hey all, starting Phase I today

I've never cooked rice or oatmeal... anyone have suggestions? For the beans too?

So in Phase I we can have veggie burgers?

Thanks fo all the veggie advice all. I was confused because it seemed as though we couldn't eat processed foods - which is what I think of the "fake/imitation" meats! Good to know we can use it.

On other boards, I've also heard an arguement for/against veggie cheese because of the processed reason (wheat gluten or something?) and that people have used regular Fat Free shredded cheeses. Anyone help with this? I wanted to try the pizza and my own version of spaghetti (squash) and meatballs (veggie) and eggplant parm (basically eggplant, tomato and cheese) for lunch tomorrow...

Happy Tuesday!

I don't think you can have cheese. It isn't on the food list anyway.Veggie cheese might be ok but not 100% sure.

ambboogie- I use success brown rice boil in a bag. I love it no measuring water or rice and its our acceptable 2 cups prepared for the day in each bag. More time to exercise and read the forum

Mellybelly- Thanks, I could not remember for the life of me who told me about those crumbles..I love them!

Fitbyforty- I didnt eat it all the time,(oatmeal) I still don't. It's nice and filling though, so when Im really hungary in the morning thats usually what I have.

Jenne1017- I dont know about the veggie cheese either. I would think on these items the book is unclear about to check all the ingredients and go from there, if there is only soy and veggies in it, seems like it would be ok. I tell you what, that recipe sounds awesome though.

First of all, a big welcome to all the new Smashers out here! It's so nice to see the new folks. Sounds like we've got great success stories too! Congratulations on your new lifestyle decision!

Me, I'm doing, well, I'm not sure. I haven't lost any weight the past week. I haven't gained any either. I guess I'm a bit frustrated...I have been following the diet - no cheats. Maybe I haven't been eating enough meals, but yet, I feel full. And I have been working out. So I can honestly say I'm proud of what I've done. I'm going to wait this one out and continue on the path. It may be I'm having an off week. Who knows. It's usually at this time that I give up on whatever diet I'm on and try another one, but I really like this, so I'm going to stick with this for a while. It's a good fit for my lifestyle!

On a lighter note, the new food I tried last night was chick peas. I sauteed them up with my broccoli, mushrooms and tomatos, with a bit of olive oil spray and they were really good! I found a recipe for Roasted Chick Peas (in the South Beach Diet section, I think it was) that I'm going to try too. Tonight, I'm going to try either squash or sweet potatos. I have both - I just need to find a recipe for either one that fits into Phase 2. I'm really working on using as little added oil as possible when I cook. Funny how much we cover up the natrual taste of food with all that extra crap we add.

So, if anyone has any QUICK, EASY ways to prepare either sweet potatos or squash, feel free to share!

Thanks

sour cream in phase 1? would it count as a dairy ? the fat free kind......
can anyone help me on this?

Hi guys!! I am back on Day 1 again. I have been slipping up at dinner time. it's weird because the first time I did Day 1, I was able to be perfect for 3 days straight. And now I am unable to get 1 perfect day in. <sigh> but I am going to hang in there and try to do the entire detox phase without any screw ups. even the excercise.

since everybody is asking questions here's mine: is it ok if the oatmeal I am eating is the flavored kind? are we only supposed to eat the oats that taste like dirt? bleh!!

AuntieCiCi-hang in there!! I'm sure you'll be seeing a loss soon. Hooray for chickpeas!! I love them and only eat them uncooked.

Aren't the flavored oats loaded with sugar?
I use plain oatmeal add blueberries and unsweetened applesauce and it doesn't taste too bad.

aww crap...I was afraid of that. Guess I'll just have to brave the plain oats although they are not that bad mixed with yogurt.

Default new and old

Hello everyone!

Welcome to all the new smashers! Just something that might help.. there are new people starting everyday it seems. So if you have some questions we probably had the same questions too when we started. A good idea might be to read through our old weekly threads and the other threads too and hopefully we will have talked about that. As for me, I pretty much only ate what was listed. It made it simpler for me. I didn't try to substitute anything because I wanted the "pure" experience. However, that's just me. Others have been successful tweaking things a bit.

Just as an update, I am on Phase 3, 1/2 way through my first week. I feel like I am eating a lot. But also I am exericising 5 or 6 days a week and I have moved up to 45 minutes as recommended in the book. I am drinking the water too and I think that definitely helps. So far I've lost 20 pounds since I started Phase 1. I am eager to see where I am on "day 100" as compared to the Celebrity Fit Clubbers.

Good luck to everyone new and old.
Suzanne, if you are reading, are you still smashing? Also I am eager to post my September loss since I did not have one for August.

Hi everyone! Just got finished reading through loads of treads. I've just finished my 2nd day of phase 1. I'm a finding it really simple to follow, but am having problems with headaches as most of us seem to experience. I guess its because I am not drinking alcohol or sports drinks anymore and obviously cut out sugar cold turkey. I'm already active but fell into the habit of drinking every night this summer... Not helping the workout progress! So I'm just writing to thank everyone for posting thier expereinces. It helps me to get a gauge on what should occur during the phases.
Quick question - Is cream of wheat ok too?
