Funny that you said that. When I wrote it this morning, I was thinking that I might could do a carnivore diet for a few days if I didn't have to cook once a day for DH. In fact, that is probably why I have a difficult time doing EF.

pattygirl63 04-11-2022 06:20 PM

I got to the part of the P:E Diet book that tells us how much protein to eat. Women figure their normal weight for their weight should be which is determined by height. I am 5'1" now so that would 105 lbs so that is how many grams of protein I'm allowed to eat each day. Carbs should be half that which would 50 grams and the rest is fat. I figured it as close as possible on MFP.

Funny when I eat, I start with a salad. He says start with the meat/protein and then eat the veggies and then carbs if you are eating them. He also seems to think that a carnivore diet is good. He says that no one becomes a diabetic eating meat. He has a section on how to do the P:E Diet as a vegan but he says it is very easy to eat the wrong foods as a vegan.

Wannabehealthy 04-11-2022 08:19 PM

Trish, most people eat salad or soup first and that's how you,are served in a restaurant or banquet. My step son isn't carnivore but when I cooked I never served salad. But my step son would put his meat on his plate and not put anything else on his plate until he ate his meat. He is a big meat eater and so is my son-in-law.

Now that DH had issues with his blood pressure he said he doesn't want to eat ham for Easter. I don't know what to do. When I made the turkey breast on Christmas he wouldn't eat it. Also, we are going to his daughters on Easter and she is cooking ham. He would not go to Bob Evans because he didn't want a lot of sodium but he got McDonalds. I guess he thinks they don't have sodium.

I can't find the horseradish in a jar that I use for beet horseradish so we might not have it for Easter. I have one more store to check tomorrow.

I slept good but not long enough. I woke up early so I got up.

For some reason I've been hungry when I get up in the morning. I don't want to break my fasting habit but I'm absolutely starving! That used to happen when I was eating at night but I'm not doing that. I wish I could change DHs eating. He is now living on things like pancakes, macaroni and doughnuts. I am trying so hard to stay low carb for my blood sugar but he's making it so difficult.

One good thing. I was craving sugar yesterday so I ate a couple gumdrops. I know, I gave that up for Lent. I'm sorry. They tasted terrible. A chemical taste. I used to love them. I told DH that they were terrible and maybe they were a different brand. He said No, they were the same to him and he likes them. I sure hope not eating sugar all these weeks has changed my taste for them. I hope I never go back to eating them. I bought Reece's Peanut Butter Eggs for DGS and DH ate them. He just said Buy more. So I did. I guess I shouldn't be encouraging DGS to eat candy but Peanut Butter Cups are the only candy he likes. They very rarely have sweets in their house.

Mad, thinking about your kitchen redo. When we put in new cabinets DH and his brother installed them. They wrote their names and the date on the wall behind them. I took pictures of myself standing in front of the new cabinets and they slid them behind the upper cabinets before putting the trim up. Whoever tears the cabinets out some day will know the date they were installed and see pictures of what they looked like new.

I'm the only one here today. We went to another store this morning and they had the jars of horseradish. Yay. That was the last chance. We also got a ham. We were going to get a half but the half ham was 30 cents more per pound. We got the smallest whole ham they had for only $2 more than the half. I can freeze what we don't eat.

I just saw the little boy next door who has leukemia. He is pale, still going through treatment. Still praying for the sweet little boy.

I can't believe that my day was so busy that I never got around to posting here till now. DH called early and we talked. Then I read my Bible devotional, printed out my Amazon statement so I could mail them a check on the way to the store and by the time I had all that done, DH was up and ready to go. It has been one of those days.

Carol Sue, I love reading how your DH thinks with his eating. I think it is so funny how these men think. I thought about getting a ham but decided not to. It does have a lot of sodium which I might could have now, but not sure so didn't buy it. I actually wanted a pork roast but didn't like what I saw at Walmart. Actually, I thought we were going to Sam's and then go across the highway to the local HEB store, but DH thought we were going to the one closest to us. We have to pass Walmart on the way to the store closest to us, so we ended up just going to Walmart.

Sam's was out of a lot of almost everything on my list. I only like the cod fish fillets from Sam's and they only had breaded. I didn't want those. They are remodeling the store and even if and when they have some of what we want, we have no idea where it is and only find it if we stumble up on it.

Weight this morning was back down to 182.6. We ended up getting fried chicken from a different place since we decided no KFC anymore. I didn't like it either so probably won't buy it again plus they were out of what we wanted. I got home and I don't know what they bread it with, but it was very pricey calorie wise. I came home and made a salad and heated up some green peas to go with it. I will have my protein shake in a bit and if I can trust MFP, I will still end up with less than 1400 calories and net carbs grams of 44 within a 4 hr eating window.

I told DH today that I think I should start eating low carb, low fat, high protein diet. He said that when I buy milk again for me to buy 1% milk. He said he could drink 1% but skim milk is too watered down. We have 2% right now.

Wannabehealthy 04-12-2022 08:25 PM

Trish, I knew you would get a kick out of DHs thoughts about food. We are complete opposite. His brother is even worse than him. His brother says he cannot eat meat or vegetables, but he lives on pretzels and baked goods. We went to a funeral and they had a catered luncheon after the funeral with sandwiches and sides. His brother said he can't eat that food and brought out Little Debby snack cakes that he had in his pocket. Another time at a wedding he only ate cookies. He said if he eats regular food he gets constipated for days. I don't understand how his body functions without any nutrition at all.

DH usually buys 1% milk but gets 2% if the date is better. He used whole milk until he had his heart attack. Back then they told him to use fat free. I gradually bought lower and lower fat until we were using skim. One time he bought whole milk by mistake and thought it was spoiled. Now they say fat is ok but he is used to lower fat.

pattygirl63 04-13-2022 12:09 PM

Weight stayed the same after having the fried chicken yesterday. I think drinking the protein shake for supper may have helped with that. Today I am going to get my hair cut and then DH wants LJS fish since I will be close to it. Wasn't sure I wanted to get that but he wants it so I will get it. At least, I will be able to make a salad and maybe in have broccoli with it. We usually just throw something together when we get it, but since he won't be up when I come back, I will have time to put healthy foods with it.

BBL

Wannabehealthy 04-13-2022 02:19 PM

Trish, I still have 3 protein shakes. I wonder if they are still good. I wish we still had LJS here.

I have my food tracked for the day. 1024 calories with 84 carbs. Higher carbs than I wanted.

pattygirl63 04-13-2022 03:21 PM

Carol Sue, If you have Premier Protein shakes, there is a date on the top left corner of the container that has a date on it. I assume that is the expiration date.

My calories today will be 1314 and net carbs 58 grams. I like for the protein to be higher but it won't be today unless I decided to have another shake or some other form of protein to eat. However, going by Dr. Berg says 65 g of protein is the least amount I should eat each day and I at this point, I have this much planned for today. I also hope to make this a 2MD within 5 hr eating window. I managed to eat 2 meals yesterday between 4 hrs and I didn't eat breakfast/brunch. I am doing the same thing today except within 5 hrs.

I feel good with my hair cut and I still have a lot of curl. I really enjoyed visiting with my beautician friend of so many years. It had been only 6 weeks since we did my perm but seemed longer. She is working in her salon she has set up in the little town she lives in 2 days a week but still comes in to this beauty shop the rest of the week. I will go back in 6 weeks for a perm. She's been through a lot since I saw her last. She had a place removed off her back just before we permed my hair. The following week it gave her problems and became infected. They had to use a vac system to heal it and it is still healing. She has had to slow down and cut back on work while healing. I told her I had learned that we have to learn to take care of ourselves. I remember my Mama telling me that before she died. I told her that she is good about always working to help others first but now she needs to remember to take care of herself first. I have learned that if we don't take care of ourselves, we can't take care of others.

