Hi I am new here and I just found this info and I think I am ready to try this out. I have been walking 3-4 times a week since the end of Nov and I love it but I find that I am looking for a little more now.

So I am off to buy some new shoes and a better sports bra.

Ugh. I made it to W4D3 but then I took two weeks off and now I really don't want to jump back into it but I really should...

Guess what??? Last night I actually ran a full 5k!!! It took me 20 weeks to do it, not 9, but hey, I did it, right? Not as fast as I would have liked -- 44 minutes -- but I'm feeling good about it.

Viatre - I did that also. Did two days of Week 4 then got sick and took two weeks off. Did Day 1 again then Christmas and NY got in the way - two more weeks off.

But I jumped right back into Week 4 as soon as I could and it was OK.

Paperclippy - WTG!!!! You are awesome!! I'll be there in another few weeks!!

I started Week 6 yesterday, which was pretty good.

Well, I have just completed W6D3 - a 25 minute nonstop run!!! Yay!! It was hard on the way back, I kept wanting to stop more than anything - but I kept going. No more intervals now - it's just long runs from here on in.

Well, I went out and did Week 7 Day 1 today and for the first time I found myself thinking "Why am I doing this?" I found it hard going today - it had been three days since I last ran, and although it wasn't too cold and the weather was sunny, it was windy and it was hard running onto the wind on the way out, and hard running back as I was tired.

However I did do it and I measured in the car on the way home that my entire distance was 3.4 miles, including the 5 min walk at each end. Now assuming a walking pace of 3.5 mph, that means I walked 0.6 miles so I ran 2.8 in 25 minutes, which is a fair old pace - 6.72 mph. I have always done the C25K off time and not distance and never really thought about how far I was actually running. But I am running further than they say to run, so I must be doing well.

So, why am I doing this?

To get fit
To tone my muscles up
To firm up the flabby bits
To boost my metabolism so I will be less likely to get fat again
To make it easier to lose that last (being honest here) 10 lb that I could do with losing to get me properly slim, with no baby belly.

Give me some more reasons guys!

i'm just starting today... a little nervous, mostly because i haven't been able to motivate myself to exercise at ALL in the last year. i'm hoping that building up to a 5k will help me stay on track because it's something to aim for.. i'm going to try to sign up to do an organized 5k run. how do you all stay motivated to get out and run when the weather is bad??

Well, if it's only cold it's not so bad - you can wrap up against the cold, wear scarf and gloves and winter weight running gear. A bit of wind is OK - run against the wind on the way out and you have it behind you on the way back.

I'll run if it's only drizzly, but I don't go out in heavy rain/wind/snow etc. I just stay inside and look at it.

However, we've been quite lucky with the weather here this winter, it has only stopped me from running on a couple of occasions.

I have really enjoyed doing the C25K - I was never an exerciser either, but the achievement of going from so completely NOT a runner, barely managing a minute, to being able to run for 25 minutes without stopping in only a few weeks is a HUGE boost psychologically.

I'm on W3D2; so far so good. I've been doing it on the treadmill but once I am doing the 5K I look forward to doing my runs outside.

I admire ALL of you that have completed the program and are now runners/joggers. I look forward to getting there myself. My DH has always been a runner and once he gets a little more weight off I would love for us to run together.

W2D1 completed. Still very easy, but that's a good thing.. Anyway I had to take it very slow because the roads was full of ice.. Hoping for better weather tomorrow when I'll do W2D2 .

I did W4D1 on Monday and was amazed that I was able to run five minutes straight. I almost stopped at 3.5 minutes on the second round but I made it!!!

Getting ready to do W4D2 now.... wish me luck.

Question for those that are doing this on the treadmill what are your settings? Currently I am doing my walk at 3.8 and run at 4.5. I figure once I complete the program I can work on my speed. At this point I find it VERY hard to believe that I will EVER be able to run a 5K in 30 minutes.
