Interesting article. Watch the way he calculates calories to lose though! Doesn't work that way for me. Everyone is different. This is based on leangains style too. I prefer Fast 5. However, good info here.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for posting this...you're right, everyone is different. I do so enjoy reading as many sources as I can for info, then filtering and adapting the measures that work well for me.

Have a great IF Thursday everyone!

wvuchick Good idea to use the weight you want to be I think. Using a "standard" formula doesn't account for activity level, age etc., but it's a starting point anyway.

Return2Fast5 Welcome! I like to read this stuff also, and try to post anything I think might be of interest.

PrincessSophia 04-26-2012 03:33 PM

hi! Thank you all for your help. I completed my IF today. So, happy!

kelleyb 04-26-2012 04:42 PM

Way to go Sophia! Glad you are happy and stuck to your plan.

Wuv- I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

The past few days, I have done (has come naturally) more of a lean gains approach- an eating window of about 8-10 hours, the rest nothing. It seems to feel more natural to me and I might even have greater success with this. It has mainly involved having my last meal by 5-6pm and even though I don't go to sleep until about 11 pm, not having anything else. Also, meals and one or no snacks which makes a total of eating about 3-4 times a day. This might be something for me...

Not sure which day I can do a longer fast b/c I am working night Fri and Sat, so we'll see. I'll see if I can squeeze in something longer before next week. If not, I won't worry.

I do my weigh-in tomorrow and feel like I have lost a little and have some good muscles going right now. My shape seems to be changing for the better.

Have a great rest of the week everyone!

Hi everyone

I'm planning to start IF on Monday and hopefully I'll do twice a week. Has anyone seen good results? Weight loss? Or measurements? I would like to get an idea of what to expect.

Good luck to all :)

Hey everyone!

I haven't lost anymore weight. It actually seems that I've gained some, but I'm not going to say for sure until I weigh in again on Sunday. Other then some potato and bacon soup, I've eaten rather well the past few days. I have grown to love brown rice! It's cheap, filling, and goes well with just about anything.

Here's hoping the scale surprises us all with a few extra pounds missing!

CurryMama 04-26-2012 11:09 PM

I find this pretty interesting. Where do you find information about getting started on fasting? A plan? How did you get introduced to it?

Hello everyone, I'm new here.

I really like this thread and look forward to meeting you all... hoping to be able to encourage as well as receive encouragement on the journey.

I follow a loose Eat-Stop-Eat regimen (breakfast to breakfast), usually at least one day per week and, when I can, two. But I firmly put my life before my diet, so the diet has to fit in with my life rather than the other way round. And that means that I don't always fast 2 days a week.

I'm also a vegan, and generally follow the principles of John McDougall - low fat, starch rich. Again, life before diet, I don't make a big deal out of this when eating out or being at other people's houses, which I do often, so it's usually something I stick to closely during the week (when I have routine) and not so much on the weekends. I mean, I'm always veggie, but if some cheese or oil makes it into my food I won't throw a tantrum ;-)

These two together are working quite well for me.

I look forward to meeting you all :)

lostangel There are a lot of resources. The two I use most are Fast 5 (google Fast 5 and download the free ebook) and leangains.com. Many here do Eat Stop Eat. There is a website and you can buy a book, but others here can probably tell you the program. I don't do ESE so don't know much about it. I'm a Fast-5er :) Welcome and good luck!

penguin Hang in there! Monthly cycles and other physiological stuff make us retain water etc. but it all works out, and comes off in the end!

Happy Friday everyone.

I tried to post on here this morning and couldn't get on the site and I was so excited to tell all of you that I FINALLY made it to Onederland this morning. :carrot: I was so happy, I cried a little. I went from 200.4 to 199.2 yesterday due to my fast. Usually I don't gain back what I lose during a fast, so I hope that doesn't happen this time either.

Have a great IF day y'all!

charcharb 04-27-2012 03:07 PM

Hey all! I am new here also. Just started with leangains last Sunday. Definitely getting easier to make it through the morning fast. I see a lot of people tend to do leandgains or fast 5 as well as ESE. Since I have just started I think I will just stick with this for now and then when fasting gets easier, maybe adding that to my week or something.

I tend to do active recovery on thursdays and sundays instead of a full 100% rest day. Depends on what my body is telling me. Last Saturday and Sunday I took both as 100% Rest Days because I was sick. Just try to listen to my body.

Curious how long it took most of you to see results once you started. I have heard anywhere from 2 weeks to a full 4 weeks. I know that everyone is probably different as our bodies are different. Was calorie cycling prior to this... and it worked OK I guess.

Take in about 1400 cals a day currently... but am going to mess with this the longer I do it. About 26-27% BF at the moment, but would like to be about 20%. BUT over the last year I have dropped just calorie counting and exercising about 68 lbs. Started at 185 and am now 117 (on a good day). I am 4'10.5 so I could still stand to lose about 10 lbs or so.

I eat rather clean--- vegan-- but still try to get at LEAST 116/117g of protein a day if I can. Eat mostly raw and clean. If I eventually increase my calories I will probably increase how much protein I am taking in as well. Just pretty expensive to do at the moment but really wanted to start with IFing.

In the week I have been doing this I have found that my face has started to clear up (always had an issue with acne). Not sure if it is IFing or something else... but I am going to attribute it to IFing for now.

Anyway would love any advice any of you have for IFing, etc.

Welcome charcharb!

wvuchick Way to go! I'm so happy for you :):)

tonimaroni2 04-27-2012 03:17 PM

Hey all -

I've been lurking around for a week or so and started Fast 5 on Tuesday. So far so good! I love not having to plan anything and most of the work is done while I'm sleeping. I've been a constant dieter, but I often jump ship for something more my style and I think this time I've found it. I tried ESE in the past and found it to be rather unforgiving but Fast-5 is good for me.

There a few faithful IF posters on here that have truly inspired me to start this and I wanted to thank you and say that I look forward to being part of the IF community.

KTucke7 04-27-2012 03:43 PM

Welcome tonimaroni! After 14 months on Fast 5, I think I can honestly say I'm no longer a "constant dieter!" And thank God for that :)

pattygirl63 04-27-2012 05:57 PM

KTuck7 - I appreciated the article. I've been reading some things stating that women are supposed to eat during a longer window too, but I don't think an 8 to 10 hr eating window would work for me. I've been eating during longer hrs lately and I end up gaining weight instead of losing. It seems that only 5 to 7 hrs works for me but not more. I'm not sure about so many calories at one meal either. May work but I'm not sure it would work for me. However, I do see how more protein could help. Thanks for sharing.

Haven't been around much but I do read most days. :welcome3: to all the Newbies. This group is really growing.

I have some good days and some not so good, but learning what works for me. I hope I've got it figured out an now just putting it to work. I'm leaning more toward the Paleo/Primal woe and joined Fitday today to keep up with how much I'm eating and to keep calories under control. I hope to be able to have more good days now.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
