Hi
Good Morning .. I have not walked for a couple days. There always seems to be something to get in my way. I am really looking forward to the first of the new year so that I can get back to my regular routine without so many extra things to do.
Patch 128? I haven't weighed near that in years. I am 151 this morning and feel lucky it isn't more. It is really hard for me to lose. I try to do everything close to right. Holidays and a lot of food around is a nightmare. I have to concider other people though. Liz.. How are you? Keep up the good work. Baylee... I have a treadmil and find it hard to use it too. I like the outside walking. I like walking alone with my CD player. I live a mile and half from the Gulf of Mexico.. A beach is 3 miles away. I walk there as often as I can. Bye you all...Joanne:wave: |
Hey Joanne and all of you Exercisettes!
Oh Joanne - that must be heaven to walk along and see the gulf's water. I live in Santa Monica about 2 blocks from a cliffside park overlooking the beach. It's such a beautiful view and I never get tired of it. I know during the holidays it just can be so tempting to indulge, and when you don't - at least every once in a while - you end up feeling deprived. So enjoy - and have a great holiday. |
Hey There
Patch - I have always wondered what it was like in California... I have been a lifetimer for the past 3 years. I don't go to all the meetings like I used to. I watch my weight very close and get real upset when the scale starts to creep up. I walked my 3 miles today and will try to do so as much as I can during the Holidays . I know I will be eating things I shouldn't at times but hope to balance it out with my walking and being good as much as possible.
Hello to Liz and all my walking friends...Joanne:wave: |
Hey Joanne - Yeah I'm a lifer too since July '98. And I too have had my laspses... I had stopped going to meetings regularly, just once a month, was journalling erratically, ya da ya da... and the pounds slowly crept back (10 pounds above goal). I hated to pay again (but did a couple of times) but knew if I didn't get back into weekly meetings, etc. I'd keep sabotaging myself.
My WW leader started a 12 Week Challenge to lose, back in June '01, and that really jumpstarted me. I'm now back at my dream weight, but as much as I know how worth it - it is... it's tough at this time of year. So give yourself a pat on the back for hanging in there Joanne and all you guys... and at least being conscious of what you're doing. |
Hey There
Hello Patch- I like your walking snowman- I wish I knew how to do that. I made cookies last night. Ofcourse I tried a few. Bad business. I have so much to do today.. I probably will balance out my no no's. You all, have a great day.. Joanne:wave:
|
Hi
Well Hello Everybody.. I walked almost 3 miles yesterday.. I paid the price last night. Maybe I am walking too fast for my knees. I hurt all night. I am not going to give in to it. For the past 5 yrs I have kept the same pace and Now my body wants to quit on me. I have relied on walking to help me keep my weight down. It quiets my nerves and clears my mind of stress. I need it!Now I have unloaded on you all and I hope it did not louse up your day...
I got all the Christmas food out of the house. Everybody went home with care packages.. Hello to all my walking friends.. By the way . I had a great Christmas. Bye..Joanne:)  |
Hey there Joanne.
I'm a techno dweeb from way back. So it took me a long time to figure how to copy them. I just right click on the mouse over the image and then left click on the copy button. I save them in any old folder by just pasting them in. Then, when I want to use them here, I open up a post reply and then click on the Browse button to the right of that Attach file: area and find the folder and click on the animation file. Voila! Hope this helps. You might want to connect with an Orthopedist, or physical therapist who specializes in working with sports related patients. They usually are more sympathetic and have alternative ways to strengthen the body to overcome injuries. I know what you mean about not wanting to give up walking... I don't know what I'd do if I had to give it up. I had a taste of it when I threw my back out, and had to stop for 2 1/2 months this past summer. I was freaked. But I went to a physical therapist and told her I wanted to get back to it, and hoped whe could help me concentrate on those areas I needed to stretch and strengthen in order to do it. She really was a tremendous help. |
Hey There
Patch30..Thanks for your info, the truth is I need to take a course or two to learn a few little things about my computer. You lost me on the second sentence.
