 Good morning everyone!!!!!

Its a NEW DAY! So if you haven't been on plan...today is the day to get it right!! The month is almost half way over...so lets make the second half count!!!

McKenziesmomma 05-14-2009 09:57 AM

Question of the DAY???

Hey all you bootcampers! Seems like things are slowing down a bit, and some of us (myself included) have had a little trouble being on plan. So, I think it is time for a question of the day (or thought of the day) to get us thinking about what could be throwing us off track.

Since FOOD always seems to be what throws me off track.....I thought I would ask a food related question. I know if I'm not on track with food...I won't exercise....so I gotta get the food part right if I'm gonna be successful.

So, my question of the day is this -->

Is there a particular meal of the day or part of the day that seems to throw you off? This can be any time of the day that you tend binge or over eat or eat off plan. Once you have pinpointed WHEN this time of day is, look at WHAT may be the cause of it....are there trigger foods present, do you get overly hungry, too much time between meals, are you eating smaller higher calorie meals rather than more nutritional, filling, bigger meals??? WHAT can you do to STOP this behavior and START a newer one??

Hello everyone.

The maintenance they did to this site seems to have worked, and I can get on now.

I have had a hard time this last couple of weeks, as it has been DS 18 birthday then his graduation. We have had too many drinks to celebrate with him. Unfortunately, the scale has been moving in the wrong direction. But I am back on plan today.

QOTD - If I eat a good breakfast I do not have a problem during the day...However no breakfast and I snack all day long. So for me, I just have to get into the habit of eating breakfast everyday. No exceptions.

OK I am issuing a little challenge for everyone....Over the course of today, just drop and get 20 pushups in. (Or wall pushups)

Have a great day everyone.

McKenziesmomma 05-14-2009 12:49 PM

Lucky - I will take your challenge of 20 push ups...I'm gonna do them while I watch my soaps today at 1pm! :D

QOTD - I feel like I have several answers for this question....
I have a hard time with breakfast because I don't like breakfast foods. I hate oatmeal. I end up eating junk like pizza or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Once I blow it at breakfast...I have the all or nothing mentality so I eat like crap for the rest of the day and just say "I will start tomorrow".....and of course if I'm not eating well...I will NOT exercise.

So I guess my main problem is getting the day started off right. I need to plan for that better.

My second problem area is the afternoon. I like to have a snack about 3pm, but I usually end up eating junk...and snacking till supper time. I can do so good until then....and kaput! Down the drain my day goes.....I think the key to this is not to have trigger/binge foods in the house. For the longest time I told myself...its okay...I can have twinkies/chips/cookies/etc. in the house and measure out my portions and just stay in my calories. But I can't. I swear it is like being addicted to drugs or alcohol. I have one cookie or twinkie or cupcake...etc...and I have to have at least 4-5 more...then since I have screwed up the day I will say to heck with it and sit down with a bag of chips...or head to Sonic or Wendy's for some dollar menu burgers and fries!

Anyone else have problems with this....with being addicted to certain foods and binging? What did you do? The only thing I can think of is don't have that food in the house.

Koshinogi 05-14-2009 01:06 PM

Hey all,

So my answer to your question is:

Breakfast, I rarely eat anything as I find if I do eat at 7 when I get up, I get hungery at 10am, then agan 11am then till dinner, then I want to snack afternoon up until tea time.

So If I have no breakfast, and a great lunch of less than 400 calories, I dont get the urge to snack, I just have an evening meal. but.....if I work a 10-12 hour day as I have been last few weeks, I cant be bothered cooking, so I go for a take out.

Last night, I knew I had a long day today, So I cooked a massive pan of veggy soup, and stocked up on fruits I dont normally eat, ie pinapple, tangerines, apples, I took loads to work, has a work through lunch and stuffed myself with my fruit. When I got home I was hungry so I had more soup with a little bit of bread. and for my snack this evening 1/2 a pinapple cut into long sticks, and some rasberry yogurt, mmmmmmm, tomorrow, I have some soup left for lunch and I am going to have a huge plate of veggys and a grilled chicken breast with piri piri seasoning.

So will take minimal time to prepare but will at least keep me op for a few days.

MonteCristo 05-14-2009 01:19 PM

QOTD - My main problem time is late afternoon, say 4-6ish. That is when I get off work, and for some reason when I walk in the door at home my brain screams "eat!". So I usually exercise during that time. It might not work for everyone, but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around consuming calories when I'm trying to burn them off. Normally I might gulp down 200 calories of crackers without a second thought, but when I'm wearing my HRM and I see that it will take me a good 12 minutes of intervals to burn that off.... I don't think so! :D

Sometime I have a bit of trouble in the evening (9-10), but I can usually get over that just by staying up in my room, as there isn't any food up there and I'm too lazy to go fetch any!

zoochick777 05-14-2009 01:26 PM

For me, dinner is ALWAYS the problem. I do great throughout the day, but when dinner comes I'm usually starving, then eat too much. This happened this past Monday with Chicken Quesadillas and my weight has been up a little ever since. I think my problem is that I don't eat snacks between meals. It's fine between breakfast and lunch because that's when I exercise. But in the afternoon's I don't have much to keep me busy because I usually go to my boyfriend's house and we just sit and watch tv, so I think more about food. I'm going to try to start eating a snack around 3 to see if it can solve the problem. Time to go wash some clothes and clean a lil bit, have a good day everyone!

