The muscles will retain water and glycogen to fuel themselves, and this causes a weight gain. A woman trying really hard doing some serious lifting can maybe put on 7 lbs of muscle in about 6 months (if they are lucky), so don't be fooled by assuming it is muscle weight. It is probably water weight.
But don't be afraid of weights. Muscle is good for you and even gaining a lb of muscle is awesome for your body and metabolism. Muscle takes up less space than fat so you will be smaller in the end, with your muscles burning extra calories for you throughout the day.

I love this explanation, I didn't know this and it really is helpful to know a bit more of the truth. Thank you.

How are any of you getting around 800 calories per day following the program? I've tracked mine on Livestrong's "My Plate" and I haven't had more than 750 calories in a day and the two days I did have over 700 I had 4 or 5 packages. (e.g. coaching).

I don't know about these sites that track for you, I created my own spreadsheet. I went to the IP site and found the nutritional info for the items I prefer (according to sgorny they have removed the info, two weeks ago it was under the products display, you click on the product and it gives you the info), and I took the info from the packages of the other foods, the grand total per day is 825-845.

Though if you think about it, that would be pretty impressive, too. :D

'tis true. I had my basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories that your body needs to sustain life. breath in, breath out, pump blood) taken a couple of months ago. Just to keep me alive my body burns 2,000 calories a day. Lean, mean, burning machine (minus the lean part right now, working on that). So in the end I will be able to eat a bit more and maintain my weight.

Hey that is cool, I didn't know you could have something like that done. I will need to look into having something like that done.

my highlight of the night was going to 6 redboxes to find my daughter the new barbie dvd...then going to the grocery store to pick up maybe 10 things, go to the register and could not find my card. had to tell the cashier that i had to leave to go find it. got to sports utility vehicle, rummaged through e erything and then found it in my purse. NICE.
i gained a lb over this last week and for the first time, i kind of don't care. i think i've finally come to realize with this plan, that you will lose it eventually, if you just stick with it. i've never made a goal and reached it. i will reach this one.
oh, i think my chicken is burning...

I love this post, it is so real life. In another post I read you are in Leander, you are an hour east of me off of 1431. Have you found the Real Salt Sea Salt at any of the HEBs (I read on their site it can be found there) in your area? I am going to Austin tomorrow and was planning at stopping at all that I pass to find it.

Does anyone else feel likethey are not getting anything from their IP coach? I go in and the weigh and measure me, but don't really get any answers to the questions I ask...I have gotten so much more information from this group than I get from my coach..Thank You eveyone ♥

I know you have had a few replies to this, and from what I have read here, a lot of others feel that way. Most on here feel they get so much more from this site. With so many different people here, with similar life situations, it is easier to get answers. Of course you could bounce some of the answers off your coach to help open up the lines of communication. I immediately wanted to talk to some of the other clients (which I haven't had the opportunity) to compare notes, then I found this site. This is where the camaraderie is.

sorry I haven't been around much lately. something crazy has happened in my life...
long story short, three pregnancy tests later I finally believe it...I'm pregnant!
So as a warning to everyone who doesn't want to get pregnant... IP helps people get pregnant when they couldn't even after trying for 6 years and went on every fertility drug out there.... so watch out!