About my knees. I have osteoarthritis and already have one knee replacement and need another. It is bone on bone in my left knee. The Dr. wants me to hold off. Probably because the insurance companies push that policy. He injected it but I don't think it helped all that much...No use complaining.. But , I will keep up the walking as long as I can. It is the only exercise I can do. I hope you and everyone out there has a great N.Y. Joanne |
Hey Joanne,
Missed posting with you all!!! Been so busy with the Holidays!!! Missed some walking...did endulge over the holidays...but that's what it's all about!!! Gained 1.6 pounds..but, I can take it off (grins hopefully). I did loose 6 pounds the first 3 weeks of December, so for the month...I'm still in the black!! Total now is 63 pounds! So I'm happy for the year...2002 will even be better. Hopefully I'll be at my goal by June!! Walking has been a day by day adventure. Temps for December have been from a low of 22 to a high of 72!! You have to love Boston!!! Today was 26 when I went out walking..But I was bundled, and the sidewalks are clear..no snow currently!! Had to skip walking acouple of days when we had snow, then we had freezing rain..can't walk on that. Don't mind the cold....just have a hard time walking on snow&ice. This morning I walked 5 miles, can only do .5 miles on the tredmill before gasping for breath...would rather walk outside anyday..the the tredmill...but once we get our snow...I'll have no choice!! Hope you all have a Wonderfull New Years celebration. I purchased my chinese food today..it allways tastes different on NY's day!! I bought some lower point stuff..greenbeans, chow mein...and spicey veggies. chicken wings are the worse at 3 points apiece..that I can live without!!! Going over the past months postings...hope your knee is feeling better!! LynnMarie |
Hey There
Lynock-It is so good to hear from you.. I had a great but emotional Christmas. My sister that has lived in N.Y. for many years has half way moved to Fla.was here. We had the first Holiday we have had since we were about 9 an 11 years old. I will be 69 in march.
I ate what I wanted and this morning the scale said I was at goal..!! Surprise!! I was a little worried . I had my knee injected before Christmas. Some days I think I can't take another step and other days it doesn't hurt at all. It is bone on bone so I know that eventually something will have to be done. I refuse to put my butt in a chair and stay there. I would go nuts anyhow. I can't sit still for much more than 15 min. anyhow. I won't give up my walking. It is the one hour in the day that is mine. I can't imagine walking in weather that you have up there. I have only seen it a few times in my life. Like you I am not fond of the treadmil although I lost most of my weight walking on the thing. I hope that you and all our walking friends have a safe and Happy New Year. I am not cooking anything special for the New Year. My sister asked us over for Black eyed peas. I don't eat them as they don't like me.. Tooo much gas for me. My hubby likes them. I hear about a lot of people eating Chinese food now, ???. Bye for now...Joanne |
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVRYONE !!!
|
Hey There
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Tazmani- I was wondering where you were. It has been a nice Holiday. Now it is over and we all will try to get back to normal. I hope you are healthy.
Hello to all our walking friends. I made only a couple pledges. To stay and get in better health. To try not to complain about myself. No one wants to hear it anyhow. In other words BE HAPPY. Bye, Joanne:wave:  |
 Hi Everyone..........Room for one more? :^:
I need to find a home where I can fit in and get this butt a movin. I'm a slow loser and slower then ever at exercise. I have almost 100 pounds to loss and been with weight watchers since Feb 21 2001 losing less than 10 pounds to date. Not a good showing and set new GOALS for 2002 I've given up on resolutions as I can't keep them more than a week..........so here I am hoping to join in with fantastic group of ladies....I heard from patch 30 about this thread and it's just what the doctor ordered. He's not been real happy with me and all the illness I deal with. Last time I seen him he did the :nono: I've set my mind to regaining some of my health, and my biggest struggle is the Meniere diease I suffer from. (balance disorder), migraines, goiters lining the thyroid, ulcers, and forget the rest......just a basket case trying to do something about it! So I have recommited to my Weight Watchers program and want to find support in my struggle with 15-20 mins on the treadmill, as I see my health improve and the weight start to come off. Thanks for letting me share....I hope to join you all! Snowball  |
Hi
Welcome Snowball.. It must be really cold where you are?? I am a Weight Watcher lifetime member. Although I do not go to meetings as I should. I don't really like going to them.. I did go faithfully until I lost my weight. And if I creep up over my goal I go back long enough to get it off. I found that writing everything that I put in my mouth down was the first step. It made me aware of what I was eating and how much I should not eat. I also walked and still do everyday. I let nothing get in the way of my plan to lose the weight. You have to commit to yourself . No one else matters. You must take care of yourself. BE SELFISH!!
