JoaneD, every three weeks, I gain like .5-1 pound, then the following week I'll lose double. 3-5pounds. I've been doing WW for 16 weeks now, and I've done it every 3.(that time of the month).
How did you put in 6 miles..and how long does that take you?
I did my first full walk today...of 50 minutes, and that was only 2.2 miles. Staples came out yesterday...keep the vacum tube for another week. Weather in Boston, has been only in the 70's. Last night walk it was 66 and this mornings walk it was only 65 out. Walking was great. Hope it stays this way!!! Ok, one can wish!!

Joanne D 07-13-2001 07:16 PM

Hello

Lynock-- I usually do 3.5 to 4miles in a day -It takes me an hour to an hour and ten min. I think it was Michaela that said she did 6 miles one day this past week. On occasion I walk 7.5 when my daughter is down to go with me. It is a little hard at my age. or maybe I just don't do it(7.5) often enough. We can do it in about 2 hrs.It is in the 90's here in Fl. now . Sometimes in the 80's if it has rained. I am 68 yrs young.I did not walk yesterday or today. I think I got some food poisoning at a KFC we ate at yesterday. Cramps all afternoon yesterday ,last night and all day today. Hope things are better tomorrow I miss it when I don't walk. I have done it so many years now that it is something I feel I really have to do everyday ,or there is a feeling of unfinished business at the end of the day.
Hello Michaela.Melissa
You all have a great evening see you tomorrow...Joanne

Michaela 07-14-2001 11:19 AM

I wear a pedometer all day to see what I walk for the day.Sometimes it gets pretty amazing. So no wonder that I would get so tired when I was walking 5 miles in the mornings and then what I walk all day. That is 10-11 miles a day.
I hope everyone is doing well today.

Joanne D 07-15-2001 10:56 AM

Good Morning

Hello
WOW! Michaela that is great. I thought I was doing great ,but it sounds like you are doing better. I walked 2.5 yesterday on the beast. [Treadmil]:( I started out to the beach but it was sprinkling. Wouldn't you know after about 20 min. It cleared up.
I didn't walk for two days before because I didn't feel well..So, I had to walk.
Hi Lynock - Hope you are healing well and getting your strenght back.
Hi Melhoward.. How are you doing?
Lets us all strive for a good week of walking and keeping to our healthy eating plan.
Bye for now...Joanne:wave:

melhoward 07-15-2001 11:40 AM

quick update

I have been walking about 4 days a week but I got frustrated witht he heat and rain so I just joined a health club. I am very excited about it. I am on my way now for an orientation visit and I plan on using the bikes and tread while I am there. I just wanted to let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'll let you know how it goes. I just needed something more because just the walking wasn't enough variety for me. Good luck to all!

:) Melissa

Joanne D 07-16-2001 09:48 AM

Good Morning

Goodmorning-
I got out and walked my usual route to the beach but, I added 10 more min to my time to give me an extra half mile. I am trying real hard to get this wt. off.
Melhoward- Joining a gym sounds like a good idea. It is a good way to get verity and meet exercise a buddy.
Hello Michaela- It seems with the summer here a lot of people are going in different directions.
Lets keep giving each other encouragement.
Bye for now...Joanne:wave:

Michaela 07-17-2001 02:14 PM

Joanne every lttle bit counts.I haven't got in much walking this week except at work.
Sometimes skinny people really bother me,not all just some.It isn't that I am jealous that they are skinny it just that they can be very rude.
You know the thing is that I am not a size 5 but I myself think that I am not totally gross.I am 5'3",215 ponds and very muscular.
I just can't believe some of the stuff that comes out of there mouths.I hate to tell them this but saying mean stuff doesn't help either.
Sorry I just had to vent.
I hope that you are a great day.

Joanne D 07-18-2001 08:28 PM

Hey

Hey Michaela- When someone says something to you or around you about overweight, just think to yourself how insecure they are. Give it back to them! Don't let them upset you. Only a small minded person would say mean things. Friends like that you don't need. My daughter is 5 ft and weights about 90 lbs. She has always supported me in my struggle to lose weight.
Keep doing your best and you will be fine. Don't let anything set you back. You are important!:) ....Joanne:wave:

Michaela 07-19-2001 11:47 AM

I am doing really good this week.I can even tell that I have lost off of my stomach. It seems flatter.
Joanne how are you doing today?
I have to work today so I will get in plenty of walking.
Hope you have a great day.

