hopping in!

today i did a fast, so i didn't eat until after the gym at around five. besides my two cups o' coffee with half and half idk how much? 40 cals? and one packet of truvia which actually has three carbs each so...

gym was ten minutes running, ten minutes elliptical, ten minutes stair stepper, ten minutes walking w/ three, one minute sprints, and then ten minutes bike. (i had a terrible weekend and wanted to somewhat expel the extra energy i took in.)

food:
chicken leg quarter w/skin: 264
chicken, white meat w/o skin, maybe half a breast (i was taking some from a full chicken and didnt measure): 74
chicken broth: 60
small amount of celery and carrots in soup: ~30

my second time eating was one bacon strip: 30
two eggs made in butter: 180
and some greek yogurt with cinnamon...so good: 60?

and i just had some homemade chili, and i didn't eat the beans, and it didn't seem like i ate much..im going to say 100 calories there. i was so hungry though i needed something but it needed to be low carb.

so, i am around 800 calories counting wise. given that i don't measure anything i could probably be close to 1000. i am hoping i stayed under my alotted 20 grams of carbs.

Y'all have been doing so well!

I've fallen off my low-carb wagon the past couple of days. I actually feel like I've been really off-plan with snacks, but I add them all up and... they fit? Who knows. I'm trying to enjoy life a little more.

Went to the gym for an hour: 20 min running, 20 min situps/planks/birddogs, 20min putzing around free weights (ineffective). also did 30 minutes of pretty intense walking.

B: trail mix cookie - a big one -- 240 cal
L: tuna salad on grilled veggies (with olive oil) and greens, 230 cal
D: grilled chicken, broccoli, spaghetti squash, 215 cal
late-night meal: 1/2 bagel with pb&j, 250 cal

SO MANY RANDOM SNACKS: bowl of cereal, cookie, half candy bar, 3 tortilla chips, 4 sugarfree candies. 470 calories, ugh.

Total: 1405 calories. meh.
all my sustenance comes from carb-loading at odd intervals...

must get back on track and be super low-carb tomorrow. I guess what I end up doing is something like cycling and not the worst thing in the world -- but my impulse is still to feel guilty about eating over 1200 calories.

lackadaisy Is the trail mix cookie you mention the Sun Maid brand one? My bf got me a 360 calorie bag of mini Sun Maid trail mix cookies in that package and it was gone within 24 hours. As for the random snacks/going over 1200, try not to beat yourself up. Sometimes it's letting yourself have those random seemingly off-plan snacks that keeps you from losing your mind.

Krampus, no, they're from Protein Bakery -- the "enormous cookie" kind (I ate 2/3s of it). Protein Bakery cookies are pretty amazing, actually.

When not at my TOM, I'm fairly immune to the chocolate and peanut butter flavors -- to the point where I tried a nibble of a choco-choco-chip cookie today, thought "meh," and threw it away -- but the trail mix and cranberry almond flavors -- !! I'm a sucker for things with grain, nut, and dried fruit.

I think I actually approached 1500 what with terrible estimating -- but, yeah, I forgive myself. I've been losing so much the last couple of days, and I worked out a lot (for me) today, so there shouldn't be any damage. Today was almost a trial to see how much I would want to eat if I went completely crazy, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I am nearly always happy with 250-300 calories at any one sitting.

Now, to just cut down on that late night compulsive carbing...

maenad I've had trouble figuring out the calories of a bowl of pho. I eat veg pho but I've still had sources say it's upwards of 600 calories I can't believe it since it's really just broth, bean sprouts and noodles, but perhaps there is something added to the broth that I'm not aware of? (I also just learned how many calories are in most sushi rolls, so I wouldn't be surprised if pho has hidden calories/fat that I wasn't aware of).

My eating the last two days has been fine calorie-wise but NOT clean at all. It's embarrassing. Will post after dinner hoping I can get back on track the rest of the day....

krampus, lunch didn't look unreasonable to me, especially with your exercise regiment. Mmmm kimchi!!!