All of us who are overweight have health problems. Together we can do most things. Come on over and let us help you as you can probably help us. We all have ideas we can pass on to each other. Now get off that chair and walk. Increase your time and distance each week. You will be surprised how far you can go at the end of the month. Some days will be hard. But you have to think past that.. You can do it!! I hope you had a good Holiday... Did you throw out all the goodies? Bye Joanne:wave: |
Great to see ya Snowball! This is a great site and a wonderful bunch of people. Don't compare yourself to anyone else. You'll get there both weight and toning wise in your own time. This is a great start.
I walked both Monday, Tues and today, and probably tomorrow. Trying to make up for the extensive eating. And Joanne is right about one step at a time and two steps next time. All you need to do is increase you time by five minutes each week or every other and soon you'll be amazed at how much you're doing. I also had to throw out all the goodies  -- they are just too tempting. |
Highs in the 20's today..........but no outside exercise! :o
I worked from 8-2 today and still have this nasty headcold I'm dealing with......but did get on the treadmill for 15 mins tonight and walked just under 3/4 mile and called it quits. Feeling a little :dizzy: , and have been light on the points the past couple days, as nothing has much taste, but back to journaling, and I drink at least 15- 8oz glasses of water daily so I'm finding my way back, and I'm going to make 2002 a year to remember .:smug: The weathers been cold, even bitter with the wind, and just no snow on the ground to talk about. We should have 18-20 inches by now....all we have is a dusting :( I'd love to try my hand at ice skating but hate to spend big money on something I may break bones at!!! my luck  Well dishes are calling from the kitchen......where's that maid when I need her.....oh forgot I'm the maid!! Have a super night all Snowball  |
Hi
I didn't walk yesterday... Raining... I nibbled all day.. Not a good day. I got up and put all my hubbys junk in the closets. I hope out of sight out of mind. I did not follow my own advice:( It was still raining when I got up this a.m. We need the rain so I won't complain too loudly. We are supposed to have a really cold spell coming. The plants down here are not used to that. So out comes the old sheets.
Bye for now everyone. HAVE A GREAT DAY.. Joanne:wave:  |
Hi, Joanne, Patch, Taz, and welcome Snowball!!!
I can sure relate with the cold weather. I'm glad we have no snow!!! I usually love the snow, but as I posted a couple of days ago...the tredmill and I, well, I'd rather walk outside no matter how cold it is. I just came in, it's 22 out. But I was bundled, the sun is shinning and the wind is pretty low. Almost perfect for walking!!! LOL (if your an Eskimo) About your 10 pounds. You've lost 10 pounds!!!! Don't look at the big numbers...set yourself little goals. And Patch is right, we all lose differently, just as differently as we put it on!! My MD stated that one pound a week would be great....well, there have been weeks, including the whole month of September, October and November where I didn't really lose anything.....but I stuck with the program...with some help from my friends, here on the board, they have all gone through it too!!! And at the end of the year, I've met my goal....of course it's the average that counts, and how you feel!! The one thing I've learned, is I can eat healthy, and it can taste good!! Joanne brought up a good point....write down everything you eat, it helps in the awareness, and exercise, nobody starts out going 5 miles a day. And your doing more on the tredmill than me. I haven't made it beyond .5 miles!! So how do you do it?????:D Good luck, and good walking to all Oh...weightin last night went up .6 pounds. Chinese Food will do it every time!!!;) But it was worth it!!! No guilt here:devil: |
Hey there gang... short note today.
