I is gloomy here today.
My eating has been good today.Yesterday was kinda bad.I haven't exercised yet today but I plan on it later.
My new goal is to lose 50 pounds by next march. It is my nephew's second birthday.I am sick of being the fat aunt. That is about 10 pounds a month I just need to stay focused.
I have finally got rid of the leg cramps.
How is everyone else doing today.

liz321 10-09-2001 08:27 PM

Hey doing ok, but not doing any walking.... Naughty.....plan on getting right on it!;) Hope to hear from you all soon.......Liz in Canada

Tazmani77 10-10-2001 09:07 AM

Good morning everyone!
I hope you all get the chance to do your workouts today as well as take some personal time just for you.
I was able to do my walk outside today but I don't know how much longer I'll be able to do it. It is getting too cold out now. I don't want to get sick walking in cold weather and sweating. I got to do 3 miles today and I do feel revived.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!

Joanne D 10-10-2001 09:11 AM

Hey

Michaela- I could never set the large goal number in my sights. I said I would try for 2lbs a week. It made it not seem so hard.We will all be pulling for you to reach your goal.
Tazmani77 -Sounds like you are doing good.Keep it up. You can inspire us all.
Lynock- Lucky you. The tread will help a lot. I use mine when the weather is too bad to go outside. Rain is about all that keeps me inside. We do sometimes have some really windy days too.WW told me when I was in a holding pattern to eat more points a couple days in the week. My exercise was keeping me from losig. I was building muscle. Don't go over in pts, just your quota.
Liz- Try to walk some .Even if it is 20 steady minutes a day helps. I found that the walking at work didn't help. Being a nurse ,I was on my feet almost the full eight+ hrs. a day.Hope your gallbladder quiets down.
I walked almost 6 miles on Monday. Outside of shopping yesterday I did not get to go walk. I was so tired though I don't think I could have. I blue my points yesterday. It was my sons birthday and I cooked a good old southern dinner. Fried Chicken, mashed potatos, baked beans, salad. Ofcourse Chocolate cake. Am I nuts???I am back on track today I hope...Bye , Joanne:wave:

Tazmani77 10-10-2001 07:16 PM

Just wanted to check in and wish evreryone a good night and an early start on a good walking day for tomorrow. See you guys in the morning

Joanne D 10-11-2001 07:12 AM

Hello

Tazmani- I can almost smell the smoke from that old cigar. I am keeping to my eating program and walking although it is not so easy right now. The old stomach has kicked in. I have been up since 4 this a.m. with the pain. I guess it is time to increase the Zantac for awhile.
Hello Liz -How are you doing. Walking? A little each day will get you into a routine.
Bye- Joanne:wave:

Tazmani77 10-11-2001 08:23 AM

  @ Joanne, hello everyone. Well it is raining here today so my daily walk outside is off. I feel like I should be doing something. I still have H20 aerobics today so that will give me some form of exercise although walking seems to be the only thing that really helps take the pounds off.

Just for today everyone get up and get out on the track and walk your little tushies off. You can do it!!!!!!:)

i'll check in a little later, Have a wonderful day;)

Tazmani77 10-12-2001 08:04 AM

Good morning Ladies. HEY WHERE IS EVERYONE!!!!!!

It is still raining here and I'm sick of it now. It is going to go on all weekend too. YUK!
Well it is exercise tapes for me today. I wish I had gotten my treadmill like I said I would do yeterday. I just hated getting out in the rain so I kept putting it off untill it got too late to go. I'm going out today but no promise on shopping for the treadmill. Winter blues is kind of stting in and I'm not a happy camper.

