Hi all; had a dizzy spell at bedtime last night. Very odd, my head felt full, even though I was not congested, and the dizzyness was a bit like the spins when I drink too much. (Have not done that in many years, I hate that feeling). I was a bit nauseous with it, had some loose BMs and the Gravol helped me to get to sleep, though I stayed on the couch because I was up and down a bit.
I checked my BS when the dizziness hit, and it was fine at 5.7, and 5.3 this am. I don't have any sign of ear infection, so its a mystery. My friend and neighbour has been having some mysterious dizzy spells as well, no obvious reason. I did not check blood pressure though, that didn't seem a priority at 11 pm. I am better today, but still feel "fragile". I finished packing up the kitchen, and will sand and wash the walls and ceiling, to get ready for painting. I need to get that done because I am away for 2 days next week to go do my "elder visits" in Niagara with my sister. Ann: I am so happy and excited for you to see movement on the scale with IF. It sounds like its right for you and working well. Congrats. With your good attitude and active life, you will have this licked. I think you may move that insulin resistance very nicely with that. Carol and Trish: you are both doing well too! This spring must be doing us all some good. I was in a bit of a funk this morning, but reading your notes and sitting in the sun has lifted my mood as well. All good. Time to walk Buddy, have a good day. |
Trish, here is one article I found about autophagy. It is just 1 person's belief and I'm sure there are those who say some thing different but I've read it explained this way before.
https://drpompa.com/diet/when-does-a...-when-fasting/ Mad I hope your dizzy spell was just a passing thing and nothing serious. Once years ago I started having dizzy speels,,especially if I turned my head suddenly. The doctor gave me antivert and it never came back. More recently, I got up out of bed quickly, threw my legs over the side of the bed, passed out and crashed into the closet door. I woke up quickly and DH helped me up but I was vomiting the rest of the day. I never felt that way again but. now I get up and sit on the side of the bed a minute or two before getting up. |
Fatmad, I hope the dizziness is just a one time thing and you will feel better.
Carol Sue, Thanks for the link. Interesting info. There are so many different thoughts on the subject. I don't see myself doing much longer than 19 to 20 hr fasts so I may never get into autophagy. I did a 20 fast today and ended up having a Premier shake with berries for brunch. Today's menu is salad and personal pizzas. With some of what I have read in the P:E Diet, I have pretty much decided to use the protein shakes in the morning with berries as a semi-low carb brunch and then eat whatever we have at our main meal and do that within a 4 hr eating window and fast 20 hrs. MFP showed that I would have less than 1000 calories today so I added a protein shake that I won't be drinking just to finish the tracking. As of today I have my 3 days on the bike done for this week. I just have one more day of the other exercises to reach my 5 days a week goals and as of today I have upped those to the goal I had set for me to do each week. The only other goal to be reached with my exercise is to get my time on the bike up to 30 minutes but I'm not in a hurry to do that. I have another incentive to make this work and it is my DSD that I raised. She had her doctor's appt yesterday and she has arthritis. They want her to start exercising etc. She said to me today, "Mama, I know that if you can do this at your age that I can do it at my age since 23 yrs younger than you. I need you to coach me Mama". I want her to know she can do this plus it doesn't hurt that it also gives me a feeling of purpose. Ann, Have a nice day everybody. |
Trish, that is a testament to how much your family loves you and look to you for guidance. You are a wonderful example to them. It warms my heart.
I also don't think I will ever fast long enough to reach autophagy the way they explain it but I believe it doesn't have to be done often. Maybe once a month. But there are so many benefits to fasting the way we do it and its helpful to us. |
I had a wonderful night's sleep! I woke up so refreshed. And Fitbit agrees!! Now I'm enjoying my hot black coffee.

Thanks everyone; no more dizziness. 154 this morning after my eating day yesterday, I did ok yesterday, still had my walking and all.