fatmad 04-14-2022 09:29 AM

HI everyone: 158 today. I am back on plan after being off over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday. I fasted yesterday, I felt so bloated after eating carbs so much. It was not as hard to fast yesterday as I thought it might be. Often I get bad cravings coming off the carbs, but not this time. If I can get through supper time, and DH eats his supper by 6 or so, I am good for the night. The hunger passes and I don't get tempted unless he is eating late. I told him to eat while I take the dog for a late walk if he needs to eat after 6.
We are both working on doing so "other" exercise. Some weights and today I did some side lunges while Buddy was sniffing things. I usually step in place, but the side lunges work some other muscles. They were part of my physio exercises when I had the tendonitis in the knee, so they are good for me.
All the elderly folks were pretty good. The aunts and uncles were as good as we could expect, given their health conditions. My godparents will become great-grandparents in July, so that was exciting news. They are the ones whose daughter, my cousin who was just a few months older than me, passed from cancer 2 years ago. It was her birthday when we visited, because we knew it would be a hard day for them. My sister and I enjoyed it all.
My Dad's companion was also pretty good. She and her daughter had covid 2 weeks ago, but are better now and did testing to clear to make sure to be safe for us to visit. She is doing ok now after an episode with heart failure. She also has a DNR order now, and wanted us to be aware so that we could be prepared. She is a sweetheart, and misses my father terribly.

I'm glad everyone here is doing well, and I will come and check in again soon. Have a good long weekend if I don't see/hear from you for a bit. !

Mad, you still have a lot of seniors in your family. Its hard knowing each time you see them might be the last. DH and I are the oldest in our family unit, except for step sons inlaws. They are in their 80s but very active still. She had her drivers license revoked recently due to poor eyesight.
I'm curious, what carbs does DH eat that draw you in? I wish DH would do his own meals. Or, I would willingly cook for him but he wants me to eat with him.

Trish, I am sorry to hear that your hairdresser is having difficulties. I know she is a good friend. I pray for her recovery.

I had a,difficult night. My skin is very dry and itchy from psoriasis. Lotions don't help. They sooth the dryness but increase the itch. Yesterday I tried a new cream said to stop the itch for 8 hours. CereVe. I made the mistake of putting it all over me after showering instead of testing one spot first. The first 2-3 hours were fine Then I had very intense itching and burning all night. It was unbearable. Its a wonder I slept at all. I took Tylenol, then Benedryl which gave slight relief. Then I took Tramadol and fell asleep. Right now I am experiencing some itchiness like I normally get. I don't know why I get such weird things.

Trish, in this book I'm reading they discuss rash, such as low carb rash. It says it is a sign of toxins leaving your body and it will clear up in time as your body has fewer toxins. I thought of you when I read it.

When I was a child and got a rash,my Mother said "That's the devil coming out of you. "

Hello All,
I am just back from Vt. The last week has been a whirlwind, getting ready for the craft fair as well as the event, I left for Vt the next morning, I am resting a bit then I have to get busy house cleaning and grocery shopping, My daughter and her 2 daughters are coming up tomorrow for girls night, then her husband and the boys will come up Saturday for egg hunt and dinner, not sure what I am going to cook. DBF and his 2 dogs as well as his daughter's dog are coming on Sunday, we will have steaks and salad for our Easter dinner. Not sure how long he will stay, will depend on how well his younger dog is doing, She is 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery and now thinkk have found a vet diet she will eat. Fingers crossed.

I skimmed the past few days trying to catch up. All the different diets are very interesting and the one thing I come away with is we really do not know all the mechanics of weight loss and how bodies use calories. I read that how they figure out how many calories are in a food, "To use this tool, scientists place the food in question in a sealed container surrounded by water and heat it until the food is completely burned off. Scientists then record the rise in water temperature to determine the number of calories in the product." But we dont' know how efficient our bodies are at actually getting or using these calories. Lets take corn, given the condition of how it exits the body can you really be utilizing every calorie? So science doesn't really know. It is easy to see how you body can access the calories in corn vs bacon. i do think that you find a way of eating that you can live with, incorporate it into your life and do the best you can.