I hope everyone has a smashing day. I'll check in a little later

Joanne D 10-12-2001 09:37 AM

Hi

Tazmami77-It has been a busy week for me. Yesterday ,I was not feeling up to par. I still went to the beach and walked my 3 miles. Then we set on the beach till dark and the patrol ran us off. Going to get my hair trimed today.
Lynock- How are you?Let me pick your brain. I am on Zocor 40 mg. every other day. I have been having muscle pain in my upper arms. Do you think it could be reaction ? I have been on Zocor for several years.I guess I could stop being lazy and look it up:) My sister has quit taking it and says she feels much better. You know when you ask the Dr. about these things they will just put you off. I think they get a kick back anyhow.
Hi Liz. Where are you? Hope you are well.
Michaela - hello.
Hope you all have a great weekend and keep walking..Stay healthy...Joanne:wave:

Vivica 10-12-2001 03:49 PM

Hi everyone!

I just got back from a doctor's appointment. I now weigh 263 lbs. I've lost 17 pounds!

I'm getting stronger and faster. I went walking yesterday and I did 3-15 min. miles. It took longer to get my heart rate up too. On day one I was doing 22 min. miles and could only do 1. Later when I weight trained, I had to add more weight to feel like I was working the muscles. Only 6 weeks into my program and I am seeing such positive changes in every way. I'm loving life right now.:D

Michaela 10-12-2001 07:58 PM

Hi everyone
It is raining here too.I went to the chiropractor today now I feel so good.
I hope everyone is having a good day.

Joanne D 10-13-2001 08:52 AM

Hi

Vivica-VERY GOOD!!!I have been walking for several years and can't walk a 15 min mile for very long stretches. Do you power walk? I may be a little older than you. I am 68 yrs. young. . I walk every night at the beach. It is a hard road oval (1/2 mile) of the beach. Last night we went to the pool at my sisters place and did exercises. Her friend used to be an instructor in water exercise. He is very commited to healthy living. I am glad you are doing so well
Hello to all our walking frieds. Joanne:wave:

Tazmani77 10-13-2001 09:07 AM

Hello everybody,
Just checking in to say Hi and have a wonderful day. I'm on my way out to walk since it is dry here for a change. I'm hoping to do 4 miles. I'll let you know how that comes out. I lost 2 pounds over the past week. YAAAAHOOOO!!!! :)

HAVE A GOOD DAY ALL!!!!!!

I'm doing the happy dance

Lynock 10-13-2001 09:35 AM

JoanneD, muscle pain, tenderness and/or weakness is one of the side effects. Along with blurred vision..or progressive need for stronger glasses(yeah like that doesn't happen anyways) Have you been on an antibiotic recently? Or even an antifungal? Taking Niacin? Here comes the BIG warning...progressive muscle weakness can lead to liver disfunction..have you had your enzymes tested lately. If you've been losing weight, do you really need to still be on Zocor? When is the last time you had your chol checked? There are no side effects (known)from stopping Zocor abruptley.(sp) I hate warning labels!!!:dizzy: Have lots of geri patients on Zocor...but they are unable or unwilling to exercise. Your doing all the right things...not to say that, that always helps. Liver produces what it will!!
Vivicar...good job!!!! It'll come off!! Just stick with it.
Getting my treadmill tomorrow..and not too soon. Suppose to rain for the next 3-4 days starting Sunday night!! Mom and Dad leave for Florida Sunday morning...looks like Dad brought the sunshine with him...and he's takiing it away...just like a father!!!
Well, have to get ready for a birthday party...I'm the Game Lady...that's what the kids call me. I do the games and prizes at all the kids parties....Lucky me...but it keeps me away from the food...!!!!!:^:
Good walking all!!

liz321 10-13-2001 01:55 PM

Good day......lost 0.6 lbs so down 41.8...just think how much I would be losing if I could get walking....what is my problem???Liz in Canada:(

Tazmani77 10-13-2001 03:19 PM

Liz: Quit settling for the scraps and the bone when you can have the whole steak. 0.6# is okay too, but I know you want more. So stop cheating yourself out of your goals and get out there and walk your little tooshie off.(and I mean that literally  )

mrschubby0 10-13-2001 05:32 PM

Tazmani77 10-13-2001 10:43 PM

Mschubby,
why don't you get into one of the buddy groups too. It can only help. Find one that is right for you and jump in with both feet. You sound like you could use some real support

Good luck!