Walked about 3 miles (bit of hill work) today. Went out with a friend who is crazy enough to meet me every Thursday at 6:15am for a 45 min "jaunt". I find it's really helpful to have a goal for the month so I figure I might be able to do 50 for January. So far I've done 9 (counting today). |
:o Okey Patch........3 miles!!!! today!!!!6:15 a.m!!!! OMG this body is just trying to arise from the dead....oh I mean bed at 6:45 maybe 7 a.m if I can get away with it. :D
Been under the weather with the worst headcold I've had in years and years. Migraines, and right now if Santa would of called looking for a BIG reinwomen with a red nose to pull his sleigh.........I'd be ready!!!! I have figured out there is NOT a tissue on the market that could save this sore nose and not enough make-up to cover it and make it look normal.......so guess tomorrow at work, the customers will get a good laugh, and can tell TOM is on his way too!........Man when it rains it pours. I haven't been on the treadmill today and think I'll just wait this cold out before adding more ill's to what I planned as NEW START with the New Year!! Still watching the points and journaling.....over yesterday by 3 had several banked so should be okey. Will make a commitment to either the treadmill Saturday if not that I have an air glider that causes less stress on the joints..........so it'll be one or the other as this is my weekend off..:smug: thank goodness, and between rest and exercise, planning meals for next week, grocery shopping and housework, I won't have much else to do.... Hope everyone is doing well....exercising more than I have the past few days anyway. I'll get this fanny on track before you know it and patch when I hit a 3 mile day, you'll be the first to know......okey maybe a miles and three quarters  guess it's not something you start at the top and work down... Snowball :angel |
Hey
I hate it when I write a reply and then make a boo boo and lose it. There must be a way to get it back but I don't know it.
I didn't walk today or yesterday as it has been raining and cold. Lynock ..You are braver than I am. I don't think I could walk in 22 degree weather. I can do the 3 miles on the treadmill. I will tomorrow if the weather is still bad. I just don't like the treadmill. I like to get out of the house and away from everything. Snowball.. Don't stress about how or if you lose. 1-2 lbs. a week is good. As long as you are on program it will work. Your body has it's own time clock. It actually is not good for you to lose faster. I find that when I worry about it too much ,I don't do as well. Keep up with your exercise as it is just as important as your eating plan. I couldn't think of it as a diet, but a new way of eating. I know it has to be a lifestyle. I am not saying I will never eat Fried Chicken or pizza or any of the foods I like again. I will. Just not too often or as much. Hey Patch..Taz... Was Santa good to you? Taz ,You will be colder than I will tonight. It will be cold enough her on the west coast of Fl. Bye you all.. Joanne:wave:  |
Hey all took today off from exercising and will be doing a few miles tomorrow.
Enjoy everyone. I don't think I would even get out of bed if it was 22 degress brrrrrrrr. I'm a Cal gal (Los Angeles/Santa Monica) and when it hits fifty we start shivering. :o Have a great weekend all.... Patch |
Patch, funny you should say that, Christmas it was 47 degrees, and around here...no one had their coats on. Sweaters only, we are such brave souls!!! I have a friend Andi, that lives in Seward Alaska, she's the same way...when it hits about 50 or so, everyone is in shorts!! I quess it's what your use to!! LOL:cool:
Joanne, I can't believe you do 3 miles on the tredmill...Good for You Woman!!!:smug: I've been trying to build up the staminia for the tredmill, but it's hard!!!:( But I'll keep a going!!! Cause I've been watching the weather reports, and all though we've missed all the storms, Buffalo, boy 7feet of the stuff, and you all down south, with a foot, and we who usually get at least 100 inches of the stuff, nadda so far.....so we are going to get blasted I'm sure!!! Today was the coldest day we've had so far...it was 15 when I went out this morning. But I had on my long johns, sweats, my turtleneck, jacket, and my pullover, my gloves, and then my mittens, my ear jacket, and my hood from my jacket, so I was toasty. If I ever tried to rob the bank....the only thing you can see is my eyes LOL, and hazel is such a common color!!! I feel sorry for the people down south where they got all that snow....they can't dress for it....they don't know how!!!! Around here, you learn fast!!! Good walking to All |
Hey There
Lynock- How in the world do you move with all those clothes on??I have not walked in three days. I seem to drop in a hole now and then.. This cold weather has kicked up my arthritis and I am having some serious shoulder/arm pain. I can't take much because of my stomach. So it is the heat and advil which I should avoid. I'll try again today...
