Yikes. I eat jello everyday for lunch, and use the cran/pom/blue drink some nights as snack. But I have been doing this all along. I wonder if there are differences in the products as well for Canada and USA?
Yes, I know there are some slight differences. For instance our yogurt is only 5 carbs and the yogurt in Canada was much higher, unless that has also been reformulated lately.
Hi there, i have a question about the bars....has anyone tried the Atkins Advantage bars to replace the IP bars? My husband loves the bars and has one every night as a snack.....but the IP is so expensive!! We are doing good with the weight loss...but I don't know how long i can afford the 150 + weekly

I have compared a lot of the bars and Atkins bars have a lot of sugar and carbs. I use the pure protein bars. From what I have available locally they are the closest to IP unless you order from Lindora or one of the others listed.
Has anyone got any opinions on the new Supreme Protein/ carb conscious bars? The 1.7 oz bar has 15 grams of protein from whey isolates. Fat is 8 grams, net carbs is 4 grams.

I agree. Atkins was higher on the sugar/carb scale than IP. I use the Pure Protein chocolate bars and they are yummy! I've finished all my IP stuff and am now using EAS shakes, pure protein bars and pro pudding. I found the Redmond seasalt in my local health food store. I also use pure egg whites and low sodium chicken broth as extra meals if I'm feeling especially hungry. IP was becoming expensive and I was struggling to stay on it initially. My coach basically told me if I did not stay on track not to come back because I was wasting both of our time. SOOOO that being the case, I found this site and the alternative products. So far so good. I started IP on July 29 (again) and so far I am down 37 pounds. Hope I get to goal and run into my coach
rather than buying the IP food is there an alternative way that you can get food from the grocery store? i'm going to start the IP diet and was wondering
In an effort to diffuse the "to eat or not to eat IP food" debate that seems to be going on, I thought I would start a new thread for people to ask questions, post food comparisons and chat about alternative foods & supplements they have found.
I think the forums are becoming very divided and there is (for some reason) a sense of hostility among those who eat purely IP foods and those who don't. So I propose this: Lets keep the IP Chat forums for encouragement, weight posting, general IP questions etc and lets leave the food talk out of it.
After all we're all here for a common goal - to get healthy using the "ideal protein" methodology.
Hi Jordanna: I am from Leamington, Ontario and I have been on the IP program for 5 weeks now and have lost 25 pounds and 19 inches. Needless to say, I am very excited about this program and the results I have achieved.
My question is that of cheese. It says no dairy, but cannot cheese be classified as a protein? I love cheese and am missing it terribly. In particular, I like the block cheddar cheese or the Kraft cheese slices. If the answer is no, it's no and I will learn to live without it until the day comes around that I can eat it again.
Look forward to hearing back from you. Still trying to get used to this site :-)
I mentioned this product to someone in the daily chat thread, and since I had dug it out of the back of the fridge already, I thought I would try it for breakfast this morning.
Here's the basic product info:
Name: Chocolite Protein, "chocolate supreme flavour," made by Healthsmart Foods Inc, Evansville IN
Contents: 418 g flavoured whey protein isolate
Price: 17.99
Nutritional Info: 150 cal, 24 g protein, 3g fat, 0 g cholesterol, 80 mg sodium, 3g Net Carbs (total carbs 8g - 5g fibre, 0g sugars), good mix of vitamins mostly at 25% RDA
Serving size: 2 scoops (38 g)
Review Summary: YUMMMM! Nice smooth, rich texture, no protein powder taste, and no artificial sweetener aftertaste.
Details: Although mixed with water, this product had the smooth texture and consistency of really good chocolate milk. Not as thick as a milkshake, but much richer mouth feel than other products I've tried that taste good but feel like chocolate flavoured water, which is not very appealing in my mind (or mouth). Thanks to the high quality protein used (whey protein isolate) this product is smoooooth, without any of the protein powder grittiness that comes with soy protein products. [I know I'm going on and on about texture, but when you're practically living on liquids like we are, this becomes especially important for those on the long-haul path.]
This product is sweetened with the natural alternative sweetener FOS (fructo-oligosacharide) made from chicory root, which also provides the dietary fibre content.
At $18.00, this is a pretty economical and tasty alternative. With serving size at 38g for 2 scoops, it works out to 11 servings at $1.64/serving.

Hi Jackie --- I live in Leamington, Ontario and have been on the IP program for 5 weeks and have lost 25 pounds which I am ecstatic about. I find the IP products very expensive and was wondering if you have tried other compatible products. I see some posts about Lindora, but do they ship to Canada? Look forward to hearing back from you.
I just found that Pure Protein has a gelatin snack It looks very close to our raspberry gelatin except it has 3 grams more protein. I'm going to go take a look at a box at GNC. I was just thinking these being ready to eat might be nice to take on those occasions when you need to be out and don't want the restricted bars. <<I'm editing this to say that my GNC doesn't have these in yet. I may order some online just to try them and because I'm impatient.>>
Also, I thought I remembered someone saying there was a good place to order Lindora bars, but that Lindora themselves had some shipping issues. Can someone help my memory and direct me to a good place to order the Caramel Nut bars?

does the gelatin have collagen in it? I wanted something to replace the IP gelatin. I am in the states and do not have a problem with Lindora shipments.
thanks

So, I made my "alternative protein jello" using unsweetened cherry flavoured KoolAid, xylitol and unflavoured whey protein powder. A real success, I think. Next time I'll use a different sweetener, as I'm worried the xylitol may take me out of ketosis. There is a very slight protein powder and sweetener aftertaste, but it is yummy all the same.
Here's how I made it for 2 protein servings:
1 envelope unsweetened KoolAid
1 envelope plain gelatin (to set 2 cups liquid)
2 cups water--1 hot, 1 cold
xylitol or other sweetener to taste
2 scoops unflavoured protein powder
Basically, make just like regular Jello. Use the hot water to melt the gelatin, sweetener and flavour crystals. Shake up the protein powder in the cold water and then add to the gelatin mix. Stir well. Pour into serving dishes and chill until set (three hours or more). For a less intensive flavour, use only half the KoolAid or add extra water and more gelatin.
