Great job on hitting your 10%.I just wish I could say that I lost 10 pounds.
I am always glad to hear of others success then it doesn't seem so impossible for me to do it. |
Of course you'll get there. The less you have to lose, the harder it is...but it's not impossible. My MD told me the first 50 pounds would be easier to lose then the last 50. Yeah I need to lose 100 pounds. I started at 277, need to get to 170. I'm at 249 now!! I started 12 weeks ago, so I think I'm doing ok. Thank goodness I'm tall. Even as heavy as I am, when I tell people how much I weigh they look at me amazed. My sister Karen is two inches taller than me at 5.11 and she weighs 170 now...and slender. Sister Brenda is 6feet 2 inches and weighs 190...now she is just skinny!!! Just keep walking!!! and watching those pointsl
Just finished with my am "stroll" I have to keep adding on blocks to keep it at least 35-40 minutes. Today was an 8cent walk!! Lynn Marie |
YOU GO GALS!!!
It's so inspiring to see what you gals are accomplishing.
One thought - and this one is directly from recent experience... Make sure you GENTLY stretch (ESPECIALLY THE CALFS, HIPS AND BUTT) about a 1/3 of the way into your walk (once the muscles are warmed up) and then at the end. Especially if your doing a workout that's intense for you. I've been a Walker (Mentor) for the past 4 years with a group called the LA (Calif.) Leggers. It's a marathon training group. And we've been fortunate to have a number of coaches and speakers guiding us. I've done a few Marathons, and now am back to what I consider a more sane training regimen. Still intense though. But I was impatient and cocky and "forgot" to stretch after two intense workouts (sat. and mon.) and tweaked my lower back. So now after paying for a Physical Therapist to tell me what I should already know, I'm taking it easy and STRETCHING!!! Joanne - you are amazing:D Losing 57 lbs. and walking 18-21 miles a week is awsome. (I'm 45 by the way and orig lost 30 lbs.) I do about 15 miles on average a week. And am back to basics with WW to lose the 10 pounds I've gained. For anyone who's intersted in using the Weight Watcher Journal, Check out the Maintainence / Lifetime Thread: 12 Week Journal Diary Challenge, I started . Writing down what I eat seems to be the only way for me to keep to WW program. Thanks again. And keep it up gals. I too started with 15 min 2ce a week and going very slowly. It works! Patch |
I have walked 14 miles this week.
Keep up the good work we can do this. |
Patch, please define "stretch". (esp, the butt) No seriously, I walk 3-5 miles per day, I do slow down about the last 1/4 mile and walk slower and start the first 1/4 mile slow too. I also find, that if I walk "too" fast, my shin (only on the right leg) hurts. I stop for a minute shake the leg, then slow down a little and it goes away. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you make it go away?
Didn't walk today..boo hoo. Hard to walk when you recieved morphine the previous night in the ER. They are moving my surgery up. Was suppose to be July 16th...Looking at maybe Monday or Wednesday of next week. Thank goodness...then things can get back to normal (or at least back to the way it was LOL) Women can't live on percocet, and walk in a straight line!!! Good luck walking ladies Lynn Marie hopefully the weather will hold tonight so I can at least get my evening walk in. |
the pain in your leg
Hey there
I just wanted to let you know that I believe the pain you are feeling in your leg is called a shin splint. I used to get them and I know the pain. It usually happens if you don't stretch your legs muscles enough during walking. They cramp up on you. I used to walk on a sidewalk and this would happen to me, sometimes one leg or both. I was told that if possible, when the pain appears, that I should try walking on the grass. It helps absorb some of the shock and doesn't put as much pressure or strain on the muscle in your leg. I don't know if this will help you, but I hope it does. Good luck walking. Btw, I didn't have a chance to breathe....or walk during the past two days and I am mad at myself for it. A storm is a brewing outside right now so I hope it lets up by this evening so that I can walk then. I definitely need to find an alternative to walking outside. :) Melissa |
Question?