Ok my food today ended up way weird and not clean at all. I had little appetite today for some reason, just wanted to nibble:
B: Slim Fast with skim milk
L: 1 pomegranate, homemade iced coffee with 2% milk and 1 tsp of sugar, about 4 oz of my boyfriend's Kraft Macaroni and Cheese (!?), 5 small pieces of leftover shrimp from dinner (!? did I mention I'm a grazer.... !?)
D: 1 cup of french-cut beans, steamed with 1 tsp butter and salt and pepper, 1 glass of red wine. (WTH?)
S: 2 tsp of Nutella, 10 Pringles.

Exercise: 45 minutes light yoga
Total calories: 1,130

I am so weirded out right now by what I ate. It's like it's my TOM, even though I finished last week. I usually eat so clean, I have no idea what happened

Indiblue: There is alot of calories in Pho, but I honestly have no idea why. I don't drink the broth here (made with unfiltered water) and don't eat the meat either. I generally only add lime, hot peppers, lettuce and bean sprouts. My work provided soup is pretty minuscule, like not even a cup of rice noodles, so it isn't more than a few hundred calories.

That's good you have a lo-calorie version of pho! Thanks for also confirming the rumors about how many calories it had. I used to eat it like it was nothing- whole bowls of the 'large' size, assuming I was doing myself a favor. Now I definitely eat only half of the small size and take the rest home.

Another reason it's difficult to lose weight and calorie count abroad- there is not enough accurate stats out there on "ethnic" food. (I came back from my trip last weekend and tried to record idiappam, payasam, papadam... needless to say it was a little difficult!)

Today was Wednesday, which means Subway and Baskin Robbins. Allotted for it in my calories and succeeded.

Breakfast - 180
-Yogurt, oatmeal, some raisins

Snack - 83
-Beef jerky

Lunch - 275
-Salad: 2 heads of spinach (25?), sesame oil (50), 40g seasoned chicken (65), 1 small mandarin orange (35), Cheddar cheese (70), some raisins (30)

Snacks/munchies - 100
-2 mini rice cakes, 100?

Dinner - 800?
-Subway 6 inch turkey sandwich on wheat with egg, extra veggies, and mustard. Listed as 268 + 41 for the egg, but I don't trust such exact numbers so I rounded up to 350
-Nibble: Saltines with sea urchin cream at market, 3-4 slivers...?
-Dessert: Baskin Robbins small double ice cream, 380

Exercise
-50 min quick walking
-40 min Tae Bo Cardio
-50 pushups, 100 crunches, planks

Total calories: 1450-1500 - just in case I forgot something/underestimated, I'm not terribly exact with the math

I hope I see a positive change on the scale for Friday morning. Planning a run tomorrow and made an epic salad for lunch. I'm never hungry after running so I'm going to eat a little more at work than I did today.

Can you guys take a look at today? I think it was pretty good, but seeing as I've plateau'd for the past week despite the fact that I've cut calories, I'd love feedback.

B: Banana, Slim-Fast with skim milk (sorry, I know SF isn't the best food, but it's sometime all I can eat in the morning)
L: 1/3 pomegranate, 2 c spinach salad with 1/2 c strawberries and about 1 or 1.5 oz brie, homemade vinaigrette dressing with light oil
S: 2 tsp Nutella (lol don't judge), 2 c air popped popcorn
D: 1 or 1.5 c elbow macaroni with homemade tomato sauce (fresh tomatoes, garlic, rosemary, salt, Hunt's tomato paste, water)

Liquid: 7 glasses of water, 2 diet cokes (eek!!! That's way more than I usually have)

Total: 1300

I've been focusing on my thesis (and actually making progress, THANK GOODNESS as it's due in under two weeks), so my eating is all over the place. TOday:

- late last night bowl of cereal + Zone bar for breakfastl: 330 cal
- huge veggie stirfry, steamed green beans, 1 small serving spoon rice/beans, piece of fish for lunch: ~400 cal
- one slice of pizza, diet coke for dinner: 300 cal
- 1 kiwi, a bunch of minislices of melon, and a handful of doritos for a snack: 220 cal

1200 cal and it's not even 8 pm. oh dear. sleep deprivation doesn't make me hungry, but it makes me so incapable of self-control... it took an effort of will not to grab that second slice of pizza. no, that's not right: it took just having consumed a ton of doritos.
