Thanks for all the support in this thread. DicedTea - much respect for running outside: I am stuck on the treadmill as my knees protest too much outside.

Smith1313 and can'tgetenoughchoc, I've dropped the speed and that's helped loads with the duration of the running. Not sure about the wobble but that'll hopefully improve. Today I went to the gym just to see if I could survive three minutes of a continual jog and managed FOUR without dying. So next week, I'll start the third week of C25K. Excellent.

YEA!!! great job at the gym!!

Kudos to you for running outside, too muggy and my knees and ankles would protest loudly. I'm getting old : (

I've slacked on the treadmill the last few days but September is my cardio/tone month when in which that is my main focus....I"m popping back upon the treadmill!!

Glad to hear that crazycatwoman (Kind of feels rude of me to call you that ha ha)!

I did Week 5 day 1 yesterday... it went really well! I had the TV on at the gym and it was BRILLIANT! I found it kind of easy too! I have to do two 8 minute jogs on Monday though so that'll be tough!

Everyone tells me that they enjoy running outside, but the tiny bit I did got me out of breath! Is it much harder or am I being a wuss? Will it be hard to run outside after the 9 weeks of running in the gym?

Also... I've read conflicting things on the internet... does running slim down your thighs and calves or make them bigger?

Wow - can'tgetenoughchoc (which feels a bit rude to me too!) week 5 day 1 *envy*!

I managed week 3 day 1 today, on the treadmill. What really helped was covering the machine's display (except the speed) and also listening to podrunner interval mixes - they are fantastic. I wasn't able to focus on the 'how much longer do I have to go' digits!

I am not going near the great outdoors until I am well below 100kg as my knees took ages to heal up after my last attempt on asphalt. Apparently using a gradient of 1% (but not much higher) on a treadmill makes the experience a bit more 'realistic'.

Let's keep on running!

Yea I know, I hate looking at that timer! I normally make myself wait a whole song on my ipod before looking down, because at least then I know I'll only have 90 seconds left tops! (In my 5 minute intervals). I guess tomorrow for my 8 minute intervals I'll have to wait for two songs! *sobs* I should be getting a new ipod soon though so I can use the app instead! I'll need it for the 20 minute jogs :/

I heard something about that gradient thing. I might try it... maybe... :P

Starting week 6 tomorrow.....makes me nervous with just one minute walk in-between the long jogs!

Smith1313, how did Week 5 day 3 go!? I have that on Wednesday. Did you slow down for it? I've heard that's the trick. I've just got back from the gym from doing week 5 day 2. It was so hard! I put the incline onto 1% (thanks for making it harder for me, crazycatwoman :P ) and the first 8 mins was fine! I was so cocky. But then the second one started... half way through I wanted to give up. But I knew if I did then I really wasn't going to be able to do week 5 day 3... so I carried on. I'm still dreading wednesdays though. Please say it wasn't too hard!

You guys ROCK! I'm quaking away at week 3 and you are talking so enthusiastically about all that pain I am going to face I thinki each week will maybe last 20 days for me at this stage!!!

1% incline is meant to mimic outdoor conditions better. Sorry Cantgetenoughchoc - it is supposed to make the leap to the great outdoors easier.

smith1313 - 12 minutes? I thought week 6 day 1 was 5 jog, 3 walk, 8 jog , 3 walk 5 jog?

crazycatwoman - Ha ha only joking. I'm glad I tried the 1% incline. It wasn't too bad. I was late for work today so ran down the hill to my work. I was so out of breath after about 30 seconds. And it was downhill! i don't understand! Crazyness :P

A thought for all you c25k peeps. I did C25K last year started at over 300lb. did my first timed 5k outside July 2012 in 39:00.

This May did my first ever 10k 1hr 14. then 2 more in the same week.

This summer i've taken my 5k pb down to 29:50 and my 10k pb down to 66:33.

This Sunday only 4 months after making the step up to 10k from 5k I took part in my first ever Half Marathon. 2hr 27m 59s. didn't walk once, (jogging got really slow at one point but i never stopped)

I'm planning my next half end of September and then one at the end of October.

This was all possible from barely being able to do day 1 w1 in March 2012. The program works, you put in sweat and tears you get out results. But the program is only the beginning its not about getting to week 9. its about finishing week 9 and thinking now i am a runner whats next.

Slimmingsi - thank you! This is inspirational. To know others have done this motivates me no end. May I ask how your knees coped with outside running especially ?

Doing good! Still on week 3 but today I got on the treadmill to see how long I could jog for. At a pace of 4.25 mph I went for 6 minutes. I'd not eaten much beforehand having forgotten to take my lunch to work, so I guess i could go for longer if I wanted.

Back to the intervals tomorrow.
