Default C25K Week 1

Using a stopwatch really works for timing your running. I'm using my regular watch to time my total workout length and the stopwatch for keeping check of the 60 and 90 second walking and running intervals.

idest - C25K is doing great! I should start Week 2 on Monday. I am doing it every other day, so some weeks will be 4 days instead of the 3 called for. How are you doing with it? Yea, I found I was way off keeping the time in my head too. I now have a watch that has the stopwatch function so it helps me keep up with total time as well as the timing for walk/run - much better.

softballmom,

Week two, huh? That's 90 seconds running/120 seconds walking, right? Let me know how that goes...

I'm in the middle of my "official" week one Having a good stopwatch really helped and you can imagine my relief when I discovered my counting was off on the slow side! The heat makes it tough, so I try to get outside very early in the morning. My legs are in shock--they still think exercise is all about lying in bed with a book. When I walk up the five flights of stairs to my apartment I swear I can hear them screaming!

webweevil, yeah the stopwatch somehow makes it easier to get through it. I wear a pedometer set for walk/run, too... because I'm training for the breast cancer walk in October. Sometimes I think I look like a gadget geek out there.

idest: Yes, you are right on the 90 / 120 timing (as she blows out slowly). I'm going to try tomorrow night with it, and will let you know. At least the 60 / 90 has got easier this week the more I did it.

Keep me posted on how you do. When do you start Week 2?

I am so excited to find you guys! May I join you? I just started the C25K Friday and have done my first two sessions. I am so hooked. I love it already. I have never run more than a mile and that was years ago. So, this is a real challenge and I love a challenge. I have signed up to run a 5K in October.

It sounds like you are all doing great. It's wonderful to hear what to expect next and the tips that have been shared. Thanks!

I started my "official" week 2 today. I spent two weeks getting up to this though. I felt full of energy at the end of my last day of 60/90 secs (and now that I 've bought a stopwatch I discover that I've been doing nearer 90/120 the whole time anyway ), but today I was completely lacking in energy and before I'd even run for 30 seconds I was shattered! Hopefully this is just a blip and by wednesday I'll be back to feeling energised.

Pachyderm - Seems we are within a day of each other. I start official Week 2 tonight. I ended up doing the same thing - taking two weeks to get started. Just hang in there on the 'bad' days. Once I get out there, I feel so much better.

Shrinking Mama - Glad to have found you too. It helps that there are a few of us all about the same place in the C25K program. I think that idest is just a few days ahead of you.

Over on the forum Cool Runners (in Exercise) there are a couple of gals that are further along than we are, and I enjoy getting advice and tips from them as well.

softballmom, I start week 2 on Sunday-- I don't do c25k more than three times a week because of my walking days... (and I also added Curves to those days, because I'm insane!). I love that you're a week ahead of me because I can use you for inspiration. Be sure to check back in and tell me how the transition from 60 to 90 seconds!

Shrinking Mama and Pachyderm, welcome to this mini newbie runner's thread! Let us know how it's going-- especially the recovery I know you will have, Pachyderm, from feeling shattered.

Just came in from soaking in our backyard Jacuzzi. After tonight's C25K, I enjoyed it more than normal evenings - LOL.

Actually, now that Day 1 of Wk 2 is over, I can say it wasn't that bad. BUT it was a second by second of body overcoming mind during the 90 second run. There is a definite difference of the 30 seconds. Afterwards though, I enjoyed the muscle aches - the good kind, that let you know that you are stronger than you ever thought you could be. I always feel pumped after I get out there and do it, but tonight was more of an exhilaration that I accomplished it. Hopefully, Wednesday will not be as challenging and I will be able to just let it flow and enjoy it.

softballmom, you're scaring me!

I'm just back from doing 60/90 second intervals and I can definitely feel my muscles talking to me. While it's nice to be aware of even having muscles again, I have to say that most of the talking they're doing isn't fit for polite company. My calves are swearing like sailors, and my left inner thigh is whimpering like a baby. One more day to go and then it's the dreaded week 2...

Idest - Keep it up, it will get easier (she says hopefully!)

Shrinking mama - I'm sorry I just realised that I completely ignored you when I posted yesterday. Congratulations on completing your first two sessions, and well done for signing up for a race already. Everyone says that is a great motivator. Keep it up, it's good that you are already hooked!

I really like this thread since most of us are right about the same place in the C25K program - the beginning!

Idest - Don't mean to scare you. It really wasn't that bad. I think I struggled for a couple of reasons: 1) I did a (60/90) run/walk on Sunday night for the heck of it, so I didn't have a rest day in there. Shame on me. 2) I didn't wait until closer to sunset when it was cooler - I was out there about 6pm. And 3) it's TOM for me - first day, so that is an automatic wear-me-out.

I really did feel good afterwards. I have noticed this morning that my inside thigh muscles have been serenading me. BTW, love the analogy of soldier talk regarding your muscle-speak. I giggled out loud. I guess I've missed my muscles speaking up lately, so it really felt good last night.

How's everybody else doing? Webweevil, Shrinking Mama, Pachyderm, and anyone else that I might have missed?

Thanks for the concern softballmom! I'm sitting here with ice on my knees. I pretty much limped around all day after this third run. I will be so dissappointed if they are not all better by Thursday morning's run.

Hello All,

Thanks for the welcome! Well I just finished the third session for week 1 and I am feeling really good about the first week. I think I am really slow (3.3 mph walking and 3.8 mph jogging) but I'm not letting that take away from the fact that I did it. I'm hoping that 90/120 isn't overwhelming. I can't wait to hear what you all have to say about the 3 minutes in week 3. Yikes! One run at a time will get us there. We can do it!!

Hi all,

Well I've done my second run of week 2, and it felt much better. Monday was probably just a blip. After doing my run I just walked along singing to myself - very embarrassing, but thankfully no-one else was around!

Only problem I had was, the farmer whose field I run across (oh yes, should have said that I run outside in the country) has cut all the long grass and left it there to dry out into hay (strange considering the weather forecast!). Problem is you can no longer see the path, which is quite rough ground anyway, so I did hurt my knee a little this morning as I wobbled across the field. But hey, what are rest days for!

Good luck with your run tonight softballmom, and Shrinking Mama, don't worry about your speed at the moment. All the more advanced runnners seem to say that you should get yourself into running for a set period of time before you worry about speed or distance. My speed at the end of 20 mins of running/walking is pathetic, fast walkers could probably overtake me!

Webweevil, what have you done to yourself! I hope your knees are better by Thursday. You could try some gentle stretching and see if that helps.
