Hi everyone!
Joanne, here I am. I live in Haines City which is in NE Polk county. I've had my share of fat weekends too.
Florida weather is so unstable. It was 88 degrees today, then it rained cats and dogs this afternoon. I weighed in 2 pounds lighter last night. This has been a hard week as far as exercise goes. I got my walking in as planned, but missed my strength training session Monday. I guess my body needed rest more than exercise. I have had a healthy food week so far. Take Care Ladies ;) |
Hey There
Vivica, I used to have realatives in Auburndale and probably still do. The names were Raymond and Barrineau. Oldtimers in that town. Everybody knew them.My Daddy's brother had Barrineau Retread for years. My G/Father was a building contracter there. I have not been having a lot of luck losing lately. Maybe my occasional slips are working against me. If they were major slips I could understand. I was only able to walk 2 miles yesterday. My arthritis has really been hurting. Maybe it is the weather change. We should have cooler weather coming in today.
Michaela, Liz ,Keep up the good work. I bought candy for the kids for Halloween. I hope I can stay out of it. Taz- How are you? How do you like your new tread? Bye for now...Joanne |
Hi Joanne....hope you are feeling better soon......you will get through these minor slips......I had a good week.....tired but a good tired, cleaned straight for 2 days.....has to count for something....still haven't started my walking program but it will come....everyone else have a great weekend!
    (a wave for every 10 lbs down) Liz in Canada |
Hi Everybody
Today was a good day. I just walked my dog for 20 minutes at her slow pace, and then walked quickly 45 minutes alone. I got in some weight training today too. My current weight is 259. My starting weight was about 280 on September 2.
Joanne: I'm sorry to here about your arthritis. Ask your Dr. if you can try Celebrex. It helped my hubby with his pain. It's commendable that you got any exercise at all since you were hurting. 2 miles is nothing to sneeze at. The weight loss will come when it comes. Take Care Ladies   :) |
Hey There
Vivica- I have been on every kind of arthritis med there is ,I think. Celebrex was the last one. The Dr. took me off and said he didn't want me on it unless I had inflamation and swelling with the pain.I have a very bad stomach from all the meds. I don't take anything but Tylenol and /or Advil anymore. I have learned to live with pain and I try to ignore it until it gets bad. I think the weather change has a lot to do with it. I usually hurt more in the cold weather. Enough of that.!!.. I walked three miles this evening and it was a lot easier.
Hello to all my friends here. Joanne I used to weigh 212 I now weigh 150 I want to weigh 140:^: :) |
new here, love to walk
Hi everyone:
I was delighted to find this thread. I just joined, and have posted in a few threads. Used to walk about 6 - 8 km a day back in 1994-95, when I went on a serious walking program. However, I was pretty carefree then too. . .now, with working motherhood, demands, demands, demands, I can find any excuse not to get out there. Has anyone had the experience of going off a walking program and getting back on it several years later? Do you think muscles have "memory"? I'm hoping they do, because I feel really out of shape now and wonder how long it's going to take to have that old feeling again. Actually got to the point the last time where I craved the exercise. Have about 70 pounds to lose. Horrible. Just bought the scale yesterday. How did it ever get this bad? Any support out there most welcome. jess |
Hello guys,
I hope you all have been doing well. You are not going to believe this but the treadmill saga is still alive and well. When the treadmill was delivered on the satuerday after my birthday it came broken and had top be takten back to the warehouse. Sears rescheduled the delivery for the following Wendsday. That one was delivered and set up. Once the delivery men were gone I rtied to walk on it and found that about 6 of the speeds on the control panel isn't working. Now it is sitting in my exercise room waiting to be picked up. Sears offered me a top end treadmill to compensate for my inconvience so when this one is picked up they will deliver a Nordic trec for the same price I paid for the Pro form. I can wait for it now. That Nordic trac has a really nice warrentee and is so quiet when walking plus it has some really cushion to the belt. I'll keep you guys posted on the latest. I'm still walking everyday but I'm using the track at the gym. It is so short and it takes about 22 laps to make a mile but untill I get this treadmill thing fixed I do what I must. :) Well I'm cuting this just short of a novel  I hope everyones day is going great! Joanne: I'm so sorry to hear about your Arthritis. It is good the doctor took you off the meds. You only need to take them during times of a flare up. Ohter wise you'll build up a tollerence to them and they will stop being effective for you. Jess: Welcome and you are not alone. How did any of us get into such bad shape. We'll work on it together. Muscles don't have memory but they can make a come back |
WOW...feels like forever since I've been on. Lets see..
Weigh in Wednesday...2.6 pounds down...finally out of the slump...haven't lost more than .5 pounds in over 6 weeks...not complaining...just "feels" better to loose at least a pound..I'm much happier when I do!!! The extra walking, has helped!! Welcome Jess!!! I started walking in March...couldn't walk more than 10-15 minutes the first week, (I was 277 at the time) by the third week, with walking every morning..I as up to 45 minutes. Now....endless. This morning, cause of the extra time I had. My body woke me up when the clock said 5:30am!!! (It thought it was 6:30) Dontcha just love the time change!!, outside by six, walked until 8am!! I worked out, that I did almost 6 miles!!, I'm not walking tonight!! JoanneD, My mum has arthritis in her hands...she's done it all too, but she loves to knit. (she'll be 62 in January) Tried all kinds of meds, upset her stomach..now she just uses a cream...joint something....doesn't take the pain away completly...but she's hoping moving to Florida will help...the cold really got to her in the winter...Today it was 38 degrees when I walked this morning. Gloves and earmuffs weather...but the walking is brisk...makes for a much better walk!! Tazz, sorry to hear about your treadmill...but also glad for ya!!! I've been walking on mine...but it's still harder than regular walking...I can do about .5 miles still...before my heart starts pounding!!! Good Walking All |
Hey There
Welcome Jess-- Muscles do come back... Start slow and work up your time and distance weekly. or daily occording to how much you can take. I am walking 5 miles a day now... I do 2.5 in the morning and the same or more in the evening. It depends on the route I take.I was only doing 3 miles a day. But I want to lose another 9 lbs and my body is so used to walking that the only thing ,I think, I can do is increase my walking. You can do this! Get on a good healthy eating plan.. W/W is good.. Before you know it you will be getting new clothes.
Taz- My son just bought a Nordic tract. It is soooo nice. I wish I had one!! I don't like to take meds so I am not unhappy about cuting them out.. They make you gain weight too. Lynock, I live in Florida and have all my life.. I do crotching, quilting . sew my own clothes and many kinds of handwork. I have osteo arthritis in about every joint. Thank God it has not limited the things I love to do. I won't let it limit me. That is the main reason I walk every day and now I feel guilty when I can't. I guess I am addicted to it. I will be 69 in March. Bye you all.. Keep walking and getting healthy...Joanne:wave:  |
Hi
Where is everybody??? I hope that by now all the candy is put away or given away.. I am taking mine to my daughter for treats in the classroom. I won't go so far as to say that I didn't have some.. And I weigh in this a.m!!
