Cheese soufle sounds good. How do you make it?
I went to the store and got ground beef, chicken, taco seasoning and tortillas for tonight, apricot filling for Easter cookies, and DH got cupcakes. He has to have his sugar. |
Ann, you are so active that I don't really understand how you could be overweight. I had a doctor tell me years ago when I did home childcare that he couldn't understand how I could be overweight. He was overweight himself. He said if he ever found a pill that helped you lose weight that he would let me know. Sounds like you have fun with your projects. Good for you.
Carol Sue, I just go to FB and up at top left corner you can type in names of people or subjects you are interested in. I just type in Intermittent Fasting or Lowcarb and it will bring up a number of them I have joined some groups and found I didn't care for them and left. I have also been looking lately for low carb recipe videos but you don't join them and some of them I don't consider low carb. I figure they are low carbers who do the one docs/nutritionists give diabetics of eat 45 g at 3 meals and 15 g for 2 snacks. So I don't usually follow them. When I find something I like then I just hit follow or join which ever applies. There are foods that I still don't bring in the house unless I can get such a small portion that I can't overeat it. That is my rule with chips. Once in a while when we get McDs CB, I will get a small a bag at Walmart and eat it with the CB. However, the plan today is to bring my burger home and cut it up into a nice salad and have CB salad. Weight is back down to 181 today so hoping it will stay there for a while if it doesn't keep going down. I will have to see it another day or two before I will accept it as a weight loss. We ended up eating a Tony's cheese pizza that we had bought because I want to empty out my fridge/freezer of things that are higher carbs. I think I still kept them under 100 grams yesterday. But I was surprised to see the loss with having had the processed frozen pizza. I figured I would show a bump up. As for diet plan, I think I'm in the process of tweaking not so much to change. I'm thinking being consistent with a consistent 8 hr eating window or less just might do the trick. DH is up so I will go get my shoes on and get ready to go. BBL |
Trish, I did find that IF group and read through some of the posts. I like when people post before/after pictures or pictures of food. I don't like recipes because mostly DH likes his meat, veggies and starch separate. That works good for me because I can eat meat and veggies. Do you have the Dana Carpender low carb cookbook? It is called 500 Low Carb Recipes. I bought it but didn't realize it was Dana Carpender til I got it home. I know for some its easier to watch a video.
I have everything ready for tacos tonight. DH likes soft tacos with flour tortillias. I could buy low carb tortillas for me but I don't use many so that would be expensive. I will have to consider if its worth it to me to spend the extra money or just eat the carbs. I love my homemade tacos. Lots of veggies. I have seen overweight doctors and nurses. Nurses are constantly running so I can't understand them being overweight. None of my doctors are overweight and none of them discuss diet or weight with me. One time I was in McDonalds and my doctor was there buying a hamburger! I had 2 doctors previously who discussed weight with me but they are now retired. I was looking online at the Dana Carpender Cookbook and it got some bad reviews. One person said it didn't have carb counts. I will have to find mine and see what I think. ________________________ Unless I list each individual item I cannot track my delicious tacos on MFP. They had a tortillis, seasoned meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, taco sauce, sour cream, and cheese. I found an entry for homemade taco. Best I could do unless I make an entry for Carol's taco. |
Carol Sue, I track a lot of things on MFP individual items because I want to use as close to what I am eating as I can. Not sure how accurate but at least I am trying to track it as best as I can.
I didn't eat until about 3:30. I did make my CB salad. I also ate high carb but less than net 100 and calories close to my high end of 1500 that I allow myself. I felt guilty at first because I ate during the evening and then I realized that I actually ate within 5 hrs because I started at 3:30 and stopped eating at 8:30. So I did good. I got quite a few low carb foods, but not the keto bread because it was almost $7 a loaf for such a small loaf. I will just stick to my SLMG. I did get the original almond milk because it is 30 calories and 1 g carb. I added liquid stevia and a splash of vanilla flavoring and makes it easy for me to drink. Now to relax until bedtime. |
Trish, I just read of a guy on Twitter who said in a pinch he goes to McDonalds and buys 6 quarter pounders with no bun and no sauce. He does it so often they know him. I think burger without the bun is becoming more common. 5 Guys has burger in a bowl on their menu. I also like pizza salad with the cheese and toppings.
