Lauri! Is there another Jen that posts here or were you talking about me??? I'd be flattered to think that someone would mention me after I've been gone so long.

I've not had much time at the computer. I've been pretty busy with the kids, especially since school is out now.

I've also gone way off track with the diet and exercise. I got so sick of doing all the work and not seeing results that I just gave it up. But now I am desperate. I am gaining SO much weight. I'm not diving right back into the heavy exercise. I'm going to fast for a while. It kind of helps me get over the hunger and the cravings and makes it easier to start with a "clean slate" so to speak. Then I will gradually add back more calories, and at the same time increase the activity starting with walking. I've been looking at the diets of people after bariatric surgery and that's what I'm basing my diet on. Liquid fasting for a couple of weeks, then adding small amounts of food and exercise, then raising both a little at a time. I figure if it's OK for people after they've had surgery, then it's OK for me. I'm just skipping the surgery part.

I'll try to pop in again later. Hope everyone is doing great!

(((((((((((((((((JEN!!!)))))))))))))))))) We have missed you!!!
How's your hubby doing? Is he still in the US of A?
I was worried about you some, I know how it is (having been a military wife for almost 22 yrs) to be the mom AND the dad and all that other stuff. Sometimes it just gets old and you need a break for some adult conversation.
Anyhow, thanks Patty for the good words!! You are so sweet!

Yesterday some drug rep brought in some Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which I frankly don't think are all that wonderful. We jsut can't get them in Cheyenne yet. Anywho I set the box behind us and was offered one and I said no thanks. That's ALL I said. And someone else said "geez, one doughnut isn't gonna kill you."
(they know I'm low carb now, but clearly that is all they know LOL)
And then someone else (who is overweight) said she could never do the atlkins diet because she loves bread and potatoes. I am not out to recruit the world for cheese sakes. I just care about how *I* look and about how *I* feel about myself.

Patty, to answer your Q: I am following the Induction Phase of the Atkins diet which means no more than 20 g of carbs for me a day. My friend in Indy has been on it since Jan 1 and has gone frm 214 to 172 so far. We've been friends since 1974 (9th grade LOL) and I can remember her trying WW in high school! she wasn't quite as heavy back then, but she still struggled with it.
I got some tips from her and checked Dr A;s book and cookbook out of the library, they also have a web site.

Gotta run! I am up early today. Working my caboose off this week and next. Tonight I have a going away party on Base, but it's a BBq so I can have hamburger patties and cheese. mmm mmm ;-)

SEMO, I read or heard somewhere that the term Hoosier (which means a person from Indiana to me) means something entirely different in MO LOL!!!
You all have a good day!! And I hope you all are as motivated by our little support group as I am.

Mornin'!

Lauri: For sure it is hard to be the military wife, and I'm sure it will get harder. I'm still new at this. My DH is now at Sheppard AFB in Texas for training. He will be home for 2 weeks in August, and then he will go to his first duty assignment, and hopefully we won't be too far behind. I'm kinda freaked out because what we do know is that the first duty assignment will be overseas, and I haven't been anywhere but Idaho for the past 24 years. I do know that Hawaii is included as an overseas destination, so keep your fingers crossed for me . Actually, we'll be happy with anything as long as it isn't Korea, cuz we can't go with him there and we wouldn't see him for another year and I would REALLY have a hard time coping with that.

Anyhoo, I wasn't going to start my new program until Saturday, because my son's birthday is Friday and I didn't think I could stay out of the cake. But I decided enough is enough and I started today. Have been doing a lot of reading about VLCD (very low calorie diets) and about post bariatric surgery diets and feel that I can do this safely on my own. I have to give it a shot. Lord knows I've tried everything else. I'll let you know how it goes. Got to go. I'm taking the kids rollerblading today. Talk at ya later,
Jen

Hello Ladies

It's good to hear from you Jen... we were all wondering about you. Sorry to hear you been having a rough time of exercising & dieting. But like you said your back on track & whatever program your on we're here to support you. Your hubby is out my way. We'll I think he still a couple of hours away. Sheppard is in Abilene right?

Lauri - I think I might get the book and have a look at it. I am always craving carbs & I always seem to be tired. I know I probably don't eat enough protein in a day. To me all this diet stuff is so confusing. I had thought about drinking a protein drink like Met-rx or similar, then I read that that is probably to much protein for 1 meal... (I'm so confused

Semo, Mooz & Spkrleyes37 - Hope you all are having a great day..