I am walking as usual . I have been too busy to walk 2 times a day as I want. But when I get caught up I will.I have been having some knee pain. I hope I am not getting set-up for another knee surgery.. Let's hear from some of you good people. Bye..Joanne:wave:  |
Good November All
New month, new goals!!! Hope you all made it through Halloween ok!!! I had weigh in last night...so I avoided the candy giving..but since they are still digging up our road....no Trick or Treaters dared venture down our street!!! Another 2.6 pounds last night...I got to add 3 paperclips to my chain!! Hurrah Overdressed for walking this morning...yesterday it was 34 degrees..so I needed gloves, and earmuffs...today it's 60!!! Ok sweating is good...yeah right!!! Good Walking to All!!! |
Good morning everyone,
I'm sorry guys if I haven't been posting lately. It is only because I'm lazy and posting to too many borads and other threads. I like this thread and I promise to do better from now on. Holloween is over and I haven't had one piece of candy. I'm way too happy about that. Joanne: Sorry to hear about your knee pain. I pray it doesn't get to the point of surgery. Try not to stress it and stay off it as much as possible. Are you taking something for the pain? A speedy recovery to you dear. You're in my prayers. Lynock: CONGRADTULATIONS ON YOUR WEIGHT LOSS!!!! WTG!!!!! A  To you too Liz and Vivica Jess: I hope you stick around a while. You can only do yourself goods by getting all the support you can get. I hope things are going well for you. I'm on my way out to walk ladies, so I'll check in here a little later on. Have a good day and be good to yourselves |

walking it off
Hi everyone:
Well, I fit in 4 walks during my first week. Not bad, I wanted to do 5, but it just didn't work out. Diet worked out pretty well too. even over Halloween! Really have to do that stretching, though. The very front of my lower legs, running from just below the knee to the foot. . .big owie if I don't stretch. It's always been a tender spot. Thanks for all your encouragement and advice. How I wish I could just fast-track myself back to my old fitness level, but it ain't going to happen overnight. Something I've discovered -- there's more enjoyment (for me) in walking around our neighbourhood than in mall walking or working on the Gazelle. However, am hoping to be sufficiently motivated by the time bad weather comes that I'll manage to do those things if I can't walk outside. I've never used a motivation tape while walking, only music. Anyone have ones they like? Just curious. Talk to ya next week - jess |
Hey
Lynock- Good for you and your weight loss. :D It is still in the 80s here. I have all my windows open. I would turn on the air but I guess my husband would have a fit. He said if it gets hot later today we will turn it on. I will wait till he goes outside!
Liz - 4 waves for pounds lost.. That is good. Keep up the good work and try to walk when you can. Taz- I didn't walk yesterday.. My leg is starting to slip out at the knee and is not so easy to get back in place. My right knee did that before I had surgery a few years ago. I still hope to escape on this one. I have lost a lot of weight since then and as I didn't have a lot of pain hoped it would not get worse. I see my Dr. next week. I'll deal with it whatever it is. Hello Michaele and Vivica.. You All have a Good Weekend..Joanne:wave:  |
Good Weekend All
Hope everyone is enjoying the start of their weekend!!! It's mild here in Boston. Showering this morning, when I woke up at 6:30 to walk. It's suppose to clear up by mid morning. I'll have to take my nephew Kyle with me. He's three...pushing a carriage will just make the walking require more energy...a bonus...extra points. The walk will just take a little longer..as I have to pass two parks, and with a three year old...that would be torture for him!! LOL JoanneD...thanks. I hope you knee holds out. Any surgery is unwanted, but if necessary!! Jess...thanks to the folks here...stretching has become part of my walking. I used to get such severe shin pain when walking...if I stopped for a minute and shook my legs out they went away...duh!!! Keep going...I try for 7 days a week now...but usally make 6. I also try to walk twice aday. With the nice weather...any walking now cause I dont' know what the winter will bring..and I'm with you..allthough I now have a treadmill...it's bloody hard!! After 10 minutes "still" my heart is pounding!!! Taz...post when you can!!! I have odd times when I can get to the puter...what did I do before I had a puter???? :dizzy: Good Walking All |
Hey There
Jess- I like to walk with music too...I like most country. Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson, Judds, Shania Twain, Etc. I like Chers Believe. It is full of energy and makes you move faster. I also like Riverdance..Enigma.Alison Krauss. Jazz is good. Anything with good energy. Not Hard rock or screaming.
No worry Lynock - I have been putting this off for a long time and will as long as I can. My leg is bowed in a lot and I know it will not last too much longer now that it has started to hurt. I had it injected about 6 months ago and I am on Glucosamine Chondroitin tid. I have increased my Calcium to 1800 plus what is in my other vitamins. We will see.. Maybe they can come up with something else. I am going to try and walk today. Bye...Joanne:wave:  |
Hi Everybody
I'm just checking in to tell you what I've been up to and share my good news.