I have seen some Keto bread that is very expensive. I have found that I like the Sara Lee the best, even better than the 35 calorie bread we have here. Its fine as long as you are careful with other carbs. I quit buying the Aldis keto. It is just too thick. I think its fine to have a higher calorie/carb day here and there. That is how normal eaters eat. |
Carol, a burger without the bun is how I eat it. I make my own with 6 oz of lean beef, I mince up portabella mushrooms to equal about 1/2 to 3/ 4 of a cup. I dice up one slice of bacon, then season and mix together. I make one huge burger about 6 inches in diameter and cook in the skillet, I use a litttle SF ketchup on it and eat with a fork. The mushrooms keep it moist, sometimes I add shredded cheddar.
Trish-I am with you on wondering why I struggle with my weight and have so much trouble losing. But, I am, I can recall a lot of bad eating habits, especially with carbs, I won't list because it is food porn. I think a lot of really busy people especially those in care taker roles, don't take time for themselves, Don't take the time to plan healthy meals, shop, prep and cook. I know I have justified eating bad, bad stuff for dinner because I hadn't had breakfast, or I deserved it. I got my hair cut and colored, then hit the dump. Taking a break then I am going outside to get some boards off the barn. Been putting it off because it is difficult and sometimes it takes me half an hour to get one off. Then I fasten some old lumber to the spaces to keep the barn supported. Wow, see how easily I make excuses and justify them?? |
Carol Sue, the first time I did low carbing when my kids were little, everyone was shocked that I would take big leaves of lettuce and make my CH without a bun. I loved eating the 5 Guys burger in a bowl. We don't have a 5 Guys here any longer as they seem to have been a business that didn't survive the pandemic.
Ann, I've read of some low carbers even use the large mushrooms in place of a bun for a burger, but I haven't tried that. I thought of it the other day when I saw some nice looking large ones at the store, but I've never eaten those so didn't buy them. I may try it one of these days. Nothing new here. BGS reading was 96 so that tells me my body sure likes the lower carbs even if it was closer to 100 grams. Weight was back to 182.2 but I'm sure that was sodium according to MFP it was very high. I don't take the Lasix any more because I am doing the low carb woe. Although I'm doing Atkins low, I do remember Dr. Atkins saying not to take them even within a week before starting AI. So I decided not to take it. This way the weight will be more accurate and the sodium will come back down in a day or two. I think another thing I've learned about myself is that I can't do very low calorie woe. I think when I go as low as 1000 calories that my body holds on to weight whereas, when I eat a little higher around 1200 to 1400 calories, the scale seems to move easier. I will keep an eye on this to see if it is true I've got parmesan chicken breast in the crockpot. So far net carbs will be less than 40 grams. The only thing that answers much for my meal time is the protein and veggie. We always have a salad. I have stopped eating the crackers and EVOO and ACV has become my normal salad dressing. Fatmad, I hope you are feeling okay. Have a nice day everybody. |
I am down .2 lb today. Down is down. I think I am finally saying goodbye to the 190s. I'm so glad I read this book again. I think it was years ago when I read it the first time. Some chapters were really boring. Too much technical info. But I read chapters 15 and 16 today and feel inspired to keep carbs low. I need to lower insulin. Taking the G makes that hard but its improving. I think I will reread Diabetes Code next. He changed his stance on insulin resistance in this book. He used to say with insulin resistance the gate would not open to accept the glucose. Now he says the body cells contained too much glucose and would not accept more.
My food has been tasting so much better lately. I think that's because I don't eat as much or as often. Slow but permanent changes. I roasted chicken for me and Rusty and it was outstanding. DH had a burger. I have mac and cheese in the oven for him, too but he couldn't wait for it. Trish, I think its bad to take Lasix unless its for ankle swelling etc. Fluid loss looks good on the scale but is not fat loss. It draws potassium and other important minerals out of the body. I think you are much better without it. |
HI all, I am 157 today. That is pretty disappointing. I know I was off plan a bit on the weekend, but did low carb on Sunday and low carb OMAD on Monday, to being so high today was a bummer.
I felt like I got back on plan faster this time. I am have a carb craving now, even though I ate keto for brunch. I am delighted everyone else is doing so well. Carol, you are well down under 190 again and that is a big relief I am sure. I will keep slugging on, and figure out a good low carb supper. Have a good day friends. |
Trish, I have never tried the big portabellas as buns, I would have to grill them and then I think they would be messy to pick up. I do buy them and created my own low carb pizza with them. I get the ones with the nice unbroken edges, pop out the stem, then take a teaspoon and scrape out the fins on the bottom, these can be a little bitter. I chop up the stems and saute with some sausage-either turkey or regular Italian seasoned. I brush the inside of the cap with a little garlic oil, add some sauce, the sauted stems and sausage, top with cheese. I bake them on a rack set into a cookie sheet because the mushrooms exude quite a bit of moisture and I don't want them really soggy. about 30 mins at 375. I have to eat with a fork, but we both love them. DBF used to do a big superbowl thing where he had a different food every quarter, but it was chicken wings, cheese sticks, nachos, so I came up with this as a healthier option.
Carol, I keep hearing about insulin resistance on TV, I am not sure I understand how it works. Mad, you just need time to get on track and your body will follow. I got 2 12 foot boards pulled, got the nails out, cut in half and I ran one of them through the planer half a dozen times. I won't be warm enough to work out there again until Friday. Tomorrow is only going to hit 39 and we start out with freezing rain. will be a good day to wash bedding and clean the house. I also need to macrame some more bags. |
Ann, insulin resistance as I understand it. Insulin is released from the pancreas when your glucose goes up after eating. Its job is to push the glucose into the cells to be burned for fuel. With insulin resistance, the glucose is not sent to the cells and builds up in the blood. From what Dr Fung says in Diabetes code, this happens when there is already too much glucose in the cells and they won't accept any more. The idea of low carb is to consume less glucose so your pancreas releases less insulin. I'm sure I don't have everything right but that's my general knowledge of it.
Mad, I'm sorry that your weight is up but its probably fluid and will come back down. I really think I am done with the 190s, finally! Ready for bed. Goodnight! |
The only thing I did right today is exercising and staying within my 8 hr eating window. My eating was out of control but I think it is because I didn't eat what I really wanted. Another thing I've learned is that if I don't eat what I really want, my eating goes out of control.
Mad, sorry about your weight being up, but I'm sure it will come back down in a few days. |
I had a very bad food day yesterday. I ate something I bought that I knew wasn't really low carb, but I thought I could handle it. I couldn't. I didn't track it until this morning, I reluctantly logged everything and I ended up with 1750 calories. not horrible, shouldn't trigger a gain, except for water due to the carbs. I hope I have learned my lesson. Today I am going to attempt to drink tea all day and not have a meal until afternoon, target is a 2 hour window of eating. Part of this is damage control and part is pennance.
Cold and rainy here, had sleet overnight. Finally have bedding in washer, took care of some things I had been putting off. Next is to run the vacuum through the house and wash kitchen floor. I will get on my bike shortly and do some crunches on the floor, I need to do more of that. I need to be busy and productive to keep me out of the kitchen. Carol, thanks for the explanation of insulin resistance, I hear so much about it on TV but never looked it up. I keep getting these ads on my phone about a new weight loss pill, some ads say someone lost 20 lbs in one week another say 50 lbs in 2 weeks, such garbage. Oh and my offer for a free trial bottle has been ending today for 3 weeks. In past years I have bought a number of products I saw on Dr Oz, nothing made any difference. I have learned there is no easy way to lose , it takes dedication and perseverence. Trish, I am right with you on yesterday's food. I just have to not repeat it. |
Trish, I believe that is an absolute fact. If what I eat isn't what I wanted I continue eating trying to feel satisfied. The bad thing about this is when you eat with someone else who wants something different from you. It needs to be worked out.
I figured out something about my pain. It is much less when my blood sugar is low and. worse when sugar is high. Yesterday I had no pain and when I tested it was low. During the night the pain came back. I tested and it was high. This morning I googled and found several articles about long term diabetes leading to tendon pain. This will give me incentive to keep carbs lower. I have never heard of this before. I want this pain gone and don't want to live on Tylenol Arthritis. Ann, I ordered a grilled Portobello sandwich years ago in a restaurant. Afterwards, they came to me and asked how I liked it because it was the first time anyone ordered it. The same thing happened when I ordered a veggie burger. We both love mushrooms and eat then sauteed often as a side. But my picky eater DH only like white button mushrooms so I seldom buy portobellos. |
Ann, we were posting at the same time. If there was a supplement that helped with weight loss .nobody would be fat. Just pop a pill. I do believe that certain foods can lead to weight gain and others curb it, and there are probably certain nutrients that help, but sadly there is no magic pill. The fact is there are so many overweight people who are looking for a solution that selling weight loss products and diet books is a very profitable business. I was just telling DH that the Nutrisystem ads show samples of their meals and almost every one includes pasta. Pasta does not promote weight loss, but it is cheap. There appears to be very little protein in their meals yet they show all these customers who have lost a lot of weight.