Hi Chicks!! Just a quick call. I am posting the following 'In Control' Tid Bit for myself too as well as you gals because I have been out of control today and I am feeling miserable for it too. I need to get a grip because my son graduates from university in July and I have to look good for the big day!! So I need motivated!!
I am also worried about him as he has Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris - a skin complaint. He has had it for about 7 years now. He has got offered a good job in London but he is just about to start PUVA treatment for his skin. If he goes to London he will not be able to get the treatment but then I also think the treatment can be dangerous too!! Anyway I need to get in control of my eating because I cannot control these other things!! Thanks for listening girls!! - it helps to talk.

Jen - great to hear from you again.

IN CONTROL

Though you have some control over things outside yourself, the most powerful and important control you have is over your own thoughts and actions. Indeed, it is through self-control that your greatest possibilities can be realized.
People will attempt to tell you that you have no choice, that when certain things happen you must react in a certain way. But you most certainly do have a choice. You do not have to be a victim of circumstance, no matter what that circumstance may be. You can choose the way you respond, and you can take control of your circumstances by being in control of yourself.

Imagine all the things you could accomplish if you had a servant who obeyed your every command. The fact is, you do have such a servant and it is you. So what are you commanding yourself to do? How are you controlling the powerful and valuable force that is your life?

When you attempt to control others, they will resist you. Yet when you focus on controlling your own thoughts and actions, the positive possibilities are unlimited. You have within your complete control someone who is capable of many great things -- you. Use that control wisely and it can take you wherever you desire to go.

-- Ralph Marston

Good Afternoon

It's so hard to get back on track. Last night I worked in the yard and didn't eat dinner, then about 9:30pm... I got hungary... so what did I do? Ate some ice cream (lowfat of course)... I get so mad at myself... I can never seem to get past the 5 lb loss mark...
Anway I"m OP today and barely drinking my water...

Mooz - Your right, there are so many things we can't control, but eating is one of them. Will say a prayer for you and your son. Can he not get the treatment in London? Are you still walking & linedancing?

Semo, Lauri, Spkrleyes37 & jen - Hope you all are having a great day...

Remember why

Whenever anything seems too difficult, tedious or uncomfortable, stop for a moment and remember. Stop for a moment and remember why you're doing it in the first place.
When there's a meaningful reason for what you're doing, then you can summon the motivation and the energy to get it done. Connect yourself with that reason, and allow it to push you forward. You have a very real stake in the outcome of your own efforts because you've chosen to make those efforts for a reason. Be sure to keep yourself connected to what that reason is.

Discipline, persistence, commitment and effectiveness cannot exist in a vacuum. They need a real and meaningful reason, a driving purpose, in order to thrive.

Whenever something starts to get you down, challenge yourself to remember why you're doing it. Remember why, and move ahead with a fresh, powerful, renewed sense of purpose. Remember why, and you'll have what it takes to get it done.

-- Ralph Marston

GOODDAY CHICKS!!

The weather is wet here today. I walked 3 miles lastnight and went linedancing for 2 hours.

Patty - my son probably could get the treatment in London but it takes so long to get him transferred over to a different skin dept. I am just as happy that he doesn't get the therapy as there are risks with it. We are trying to sort it out with alternative methods which will not be harmful to him.

To everyone else have a good OP day.

Take Care All

Good Morning Everyone! I can't believe it's Friday again already. Well as you may have guessed I did have to stay as a juror and then yesterday we were having some computer problems here at work. I did meet my goal on the exercise and I challenge everyone to a min of five hours of exercise by next Friday! Come on Patty! (maybe this will help)

Hubby did not get the promotion that he had applied for and he is taking it quite hard. Not so much that he didn't get it but the fact that he was lied to. To make a long story short, he had applied for this position before and they called him and said that there was a person already working for them that they could not overlook and asked him to apply for the job he now has. By taking the lesser position it would put him as a full time employee and there would be another opening in a few months (which was the one he just applied for) well it was between him and a temp employee that had re-hire status and you guessed it... he got dumped on. I am so dissapointed for him and do not understand how some people can sleep at night. Not only did he take a pay cut but it is also is a 40 mile drive to where he works. I'm truly hoping that something wonderful will come through for him. Okay, I just had to get this off my chest as I don't normally discuss my personal life here at work. You know, small town.