I walked 20 miles last week. I also weight trained 3 days. Today is a rest day. I ate lean meals most of the time. The worst thing I had was 2 pieces of bacon. I also had a few bites of pound cake but not a whole serving. On Halloween I was good. I only had 1 piece of hard candy. It was only 20 calories. I burned it off answering the door to give out candy, so i felt no guilt at all for eating it. I am eating about 1600 to 1800 calories a day. The weight training has apparently switched my metabolism to high . The weight is falling off quickly lately. I am wearing the sized 20 jeans I had saved from my skinnier days! I just bought some sized 18 blouses that fit perfectly. I was wearing sized 24 & 26 clothes when I started this in early September. I've just passed my 25 pound goal which also is 20% of what I want to lose. I've lost 27 pounds and weigh 253 pounds currently. I'm very proud of myself for sticking with the plan! Take Care Everyone! |
Hey There
Vivica- GOOD FOR YOU!!!Keep up the good work.. You have a lot to be proud of. Dosn't it feel good to buy new ,smaller clothes? I kept all my large sizes for almost a year before I gave them all away. . Hello to all my walking friends. I walked yesterday and my knees are sore today. I see my Dr. on wed.
By for now...Joanne  |
Good Mid Morning All
Vivica---good going!!!! I too was in a 24...now down to at 18...pushing for a 16. I've purchased size 16 jeans....and they get on me...but they are just tooooo tight yet!! I love the idea..that I shop in the "regular" stores now. JoanneD....I got rid of all my clothes and that included 23 dresses...that hurt!!! I have a limited wardrobe now...only buy what I absolutly need!!! cause hopefully..I'll need a smaller size...Keep it going. You did that in a very short time. I started March21st/April 1...I'm on my 30th week I think. Did have a 6 week time...when I couldn't loose more than .5 pounds a week. bummer...but stick with it!!!! Liz...here's to motivation!!! Your right...just pretend you're starting anew...plan, write everything down...it'll work!!! Didn't walk this morning!! Now I regret it....it's pouring, and suppose to stay that way for the next few days. I could use the treadmill. Ugh..I guess heart pounding is good for you!! LOL Good Walking All |
Hey
Lynock- Would you believe that I bought a pair of size 16 jeans about 15 years before I finally lost enough wt to wear them and then they were too large. I didn't give up on them . I said if I kept them that long I was going to wear them. I took up the inseam and waist ,cut them off and made shorts to walk in. The waist is still large and they are roomy but I wear them. I am now into a 12- 14 according to style. I am still trying to lose. I got down to 147 last week and now I am 149 today. I hate the way I go up and down so easy. One thing..I still love food. Junk food will never get off my list ,I don't think. :( Another thing..18-23 points just doen't seem to be enough sometimes. I have to try and control my desire to over eat. I didn't walk today. My knees hurt from yesterday. That isn't helping my wt. either. Bye for now...Joanne:wave:
|
JoanneD....18-23 points!!! I'm still getting to eat the 26-31 points, and though I can't complain I'm hungry.......as my mind wanders off to....you brought it up...never being able to eat junk food without wondering how much this is going to cost me on the scale!!! I just bought a scale recently...and this week alone..there has been a 7 pound up/down on a daily basis!!! But I also got my monthly today...so there's some H2O right there!!!
Well..need to walk to the library to return a book.... Good Walking All |
Hey There
Lynock- That 18-23 pts is what is giving me fits...I don't know if it is mental or physical, but I want more food. I was thinking about it today and maybe I just need to eat more veggies. Although I do eat a lot. I have about a 3 cup mixed salad at noon. With 2 slices of turkey breast and some olives in it. All total of 3 pts.For supper I messed up . I had chicken burrito. (1 an1/2) . I finished it off with ,get this, a nice sized piece of homemade banana chocolate cake. I couldn't resist. I don't have any idea how many pts.!!It was made with all the good stuff.. How do I know?? I made it!!My hubby wanted a chocolate cake. Now I won't touch the rest of it. I promise...I did walk tonight. My sister said we will be good tomorrow. You know like Scarlet in Gone With The Wind.
