Hey
Thanks Patch.. I walked 3 miles on the treadmil today. That was the longest hour.. I couldn't go out though. I have to just put my mind on a subject and keep thinking about it till the hour was up. Florida lotto is now 85 million. So I dreamed what I could do with it if I won.   Along with my CD player I made it. Usually ,I will try to design a quilt/sewing project in my mind to get through the hour.
Hello to all. Got to get to my book. I am reading The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon.. I have read all of this series although I think I might have missed the one before this one Drums of Autumn.I like her books so much I will probably look for it when I finish this one...Night...Joanne:wave:  |
Hi
I didn't walk today.. I went shopping instead. It was too late when I got back
I am trying to get back to better habits. I seem to slip every day or so. Evening seems to be my let down time. I count points all day and do good but then comes evening. I'll whip it. Keep walking...Bye Joanne |
Can I join too?
Hi There!
I'm an avid walker - but need some inspiration - I walk my dog about a mile a day and would love to have some walking buddies. Marilee |
Hey Marileel.. Welcome... So you walk your dog a mile every day.. How big is your dog. What breed? Does he pull and give you a good workout?
I have been walking for a few years and now can walk 3-4 miles a day. I started with the tradmill and worked my way from .5 to where I am now. I think starting slow was the way to go. In the process I joined Weight Watchers and lost almost 60 lbs. I am tring to lose a few more and boy is it hard. My body is saying no. Glad to have you aboard. Next time tell us something about yourself. Hey Patch.. I did my 3 miles today. It is really warm here now. Next weekend we should get some cool weather. Where are you Lynock? Bye You All...Joanne:wave:  |

Hi Joanne!
My dog is 60 lbs and a dalmation/chow mix - the sweetest little girl ever - but boy does she tug and pull!!! Well - I just rejoined Weight Watcher's after a 6 month hiatus and actually gained only 2 lbs out of a total 30 lbs lost. Back at it. I live in San Diego and work at a psychiatric facility doing counseling and such and also am finishing up my Ph.D. in Health/Clinical Psychology - so I feel crazy with business :dizzy: But I make sure to get my walks in - it just seems like I have no time....I know I need to make the time - but sometimes it's tough! I'm so glad I found this site to make new friends and have the support - Have a great Tuesday all! Marilee |
Marileel- You really did well maintaining your weight loss. I have to admit I do not go to meetings as I should. I am lifetime and so far have maintained under and to my high goal. I do want to lose a few more. I am 68 years old and a retired nurse.(37 yrs.)Most of my working yrs.were in skilled nursing homes. Walking is a important hour of my day. I set a time and try real hard to keep that appointment. I know that is not easy for the working girl. I always felt I had 2 jobs. The one at home was always waiting for me after my 8+ hour shift.
We used to have a little Peke. When he got so old and blind and deaf we put him to sleep. We have not replaced him and probably won't. It is a lot of extra work. Keep up the good work and stay healthy. ...Joanne |
Hey There
Let me tell something ..Not to do.. I bought a pair of Niki's off a sales rack,Only ten dollers..felt real good..at the time..I wore them to walk yesterday to walk my 3 miles and got a blistered heel and I thought I was going to lose my toes.!!!I will wear my New Balance forever. I guess I can wear the other ones just to take out the trash!!!
Where is everybody...???? Joanne |
Hey Joanne and all! I am still here...haven't started walking yet, but I will...I am going skiing for two days in the mountains, looking forward to the get away. I will try and stay in touch...everyone is raving about new blance these days..hubby bought a pair...loves them...I wear Nikes at work at they are wonderful, no tired achy feet like I used to...might have something to do with being 45 pounds lighter too! Bye for now...Liz in Canada
|
Hey There
Liz321 -It sounds like you have done well with your weight. I always say if you buy a New Balance shoe you will not ever wear anything else. My whole family wears them. Nikes used to be my daughter and sons favorite, No more. Have fun skiing...I haven't ever been around snow so I couldn't relate to it. I have seen snow maybe 4 times in my life..Bye Joanne:)

Nike's
Hi Joanne -
Thanks for the NB tip - I'm about to get a new pair of walking shoes to start the year off ;) Do you have a particular model you wear? marilee |
Hey There
Marileel- The last NB I bought is a seven 13...I wore a 319 would you believe over 2 yrs. The sole was wore out . I still wear them to work in the yard. I will buy a new pair soon as I like to have a couple pair at a time. I have osteoarthritis in my feet as well as every where else. Other shoes hurt. I wear dress shoes only for church or special times.
I walked my 3 miles yesterday and did fine. I need that time for me. Keep walking and getting healthy...Joanne:) |
Hi there gals... Joanne Blisters are the worst... why not take the Nike's back - if they're not already trashed? They may have been on sale, but that doesn't mean you should settle for a defective pair. Also a tip I learned from long distance walking, when doing intensive walking or if my feet for whatever reason feel tender... I put vasoline...yes vasoline all over my feet and in between the toes and have only in all the miles I've done gotten 2 blisters (yep - no vasoline!). Might be worth trying...
Aisics are a great brand for walking as well... I've gotten the Kayuno, and love 'em. Also the Adidas "Brevard" is a great brand as well. I'm actually considering a lightweight New Balance "the 100?) for short racewalking stints... they've been highly recco'd by other racewalkers... but they are not good for long distance... since they don't have substantial support. Welcome Marilee This is a great site! Snowball we all started from being overweight "couch potatos". At least I did ;) -- so remember 1 1/2 miles is far better than zero!!! Go get 'em! Did some hill work this morn... 3 miles. |
Walked 3 miles with a friend this morning. Brrrr it was cold (for Los Angeles!).
|
Hi
It is in the high 70's here in Fl. Walked 3 miles this afternoon. Hello everybody.. Liz . I bet you are having a good time this weekend.

Really busy today - phew ! But I walked the dog just 1 mile but I guess that counts!!
Hope everybody's weekend is going great - by the way thanks for the runner suggestions :) |
Hey there Walkers
Walked about 6 miles on Saturday and 2 miles on Sunday. If it doesn't rain this evening... I'll go to track -- otherwise I'll do my Sweatin' wit the Oldies tape (maybe) at home. :dizzy: good to see all you gals. |
Hey There
I walked yesterday but not today. Sat here waiting for a phone call that didn't come.. Tomorrow. I told my hubby he would have to deal with it or let it go on the machine, I wasn't going to mess up my walk.
My goodness Patch you sure do walk a lot of miles..Do you do 6 miles in one stretch?I can do 4 but that is a lot for me. Marleel..Every bit helps.. My sister does it in 5 min.spats. I don't know how productive that is but she is doing it.That's what counts. Hey Lynock. Are you using your treadmill? Bye ...Joanne:wave:  |
Joanne Yep I did it all in one go... but then I've been training for this for the past five years, and have done 5 marathons walking.
I've "cut" back to doing 6-12 miles at the most. I want to do a couple of half marathons and 10K's (6.2 mi) this spring and summer. Just remember Joanne you're doing just great - do not compare to anyone else. It's all about being healthy. |
Hi
Patch- I can tell from your picture that you are a few years younger than I am. I will be 69 in march. I think that I am doing O.K. for my age and health. I have osteoarthritis and feel lucky to do as much as I do. A few years ago I could not walk 1/2 mile . I rejoined WW and lost 57 lbs and now am trying to lose a few more and stay/get as healthy as I can. I should have started earlier. I always was a person who liked to walk.I tried other exercises but they hurt too much.