Sometims I get a wee bit bored walking outside, and need to trade off... I have two Leslie Sonsone walking tapes, (2 mile and a 3 mile tape) do those count? And has anyone here used her tapes? If so, what do you think?
I find her tapes work for me, on those days when I just can't get dressed and go out side... |
In my mind any kind of movement counts.
How are you guys doing today? So far a walked about a half a mile at the park. |
Hello
Hello All-- I was out of the area this weekend but still was able to get my walking in. I walked 4 miles friday in the pastures at my daughters ranch. It is never a slow stroll with her. And sat. we went to Wild Adventure in Valdosta Ga. We always walk at the same pace no matter where we are. I will get back into my routine as I did yesterday. Walked 3 and half miles to beach. All in all I had a great weekend as I hope the rest of you did. One thing though. I ate too much and now I have to lose it.:(
Patch30- It has been no easy thing for me to lose wt. I walk because I have severe osteo-arthritis and it helps to keep moving. I am 68 years young and hoping to reach my grandmothers age of 94 when she passed away. Sometimes I am not sure I will make it;) It was easier losing the wt than it is keeping it off. Bye you all - see you later. Joanne:wave:  |
Thanks for the advice on the "shin splint". I live in the city....no real grass to walk on!! But have plenty of hard sidewalk. Will try stretching those legs though. Haven't walked since Saturday....oh no!! Did a childs birthday party on Saturday. added a new game bowling...lots of crouching to reset the pins....right thigh is cramped. Can't wait for it to go away!! Walking is ok...it's getting back up the stairs that's killing me. I live on a secondfloor walk up, with my bedroom on the third floor!! Stairs are murder. Own fault..don't think I'll do the bowling again. LOL will walk tomorrow morning if it kills me.
Lynn Marie |
Sounds like your guys are doing great.I got four miles in today.
|
Wow...walked twice today. This morning only walked for 20 minutes, and had to return home. But this evenings walk was for 45 minutes. Hubby joined me. Feel bad listening to music when we walk together, so I don't. Glad he's trying to motivate me though!! On the point system, you get points for time, not milage...but I have measured out the distances anyways. Stretched today as recomended. Legs feel good, and no shin splint tonight. Have to get all the walking I can in by Monday, my surgery has been moved to the 2nd. No fireworks on the 4th for me at the espande!! But that's ok, cause now I can get down to some serious walking and losing. Tonight as my husband and I were crossing with a "walk" signal, some "gentleman" came about two inches to hitting my husband. Couldn't help it...called him a jerk....he called me a loser...I thanked him...he should have seen the look on his face...specially since a police officer was hailing him to pull him over..Jerk!!
Here is to walking safely!! Lynn Marie |
Good Morning
Good Morning - I walked yesterday and BOY I don't know how. It was 94 degrees here. A storm was coming at my last few min ,but ,I did get my hour in.
Lynock- You be careful out there . In most cases after some jerk hits you he will say 'she walked in front of me'. We have the same here in Florida. I almost got it on a quiet street on my way to the beach one evening. I picked that way because my daughter thought it was safer. Well needless to say I went back to my main road. Hope everyone reaches their goal today...Joanne:wave: |
Sounds like everybody is doing good.
I got 14 miles in so far this week. Keep walking!!!!!!!!! |
Hi
Hi All- Didn't get to walk yesterday and did not want to get on treadmill. Just Lazy and hurt all over. Had rain and thunder too. I'll take the rain as we need it so bad here in Florida. I will get on treadmill today if it rains and I can't go outside. Outside is my therapy. One hour ,all mine. At home the hubby is always wanting something. He is retired too and doesn't always find something to do. Me I am busy all the time. I sometimes think I am busier than when I was in nursing. Oh Well they say that is the secret to not getting senile.:dizzy:
Bye for now. ..Joanne:wave: |
Joanne did you walk today?
