hi can you re edit your first post and leave a definition of what fast-5 or Eat Stop Eat mean for people like me who don't know what it means :p it would be helpful.. i do know about fasting though, although i dont know what you mean by the number 5 thats after it.

Fast 5 is basically a 5 hour eating window every day - google it, the book is availabe for free download.

Eat - stop - eat is typically a 24 hour fast 2 or 3 days a week (i.e. 6pm to 6pm) and a "normal" eating window the remaining days.

VioletRain- You can also do IF (intermittent fasting) any way you want be it low carb, calorie counting, paleo, etc. I count calories but I do notice there is less when there are less carbs in my meals so I try to focus on protein with carbs from veggies, etc. One member here does it in "reverse", eats in the morning/afternoon then nothing until the next. That is why I like this program, I can tweak it to my lifestyle.

:p replied to the cat post .. my body hates carbs i blow up when i eat a slice of bread i'm wondering if i'm intolerant since my stomach bloats so easily when i eat bread or pasta.. the thing with me is that i have a hard time believing that you can lose weight eating 2000 calories a day , so for a hole year now i've tried to keep my calories low like no more then 1000 .. yesterday i tried eating 860 calories , because according to a calculator i would lose 20 lbs in 2 months if i stuck with 860 calories... through out the day i was fine just eating that but i stayed up really late and ate toast and an egg white then one serving of porridge .. so lol -.- i dont know if i am capable of keeping my calories at 860 for 2 months.. its just when i stay awake late at night like 2am where i would want something to eat.. i might have to try and sleep earlier then maybe i wouldn't have that extra thing at night...

sounds like your doing great though xD

Umm 860 is VERY low. It is nearly impossible to get the nutrients you need in 860 day in and day out.

IF isnt about caloric restriction below what other diet plans have, it is a different attitude to how the calories are distributed throughout the course of a day or a week. For example if your limit is 1400 calories (probably about where you should aim) then it is maybe 2 x 700 calorie meals instead of trying to do the currently fashionable. 3 x 400 calorie meals and 2 x 100 calorie snacks. Or with ESE you MIGHT do 800 on your fast days, but more like 1850 on your non fast days for a weekly average of 1400*7.

2000 is probably high for weight loss, but 1000 is crazy low. Also, 5'9 and 120 is very very thin. I'm not going to say that it is not a healthy weight for you because I know that every body is different, however you cant expect to lose 2 lbs a week when you are in the lower end of weight loss. IF isnt about losing weight faster per se, it is also about finding a way of eating that you can live with.

The philosophy of IF centers around you get all the weight loss benefits of calorie restriction without as much of the metabolic reduction of extended caloric restriction

Ennay - I can totally relate to what you said about having stickpoints, or setpoints, whatever it was. lol I never really thought about it, but I definitely just dropped below one that I've bounced around for years and things started moving more quickly then. It'll be interesting to know what other points my body likes as I continue. I didn't pay enough attention when I was younger to remember them.

Hello - I'm just starting to try the Leangains method for IF. Would I fit in here, or is it just for those doing longer fasting periods?