Joanne D 07-19-2001 02:48 PM

Hi

Hi There-
I am doing fine .I lost 2 lbs of the 5 over goal I gained . So I won't exactly shout until I get back down under goal. That is not going to happen if people keep giving me Belgium Chocolate. I didn't touch it untill today.
Michaela...Nice to here you are doing O.K.Keep walking .I feel it will get rid of our stomachs and butts. I see runners with really flat butts. Mine has always been to big. I waited years for gravity to set in....Joanne

Swan_lake 07-19-2001 04:56 PM

Indoor walking..

I haven't post in a while, but I've been walking to Leslie Sansone in the mornings, sometimes twice a day. I've been doing her everyday, and am proud of myself for this... When I did kick boxing, I looked forward to the weekend, so I would have an excuse not to do it... But, with Leslie's walking tapes, I don't mind doing them everyday... I pray to God, I continue this until my goal weight, and after... It is easy for me to do her instead of going out side.. I just feel much more energized staying in, even though I've dropped a lot of my old way of wanting to shield myself from the world...

Joanne D 07-20-2001 01:32 PM

Hello

Hello Swan Lake - If your walking tapes work for you that is great. personally I enjoy walking outside . I walk to a beach that is 3.5 miles from my house. Then my hubby comes and picks me up. I have walked there and back but not too often as it is a long walk. I usually listen to a different tape every day. sometimes country ,rock, celtic music. All different types as long as it has energy for a 3mph walk. I do this not only for my weight but my peace of mind. That time is mine.
Hello Michaela..Hope you are having a good day....Joanne:wave:

morrigan 07-22-2001 07:51 PM

Michaela

We (summer lites - formerly christmas lites, valentinies, and st petites) are doing a cross thread labor day challange with some other groups. The weigh in for starting is due by Monday morning if you would like to join us. We thought the competative nature of the challange might inspire us.

Lynock 07-25-2001 08:50 AM

Hello everyone. Haven't posted in over a week, as stupid me, went to open a window my husband had closed during a thundershower, and pulled muscles in my abdomen, where the surgeon had pulled some. Ouch!! My fault, I'm not suppose to lift anything over 5 pounds...who knew that meant windows too!!:dizzy:
Haven't walked since Saturday..boo hoo:( The weather in Boston has it already 85 degrees at 6am!! Tomorrow (or tonight) the weather will break. It's not the degrees, but the dew point, that gets ya...yesterday it was 80!! Couldn't even breath out there!!
Tonight we are due for thunderstorms, and a nice cold front from Canada....thank you Canada!!!
Looks like everyone is doing great. Last week at WW I lost 3.6 pounds....but since I was up the week before of .8...it comes out to my average. I haven't walked this week much...hope I don't go over. Splurged a little this weekend, celebrated with chinese food for my little sisters party, and on top of not walking....Well, I don't feel too guilty...will just stick to it this week. It hurts to walk with the pulled muscles...but not enough now to hinder walking. I have to go to the mall tonight, to pick up a present for my niece...I'll walk the mall. Should have thought of that early in the week...it's cool in there. Looks like I made up for not posting for a week. I've missed sitting at the puter, but it was an uncomfortable place to be!!
Good luck all. Weigh in is tonight!!
Lynn Marie

Lynock 07-25-2001 09:16 PM

Surprised me!! Lost 2.5 this week...bringing the grand total to 36 pounds lost!! I'm gonna have to make sure I walk this week, so I keep it off. Didn't make it to the mall, but the weather is suppose to break tonight...so I should be able to walk in the am. I miss my walk!! And I really miss my tunes!!
Hope everything is well with all!!
Lynn Marie

Michaela 08-02-2001 09:34 AM

I am down to 211 now.I was hoping to be at 200 by now but anything helps.I will be doing alot of walking today.I am going to the state fair.
I hope everyone has a great day.

Joanne D 08-02-2001 11:07 AM

Hello

Hello Lynock- Michaela- I weighed in this a.m. and was down 3 lbs. I walk my usual route each day 3.5 miles and sometimes further. I had a pretty good week. I was careful with my foods and with a lot of resistance didn't cheat. God must have had a hand in there. :) Hope you both are having a good day...Joanne:wave:

Lynock 08-03-2001 08:49 AM

Joanne good job on the 3 pounds. I (only) did .25 pounds this week. I weigh in on Wed nights. But since I went out to eat/parties 4 nights in a row...it was expected!! But!!! I finally went clothes shopping (haven't done so since I started in March) and have gone from a size 24 to an 18. (in pants only) For some reason, I don't think I've lost a single pound of the 40+ I've lost now in my chest!!!
Michaela..love those State Fairs!! cows, chickens..love to look at the fancy chickens!! Esp love curly fries (only time I eat them) and corn dogs (the foot long ones!!) Tops Field Fair is always the last week of September until Columbus Day...Love to see the largest pumpkin contest!! That 11 pounds will come off in it's own time..but isn't it a trial!!
Boston is going through another heat wave....but I walked this am...as it was only 76 at 6am. Can't miss my walks this week. Have two parties this weekend!!
Lynn Marie:lol:

morrigan 08-03-2001 11:51 AM

Michaela! That is 1 lb less than you were two weeks ago. Even if you stayed losing at that rate you would still be down 24 lbs in a year. Now compare that to me gaining 3 lbs in the last two weeks. If I keep this up I will weight 72 more lbs at the end of one year. I will take your end of the stick any day. Now I should say it is my TOM and I am really bloated and hoping those are not actual lbs but like virtual ones or something.

Anyway... good job!

And Joanne ~ 3 lbs in a week ~ that is 3x4x12 = 144 lbs in a year. Awesome ~ you are going to be at goal in no time if you keep that up!

Joanne D 08-03-2001 01:01 PM

Hi

Hi Lynock, Michaela, Morrigan... I hope I can keep the wt loss going. I ate at Denny's this a.m. and when I got home and counted the points for breakfast 8.5 I said no lunch. I seldom eat out but I had to go and get my blood checked so it was getting late. :( I like fairs too Lynock but my husband doesn't. Sooo I don't get to go. My single son would not go with his mom. It might ruin his image. Ha!He is 42 and still on the lookout for the perfect one. I got news for him.
Morrigan- Good job with the math. I am already lifetime but not where I want to be. 10 more lbs.
Michaela , I didn't walk yesterday. It rained all day here in central Fl. Sun is shining now so I will try for this afternoon. Otherwise I will have to be content with the treadmil. A slow weight loss is the best so just as long as you are going down be happy:)
Bye for now...Joanne:angel:

Lynock 08-07-2001 08:50 AM

Boy you all make me dizy. Boston is still in the 90's with a heat index of 5-7 degrees more...and the dew point is in the 70's(high range). Makes it oppressive to walk, never mind exercise walk. You have to be real carefull!! Suppose to last through this weekend!! Again!!! Second week in a row. But the thunderstorms are real cool!!!
I weathered it through the two parties...I provided lots of fresh fruit all cut up, melon, fresh pineapple, watermelon, and I'm still eating it. Have to make up for the two hotdogs I ate. Kayem hotdogs each have 160 calories, 14g of fat!!! can you believe it. Next time I bring along my FF beef hotdogs with only 1g of fat. But hotdogs are my favorite...but 14g of fat!!!
Good walking to all. Can't wait until my weight in on Wednesday...(yeah right)
LynnMarie
:dizzy:

Joanne D 08-07-2001 09:41 AM

Hi

Hey Lynock- Hot dogs! Lord I used to love to eat them too. I never even looked at the fat content. I haven't touched one in years. Now and then I will get some fat free for my hubby. I don't eat them. I heard at one time that they were made of a lot of added stuff. I guess that turned me off.
I walked yesterday and it was really hot. Not even a breeze out at the beach. A lot of humidity. It is cloudy now but it is supposed to get close to 90.
I weigh in Thrusday. I hope I don't have to pay again. My scale says I am on goal ,but you know WW scale is always higher.
Keep drinking your water and walking. ...Joanne:wave:

Michaela 08-08-2001 10:19 AM

I have not been doing very good lately. But I do plan to start new today.I have been drinking more water than pop though.I haven't been walking much lately because it is 100 degrees eveeryday and my legs have been hurting.
How is eveeryone doing today?

Joanne D 08-08-2001 11:42 AM

Hey

Good for you Michaela- Try not to drink the soft drinks-They are full of salt and that might be why your legs are hurting. Water retention. Just take one day at a time. When you have a clean day mark it off on your calender. They will add up. I use my calender a lot.
I have been helping my husband clean out a shed today. He is a worse pack rat than I thought. I may not get to walk today as I have to finish helping him and pack to go away for the weekend.
Have a good weekend everybody.:)
Joanne:wave:

Lynock 08-08-2001 09:40 PM

I am drenched!!! Hubby and I didn't start walking until 8:30pm tonight...finished at 9:15pm. But, it's still 90 out!! Had to walk though...haven't walked since Sunday....and tonight was weigh in...I did 4.8 pounds this week...how I did it????? Up to or should I say down 41.2 pounds now!! Last week I did walk twice a day for 45 minutes...so I don't want to lose the momentum.
Michaela....I walked at Barnes and Nobles the other dayl..it is so cold in there!! Will probally do that tomorrow too, as it's suppose to be over 100 in Boston tomorrow....hopefully the heat wave is suppose to end on Saturday..Drink that water...I get leg aches, when I don't get enough calcuim...have started taking a calcuim supplement...has helped.
Lynn Marie:dizzy:

Michaela 08-09-2001 12:01 PM

I didn't eat much yesterday.I was really sick. All I did all day was sleep and vomit.I feel better today,it must of been one of those 24 hour flu things.
The temp is finally falling here.
4.8 pounds that is great! keep up the good work
I hope everyone has a great day

babyboo 08-10-2001 12:14 AM

Joanne D 08-13-2001 09:40 AM

Hey There

Hey E verybody-- I was gone for a few days and came home with a sore throat. I hope you are feeling better Michaela... :) Lynock you are doing really good with your wt.loss and walking . you will love the results. I did only fair this weekend. Ate wrong but did get in my walking. I will try to get into a good routine the rest of the week.
I went to see Sawyer Brown on Sat. He was really good. With all the energy he has he won't worry about wt. at least for a few years.
Have a great day....:) Joanne

Lynock 08-13-2001 12:31 PM

Michaela. I hope your feeling better. Vomitting and Nasuea are the worse!!:( How does the yoga make you fell? Is it for exercise, stretching?
With the large weight loss last week, I splurged a little this weekend...but it ended up alot. Start back on bad habits...and!!!
This is my week to gain too. Every three weeks, I gain 1-2 pounds, then usually loose double the next week..just water gain, but this week it looks like I'll gain 4 pounds...most of it real!!! Well...I'll just start over. Still walking which helps. Silly choices!!
JoanneD, love that country music. Seeing Vince Gill next week. And this weekend it's (I know) Erin Tippen (?sp) and the one that sang the booty song...he's on Doc now...he's name escapes me. My sister works in Manchester, NH, and her boss gave her the tickets...of course we will use them...music is music!!!
Good loses to all
Lynn Marie
PS Welcome Babyboo

Joanne D 08-14-2001 09:37 AM

Hey

Hello Everybody- I didn't walk yesterday. I have a really sore throat and didn't feel up to it. I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow so I guess if it isn't better they will help me out. You know even though I didn't feel like walking ,I felt guilty for not doing it. I guess I am just so used to it.
Michaela I hope you are much better.
Lynock , I have been hooked on country music since I was a 12 years old. I used to listen to it every sat night when I was growing up. We had no T.V. in those days. My husband and I watch all the country music shows now. I never liked rock and roll or any of the other crazy stuff they have now. I am a rel country girl.
Got to get busy , so you have a great day...:) Joanne

walkin to music

Hi!
I am new to this site but really enjoying it. I have been walking foe a couple of weeks and I use walking music tapes from sportsmusic.com and they are grat for keeping me motivated. I have started at only 30 minutes per day ( the odd day I go out twice) and plan on joining WW in Sept. I have 100+ to lose and I am also 56 years old so I am starting slowly. I would love to join others to keep track of how many miles we put in per week/month whatever. As long as our weather cooperates I should be able to walk everyday
Cheers Diana

Joanne D 08-17-2001 08:48 PM

Hey There

Welcome Denwomen- I started walking several years ago to help me lose weight and to get my colesterol down. I walk from 3.5-4 miles every day. I started at 1/2 mile and 212 lbs. I thought I would not make it again. I have lost down to 150 lbs.I am 68 years young so I guess we are never too old To renew ourselves. I joined Weight Watchers, and they have a great program. Why are you waiting till Sept. to join? Do it now you won't be sorry.I want to lose 10 more lbs and then I will try to be happy with that. I use CD's with a lot of energy. Country , soft rock ,enigma. etc.
Keep talking to us . I love these sites . They help me so much . I know we all can help each other reach our goals.
How are you Michaela ? I hope you are feeling better and eating healthy. Did you walk today?
Hi Lynock...
Bye for now .. Everyone have a great weekend...Joanne

denwoman 08-18-2001 01:47 PM

Thanks for the welcome, Joanne D
I have been putting off joining WW because I want to be sure that I will follow through. I am not the most motivated of persons. Also because I live on a small island that would require me to take the ferry then a 25 km. drive to the closest town that has meetings, I can't be too flexible. They only have one morning meeting, the other two are at night and I don't want to be taking that trip in the winter. I am trying to stick with my walking although sometimes I have to force myself out the door, I guess i am just lazy. As far as the dieting goes I am home alone most of the time as my husband works 7 days a week, 60+ hr. a week and I am going to have to prepare myself by having snacks ready for those times when I am just bored. I really need to lose the weight, though, my dr. agrees and I have a lot of heart disease history in my family. aaaalso, I'm tired of being out of breath when I do anything. Sometimes the whole thing just seems too intimidating! I hope with support I can do it. Thanks for listening. Diana