I have only went about a mile.It is just to hot.I have my nephew today so I have to be careful taking him out in the heat. How is everybody doing today? Keep movin:wave: |
Hi
Hey Michaela- I just got off the treadmill,3.5 miles and a little over. I couldn't go outside ,it has been raining all afternoon. THANK GOD! We are over 13 inches in the deficit here in Florida. We have been in a drought for about 3 years. So you will never hear me complain about the rain. I have lived in Florida all my life and I hate the heat. I would probably say that about the cold if I lived in a northern climate.
I got a lot done today, vacumned, moped kitchen and bathrooms and etc. Quilted in afternoon and walked. And stayed at 21pts and about 1000 cal. Now all I have to do is be good till bedtime. Went out to my sons house and say a big black colored snake going under his house. He said he had been chasing that snake for a week. I told him to get some mothballs and spread around. Anybody got any ideas. ???:?: :?: Bye for now....Joanne:wave:  |
Michaela...good job walking 14 miles!!!
Joanne...Dad & Mum just retired down in Largo, near Tampa. Love their area, as there is plenty of area to walk. They had lived in New Hampshire, and it was all hills. Mum would come down to my area (Mass) just to walk. Mum says the same thing about retiring. She has plenty to do for now. Dad is still working, and plans to for another couple of years...or until Mum makes him so they can use the RV they just bought. They had planned not to hang around FL in the summer, but to come on back to New England. Like it's any cooler here!!! Since I've now lost 30 pounds, I've had to increase my walking to continue getting 4 points. Now have to walk 45 minutes. I've had to add two blocks to my walk. Going to have to change my music, and add a few more songs. This morning was only 73 degrees at 7am...so walking was a "breeze". Was thinking of adding extra walks Saturday and Sunday....but guilt I can do without. I won't be eating Sunday,Monday or Tuesday...but I will be back with a vengence on Wednesday..and hopefully back to walking on Thursday...if only around the block!! all of .5 miles!! Lynn Marie ps...this morning was a 41 cent day..a quarter, dime, and 6 penny...I'm gonna be rich someday!!! |
Hey
Hello --Lynock ,Your family has moved to my area. I live about 20 miles up Highway 19 in Tarpon Springs. I walk to Howard Park Beach every day I can. It gives me about 3.5 miles. I have walked both ways but it is a little far. I only do that when my daughter is here.I have a CD player and a verity of music. I always try to pick the ones with a lot of energy. I like country best. I had to get on the treadmill yesterday again as we had more rain. It looks like today will be more of the same. Thats ok we need it. :) The treadmill is so boring though.. I could watch tv but I would blast everyone out of the house in order to hear it. It is in the next room.I did 3.5 miles again yesterday and want to work that up to 4 miles. I better . The way I ate yesterday is a sin. I found some really good cuban bread. Big mistake! Bread is my biggest downfall.
Hope you and everyone has a really good weekend...Joanne:D |
I weighed in today I am down 5 pounds.I only weigh in once a month.
I hope everybody has a great day. |
Good Morning
Hello -- Michaella- WHAT A GREAT WEIGHT LOSS!! Keep it up you will get there. It has been raining here . But I am managing to keep up my walking. Let me tell you that at times that is the last thing I want to do. But I know if I don't I will feel guilty and beat myself up about it. I am ok once my feet start moving. I walked in the middle of the day yesterday(sat). The causeway to the beach is full of jerks on the weekend. I should know better. Evenings are best, but, I wanted to beat the rain.
Have a great 4th...Joanne:wave: |
Do you walk alone or with someone?I would rather walk with someone even if it is only pushing my nephew in the stroller.
Have a great day. |
Michaela---that's the way to do it. Congrats!!! Because of my gallbladder I've been losing 3-4 pounds a week...not a good thing!! (things should start getting back to normal after tomorrow...I'm acutally looking forward to it tomorrow!!) Didn't walk today (Sunday) as I can only have water today. Yesterday, did my normal walk in the am...tried to walk later on in the evening..but we had some SEVERE thunderstorms here in Boston!!! Big time lightening!! Kinda scarry and exciting at the same time.