Joanne D 10-14-2001 10:05 AM

Hi

.
Lynock- Thanks for the info. I have Bloodwork q3months. My Col. is down to 186. .I did look up Zocor and have many of the side effects. I see my dr the first week in Nov. and am thinking of telling him I no longer want to take it. My sister says 'just quit it'. I walked 4.5 miles last evening.
Mrschubby.. I for one do not give out my address on the computer. You are welcome here ...We always like new ideas and will try to support and lend advice. I have gained a lot of help here that I did not get in my WW group. Give us a try.
Liz- Come on :^: You can do this. Look at it as " one day at a time. " At the end of the week ,weigh your gains, and give your self a treat. Reward yourself for all your steps ahead. We are all in this together. Take your kids and go out for a 20 min. fun walk. Try to do it at the same time each day. Pull them in with your road to good health. They will be a help to you. They will in time look at it as a fun time too and inspire you. We are pulling for you:)
Tazamani-You are full of energy!! Good!! I like your little people. I don't know how to do that yet. I need to get my kids or my sister over here to show me. They are all so busy, I seldom hear too much from them.
You all have a great day. It is still in the 80s here in Florida. Sweating weather. ...Joanne:)

Tazmani77 10-14-2001 10:41 AM

Good morning everyone. For some reason I thought I was the oldest one here. You ladies all sound so youthful and healthy. When I heard you, Joanne say you were in your 60's I just had one thing come to mind. That is, that I want your determination and energy when I'm in my 60's too.

I got my 3 mile power walk in early and it's a good thing I did because it is raining again and I'm about sick of it now.

NO I DIDN"T GET THE TREADMILL YET. :( :(

My daughter is on her way over here to go with me to help me make a good choice. She told me she was too busy yesterday to help me find one. Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe today will end the treadmill saga. :)

Lynock 10-14-2001 07:39 PM

Hello all!!

My parents left for Florida this morning!! Boo Hoo:cry: But I did get the treadmill!!:smug: so I'm happy. esp since it's been cold, damp and drizzely for the last two days...and suppose to stay that way for the next 2-3. I've got to get the hang of walking on it...it has arms that swing when you walk, but I can't seem to manage that..when I try to use the arms...I can't walk!!:?: I'll figure it out eventualy.
Liz..don't get discouraged. For the past month..I've been losing .4, .5 .8.pounds per week...but it's coming off, and thats way better than going back on. I've slipped into some old habits the last few days....and then today..I was going through some old/big clothes...I just don't want to be that size again! The walking isn't my problem, it's snacking. I've purchased some low cal snacks...cause everybody said at the meetings..how good they are...they are...but not the whole bag at once! Now I know, why I just don't buy snack foods..if they are here..I will eat them. Better just not to have them!!
JoanneD, great milage....how many pairs of shoes do you go through??? You keep that up..4.5 miles...and you'll be transparent in no time!!
Keep on walking!!
 It's been a long weekend...talk to you all tomorrow.

Tazmani77 10-15-2001 08:12 AM

Good morning all,

Just stopped in to say hello. I'm on my way out ot walk.
THE TREADMILL SAGA CONTINUES............ I'll keep you posted

Have a good day people.