Hello Patch.. I didn't know it got cold in Cal. It was 36 here in Tarpon Springs last night. It is supposed to rain again tomorrow and get cold again after a short warmup today. It might get up to 60. You All have a good weekend... Joanne:wave: |
Hey there Walkers!
Yup, Joanne, the State has pretty varied climate. Two hours away up in the mountains, they actually have ski areas, and it can get into the 20's. Probably though, the coldest LA has gotten that I've seen is in the 30's and that's rare. Average temp is about 50 in our "winter" only lasting a couple of months. Most times it's in the 70's and 80's. Nuf said... no more complaining from me! :o And, Lynock, with 15 degree days, whoa! I'm in awe you go out to exercise at all. Major congrats on that. Went all out and put in 8 miles of racewalking today. Just a beautiful day. We started early at 6:30 just before sunrise and it was a spectacular unfolding. Ciao, Patch |
Hey
Hello All I walked my 3 miles to the beach and it was really cold. 51 degrees is cold blowing off the Gulf of Mexico.. Bye Joanne:wave:
|
Hey there Walkers.
Went to track last night... did about 3 miles, working on technique. 51 degrees, Joanne? Brrrrrr. |
Hey
It is still cold here in Florida. I didn't walk yesterday and may not today. There seems to always be something in the way lately.. Oh well , There is always tomorrow. Hope you all are well...Joanne
|
Just surfing the board, waiting for OH to get ready to go out nad saw your walking board.
JOANNE, have to agree about the cold, took me until 1pm to finally go for my walk/jog yesterday! Going to get one in later today when it warms up a bit. I give those who live up North a lot of credit for going out in cold weather to get in exercise, I can't even seem to leave the house in the weather we have. This weekend we had a SUGAR BUSTERS get together up in Orlando to watch one of our board members run the WDW MARATHON. Talk about giving credit, cold, windy and then rain, and people, of all shapes, sizes and ages, not to mention dress, ran this marathon-it was amazing and inspiring. Hoping that I will have the gumption to do so as well next year, but just the half-marathon-little steps first. Continued success to everyone on this board! Debbie 194/119/129 SB since 3/22/00 Reached goal 6/10/01 |
Hey gang. Thought I could sleep in this morn. But a dear friend thought otherwise. So, 2 miles later...
Patch |
Joanne - I read your Thursday post and don't know if you got my follow up - before all yesterday's postings were accidently deleted.
The gist of it was DO NOT LET THE NAYSAYERS GET YA DOWN... If I had listened to people like that I would not have accomplished much in my life, I wouldn't have walked the Marathon, joined WW, met my husband, reshaped my body, created and sold my artwork.... I bet you have the same kind of things in your life as well. I mentioned an 82 year old neighbor who walks 2 miles every day. He helps out around the apt. building, and is alert, vigorous, active, and has just great energy. He knows it's the exercise and decent eating that keep him in good shape. best Patch |
Hey There
Thanks Patch- I walked 3 miles yesterday and will try again today.. I too belong to WW and am lifetime. Staying power is sometimes hard. It was easier to lose.. Have a good weekend.