When I did WW in the 80's we were told we should drink WW milk because it helped with loose skin, WOW, what a marketing ploy! Back then you could buy a lot more WW items in stores.
Does anyone remember Alba shake mix? We had a fudge recipe with it that would work for low carb. 1/3 c full fat ricotta cheese. 1 packet chocolate Alba. 1 tsp vanilla. mix together and put onto a piece of foil shape into a square and freeze, oh really good, I have also done it with just unsweetened cocoa and Stevia.

Wannabehealthy 04-14-2022 01:21 PM

Ann, you have a busy weekend planned! Nice for all involved.

Eating is complicated. It shouldn't be. Our bodies need fuel. We eat to get that fuel. There are many opinions of what fuel is best. We should eat when we are hungry. That is the fuel guage of our body. When the fuel gauge in your car goes down you replenish the fuel. You don't get more than your tank can hold. It would spill out on the ground. If you put too much in your body it is stored in your fat cells. We never need that stored fuel because we are always putting more in. We have all found out that eating fewer calories than we burn does not result in the expected weight loss. Something else is at work here and there are many theories of what it is.

I took a shower hoping to get this cream off my skin. Its all red and inflamed but not dry and scaly. Still burns a little. I read online this happens because the outer protective layer of the skin is damaged. The lower levels of the skin are fighting the intrusion. I just don't know what to do about it. Right now I will just wait for the inflammation to subside.

Carol Sue, years ago when I worked for the guy who owned the only good health food store we ever had (he died and store is gone) he put my babysister and me on a detox plan. I broke out in a horrible rash that I couldn't get rid of. When I finally came off of it and went to the doctor to find out what was going on, I learned that I was diabetic. I never did that type of cleansing detox again. His wife who had gone through the same thing although I don't think she was ever diabetic, kept telling me if I would keep doing it that it would clear up and go away. I couldn't endure it. I went on low fat diet which had just come into vogue at the time and did 45 minutes of exercise a day and got rid of the rash and diabetes for a number of years. I think the reason I'm not experiencing the keto/low carb rash this time is that I do what they call dirty keto instead of a clean keto or it could just be the fact that the diabetes is in control.

Ann, you talking about diet gimmicks over the years. Made me remember that when I was a kid there was a diet candy (can't remember the name of it) that was to be eaten I think with a cup of coffee 30 minutes before a meal. Mama and her little sister used them when to keep their weight down. My aunt complained to Mama one day that she was gaining weight on them. Come to find out she was eating them like candy, instead of food. I remember Daddy laughed and told her she wasn't supposed to eat them like a box of candy. I think they could have 1 or 2 little cubes before each meal. I don't know if anyone ever lost weight eating them or not. I would say not.

My daughter has a little dog that she spends one day a month cooking a special diet for him because of some stomach problem he has. She says she is a better dog mom than she was to her kids. LOL

Fatmad, Glad you and your sister enjoyed the visit with the elders in your family. We don't have any of those left in our family either. DH and I are the oldest ones in our families too. Being a stepmom, I think it is wonderful how you stay in touch with your Dad's companion.

Scale is actually stuck at 182.6 for 3 or 4 days. I noticed I did the same thing at 183.6. Then I gained for a few days and dropped back down to the 182.6. FBG is good at 97 today. It goes from mid 90s to as high as 109 some days so in fairly normal range so I'm happy with that.

I think one thing we have all learned is that One Diet DOES NOT fit all. I've pretty much decided that I know the foods that we like and those we will eat as well as what we won't. So I now plan meals using just those foods. The big problem I have with that sometime is that I get bored with the same thing all the time, but that is when I can have an off meal if I want just to shake things up. That is the big advantage of not having any Off limit foods. I like to think of them as Sometime foods instead. The main thing I'm doing right now is eating the foods I like and balancing the macronutrients so that I am eating less net carbs % are less than the protein and fat.

Have a nice day everybody.