Jacque9999 05-14-2009 02:23 PM

For me, probably dinner since sometimes in the afternoon I don't get a snack in. Gotta remember to eat that piece of fruit at 3-3:30...then dinner will be easier. Maybe I will set an alarm clock or something.;)

mtiger 05-14-2009 06:53 PM

LL- I find eating more food is tough. I know I'm abnormal, but it is what it is. I upped calories last night, by eating pizza. Not the best way but got to 1500 calories for the day. I did go down a bit today. I am going to keep trying this plan and see how it works. No more pizza for a while though. thank you for your advice and support.

Did a little over 2 miles tonight (walk/jog). Having enchiladas from Hungry Girl tonight. My DD cooked. How nice.

After work and before dinner is my rough time. Monte said she could down 200 calories of crackers during this time. ME TOO!!! I can't make dinner fast enough.

Couch 05-14-2009 10:24 PM

Halfway!

How did it get to the 15th already! Madness.

So, how'd it go for everyone? I've learnt a lot, and had some reasonable success - I'm down 2.6kg (5.7lb). Specifically:

1. Food – Excellent. I'm at an average of 1510cal, which is only a teensy bit over the 1500cal I'm aiming for. I even managed to compensate for the massive amount of alcohol I drank last Saturday night.
2. Exercise – Just managed the 300min per week. I've been struggling with this, and wouldn't have managed if I hadn't spent ten hours dancing the first weekend of the challenge.
3. Relax – I haven't relaxed and enjoyed it much as yet, as I've been quite busy and stressed, but I have nothing planned this weekend, and a major source of stress has been lifted, so there's some serious couch time coming soon.
4. Water – this has fluctuated. I didn't go very well on the weekend, and paid for it all week on the scale.
5. Declutter – Slowly making progress.
6. Pamper – Oh yeah. Must make some appointments!
7. Other – Sleep. Not great. I am finding turning off the tv really hard, and last night I just couldn't get to sleep. Argh.
8. Mantra – Fake it till you make it.
9. Goal – 105kg. Almost there at 106kg.
10. Reward – Running shoes. I'm finding the idea of running a little scary still.

The second half of the month is going to be hard for me, as my sister's coming to visit for a week. I'm hoping that I can sneak off to the gym before she wakes up, but the food is going to be a minefield.

tmil206 05-14-2009 11:54 PM

QOTD: Dinner is usually the hardest because I have to feed my Fiance and a lot of the times I would eat something a lot healthier but I just eat dinner with him because I dont want to make separate dinners every night. I do try to take small portions of what we are having.

Kathy, I accept your challenge. 20 push ups coming right up!

Good Day, OP and 60 minutes of exercise completed. Looking sooooooooo forward to the weekend. Not much going but I have somethings I want to get done around the house.

Anyone got any plans for the weekend?

McKenziesmomma 05-15-2009 10:02 AM

Hey everyone

So....I feel a little like I'm letting everyone here down as thread/challenge starter and not really stepping up. I haven't really stuck to my guns about my plan and I really think I'm gonna have to limit my computer time if I'm gonna be successful...

I was thinking about adding another little thing to the challenge...and maybe it will be further motivating in our weight loss efforts....

I was thinking the person who lost the most weight during the May bootcamp challenge could START the JUNE bootcamp challenge...

You can use the same challenge format if you want ...the things/goals we had to set and stuff at the beginning....

What does everyone think about doing it this way....and whoever loses the most in June gets to start July...etc...etc...

luckycharm 05-15-2009 12:40 PM

Happy Friday everyone

Melissa - Why would you feel like you are letting everyone down? You are not. It is hard trying to stay on plan for most of us. Even those that are on plan find they hit a plateau and need a little motivation. However...the person loses the most weight for the month can definately use the little smiley drill sergent and crack the whip on me.

tmil - :carrot: on the exercise and op day. No plans for the weekend really. Just some housework. It is suppose to snow this weekend...of course it is the long weekend here.

couch - :bravo: on your success so far this month. My son had his18 birthday and graduation these last 2 weekends. My alcohol consumption has put me up 5 lbs. Lesson learned here.
Mindy - :carrot: Yahoo on your drop. We are all going to celebrate your drop by climbing stairs today. (Hope everyone has some stairs at there house.) 5 minutes of stair climbing. Do you have the Hungry Girl cookbook? If so do you like it?

Monte - Can you bottle your positive thought and motivation and sent them to me please? :D You seem to be in the right place in your quest for shopping for smaller close.;)

Jaquee and Zoochick- I will mentally telepathically send you "eat a healthy snack vibe" at 3:00. (Ya I know the mentally wont be a problem:rofl: )

Kosh- mmmm. That all sounds good. By the way GREAT job on preparing your food so that you didn't have to go for take out.

 to everyone else. I am on my way to celebrate with Mindy and climb some stairs. I might even put some laundry away while I am doing that. Have a great day everyone.

Lucky- I do have the new cookbook of hers "200 under 200". My dd made the enchildas from her book last night, but changed it up a little. They were good, a few more calories. Today was weigh-in for me, officially. I always seem to be up on weigh-in, and I was. D***. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

I had a long week at work. This is the time of the school year I dread the most. My 5th graders are getting absolutley ridiculous. 2 1/2 weeks to go. I will survive. I fell asleep about 6:00 and couldn't get myself up until 7:30. It threw off all my plans for the evening. I don't feel like doing a darn thing now. I think my body was trying to tell me something.

See ya all tomorrow. "The sun will come out tomorrow".