Joanne D 10-15-2001 09:30 AM

Hey

Lynock- My weight has been the same for almost 3 yrs. I have been trying real hard lately to lose a lousy few pounds and it is so hard. I bounce between 148-150- and can't seem to break it. I want to get to 140. If my tread ever kicks the bucket ,I want to get a Pro-form. Sears has some good ones. They are a reasonable price.I only walked 2 miles yesterday. I buy about one pair of shoes a year. They are patched rags when I finish with them.
Tazmani-Have a great healthy day.
Liz.. Michaela.. Hope you had a good weekend.
Joanne:wave:

liz321 10-15-2001 10:34 AM

Thanks for the support everyone....I know I am going to do it......I just have to put my mind to it......here is to a brand new week, a brand new attitude and a brand new me....have a good week one and all....you are all great inspirations to me!;)

Michaela 10-15-2001 02:14 PM

Just dropped in to say hi to everyone
I think that I am going to start counting calories again.A friend of mine that i spend alot of time with wants to lose 40 lbs.,so maybe we can keep each other motivated.
hi joanne

Tazmani77 10-16-2001 09:57 AM

Hi everybody,

THE TREADMILL SAGA IS AT A CLOSE!!!!

I BOUGHT THE TREADMILL!!!! It is a Pro-Form 755 CS
I got it at sears, it has all the bells and whistles and I can't wait to get it delivered. It will be here on Sat. I really wanted it to be delivered friday on my birthday but no such luck. I will get my money's worth out of this piece of equipment and thats for sure.

I'll check in a little later, I need to get going for now.

HAVE A GOOD ALL!!!

Joanne D 10-16-2001 09:57 AM

Hey

Liz- I know you are going to do this too. Don't think about it ,just do it. You will not be giving up anything, just doing things differently.
Hello Michaela- However you do it ,it should be the same results.. I counted calories on the WW eating plan and found they averaged out to around 1200 cal per day. That is concidered a losing plan. Go for it. Your friend and you can help each other a lot. Let us know how it works out.
Hello Tazmani- Lynock. How are you?
I walked 3.5 miles yesterday. That seems to be my limit.. My knees start hurting. I have already had one knee replacement.
See you all later...Joanne:angel:

Lynock 10-16-2001 03:38 PM

JoanneD, ooof I screen alot of patients whom have just had an ORIF in their knees. It's painful, but most say they are glad they got it, cause without it..they couldn't walk at all. but any surgery is scarey!! Here's to healthy knees. It's got to be alittle frustrating to be so close...and not get it off. Because I was in a little rut there...the nutrionitst I go to, suggested replacing at least on of my meals (either breakfast or lunch) with a liquid meal replacment, just to get me over the edge. I haven't done it cause, I dislike them, and I love to eat, and don't want to start losing on a liquid diet...then have problems switching back. But it may just be the push your looking for.
Good Luck on the treadmill Taz. I've used mine yesterday...it's harder on that then walking. I walk about 4 miles in the morning, with getting SOB, I did .5 miles on the tread...and my heart was pounding!!! It's hard!! I don't have to use the arms, and I don't, but it gives you a work out.

Tazmani77 10-17-2001 09:42 AM

Good morning all,

Just poped in to say Hi, I'm on my way out to walk now. It is dry out side and the sun is out. it is cold but I'll bundle up real good.

Hope everone has a good day!!

Lynock 10-18-2001 08:18 AM

Good chilly morning all!!! It's 34 degrees at 6:30am this morning. With all my layering, gloves, and earmuffs..didn't phase me. I enjoyed my walk this morning! As long as there isn't snow on the ground...I'll do fine! Weigh in last night...I gained .2 pounds...but I think I really stayed even...we'll find out next week. Last week, I had on a light t-shirt and shorts....this week, long pants, and a turtleneck...so I'm ok with that.
How is everyone? My husband and I are suppose to go to Niagra Falls at the end of the month. We are thinking of just staying home, and cleaning out the attic...so vacation vs. cleaning??? The attic really needs cleaning...and we never have the same days off, except Sundays..and we usually do something fun (not clean the attic) We have been living in the same house for 14 years...and most of the stuff in the attic, was moved there from our last place of 10 years...and has never been touched. I'd like to just throw it all out.....but my husband says he has important stuff!!! (he hasn't seen it in 14 years...but it's important..LOL)Any one else got a spouse that's a pack rack???
I actually did one mile on the treadmill yesterday. I have found a pace that I can breath/and no heart pound with. I'm sure it takes time to adapt to it. It is not the same as walking!!!
Good walking everyone

Vivica 10-18-2001 02:53 PM

Hi ladies

It is a little cooler in Florida these days. It is in the 50's and 60's nights and early morning. The afternoons are absolutely beautiful though. Currently it is sunny with a cool breeze and the temp. is 76. It is the perfect walking weather for me.