Yesterday also opened up the opportunity in my province for those 60 and over to get another booster, so I went and got one, having a Moderna this time. I figured a little extra safety before going to see the elders in Niagara next week, thats all a good thing. My sister is getting hers today. Carol: I read a bit of you auto-nagy article: I think that aligns well with what Dr. Fung says. I would say after losing most of my 40 pounds with IF and EF, I have very little saggy skin, compared to other friends who did straight calorie restriction like WW and jenny Craig. Dr. Fung also claims that fasting reduces the need for skin harvesting for those with massive weight loss, but also admitted that was not a scientific fact, more his observation of his own clients, so he did not have a comparison group. I will be interested in seeing what happens with my friend who recently went on Ozempic, whom I have written about before. She has no lost over 30 pounds. When I read about this med, they claim 30 pound loss as the maximum, but my friend is still losing. She has very little appetite or interest in food. No longer wakes up dreaming of food or planning a meal. I don't know if this will continue if she ever comes of the medication. She will only ever come off ozempic if she loses enough that she is no longer diabetic, which could be a very long time if ever. But in the meantime, she is noting that her knees are doing better and she can walk better, often with just a cane. I hope everyone has a good day, and a good weekend. It will be a bit colder her, but going above freezing during the day, and just dipping a bit before freezing overnight. Time to walk. |
Mad, glad to hear the dizziness is gone, unless I was sick and feverish I have never had that happen. Interesting about fasting and loose skin, I can tel it is going to be an issue for me, I don;t like it and can;t imagine skin removal surgery, I am hoping since I am such a slow loser that it might not be too bad.
Carol, yay for a good night's sleep. I seem to get into a groove where I sleep great for a week or so then I go back to being unable to fall asleep or stay asleep. Weight is still holding steady, since I have been IF I am seeing small steady losses, so much better than bobbing up 4 lbs. Lunch yesterday again didn;t sit well, I had a baked pork chop. Funny but on Monday I picked up the hamburger that bothered my system and the pork chop from the same grocery store. Wondering about they cleanliness, I won't buy meat there again, Still a bit funky this morning. I spent all afternoon, packing craft fair stuff in boxes and totes, going to hit a different grocery store, then start packing my truck. The canopy is really heavy so this will get interesting |
Glad the dizziness is gone, Mad. Hope it stays gone.
We have a male friend who had bariatric surgery, encouraged by his wife. He has no loose skin that I can see. I asked him about it and he said "That's a woman issue" which I know is not true. His wife did not cook, so I don't know what they ate. She has since passed away. I've only seen him sitting in his vehicle so I don't know if he has regained anything. My friend who lost weight has loose skin. Her legs look terrible in shorts. I don't know about the rest of her but I know she does no fasting. She is a 3 meals and snacks eater. She lost about 30-40 lbs. She was not terribly overweight. She did this to lower her A1c which she did. The only pain I have today is my right hand. I want to bake cookies so I took Tylenol so I can do it. Chocolate chip today and apricot tomorrow. The dough for apricot is done, chilling in the refrigerator. I won't eat these. They are for distribution. This is how I buy the love of family. I woke up very hungry so I had my eggs at 9:30. That might be because I woke up at 5:30. Tonight I want baked scrod if we go to Rodneys. Ann I have one store where I buy meat, ground meat specifically. Its a chain but I only go to one with a particular owner. I have never had bad ground beef from there. Some I've bought elsewhere was discolored inside which led me to believe they topped old meat with fresh. There is also never any red liquid seeping out. Otherwise it is a very expensive store so I don't buy much else there. If you ask for a particular item and they don't have it they will most likely have it the next time you go. And there's no problem returning an unsatisfactory item. I've heard that they are very hard to work for. I will buy other meat like chicken or pork elsewhere, like Walmart without a problem. |
Ann, that is hard about the meat. I hope you feel better soon. I do cook ground meat thoroughly because it is higher risk for contamination, but something like a pork chop should be fine, unless they are not washing hands well etc. I would avoid that place too.!
Carol: Dr. Fund likens Bariatric surgery to fasting, or that fasting is more like that surgery than other diets. I certainly notice that I eat smaller portions now, I just can't eat as much. This helps with maintaining. Even when I gained some back, it was slower than might have been because I just could not overeat the way I used to. So I can understand why your friend did not have the loose skin issue. It has not been an issue for me, but my heart goes out to those who suffer. I am celebrating a victory today, not with weight loss but organization. Have my email inboxes cleared up. LOL, that took a lot of work. have a good day |
Fatmad, I'm glad the dizziness didn't happen anymore and hope it is gone permanently. I remember my stepmom used to get dizzy when she got up so fast so a few years ago when I experienced doing the same thing not to do that anymore. I've since heard of people doing that as the get older so to prevent it from happening to me I have learned not to just jump up and run like I used to do. I try to be more careful so I won't have any falls or injuries.
