it was weird b/c I was like sooo many others thinking that yoga would be too easy to make me lose weight...but as I got into the DVD...the beginners 35 minute workout mind you!- I was thinking oh my I'm really starting to sweat! and this is hard!!
I felt the endorphins after just as if I had done 40 minutes on treadmill!!
I am going to see if I can borrow my sisters eliptical machine for a few weeks, too.
I will regret saying this...but I think I actually might enjoy this exercise thing!! Huh???

I hear that a treadmill is better at burning calories and fat then an eliptical machine, just might want to research that one. After a while you will need to exercise, you just feel strange when you don't.

I just get bored really easily, so I think if I can jump on the eliptical while watching TV...and then do a few other types of exercise...yoga, walking, etc...regularly I will get an optimal amount of exercise...

Actually, I found it to be the other way around. On Friday I did both machines, The Treadmill and the elliptical for 30 minutes each. I went twice the distance and burned twice the calories on the Elliptical and was pouring sweat within the first 10 minutes. I've never liked the Elliptical, in fact, I think it's from The debbil, but I DO like that I can get twice the workout in the same amount of time as I do on the TM and it was also easier on my hips. I'm thinking about asking The Tax man for one come February. ;)

Hmm interesting I guess it's true everyone is different, I got that information about calories and fat burning from 3 different studies that were done. But if someone has joint problems then Elliptical or Stationary Bike is the way to go. Do you wear a body bug or HRM to determine the calories you have burned. I have neither I just use an online site to give me an estimate, but since everyone is different I don't put much stock in it. I understand from trainers HRM is probably the best way to go, because sweating doesn't really tell you anything, if it were so I would be as thin as a string bean. I really want to get one, which do you have?

borntobefine 09-01-2009 04:37 AM

Finished W5D3 - ran for 23 minutes nonstop.
Did 10 minutes on the Arc Trainer and 17 minutes on the bike at level 2.
I did not want to go to the gym because I felt so low on energy but you folks are so motivating I just had to give it a shot. Thanks!!

pintobean 09-01-2009 08:33 AM

Morning girls :sunny:

Yesterday - Weight Training only

Today - Treadmill and Ab RipperX

Thanks IgetfitNStrongforme and everyone :)

I have used both an Elliptical and a Treadmill. I did not like the elliptical at all. It did hurt my knee (I do have knee problem) and just didn't feel something I wanted to do. Everyone's body is different it seems. I prefer a treadmill for a good overall cardio workout. Calories burned depends on weight/height/age etc. and what the machines say I don't quite take it seriously especially the ones in the gym cuz of extended use and bad caliberation. Also, some of the machines don't take into account age/height/stride etc when they calculate the calories burned. I do use both Sensewear (similar to bodybugg) and HRM now and even though it tells me how many calories I burn I use it as an estimate only. What can I say, I'm gadget obsessed :D . I do watch TV/movie while running on my tready, music alone does not cut it for me. If I run on the track, then I have to listen to music.
Com'on girls!! Long weekend is almost here. Let's kick it up a notch!! :exercise:

pintobean 09-01-2009 09:25 AM

BTW where's Echo? Haven't seen her around.

Diva 09-01-2009 09:43 AM

I was wondering about Echo as well. I hope she's okay.

Narnia99 09-01-2009 12:53 PM

Hi everyone :)
We just got back from our little vacation and I am ready to get back to my workouts again. I only ended up taking two days off as I got up really early on the day we left and did a cardio and weight workout.
This week my workouts will be all cardio as it's my rest week from STS before I start the last mesocycle of the series.
Today I plan on doing 36 minutes on the Stairmaster and an ab workout.

I was able to read through some of the posts I missed, and I must say everyone is doing a fantastic job :bravo: :cp: :cheer2: :cheer: :cheer3:

Onederchic 09-01-2009 01:02 PM

Here's one of the articles:

http://blog.nutritiondata.com/dietin...ill-vs-el.html

But since your hip hurts the Elliptical, magnetic recumberment bike and swimming is the way to go.

WSChick 09-01-2009 06:32 PM

Congrats girls, keep it going :)

September:
1:
40 mins Pilates, S.I.6 Start it up video, 30 mins high intensity dance, 100 crunches and light weights (10 lbs.)

Plus, I'm going to try and get my walking and C25K done this evening but because of this ash and smoke in the air and it being 105 degrees I don't know if it'll happen. I haven't been able to get outside the past few days :(

Onederchic 09-01-2009 06:42 PM

Woohoo ladies! :cheer2:

IgetfitNStrongforme 09-01-2009 07:34 PM

Woohoo, everyone is kicking butt in this heat!

I just finished my 2nd 45 minute :ebike: exercise session and will begin my last one in 30 minutes. :carrot:
