I do have a question... I drink all the water that I am suppose to, but my mouth (tongue) feels dry. Does this mean I am in ketosis? I did buy the strips and it says that I am, but I was just wondering if this is one of the signs.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
I know how you feel about licking your fingers when your cooking, frosted my mom's birthday cake last week...it has never before been so difficult... lol

Good morning!!

Went to the store this morning, it's always nice to be all caught up on veggies and have a stocked fridge. I even bought steaks for hubby to grill for us tonight. Yum!! It's a nasty dreary day today, so much so that just about everything we had planned got canceled so I'm planning on laying low around the house and watching movies with the kids. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

I have a Health O Meter one. It is supposed to measure your bodyfat but it's not very accurate. I've been +/-3% the entire time I've had it and I've lost 25 lbs in that time so I know I'm not the same % of body fat I was. I just like it because I can store my weights so that I have some kind of record to go by. Plus it's the clear glass kind and that's what I wanted in my bathroom. It wasn't terribly expensive and the weight is accurate (based off my Drs scales).

I use it both ways and haven't had a problem. I think the concern is when you cook with it you're not consuming it all and therefore shorting yourself on oil.

If I were you I would stop weighing yourself every day. The weight does come off, but there are tons of things that can cause you to retain water and make your numbers look higher on the scale. Wait until you're WI because you don't want to cause more stress than necessary. Also, if you have a headache you can try putting 1/4tsp salt in your hand and licking it off, followed by a big glass of water. It should be gone in 20 minutes. Hope this helps, and Welcome!!

Wow. My first Kale chips and they are so good. Never in my life thought I would acknowledge something like Kale even existed. I am a very picky eater. After I bought a bunch at one market, I discovered the Kroger here has it bagged and already in bite sized pieces. That will make it really easy.

If you haven't tried them, you must give them a chance.

I also was never told this and use the oil just in my cooking only. Hasn't hurt my weight loss at all. I think this is just another area of IP that varies with coaches. Honestly there are many days I forget about the oil, but I also take high quality fish oil capsules every day, so I'm not too worried about it.

I am feeling so down today. I am sick with a really bad cold. My nose is running and throat hurts also running a fever. I am trying to stay OP but I think ill have to get some theraflu for the cold. I found sugar free kind but I am not sure if this will kick me out of ketosis. I am going to have some vegetable soup now and try to stick to the plan. Any suggestions are welcome

I would worry more about getting better than being thrown out of ketosis. It takes a lot to get kicked out. Take care of yourself, you need to be well most importantly. Take the Therflu, its fine. Stick to plan as close as you can, drink some hot tea for your throat, veggie soup sounds good or good old chicken broth low sodium works well also. Hope you feel better soon

There is a tea that has really helped me with sore throats. It is called Throat Coat by Traditional Medicinals. I used to have really bad acid reflux and it helped with the throat issues you get from that as well cold related sore throats. I used to add some honey and sometimes lemon juice. I don't know what a good sub for honey would be. But, the tea alone might help. Feel better. I get it at my health food store. Might be at the regular grocery store as well.

Tried the Hazelnut stevia in my cappuncino today. Gives it a nice rounded sort of nutty flavor. It's not like the Hazelnut creamer that I was used to but it is nice, more nutty than sweet. I get my liquid flavored stevia at the health food store. It's not by the other stevia but by the coffee. I have also ordered sampler sizes from Amazon online. I know there has been a lot of discussion about sweeteners and where to find them. Also, my understanding is that stevia can be bitter in coffee. I do not know. With the liquid stevia, you never use a full dropper, just the droplets from the dropper. I add 3-5 of those droplets to drinks and pudding.

I've been getting bloodshot eyes and blurry vision, which I read can be caused by low blood sugar. Yesterday I ate a restricted bar for lunch which seemed to make a difference. So, I'm going to add the restricted back into my daily plan and see if the eye problems go away.

From what I understand, olive oil isn't to be used at high temperatures like other oils (canola etc) so it's not good for ALL types of cooking. I believe it burns at a lower temperature than other types of oil. But to put it in a frying pan with some veggies to cook them, or drizzle over when you put them in the oven is just fine. You wouldn't use a pot of olive oil for deep frying though (in the non IP world of course). In terms of the program, I have never heard of not using it for cooking though. I think most of us here use it in our cooking, so I would go ahead

How did you make yours? When I tried it, I ended up with burnt edges and a very powdery texture.

I used Finn's recipe. I don't have a spray bottle to spray the oil all over them, so I put the oil in a veggie bag with the spices (sea salt, ground pepper and original Mrs. Dash), added the kale (it must be dried if washed), shook it up, and sort of massaged the kale to make sure it was all covered with oil and seasonings. Then as Finn suggested, I put parchment paper on a cookie sheet. My cookie sheet is an old heavy metal one that was my grandmother's (may make a difference as I've had problems with burning using my other newer dark brown Teflon one). I set the timer at 10 minutes, checked them. At that time, I turned off the heat (electric oven) and left them in another 4 or 5 minutes. They were very crispy, but I didn't notice any burnt edges, but maybe during those last 5 minutes, I should have skipped that and taken them out at the 10 minutes. They were not powdery. I will probably try the timing different next time to compare.

Hope that helps.