Joanne---every e-mail Dad sends me...he talks about the drought...do ya think he's e-mailed me about all the rain...NOT!!! Loved the beach near Dad's house. Have to drive about 15 minutes...but so nice and clean..not like Revere or Nahant beach!! Too long a walk from his house. I've tried the treadmill...can't do more than 5 minutes...before I'm totally bored. Much rather walk. Just yesterday purchased my husband his own walkman...now when we walk together...we can listen to different taps/stations together. I listen to the country station, he listens to talk radio!!! Whatever makes him happy!! Walk safely...chat with you all in a few days!!!! Good luck Lynn Marie |
Michaela...just realized your from South Dakato...Used to live in Minot North Dakato, and GreatFalls Mt. Can ya tell Dad is retired from the Air Force? Loved North Dakato...even though it was darn right cold!!! Really loved Montana. Going to the Sun Road!!
Real Mountains....we have the White Mountains in New Hampshire...but they are just hills compared to out there!!! Lynn Marie |
Good Morning
Hello and Good Morning-- Michaela I walk alone unless my daughter is here. I found that most people around here have their own time schedule. I don't like to stroll along and talk when I walk. I lose my breath when I try to walk and talk. My lung capacity is not the best. One third of my right lung is gone . I had a serious clot a number of years ago . All I want to do is clear my mind and do my thing.
Lynock- We have had a serious drought here. Most people have lost most of their yards. We can only water our grass one time a week. This is what they call the rainy season. It only started to rain in the last week. When you live close to the gulf you don't get as much as in the central part of the state. I only live about a mile from the gulf. I live 3.5 miles from Howard Park Beach. That's where I walk to. On most any night you will see many people walking out there. You are lucky if your hubby walks with you. My hubby won't and I have to say I don't care. He walks a snails pace. That drives me crazy. Have a great 4th....Joanne:wave: |
I walked 4 miles this morning. So far all I have had is orange juice this morning. It is cloudy and cool here today so it was nice walking weather.
How is everyone else doing today? |
Hi
Hi Michaela- I just finished 3.5+ miles and can do better. I am going back to WW Thrusday to try and get my food cravings under control. I got to get off another 15 lbs and am not doing so well by myself. I thought I could do it alone. I really don't want to be dependent on WW. I feel untill I can I have not won the battle. I got down to 139 before and have creeped up to 154 . I still don't have the will power to say no. I have to regain that. I don't want to go back up to over 200 again. I really thought I was going to die when I was so heavy. My daughter and hubby are giving me the incouragement to go back to WW.
With the help of the friends I have made here and WW I will get this done. Bye for now...Joanne:wave: |
I am having a bad day today. My whole body feels exhausted. My eating has been bad too.
I did walk a mile and a half this morning. |
Hey
Hey Michaela-- Do what I am going to do. Get a good book and sit in the sun. Or spend some time on a craft or go to a good movie. or go on a picnic. I hope you feel much better soon. :) We all have these days . Don't let it get the best of you.
I have not walked yet . Mornings are not my best time. And this evening might not be good either. There will be a bunch of people on the road with too much to drink under their belt. I probably will get on the treadmill:( . My husband and I seldom get out on the road on holidays. I have some leftover chicken so we will have that and whatever else I find that I don't have to cook. Feel good soon...Joanne:wave: |
i actually walked today
Being that today is the 4th of July, my neighborhood has a huge block party. Unfortunately the weather is kinda wet today. This won't stop us tho. I went to walk and it was raining but then later it did stop for the most part, just sprinkling, and I did get my 30 min walk in. That was at one and now I am going to hop in the shower and get ready for the party. I may try to go for a slower walk later just to get away from the party and food, but maybe not. I will see how the day goes. I hope everyone has a good day!
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!! :) Melissa |
I feel alot better today.I even got in a 2 mile bike ride.
|
Hello
`Hi Everyone- Walked my 3.5 miles but it sure is not easy in this heat. My treadmill is about to go on the bum so I am walking outside more. Besides that I get so bored on the treadmill.