Bye for now..Joanne:devil:  |
"Wanting to be Good!!"
JoanneD...I think we can all feel that Wanting to be Good Syndrome!!! Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it...what am I getting out of this? Besides..fitting into clothes better, being able to walk up and down my stairs--without getting winded. Keeping up with my nieces and nephews...using their scooters, on the boardwalk on the beach, riding my bike, talking a walk to the library or to the corner store, without needing a nap afterwards!! Besides those...why are we doing this???? :^: ;)
Very chilly outside this morning for my walk...a brisk 31 degrees. But I love Sundays...I walked this morning for about 90 minutes..and didn't see a soul!!! But the wind howling. Forgot to wear my earmuffs..had to keep covering my ears with my gloved hands...and then walked crooked!!!:D Someone watching would have thought I was drunk...so used to swinging my arms...when they were flat against my head....you get the picture!! Vivica...I have bacon almost every Sunday...but turkey bacon. Two slices is only one point...since I slice those in half...I'm getting four slices (ok...I'm not fooling myself) I grill it on the GF grill, and sometimes even make BLT's for lunch....A BLT can be only 2.5 points and with cheese 3.5 points. Of course, I use FF Miracle Whip!!! Never like MW..but the fat free is good!! Good Luck Walking All and remember...there are no :nono: 's just extra walking!!! |
Hey There
Lynock - You made your point !! You left out a longer life. I ate out with my sister today. I was not comfortable doing it . It was Chinese and all I could think about was how many pts I was eating. I will walk 3+ miles today. Eat a yogart for supper. At least I will get out of cooking. I will fix my Hubby left overs. At least he doen't fuss when I do that.
It is in the 70s here. I can't imagine walking in 31 degree weather. We very rarely have a day that cold. Sometimes briefly 32 but it soon climbs back up. Bye for now .. Keep getting healthy ...Joanne:wave:  |
Hello
Where is everybody?? I walked today and tried to do most thing right. There is always something to tempt me though. Hope you all are well.. Keep walking and getting healthy...Joanne:wave:
|
Hey Joanne I'm still here and I am still thinking about getting in a walking program.....walking full time plus at work....gotta count for something! Take good care all! Liz in Canada
|
Hi
Liz- Nice to see you are still here too. Keep up the good work. Is it getting too cold to walk in Canada? I am a Florida girl and seldom see really cold weather. I have seen snow only 3-4 times in my life . I went out to find a pair of shoes to wear for church etc. so I didn't get back in time to walk. I won't walk in the dark. I am a little afraid of falling or of some crazy person getting funny. It is not too safe for a women to walk alone anymore. It gets dark about 6pm this time of year.
Hi Lynock- Next week is Thanksgiving and we are going away for a few days. More temptations to eat things I shouldn't. You all have a Great Weekend...Joanne:wave: |
I know that I haven't been around for awhile.I have been doing really good lately.I don't know if I have lost anything I think that my stomach is getting tighter. My size 16 are getting looser.
It sounds like everyone is doing good. Keep up the good work. |
Hi
Michaela- Nice to hear how well you are doing .. I seem to stay the same. Trying my best not to gain.