Hello Everyone! :)
Sitting her on the boat. I temporarily have taken over my father's laptop and m-ifi card. I guess I am addicted to you all! Not sure if I will find anothe quiet moment with computer access to sit and read posts. Although, I may try to just send an update here and there during the week.
My flight went very well! It was smooth, no bumpiness, not overly crowded or hot. I loved fit in the seat with room to spare! Such a strange thing. I don't think I realize how much space I took in the world. It is so weird to be in similar situations and "feel" small. :)
San Francisco is great! As expected I stepped out of the airport, shivered, promptly unpacked a sweater and put it on. LOL... oh well, cozy has its benefits too. We went to dinner at this great little diner near the Embarcadero, a place that has been around for 25 years (as of yesterday) and, where I remember eating 22 years ago ... the Fog City Diner. LOVED IT! I just went simple this time. I had a grilled chicken salad with cucumber, tomatoes, celery, romaine, lemon, WF bleu cheese. It worked. I was happy to see my Dad and Bonnie (step-mom) enjoying their meals. It really was nice to be back in a place I had such nice memories in. As we left the diner and drove to the Marina, we got to watch the fireworks from the Giants game, I guess they won. :)
Sister got stranded in Richmond so, she will be arriving a bit later than planned. That means the morning at the farmers market alone. Oh well. I love those places. She will arrive by lunch and I am so looking forward to it!
SO, the BIG... BIG.. news! I am back in my fat burning place. :flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2::flow2:
I haven't felt this in 2 months! SERIOUSLY.. Just a dull slow thing was happening. I have been busting my but the past week to make shift. 2 nights ago I started to dream of food again. TODAY, I was sitting on the plane chatting and I got hit with this wave of nauseous, tin mouth taste, extreme thirst and headache. I feel.. tingly and jazzed again. WILD! I remember how this felt. I am so excited. I didn't want to eat when we went out. I was so worried, something, anything might take it away and I have worked so hard to get here! DARN IT ALL, I didn't bring a scale. GRR I can't wait to get home to weigh! Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it will force me to be extra diligent on the trip so I may see the results!
Worse part of today... in my rush to leave the house, my lovely pill pack, was left in the kitchen. BF is mailing it but I will be with out it for 3 days. May have to make a health food store stop to get something.
I hope I will be excused, there is so much activity on the board today! Lots of threads and posts. I just am too tired to read it all and not sure when I will catch up. If there was something specificaly addressed to me and I have missed it, please PM me. I will check for PMs if nothing else. THANKS!
Wishing everyone a great weekend! May we all see Lots of NSVS and Great losses next week
To gain that much weight back in 1 month tells me your body is storing glucose and glycogen again. I could be wrong but it is a sound theory. Each gram of glycogen is stored with 4 grams of water. Expand that idea to pounds and you can see how quickly the weight is added. Unfortunately, that would mean you aren't in ketosis and something, food, carb, or your body is causing and increase.
It is just about 4 weeks that we adapt to our ketosis and the gluconeogenesis is in full swing to stabilize blood sugar. That proces makes energy for our body using enzymes and aminos. Eating pure protein will still allow your body to increase its own glucose levels. Some people have a very hard time getting into ketosis and staying there. Most often it is due to a metabolic X issue. If you aren't sure if you have this you could speak with a doctor. This not so un common occurance is discussed on the Atkins diet and in another book, I have it at home and will email you next week, by an endocrinologist in Chandler, AZ who specializes in metabolic disorders. For these people, they have to do a very strict moderate to high protein diet with 30% or more of their daily food including FAT. They can't enter ketosis and stay in it without having the added fat. Their body is "too good at protecting itself from losing fat so, it has to be teased to give it up." They also have to avoid carbs. They have the lowest threshold for tolerating them and need to do without for longer than some others.
Try adding more fat to your diet for awhile. Maybe go for 1oz whole milk instead of skim, it will give fat and trim carbs. Also, stay away from any veggies that have sweet or starchy elements. AVOID green soy beans. Too much starch and sugar in those. Don't eat too many of the cooke green veggies that turn to carbs... ie spinach.
Increase your omega oils. Try going up to 1 or 2 tbsp a day. I know it is a large amount but it will increase your calories in a healthy way. And not effect ketosis if you get into it.
Try not to eat more than 20g of protein at one time. Anything in excess of 20 g at a time is convert into sugar by the body for many people. That is because anything unusable is stored and the body can not quickly break down and USE more that 20g of protein at a time. If you are eating too much protein, you will feel good, but it is because you are having "false" sugar created.
I hope that is a start. I will think of anything else I can and send you a message if I can. If not, I will pm you next sunday night with the book info and anything else I remember.
 Carla