Hope you all had a good day...Joanne:wave: |
I'm back. Walked the whole length of my house x2 this morning. Ending up not getting the lap for my gall bladder. Had to do the regular abd surgery. Didn't eat from Saturday until yesterday (Friday), and I've gained 3 pounds. Doc says it's all fluid, I can see were it's at too....my abdomen!!! Boy am I swollen. My neice who is 23 came by last night after I got home. She recently got her belly button pierced and complained for days after, how much it hurt. Showed her my 45 little silver piercings....and my new handy dandy tube vacum attachment. I don't think she'll be complaining any more!!! Stairs are not a problem, so I walked up and down them twice allready today, Monday, I'll walk outside maybe to the end of the street, can't walk to far for at least a week, but I miss my walking. Wore out a path around the nursing station at Brigham and Womens!!!
Joanne-if being dependent on WW is bothering you...think about all the things you could be dependent on and aren't. And besides your not dependent on them....you "need" the support and encouragement. And the watchful eye and accountability. Think of it as something you do for YOU, and now one else!!! We are overweight because we have food issues, (or exercise issues), we could go to a psychiatrist. (but look at the cost) So think of it as saving money!!! LOL It's a good thing!!! I've tried losing weight on my own, and I was unsuccessful after several weeks, but WW keeps me on track!!! Lynn Marie;) |
Good Morning
Good Morning- I swallowed my pride (if I can call it that) and went back to WW on thrusday. I have had two clean days. I will take it one day at a time. I do need the structure. and I have to realize that I need the extra shove now and then.
I sure hope your healing time is short and that you are feeling 100 percent soon. Don't push it. I remember when I had knee replacement surgery. That was a test in patience for me. It took a year before I said "Thank God". I walked my 3.5 miles yesterday and am trying to increase that. I use Chers tape(Believe) the last 30 min of my walk . That will speed you up in a hurry. It is my sons tape and has a scratch on it so I will get another. Enigma and Celtic music are good. Of course most any country music. I like a verity . But I want energy. I do this at the end of the day as I feel 'now I can shower and read or watch TV(which I do little of). And it is not as hot after 6.30. Enough of me... Hello Michaela- Hope you are feeling 100 percent or close to it... Bye...Joanne:wave: |
feel better
lynmarie - I hope that you feel better soon. It is great that you are able to do as much as you are. Good luck with a speedy recovery.
I just got back from my walk and I hope to get one in early tomorrow before the rain appears. With my luck I will wake up to it raining. I have a long day at work monday and a meeting afterwards so I don't think I will be able to fit a walk in then, but maybe I will be able to work something into it. Take care, and keep walking! :) Melissa |
Hello
Hi Everybody- I walked more than an hour yesterday but was not into it so much today, only got in 30 min. It has been raining and it is windy on the beach- I didn't feel like fighting the wind any longer.I did a lot today with shopping and house work . I guess I am a little tired. I still always feel quilty when I don't walk my aloted time. :(
Got to walk my hour tomorrow as I have to weigh in at WW on Thrusday morning. You all have a good night..Where is everybody?...Joanne:wave: |
i am finally getting into the exercising again. With work i got in 6 miles today.Hopefully I get as much in tomorrow too.
I hope everyone has a great day. |
Hello
Hello Everybody
I walked the 3.5 miles today and hope that it will make a defference on the scale in the a.m. Don't get discouraged Michaela It sounds like you are doing good. 6 miles ! I rarely do that in a day. Bye for now...Joanne:wave: |
How many miles do you usually walk aweek.
Today I did 7.So far I think that that is 13 for this week.Tomorrow I am going to go roller blading. My eating has been good today. Joanne keep up the good work. |
Hello
Hello Everybody--I thought I was doing so well this past week.. Well I gained 1/2 lb! The only thing out of the way was a few snacks on the forth and some nuts this week. The leader at WW said as I was walking 3-4 miles a day to increase my pts by 1-2. Hope that works. And the fact that I took a free day today and ate out won't go against me.
Tomorrows a new day. Whatever the sins of today... Bye...Joanne:angel:  |