Hello everybody...Joanne:wave:  |
Hey There
My Goodness,I think all our walkers are just too tired to let us know how they are doing..I walk almost every day. I need to find something to add to make this more interesting. Let us know how you are doing...Joanne:^: :^:
|
Hey Joanne -
Just a quick post to check in... did almost 4 miles yesterday at a track workout. Boy am I beat! Keep up the good walks! |
Well, it was only the incentive of meeting my friend that got me out of bed this morning to walk. Did about 2 miles. Brrrrr. It was cold for LA.
How ya doin' Joanne? |
Hey
I am doing pretty good Patch. Snacking too much for a couple days. Cravings.. Walked 3+ miles yeaterday. I will miss out today as it is raining. Good day for a book. I am a avid reader.
Hey lynock ..How are you.. ? Joanne |
Walked out my stresses on Saturday with a bunch of gals training for the LA Marathon...
Did 9 miles and then collapsed! |
Hey There
I walked yesterday but won't get to today.. Too much running around to do... 9 miles WOW!Patch. I wish I was healthy enough to do that. I started too late.. That should be a lesson to the younger people to take care of themselves at a young age...
Get healthy everyone...Joanne:wave: |
Joanne - you're doing great. There are so many people out there not even walking 1 block let alone a mile or two.
Be proud! Be bold! You 'da WOman! walked 3 miles on Monday. Nothiing Tues or Wed (today) probably 3 miles tomorrow morn. |
Hey There
Happy Valentines Everybody
I walked yesterday shopping. Out and about most of afternoon. Didn't walk today..Rainy and I was not feeling so good. Better now. I am going to visit my daughter for the weekend. I haven't seen her since Christmas.. Getting lonely for her. She has a lot of land for me to walk in. Miles of pasture land. She is a walker too. Hey Patch.. I think I do pretty well too.Sometimes I beat myself up wanting to do better. Bye...Joanne |

What is the absolute way to lose weight fast without video tapes and supplements. T |
Hey There
Tonyanum27- Boy if we only could look as good as the ads say we can... As a retired nurse I am a believer of the old fashion way of losing weight.. Proper diet and exercise.. Weight Watchers has a good plan.
I walked my 3+ miles as I always do and over the weekend added a mile each day. It is a lot different walking in the pastures at my daughters than it is walking on the roads here in the central gulf coast of Florida. Hello to all....Joanne |
Tony,
Delete the word 'fast' from any sentence about weight loss. Any quick fix will be temporary and you bounce back weight will almost certainly exceed the weight you started at. If you want to lose weight safely and increase your chances of keeping it off once you have lost it you have to concentrate on sensible eating and exercise. If you want to join a club ask around here on the alternatives, you're bound to get enough info to make a choice. If you want to go it alone ask away. There are lots of knowledgeable people around here. Some know a lot through experience and others (myself included) have a string of academic alphabetti spaghetti after our names. In short I am sure that someone here (or lots of someones) will help you with any problem you might experience. I hope we can help, Stef |
Hi
Stef- You got that right. I am a person who has tried most of the fads. I have problems with my heart that I know were caused by pills and supplements to lose weight. I had to be in my sixtys before I got in my head there are no easy ways. Now I am trying to undo the damange... For over 30 years nothing worked untill I rejoined WW for the teenth time and made it work. Now I read labels, eat as close to right as I can and exercise every day.
Tony. There are no guick fixes!!The only ones who benefit from the fad diets are the ones selling them. Bye...Joanne |
Hey There
Where is everybody?? Don't tell me you aren't still walking? I try to do my 3+ miles every day.. Sometimes I can't get out because od weather or such...Joanne
|
Hi
I haven't been here in awhile.. Nobody seems to be posting here or maybe they don't walk in the winter... I still walk 3+ miles almost every day.. Anyone else???Joanne
|
I've missed everyone!!
Gosh, it's been awhile. I went to Florida (Largo) to be with Mum and Dad, as he had had an MI. He's doing fine. Mum is too. It was a mild one, and he got a cath, but it showed no blockages, so no tx was needed. Just some new life style changes. Daily walking...you all know the drill!! Worked with Mum, going through labels, to monitor the sodium intake. Will take a while, but since they are both young, and want to grow old healthy...they are willing.
