Wow!!! Thanks Julia and EZ! Those links were incredible! That last one Julia, brought tears to my eyes. It was very inspirational and will make me do my exercise this morning with much renewed spirit!!
Guess I've been inadvertantly participating in the non-chat thing as RL has been busy lately.
Tampa's preparing for a pirate invasion. Ships/boats are massing in the Bay. The mayor will probably turn over the keys to the city at some point today. Then the pirates will celebrate taking over the city by parading through the streets drunkenly and shooting off pistols - and throwing beads to the crowds from the floats. Gorgeous weather for it - in the 70s.
My daughter went with friends & one girl's parents. The dad's been going to the parade since he was a kid so they know where to go, etc. There are 500,000 expected and the weather is so nice I wouldn't be surprised if they get more. We don't usually go. The parade used to be on a workday and the parade wound through the downtown streets. I'd watch it from the office windows then. (All the banks downtown closed as most of the pirates were carrying replica pistols.) Now I'm watching on tv. The pirate ship just docked and hundreds of pirates are heading to city hall to take over the city. Quite a few folks escort the pirate ship. These folks just anchor in the Bay and party on their boats for the day.
We dropped DD off at her friends house at 9 this morning. The actual parade starts at 2. There are actually 3 parades (only one today). This, the original parade, a kids parade (with no alcohol allowed on the public streets) and a Night Parade that's even wilder! (or so they tell me)
Wow, that sounds like so much fun. We don't have anything like that around here. Just the typical parades to go with the holidays and such... but nothing to compare to you Pirate Rading.
Not a darned exciting thing happening in Delta today....not even an ambulance or cop car. I could do with a pirate or two about now. Jack Sparrow would be nice!