Joanne D 08-18-2001 07:59 PM

Hey There

If I find that at home site I will put it on for you. If anyone else out there knows it maybe they will also.Denwomen-Diana, Don't look at this with the big picture in your mind. Look at it as a new way of eating. Healthy. I joined Weight Watcher at least 12+ times . I lost count. I didn't have too much staying power either. I still don't ,that is why this has to be a way of life for me. This time around I only had the free snacks in the house to eat. I gave all the chips etc to the birds. My hubby had to do without too. It was good for him too. When I got nervouse and wanted to eat I found something to do. I made sure to walk everyday and slowly increased my time and length of walking. I never looked at the end goal. Take it one pound at a time. Set your goal for a week to lose something. It does not matter if it is 1/4 lb. Decrease your fats. and high protien foods. There is a Weight Watcher program for at home. I don't know the site but it is on the net.It will seem to be a hard thing to do ,but it can be done. Just think how thrilled you will be with every lb. you lose. We are here to help each other...:) If I find the site for at home program for WW I will put it on and if one of our other friends finds it maybe they will too.
Keep walking and never give up....Joanne:wave:

Michaela 08-20-2001 11:09 AM

I have been doing pretty good this week.I have noticed that it depends on who I am eating with what I eat.I am finally starting to fit in some size 16 jeans.
I hope everyone has a great day.

denwoman 08-20-2001 04:17 PM

hi there

Joanne D - thanks for listening. I did run across the WW at home site somewhere too, but I'm not sure how I would do all on my own - I think I need to know I will be accountable to the group. I'm really scared to take the plunge, I am a perfectionist at most things and I really get down on myself when I don't do what I think I "should". I finally bit the bullet and confronted that scale yesterday and actually was surprised that I only weighed 250, I thought it was closer to 270! Anyway I would like to get down to 160 at least, and I know I can do it, I've done it before although that was on Nutrisystem 10 ywars ago and it all came back. I walked 1 mile yesterday but it was hard because it was hot and 1 o'clock. Usually I wait until the sun goes down and it's cooler. The previous few days I did 1 1/2 miles so I felt discouraged yesterday. I' m so hard on myself.
Michaela, I haven't "talked" to you yet but I ,too, find I don't eat as much when I have others around snd as I am alone much of the time, I'm going to have to get used to eating properly when I go on WW. in Sept. Good luck to you and let" keep on walking and supporting each other
Cheers Diana

Joanne D 08-20-2001 08:23 PM

Hi

Hey There
Denwomen , OK you jumped the first hurdle and faced the scales. . Don't be discouraged if you don't do as much one day as you do another. Keep in mind "every day is a new day." If you slip forget it and start again.
I did not walk yesterday. I was not feeling so good with this congestion I have. I walked 4 miles this evening. Boy is it hot. It was 92 here today. We have a lot of humidity here in Florida.
Hi Lynock How was Vince Gill ? I say him Sat.On the Opry show. He is so cute. If I was 40 years younger I might act like a nut and make a fool of myself. I can still look though.
Micheala .How are you doing.. ? Lets hear from you.
Bye for now.........Joanne:wave:

liz321 09-01-2001 09:54 PM

Hi all.......I am Liz in Canada......been on ww since Jan and have lost about 37 lbs...need to get moving to lose the last 37......want to walk, hoping to get some inspiration from you all! Looks like a great site

Joanne D 09-02-2001 10:09 AM

Hi

Hi Liz-- This is a great site. With the summer and all it has been a little slow. Welcome. You have done well with your weight loss and now you are at the halfway mark. Keep up the walking better yet try to increase your time and distance. I lost 57 lbs with the help of WW and walking. I am now trying to lose a added 10. It is not easy. My body says enough! It seems to be fighting against me. HA:) I don't give up too easy.. You can do this. Have a good weekend and if you slip just go right back to it.
You are enjoying some nice cool air up there. It is in the 90s still here...
Bye for now...Joanne
