I may have enough ore in my rocks to actually be worth some money.

Have a MAJOR plumbing issue at home tonight...

thank goodness I have a neighbor to Y off of so I have water...and a brother that can dig a ditch and plumb...and a buddy of my nephews to help out...since I cannot help with this hernia surgery...and 2 plumber buddies with advice...

could easily be an all day fixer tomorrow....

Just so you know in case you see some crankiness in my posts...

Nonono, that's the wrong idea! The way to go is to have the nerd working for you, not the other way around.
And I am nice to this nerd. Very nice, in fact...
(Which makes him want to work for me - and that works for me! :D)

EZMONEY 11-21-2009 08:45 AM

Anyone want to come and help me fix the main water line from the street to my house, so I can shower?

bargoo 11-21-2009 09:10 AM

My stepfather was a plumbing contractor. When my brother was a teenager he was put to work helping out in the plumbing business. The first day he came home after work and said " I have made up my mind I definitely do not want to become a plumber !" . He was a young teenager at the time.He was good to his word and became a highschool basketball coach and math teacher.

Operator265 11-21-2009 01:07 PM

I am one of the biggest DIYers around, buuuuuuuut.....

I don't deal with plumbing or electrical. If I can get poo on my hands or shocked into next week, I just call in the pros.

EZMONEY 11-21-2009 06:54 PM

Well the trench is dug and ready to drop the pipe in...tomorrow...

Now I have to go pay the neighborhood kid for the digging and convince him that HE OWES me for all the soda, chips, junk food, frozen burritos he has raided out of my fridge over the last 10 years!

dutchgirl 11-22-2009 06:33 AM

Just a quick hi, having modem issues, the darned thing could poop out on me any moment.
Had a rare day of gorgeous weather yesterday, so I grabbed my backpack and camera and went to the beach. I walked for 4 hours (yes, very sore legs!). Now I have to do all the housework I skipped yesterday.Have a great day, all!

Ruthxxx 11-22-2009 07:14 AM

Good for you, Dutchgirl. Seize the moment! I'm getting more and more into that philosophy.

Sunshine and relatively mild temperatures predicted for today so I may get a wee bit of outside work done after Church before my afternoon "girls'" tea-party. We have decided we never get together to just talk but are always doing stuff so today's the day we try to change that. Of course, there will be knitting and other needlework involved because that's just the way we are.

On Tuesday morning I'm flying off to visit a 3FC friend who lives near Philly and join in the T-Day festivities. It should be fun. I am 1/4 American - my maternal grandfather swam the St Lawrence to be with my grandmother. He never did get a Canadian citizenship.

Happy remains of the weekend to all!

EZMONEY 11-22-2009 08:19 AM

Gary, I hate it when I don't have a newspaper on Sunday!!!! How can I drink coffee without it??
Fortunately, I have the best newspaper carrier in the world and it never happens.

dutchgirl 11-22-2009 11:44 PM

Good morning from Amsterdam, where gale-force winds and horizontal rain are happening. And I have to go to work in that. On the scooter. :scooter:

Ruthxxx 11-23-2009 06:03 AM

Why oh why do I leave things until the last minute? Today is jam packed as I leave here at 4 for Ottawa and the early morning flight to PHL. Be good while I'm gone although I will be checking in.

EZMONEY 11-23-2009 08:10 AM

Have a safe trip to work Dutch and on your trip Ruth.

The new water line is in and zero leaks over night at the main...will turn it on from the main to the house, and see if all of our fittings are secure. as soon as it gets light out.

[Frantically searching for the memo]

I received this in an email this morning---too cute not to share with everyone!! Have a great day!

ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND

It is important for men to remember that as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are over sensitive, and there's nothing worse than an over sensitive woman.

My name is Ron. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife, Carol Anne. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Carol Anne to get a full time job, along with her part time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed. Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age.

I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her.. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the Club, so eating out is not reasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door.

She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean).. I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man. I tell her to fix herself a nice big cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Carol Anne. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older. However, guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Ron died suddenly on 31 January of a perforated rectum.

The Police report says he was found with a Calloway extra long 50 inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby.

His wife Carol Anne was arrested and charged with murder. The all woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her not guilty, accepting her defence that Ron, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.