Mooz, sure hope everything turns out for the best with your son.

Jen, we missed ya kid-o.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and will talk to you later.

Good Afternoon Ladies

Semo - I will take you up on the challenge. Looking at my calendar for next week, I have no obsticles(sp) in my way. I do much better if I get up in the AM and exercise. My sister suggested that I record a 30 min tv program, then watch it on the dreadmill...
I'm so sorry to hear that your hubby didn't get the job. I too wonder how some people can sleep at night, much less look you in the eye. I will keep you all in my prayers...

Mooz - Glad to hear you got your walking in & linedancing. I too prefer to try something holstic before I put all kinds of drugs in me.

I'm glad it friday. I thought I had company(cousins) coming in town this weekend, but there plans changed. So this weekend i'm going to go grocery shopping & get some walking in. My vacation is coming up 2 weeks and I was hoping to lose 5 lbs. I bettter get on the ball...

Hope everyone has a great day...

Good Morning Girls:

I am up early and going to walk as soon as it gets daylight. I weighed in yesterday and lost 1 1/2 pds last week. Nothing exciting going on in my life except Grandaughter is graduating from High School. Happy Fathers Day to all your Husbands.

SEMO: Sorry to hear about your Husband not getting the job he wanted. It is very hard on them. I remember my husband going through that. Maybe something better is waiting in the future for him. The Lord works in many ways.

The weather in Calif. has been in the 80's that is why I walk in the early morning.

Mooz: Hang in there. When all is not right with our children it worrries a Mother to death. I will say a prayer for your son. I am a mother hen to three chicks and they keep me running even though they are grown and have famlies of there own. Norma

GOOD MORNING CHICKS!!

It was quiet in here yesterday!!

Just a short visit to leave you the following Tid Bit which I thought was good!!

I WILL

"I hope" is very positive, and yet "I will" is even more so. "I might" gets you facing in the right direction, while "I will" takes you all the way there. "I'd like to" helps you set your goals, and "I will" makes them happen. "I should" is good at nagging, yet "I will" is the master of achievement.
The words you use influence the thoughts you think and the actions you take. And the words "I will" are two of the best you'll find when it comes to expressing, sealing and maintaining you commitment. Though words alone will not make it happen, the most positive, confident words will indeed make a difference in what does happen. A constant attitude of "I will" will always outperform an attitude of "I wish."

"I will" is clear and unambiguous. It puts the power of solid intention to work for you. At any given moment, you're filled with energy that can make things happen, energy in search of a purpose. Saying "I will," with sincerity and confidence, directs that energy precisely where you want it to go.

-- Ralph Marston

Good Morning All

Sorry I did not post this past weekend, it was a busy weekend. My parents live about 20 min away and so do two of my sisters. We got together at my parents house & my brother inlaw & dad Bar-b-que. I'm going on vacation in two weeks to New Mexico, so I had lots of things to get ready for, you know how it is... vacation = new cloths... I"m kenneling my dog, so we had to go visit the vet.

Semo - I'm up for your goal.. so let's get going...

Mooz - How did Ireland do? This morning I woke up and heard that US beat Mexico... I was really surprised at that. Now I hear we play Germany on Friday.

Spkrleyes37 - Way to go on your 1 1/2 loss... YOU GO GIRL...

Happy Monday Morning to all. Hope everyone had a restful weekend. Mine must have been because I didn't get much else accomplished.

I'm just having a hard time getting myself under control. Start out great but end up sabotaging myself. I know I've done this many times and then something just clicks and I'm off again. Just having a hard time getting anything to click, if you know what I mean.

Okay I'm off, glad to see I had some take-ers on the challenge. Chat later.

Good Morning:
IDay Where in Mexico are you going? I Love going to Mexico.
The music is happy and the people are fun. I know what you mean new clothes. It ticks my DH off when I go shopping for a vacation. I always have the suitcase that weighs the most.

Semo. When I walked this morning I thought of your challange I was a BAD DIETER this weekend. With the Fathers Day party cake and snacks and a dinner that was the dieters worst emeny.
Wednesday my Grandaughter graduates and there is another dinner and big party. I have made a deal with myself to be good and staty OP. I am going to put a rubber band around my wrist and every time I reach for something I should not have I will snap my wrist. Maybe that will remind me or I will have no wrist left by the time the evening is over.

The weather here is HOT HOT. You all take care