Hope everyone else is doing well... Joanne |
Hi
HAVE A WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING
I haven't walked for a few days. My knee hurts and I was afraid to put the stress on it. I don't think the Celabrex is going to be the answer. I sure don't want another injection. I think that is just a patch for the time being. Got to get through the Holiday and then I will think about it. All you nice people have a Great Holiday...Joanne:wave:  |
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Joanne and all! We had our turkey in Oct here in Canada. Had a gall bladder attack after our Thanksgiving. Take care Joanne, sorry to hear that your knee is giving you so much trouble. Enjoy your holiday...Liz in Canada
|
Hi
Where is everybody?? I did have a great Thanksgiving.. I am now paying.. I gained 3 lbs but have lost it and am again at goal. I haven't been able to walk too much though. My knee wants to holler at me and on top of that my stomach has started screaming so I had to stop taking the Celebrax. I seem to be having a lot of stomach pain. So now you know my woes:( Have a Dr. appointment next week.
Bye for now... Have a great day...Joanne:wave: |
Hello
Golly- Everybody left town or they are in the malls shopping. Hope you are still doing great with your healthy living. .Joanne
|
Hi and how are all the walkers? I haven't been walking, unless you count up and down the aisles at Wal-Mart  How is everyone...how are your knees Joanne...I am counting the 10 K I walk at work and I know it makes a huge difference in my keeping the 42 lbs off that I have lost...now if I could just double that and get the last 35-40 off....I will do this...bye for now...Liz in Canada
|
Hey There
Hello Liz- I have been not walking either. First because my knee hurt too much and now because I just don't seem to find the time. The Dr. injected my knee and it feels some better. I want to get back into my routine but I have to get Christmas under control first. I am walking in the mall shopping or as you are walmart. I also don't want to regain any of the weight I have lost.
Hope you all are well...Joanne:wave:  |
Hi
Welcomw Baylee_B... 6 lbs in a week !! That is great! I need to lose about 7 more to be where I want to be but that has been a challenge for sometime now. Up untill recently I have walked an average of 21-25 miles a week. I have had some knee problems and hope they are getting resolved. The Dr. injected it last week. I lost 57 lbs. with the help of W/W and walking. I hope to never put it back on. I have found that when you are down that it is a good thing to get out away from everything and forget it all if possible. I walk with my C/D music when I can.
Glad to have some fresh ideas, so pass them on... Bye for now...Joanne:wave: |
Hello all - I've been a walker for quite a while. Been serious at it for about 4 years. Have completed a few Marathons (racewalking) but now find it's a little much on my body.
So I've "scaled" down to about 10-15 miles per week. It keeps the weight and demons somewhat at bay. Really need to keep it up this holiday season. But I'm not trying to lose any more weight "just" maintain. Much luck to you all. And Happy Holidays! |
Hey
Patch 30- Welcome... I also have been a serious walker for several years.. I have never done any marathons except with myself. I seem to be able to maintain my 3 miles a day average. When I try to push for more it is a little too much for my body. I have osteoarthritis and it hurts too much. I do it for my weight control and health, physical and mental. A hour a day helps to clear my mind of all the daily garbage. I don't really need to lose more weight but will take a few off if I can get it.
I hope the Holidays are kind to us all...Joanne |
Hey Joanne and all you guys -
Just checking in. I also post walking on the McSkinny's Loosing Floozies - December Exercise Challenge. I've walked 34.5 miles so far this December. Probably will do 2-3 tonight... 3 Thursday... Then going skiing (but have not done THAT in 20 years so "we'll see" - I'm not going to push myself. Saturday's are usually my longest walk (this past I did 9 miles) but don't know what I'll do at the ski area. Just hoping to maintain or gain a pound at most this holiday season. Joanne I think 3 miles a day is just awesome! Especially with the osteoarthritis you have. You go girl! Liz - you will get there. Remember, it's just a pound at a time. Good luck with your 10K. Hey there Baylee - I know what you mean about the tread mill. I need visual stimulation to keep going, and I've also found I need human contact. That's why I've rejoined this Marathon training group - not to do anymore Marathons, but for the comraderie. I meet them on Monday nights for track, hookup with one of the gals on Thursdays for a quick and short 45 min walk, and then do somewhere btw 5-10 miles with a bunch of them on most Saturdays. Ciao |