The weather in Boston.....brrrrrr. Jan and Feb, I was able to walk every day outside...no real problems....March and April...snow, we just had snow last weekend!!!!! Go figure..no snow over the "winter", and now that it's spring!!!! Last three days have been raining. But no tornado's like in Maryland....dear Lord.!!!! Well hope everyone is well!! |
Hi
Lynock- It is so nice to find you again.. I am still walking but not as much as I was. The Dr. told me yesterday I am looking at a knee replacement. I told him ,not this year.I am going to wait as long as possible. I went to his office looking for a solution and he gave me Darvoct N 100. I won't take them unless I have to. He told me to take them B.I.D. To heck with that noise. I know they are mild but I don't like them.
I am glad your dad is doing o.k. My hubby had a quad-bypass 5 years ago and is doing well. How are you doing? Are you walking outside now or using a treadmil? I can't believe this crazy weather this year. We had very little cold weather here. I hear about the upper states still getting snow. I have a friend in Canada that writes to me and she said she is tired of the snow. We really need the rain here in West Central Gulf Coast. That's where your folks live. The gulf breezes keep the rain more to the center and east part of the state. Bye for now. I guess I got yacky.Just excited .. Joanne |
Hey, everyone! It's so great to see that y'all keep up with your walking as much as you can, despite the obstacles thrown at you.
Anyone know how Patches did on her marathon? I'm training to walk the San Diego marathon on June 2. Did 19 miles on Saturday, and tried intervals of 10 minutes walking, 1 minute jogging for 13.4 of those miles. Felt great to do that!! Average of 15.1 minutes/mile for the whole 19 miles -- not bad for a fat chick! |
Joanne, Have been walking outside, except for rainy days!! The snow is the kind (since it all started in March) that it snows, and is gone within an hour or so!!! Cold doesn't bother me, unless it's cold and WINDY!! But then I just bundle...but for April....damn, it's rained and rained, we just got over a 3 day stretch, then clear, then rain for 2 days....looks like this weekend is going to be good, so pavement here I come!! Of course, I think we had just as much snow in April as we did March!! Very strange winter, considering, Last Thursday it made it to 99 degrees, then snowed that weekend!! It's a challenge at best! I didn't loose anything over the winter, BUT I didn't gain!! Still hanging out at a loss of 65 pounds!
Sorry to hear about your Knee!! Most of the patients I deal with would rather take Motrin like pills, rather than Darvocet, less constipation!!! LOL Mass General does alot of TKR's, and I've seen patients that hadn't walked in years, recover to an indepdent lifestyle again....it's remarkable what they do!!! Because I work with mostly elderly, the average age is probally around 75-80, and they recover quickly!!! Most say after the surgery, they are sorry they waited so long!!! If it's an option that you MD is advocating...it may be a good one!!! I'll pray for ya!!! VE, good job on the wallk, and here I thought I was doing good signing up for the Hunger walk (all of 3 miles) which is a breeze, since I do that every morning!!! LOL I still can't jog, I'd like to, but even though I've lost weight, not an ounce in my ummmm breasts, and bouncing boobs aside, it's an uncomfortable jog!!! Yeah I've tried, the sports bras....I'll just wait (if they reduce) until they are not so active!! LOL |
Hello
Lynock- Thanks for the reply.. I have already had one knee replacement. I am hoping that the recovery will be easier this time, when I decide to go with it. I don't plan to do it till next year no matter what. I have a trip planned for October to Arizona to see my brother . I will just tell the Dr. to hold me together till then.I have not been sorry about having my right knee done. I am still walking ,just not as often or as far. I did 3 miles yesterday and didn't sleep much last night for the pain. I won't be walking today. I am trying to lose a few more pounds. With less elbow work and Gods help.I didn't lose over the summer. Just up and down most of the time.
Bye for now..Have a good weekend..Joanne |