Joanne |
;) Good Eveing Ladies.....Took the day off just to enjoy the sun and the 40's............what a crazy winter for this area. Still no snow and with living in the country on a highway I don't walk outdoors. I'm not that steady on my feet due to the Menieres dieases so the treadmill and I that great big hunk of metal magic usually have a date, and today it was 40 minutes thought I'd die but here I am still walking.a little slower than usual but still movin and thrilled I made it as far as I did. :smug:
Tomorrow and Sunday I work so just may hit the air glider and try that for a change.....a smaller hunk of metal.....as long its weightlossing I'm happy. Been working hard to keep op all week. Journaled it all and some of it wasn't good..but I bite, I write!. Should have cooler weather tomorrow, we'll see as I don't believe a word they say lately........Well it's off to bed, have a long weekend ahead of me...... hoping everyones doing well ;) see ya all later Bye  Snowball  |
Hey
Very good Snowball.. I walked my 3 miles yesterday and it was a little chilly. I guess I should have been wearing long sleeves. Never the less I am taking it one day at a time. I don't journal as I should but after many years at WW I pretty much stay on top. At least I try not to go over my high goal. I start writing when I do. I have a treadmil but like to walk outside. My hubby uses the treadmil . He won't walk outside. If he has a block to go he drives.
Have a good weekend...Joanne:wave:  |
Hi all
Went to the track last night did 3.5 miles. Am VERY sore today. Really gave my butt a workout last night... by concentrating on technique.
Great going Joanne and Snowball. Keep it up! Hey Lynock and Debbie - where are ya? Patch |
Hi
Walked again today and am trying to stay on program. It seems when I slack down a little I have to pay the piper.
Hello to everyone. Keep walking and getting healthy... Joanne:wave: |
did 3 miles of hill work this morning.
|
Howdy Gals,
When I see you ladies walk, jog, or do what ever for 3-4 and more miles at a time I feel like a flop. You's ladies are making me :dizzy: . But then with almost 100 pounds to shed walking a mile and a half is a long venture for me after doing nothing for years. So Today me and my date :smug: strolled along at 3.0-3.2 mph and did get in 1.75 miles..... ~~It's a biggie for me gals~~ my butt hurts, my ankles feel like they are going to fall off , my feet hurt ......... BUTT......... I really do feel good about me today and what I accomplished. Been journaling since Christmas Day.......ran on the high side most of last week and added a new record of exercise to the mix of 5 miles for the week( better then maybe a mile or 2)......and ended with a small gain.......but hey! thats okey....because I feel I'm on the right track and what went on is going to be coming off...;) Had 2 1/2 inches of snow in the past couple days........Love It! as I don't walk outdoors due to health reasons. So onward and offward these pounds will go......I'm fighting and fighting to make it a go!~ You are all an inspiration to keep me on track.........and for that I want to Thank You so much. This is a super group of losers and movers! Bye for now  Snowball  |
Hey There
Patch - Good for you.. I had a Dr. Appt. today so did not get to walk. I didn't feel up to it anyhow.
Snowball- No one would expect you to keep up with anyone but yourself.. By increasing your walk/workouts a little every week you will get to your goal. Watch your eating plan and always stay on the healthy tract. You will get there before you realize it. When I was trying to lose my weight ,I never looked at the long term goal. I didn't even set a goal. Just thinking about losing 1-2 lbs a week was enough pressure. I found that is was easier that way. In the past I always said I had such and such to lose and it was too discouraging ,so, I failed . This time I didn't. Now I am trying really hard to maintain. Now this is hard. You can do this. I hope you have family/friends to help you. Hey Lynock.. How are you? Tazmani... Where are you?? Bye ...Joanne:wave:  |
Keep it going gals! You inspire me as well!
Taking today off... and planning on walking tomorrow. Your progress is just wonderful Snowball. And Joanne - shile maintenance is an eternal struggle... I've found it does get easier to balance foodie wants with health and weight goal desires. I'm not perfect either... far from it. |
