But the more I thought about it the more I realized how individualized we become after 30 or 40. History of childhood diseases (especially measles = shingles, etc., etc.); trauma, both mental and physical; heredity kicking in; accidents that seemed minor at the time; degenerative and autoimmune problems; or temporal things that just happen and then have consequences. (I got hit by a bike tonight but thank goodness the puppy was OK except if he doesn't leave the nineteen year old cat alone I may cream him.)

I guess what I'm saying is that I've come to realize that as we age we become more individual then we ever (thought we) were when we were young, no matter how special and how unique we might have though ourselves or, in fact, were.

Still. I think it's a good idea, if it's helpful to us over 50 or more and, let's be honest, those who will get here eventually -- if they're interested.
Ditto your thoughts Linden I'll admit to being over 50 and you know what? I kinda like it! Sort of like that movie Fried Green Tomatoes. Towanda! I love this scene.

I turned 60 this year - I love it. I know that I am retiring in 2 years because I want to have a few years traveling and just being alive. I don't take prescription medicine (I use to be on insulin and a multitude of other drugs) and I feel good. I do not have the delusion that my body will ever be able to eat what it wants. It just isn't going to happen that way. The best part of being 60 is that when I forget something I can always say, "I am 60 and just don't remember things the way I use to". I love it. Here is to another great day on the "plan".

Are all the restarters over 50? LOL I can pretend since I'm getting close at 45.

If you didn't read my other message, I'm starting over on Monday. I did really well the first time through but phased out for some time for mental adjustment to my new shape, regained some weight during some medical issues and I'm not going to let it get out of control. I've put my goal lower than I had initially and I'm ready to buckle down again. It probably won't hurt that I'm having oral surgery next Thursday and won't feel like any solid food!

I'm looking forward to chatting with you.

Thanks for digging up that clip. Laughed all over again. Great reminder that aging has its privileges! Kathy Bates is the best and obvious someone who feels very comfortable with her body and has not let her shape limit her success. How are you doing????

It is wonderful to have you back. I love your avatar picture with your daughter. I watched your showcase clip. You were terrific. As one who has avoided dancing at all costs, I am so impressed with anyone who can get up on a dance floor. You go girl! It sounds like you have a full plate (perhaps I should have used another word, huh?), but I think IP really helps to keep life manageable. You were so successful before that I know you will do great, again. Glad you are on board!

The question is do I do it following IP or do it monitoring calories and exercising? IP has been so hard for me to get back on but I know that it works and that I can do it if I have the will power. In the long term it takes less time. Time to focus....what a horrible time of year to try to do this. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas!! I just know I can't go into the holidays without a plan or I'll come out in January being and felling miserable.
I can definitely relate. My BMI is 24.9 yet I am up 1-2 clothing sizes and feel like someone pumped me up with air. I got to goal on Dec 3, 2010 at 118 and have been struggling ever since and now weigh 136. I am a compulsive overeater and have tried everything since including WW, OA, alternatives, etc and decided 3 days ago to try IP again, but I am using their products. For some reason I feel more satisfied with the "real" stuff. It is difficult when I am so close to goal because as I start losing weight, I physically feel better and then start to slack off. This time I am committing like I did the first time when I never cheated and got to goal and Phased through the way I should. My problem was dealing with maintenance. Since I am a on or off type of individual, I couldn't get it together. Let me get to goal, again, and I will address the maintenance issues. Welcome

I'm 58, but I purchased the scale (Omron) that Novak had recommended and it tells me everything about me except my horoscope. It includes BMI, Fat %, Muscle %, Resting Metabolism, Visceral Fat and best of all Age! On my scale this am it said that I was 53!!! Either way real or scale, I'm in the 50 group!

Glad to hear that your puppy is okay. Hope you are, too! You can't afford anymore physical challenges.

Welcome everyone!

Hi, I was wondering what the model # of your Omron scale is and did you buy it in a store or online. I am from Canada, it sounds like a good scale and I would like to try and find it. I have a WW scale that does a few of those things, but would like to have the other features yours has.

This is my first post. I'm brand new to 3FC and IP. I haven't even met with my coach yet. My appointment is tentatively scheduled for next week! I came across this thread and so glad I did. It's a great reminder that everyone has struggles and it truly is a lifestyle change, and also a reminder as to just how important the 4 Phases really are! Thanks for sharing!

I'm OK, thanks. But I'm rethinking wearing a black coat and black knee socks at night when idiots without bike light are afield.

I, too, bought an Omron on Novak's recommendation and have yet to figure out how it works. I can't get any reading but weight. And I've always sort of prided myself on being pretty mechanical.

It's been one of those days today.......nobody better cross me, if they know what's good for them.....had to leave the office early and my cell phone hasn't quit ringing. I know it's not PMS cause I'm way past that.

Sitting here drinking a large glass of water and wishing it was straight vodka. But then if it was vodka, tomorrow would be a worse day. Maybe a nap is in order.

I use Omron "Full Body Sensor Body Composition Monitor and Scale" Model HBF-514 - from recommendation on this board. It monitors, weight, BMI, Body Fat, Muscle, Resting Metabolism, Body Age, and Visceral Fat. I bought it on amazon.com - I think about $65.00. I use the weight(scale) every morning, and do the other measurements once a week. Keeps me on my toes!

Wii fit just told me that they my real age is 47. I'm 39. Stupid video game... It also told me that I need to lose weight, right after telling me I have a healthy BMI...

Thanks for the info I am going to try amazon and see if I can get it here in Canada. My WW scale is very accurate but would like to have all the other measurements calculated as well

I have a tanita scale. I really like it. I forget what it cost as I've had it for over a decade, and it's never done me wrong. It also does the body fat percentage stuff, but get one with memory if you get one so that you don't have to constantly remind it of female/height/etc.

All black is definitely a wardrobe malfunction if you are doing nighttime walking. The only way I would wear that outfit is if you accesssorize with a flashing arm band or head light. Adds a whole new meaning to flashing, huh?

My only suggestion for the scale is that after you turn on the scale, perhaps you are not waiting (as opposed to weighing) for the flashing numbers to zero out before you press the #1 button or wherever you stored your stats. Were you able to put in your stats in terms of height, sex, etc? Tell me more if that doesn't solve the problem.

It's really unfortunate that I am so computer illiterate. I tried to copy the post and paste it here, but alas, I failed miserably. The scale is an Omron 514. I purchased mine through Amazon for $65. I love it for its accuracy and memory. You can program up to 4 people's profiles. It comes with a weight tracker form that I fill in everytime I weigh myself. Unfortunately, due to my OCD, is every day although I try to guess my weight before I see the number and I am usually right on. My only wish is that it had LED lights. It is digital, but the LCD numbers don't allow for the sneak weigh in during the night unless I want to turn on the bathroom light. How sick is that????

If you want to check out the post, look in Life After Phase 1, page 3, post #34 and look at Novak's post. Ironically, Novak is posting to Linden who is asking her about her fancy schmancy scale. Hope that helps.