I've been getting some serious power walks lately. This morning I walked 4 1/2 miles. First thing this morning I walked my dog at her stop and sniff pace for 20 minutes. I considered that my warmup. I took her home and drove to the grass track I love to use. I walked 3 miles in 46 minutes and then 1 final mile much slower as a cooldown.

I use a heart rate monitor. It lets me know when I need to speed up my pace enough to burn fat, and when to slow down to keep from over exerting my heart. They sell them online for up to $300. They are probably more for professional athletes. I bought mine from AVON through their wellness catalog for about $70. Since then I've seen them at Wal-Mart for $40.

Joanne, I'm 32 years old. To break through the plateau you will have to shake up your routine a bit. Your body may be getting used to what you have been doing. You are apparently getting enough exercise to maintain your current weight. You will need to move your body in a different way to get it to drop more pounds. Try adding yoga, pilates, low impact aerobics, or light strength training to your current amount of walking for at least a month and see if that does the trick. Good luck.

My weight loss efforts are showing again. 2 more pounds gone since last Friday. I must be doing something right.

Take Care Everyone!

Lynock 10-19-2001 08:37 AM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAZZ!!!! And how are you going to celebrate? An extra walk? Some no pudge brownies? A new outfit? Celebrate!! I usually take myself somewhere nice..and spend time just for me. Like a massage!!! Yum

I threw away the rest of the lowfat snacks!!! Had too! Temptation is too great just to eat the whole bag. I do wish I had more control...but!! I hate to see anything go to waste!!

I've decided I like walking in the colder weather. My cheeks get so pink!! The walk feels much more relaxing...I'm walking at a faster pace..but I'm staying cool..no hot sweaty sticky...you all know.:o

I have a friend who is trying to get motivated to start walking...but she says she's always so tired when she gets home from work. Do you all find, that even if your "tired" from work, that you walk gives you more energy? On the days that I don't walk in the morning..I find I'm more tired. Is that weird..or do you all find that too?
good walking..chat with you all on Monday.

Vivica 10-20-2001 05:33 AM

Hi Lynn

Tell your friend that I work on my feet all day and work out immediately after work before sitting down or winding down every other day and the pounds are jumping off me. If I try to rest first, I may get lazy and skip the exercise. If I'm truly tired I go to the track anyway start out walking slowly and usually get motivated to move faster later. She doesn't have to run a marathon. Tell her to start with a very short walk and get used to fitting exercise into her day. She will gain endurance, speed, and energy as days go by. It is only 7 weeks into my plan, and now I just exercise out of habit. I haven't missed my exercise day in nearly a month now. I started out walking 1/4 miles slowly and now I walk 4miles, 3 of them quickly.

Once she exercises regularly she will gain energy. I am far more productive at work and at home since becoming more fit. Yes, I do get a burst of energy during and after working out tired. I am opposite of you on the other question. On days I exercise in the morning it takes me longer to recover than in the evenings.

Take Care

Tazmani77 10-20-2001 09:20 AM

Good morning,

Thanks Lynn for your wonderful birthday wishes. I did have a wonderful birthday and it was all about me. My kids made it a special day for me and I really loved that.
I know what you mean about the snacks. I can't have anything around that isn't on my food plan. It is just too much temptation for me to sabatoge myself.
I feel much better when I get my walk in everyday too. It just feels like something is missing all day long when I don't get to do it. once your friend jumps on the band wagon there'll be no stopping her. Keep encouraging her and leading by examlpe. she join in.