Ann, I hope you are feeling better. Our local store is known for TX beef so I buy it from there most of the time. I also am able to get grass fed ground beef there as well. I like to get my other meat there because they have meat with no antibioties or additives of any kind and since I can't afford grass fed everything. This works out nicely. Hope your craft show goes well. Carol Sue, Glad you got a good nights sleep. I'm not having any problems sleeping these days. I thought it was due to me drinking chamomile tea every night which I am sure helps, but got a free book on boron from Amazon and read that taking it gives me better deep sleep. I usually wake up ready to get up and the boron causes that as well. Except it didn't help to much this morning since we had a colder night than usual and I woke up freezing this morning. I was awake but wanted to stay under the warm covers. Hope your hand feels better as the day goes by. Not much to report here. Still maintaining where I am. I ended up with a 7 hr eating window last night. I decided to have a protein shake for breakfast and will have another one tonight. We will have cod fish fillets cooked in lemon butter for dinner today. I just might do 2 shakes and OMAD for a while because it is just so much easier than trying to figure out what to have for brunch and when I get hungry in the evening. Don't know how long that will last but maybe it will shake things up. Have a nice day everybody. |
Has been crazy, busy , nerve wracking day. I had to put the canopy frame back in the bag, that was fun. I have an EZ up tent that is 8x8 that is pretty easy to set up, this one is heavy duty commercial grade 10x10 and is intimidating. But I got in back into the bag and then had to figure out how to pack my truck. The truck I had before had a longer bed and a cap so I had lot of room this one is shorter and I have a tonneau cover so I have to make sure things fit below the cover. I think I have the big things packed, So worried I will forget something I need, I have credit card readers so I hope I have cell phone service, then I was worried I might run down the battery so I bought a powerbank that can recharge my phone. That just came and I am charging it now. You might be able to tell by my rambling that I am stressed to the max. worrying about everything, And getting great ideas at the last minute so I just put a coat of poly on a new piece, I know I am crazy. type AAA+ personality. I am trying to look at this as a social opportunity. I make stuff because it is fun and I like being creative, I dont need the money to pay my bills, I really just want to sell so I get validation that I am a decent wood worker and to give me room to make more stuff,

I read this on FB low carb group and thought I would share if because we lose so slowly. It explains what is going on when we have done everything right but are not losing any weight. It says that when we start to lose fat that our fat cells as place holders fill up with water while waiting to be refilled with fat. Fat cells can be stubborn and hold on for days but once they realize there is no fat coming then they will release and the cells collapse finally give us a big fat drop on the scale and we have a fat whoosh.
I think this kind of explains why it takes us so long to get out of 190s, 180s. etc as we lose the weight. |
I overate today because of stress. I don't know that it was really too much food but too many carbs. We went to Wal-Mart because DH wanted them to check his tire but they were too busy. I got a few things I needed. One was Easter Candy for DGS but DH opened it and ate some so I have to buy more.
I started to gather up the ingredients for my cookies but I had no brown sugar. Then I sat down to watch my soaps and the President was on. It was not my day. Those are not really big problems compared to things going on in the world but little irritations. It m just on edge. Ann I hope you did well at the craft show and had fun. Trish, that is interesting about the fat cells. |
Did 8 hr eating window but didn't drink the second protein drink. Had a snack instead. Goodnight.
|
Ann: really excited for you and hope you have good sales, for the validation and because that makes it more fun. You will also get to see other vendors and connect with them, its a different social thing than going as a customer. I have staffed booths at health fairs and find this to be so. Have a good weekend.
I did not weigh today. I did OMAD yesterday. Come the evening the shoulder was really sore from my Covid vaccine. Experience tells me that fasting is not great for me under these circumstances, and it is better not to take pain meds on an empty stomach. I will see how I do today, and decide how to go. I had a good sleep after the pain meds but its still pretty tender this morning. I will see how I feel after a walk, since moving helps most things, then decide about more pain medication if needed. Right now I am ok without, so I might save it for bedtime if needed. Carol: you have been doing really well, but there will be days that just don't go well. Just get back to your own normal now. That is often my problem, its fine to go off plan a bit, but getting back onto plan can be hard. Do you think all the baking you are doing is making it harder? Personally, I would be eating the whole batch minutes after taking them out of the oven. LOL Trish: I am sure you will soon get under 180. Sometimes with low carb its easy to over eat for a while, until the lower appetite kicks in over time. Being sure to get enough fat, so we are not just getting high protein foods. You are following a plan and I am sure that helps. Have a good day friends, and a nice weekend |
