier for you to keep yourself in check for a week than it is to dig them out! Personally, the only reason I would keep any of them myself is that if I did put weight back on, I couldn't afford to buy a new wardrobe!! As for my trips, I really hope it all works out. I would love to see Ottawa. I have an Aunt that lives near Victoria on Vancouver Island and the parliament buildings there are gorgeous too. Brazil would be fantastic - I'm sure you'll have a great time! A friend of mine went there to build churches one year when I was in high school and she absolutely loved it.
I've decided this week to use my activity points and then the flex points if I need to. Is that a good idea? I know we have a thread about it already, but I just worry that by using my activity points, I may eat all of them, and then ALL my flex points too, which wouldn't be good because it certainly won't help. I'll give it a go for this week because last week I found that if I ate my minimum number of points (23) and exercised enough to get 4 APs but didn't use them, I was still quite hungry and when I woke up the next morning I was absolutely ravenous. So having those extra points might help me with that.
The stomach rumbling is still happening! I was in the library yesterday, in the "quiet study room" and while I'm sure it's one of those things that I would notice and no one else would really think twice about, it was a little embarrassing!
MY SCALE IS BROKEN!! I have had it for only a month! I emailed the manufacturer's service department this morning. It's an electronic scale and it just keeps flashing "8888" when I stand on it. It's never done this before. It may be a good thing, not having it for a while, but I hardly appreciate being out £10. It really isn't that much (about $20), and if I have to, I'll go buy another one, but every penny counts when you're a poor student! It has a full warranty and says to return it to the store but I kept all that information and managed to throw out my receipt!

Ifindhope, I just googled increasing metabolism and found some interesting articles. There was one on a website called the diet channel, called weight loss program, part 3, that has alot of info on ways you can boost your metabolism.
Small meals more often actually increases your metabolism, it says your metabolism slows the longer the time span between meals.
I don't see anything wrong with a bigger meal at night, they say that you burn more during the day, but if your schedule/lifestyle is such that you do more later, then you would burn more at that time. If it's working for you, keep doing it. If not, then you need to make a change. Too simple, right
I would recommend learning a bit about what your metabolism is and how you can increase it, it will only benefit you.
I am new to this website and will soon be new to WW (I plan to attend and sign-up at my first meeting next week when I am back from a visit with a friend).
I have tried a mulititude of times to lose weight with an average lose of about 30 lbs., only to regain it and a few more...I have about 100 pounds to lose. My last two endevours were with personal trainers at Lifetime--they were really good and gave me good nutrition coaching as well, but I just could not get my eating under control...I think I have the exercise-routine down, but am going to give the "food-thing" another try with WW meetings. I can tell that this will be a wonderful place to get support, as well!