My treadmill comes today............OH BOY!!!!

I'm getting a personal trainer on Monday. Between the two of them and my food plan by my birthday next year I should be in the shape and size I want to be. Fingers crossed as we speak. :)

Well I'm on my way out to walk, so I'll talk to you all later.
Have a good day.

Joanne D 10-22-2001 09:06 AM

Hey There

Vivica- Where are you at in Central Fl.?? I live in Tarpon Springs. We could be neighbors.
Tazz- I have been in North Fl. for a few days and so much has happened. You had a birthday.. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!Birthdays are always special.
Lynock- Now I have to get back into my routine! It has been a fat weekend. My G/Daughter turned 20. I am like everyone else.Control means out of sight for me too.
I hope you girls enjoy your treadmils. My son just bought a new fancy one. Mine is old but still works . I use it when I can't walk outside.
Got to get busy. Talk to you all later..Joanne:wave:

liz321 10-22-2001 10:04 AM

Hey gals! Snow on the ground here in Canada....now I really have an excuse for not walking:lol: I haven't lost hope.......anyhow have a good week everyone! liz

Michaela 10-22-2001 10:30 AM

Good morning everyone
It is time for me to get seroius. The last couple of days have been pretty good but they could have been better.
I hope everyone has a great day.

Lynock 10-22-2001 03:13 PM

You have to love New England!!!:dizzy: Last Friday when I as walking..it was cold enough to snow...Yesterday it was 74 out, and will be in the 80's by Wednesday..but will cool down a bit for the weekend low 70's...shessss!! :smug:
JoanneD...love that "fat weekend" as a description!!! I find I have real control during the week, and the weekends...can only be described as your "fat weekends". but this weekend I was in control. I know I'm going out with friends on Wednesday night...so I'm not having a problem sticking to the program this week. I've also seen that I'm walking whenever I get a chance..and not using the car!!! They are on program too, and Wednesday is weigh in...so we are going to go out after. I have a gift cert. that was given to me by my boss for my birthday in June....haven't used it as it's for 50 dollars...thats a lot of food at this Italian rest. So the four of us are going to us it...what ever is over they all can pay!!
Liz...snow isn't an excuse...it's a reason!!! How about some tapes? In my neighborhood (city) we have to shovel off our sidewalks or get fined. So the first day after snow...I'm not expecting to be able towalk...but after that..it should be ok.
Micheala...another day...another new start!! You are too serious...you sound like your beating yourself up!! One of the girls at WW started kick boxing as her exercise...she loves it...she gets to kick a dummy....hey an idea!! Now where is that husband!!!
Good walking all!!
:D

Joanne D 10-24-2001 09:34 AM

Hey There

Lynock- Kick boxing huh! There are times I could use my hubby as the dummy. I probably would throw my back out. I have been trying to get back on target. At least I am still at high goal.
Liz- I thought all you guys who lived in the snow countries were experts at walking in the snow? No excuses now.. Set a goal till the end of the year.
Michaela- I agree ,it is time to get busy.. I just don't know what else I can do. I walk 3 miles every evening and never seem to stop for a minute during the day. I write down everything I eat and slip only once in a while. Any ideas?
Hello Taz- did you get on the tread and forget to get off?
Hello Vivica.. Where are you...
Bye You All...Joanne:wave:

liz321 10-24-2001 11:12 PM

Cut me some slack....first snow fall always throws us:lol: Been busy for sure, haven't sat for more than a couple moments in the past several days...looked over my points, wentdown in points 3 lbs ago and haven't changed my eating enough, thinked I figured out why I have been at such a stand still.....we will see what a difference it makes..........also have been struggling with a cold and haven't felt much like drinking water but still managing about 1500 mls of water. Anyhow I shall carry on, keep on keeping on everybody:smug: Thanks for the support and the occassional kick in the butt:^: Liz in Canada
