Coffee (or tea) by the fire with the morning paper and good friends nearby......what a lovely day this will be!

Jazzbird 12-07-2006 10:28 AM

I'll have coffee over here. Can I have a peek at your paper, Allison?

alinnell 12-07-2006 11:46 AM

Sure, I'm just doing the crossword and Sudoku now. Does anyone have any scones? A scone would be nice this morning.

Healthy, come on back to the kitchen. You've been really good at avoiding alcohol, but maybe a wee nip is in order. What's been going on since Thanksgiving? Have you been having a lot of salt in your diet? If not, maybe a diet heavy in refined carbs or low in fiber? If you're keeping your overall caloriies in control, one of these problems seems likely. Other opinions?

Does salt really make a big difference? Since I've been keeping track, I've kept my calories in check but my sodium intake is way too high according to Balance Log (same type of deal as fitday). My friends joke they're going to get me a salt lick because I put salt on everything.
thoughts?

UGH ... I got called in to do colonoscope preps this morning. Driving was bouncy bumpy slippery! I'll have almost anything warm to drink!

Salt ... it makes you retain water. A little water weighs a lot! So ... if you can regulate your salt, you may be able to avoid some false high weights that are really only water. Did that make sense?

nomorefatpants 12-07-2006 03:15 PM

yes that's helpful. i knew i ate a lot of salt but since I now enter everything i eat into that program, it made me realize i ingest an inordinate amount. I'm going to try to cut down. Hopefully it'll make a differnce.
thank you!

srmb60 12-07-2006 03:37 PM

You are more than welcome! Did I tell ya you'd like it here? ;)

Jazzbird 12-08-2006 01:39 AM

Hi nomorefatpants! Salt really does make you weigh more. I always show a gain after day when I eat something that has a lot of salt, like ham or cheese. It's a bummer, 'cause I love salty foods. I can give up sweets, but salt is my downfall.

srmb60 12-08-2006 06:15 AM

Morning! coffee please.
We should photocopy the crossword.

2frustrated 12-08-2006 06:28 AM

I've got my photocopied crossword, unfortunately I have to google most of the answers!

srmb60 12-08-2006 06:29 AM

Maybe if we work on one copy together ???

alinnell 12-08-2006 09:03 AM

My paper hasn't arrived. The paperboy must have changed. It used to be so nice to get the paper by 5:00 AM! Now I don't get it until almost 7:00 and I have to rush through it before work. Often I do my crossword and Sudodu at work (undercover so my employees don't see!!).
Salt. Do ya suppose that's what has caused my gain????? I've been really good and on plan and I'm going up rather than down. I'm getting a bit miffed.
Perhaps a nice cup of Earl Gray is just what I need this morning.

sweet_talker 12-08-2006 03:41 PM

Your body needs a minimum amount of sodium, but if you eat anything you're most likely to reach the minimum. The only thing with tiny amounts of sodium are fruit. It's an excellent snack if you're trying to tone down on the salt. And dairy products also have a pretty good deal of sodium, as do breakfast cereals, so you should watch those. As well as the more obvious ones such as cheese, crackers, chips, pickles, processed meats. A little salt goes a long way. If you cut down, then when you do add it to something it's soooo much more potent.

I LOVE sudoku puzzles. I buy them by the book and can do the ones that are labelled "Torturous" in half the recommended time...:D This is a strange achievement, but I'm pretty pleased. I'm not trying to brag about my sudoku skills or something , it was just a rather nice realization. I can't do crosswords for the life of me, though

Need to go get somethin' to eat from the cafeteria, and finish my last paper, but I will be back for some tea later gals, hope you're all having good days :)

srmb60 12-08-2006 04:17 PM

Give me a crossword any time! The only sudokus I can do are on-line ones that come up red if you're wrong :)

Green tea please! And I'll sit by the window for a change it's so nice and sunny.

alinnell 12-08-2006 05:11 PM

My DD had to teach me how to do a Sudoku--now I'm hooked and I generally can do any puzzle in less than 10 minutes. I love crossword puzzles, but can only complete the really easy ones. The big one on Sunday (LA Times) I have only completed once!!! Generally I fill in what I can and set it aside. My FIL then stops over and finishes it for me. He's a huge crosswords fan. DD has now found another type of puzzle that just leaves me scratching my head:?: Its another number puzzle, but nothing like a Sudoku. It involves addition....she loves these kinds of puzzles. I guess that's why she likes calculus so much!!!
