Calorie Counters Keep it Simple in June

It's all about calories in and calories out. We just try to have a deficit each day. We're learning to tweak our food healthier and make our deficits sturdier through exercise. And everyone is welcome!

Rebeca 06-01-2006 09:39 AM

I got my fitday thing working! Yesterday I went to olive garden and i ate more than i should, and the deficit was only 50cal! Maybe it will zigzag and help things out... lets see...

susan- I do crunches and 3lbs weights on the balls...

srmb60 06-01-2006 10:38 AM

I think I've got it Rebeca! If you put in that your lifestyle uses x cals, you then cannot put in things like dressing, bathing ... it's like double dipping. Do you go out to work everyday?

Rebeca 06-01-2006 11:06 AM

Ohhhh, I see....

Let me go ahead and erase all that...

Yes I do work everyday! From M-F my regular job, and weekends my family business!

Rebeca 06-01-2006 11:09 AM

So I just add stuff like aerobics and walking on the treadmill?

srmb60 06-01-2006 11:13 AM

That's right, Rebeca. See I only work a couple of days a week and it's physical so I add that, exercise and weights ... that's all. I don't remember what my lifestyle is set at. I'll have a look at yours and mine and be back.

Rebeca 06-01-2006 11:27 AM

Susan - you eat very healthy!!! I am so thankful that you brought that up to my attention!
I was doing the math and it says that I should have lost 4lbs this month! Lets see how it goes from now on!

srmb60 06-01-2006 11:35 AM

And how much did you lose? Sometimes you can figure backwards.

And about the healthy .... I love nutrition! It's fascinating!

Rebeca 06-01-2006 11:48 AM

I havent gotten on the scale yet! I will tomorrow and let you know! I doubt it was the 4lbs though...

The way I figure its that 3500cal = one lbs!

Its facinating but very tempting too... bad food tastes so good sometimes lol...

Only sometimes? I think I could live on extra-cheesy pizza (stuffed crust, of course), cheesecake, glazed donuts (maybe even with frosting and sprinkles), and white chocolate candy (mmm...white chocolate peanut butter cups...) ;)

Anyway, back to reality...I'm back to tracking my calories. I'm trying to stay below 2000 every day and around or below 1600 at least a couple days each week. I'm also gradually increasing my activity--I haven't been intentionally working out, per se, but I have, for example, been going to the mall after work instead of home to nap :p And I park on the opposite end from the store I want to go to most, so I know I have to walk all the way across the mall. It's minor things like that, but I hope they add up--every little bit helps, right? Every calorie burned is one more 3500th of a pound :dizzy:

Looks like it's just been the 2 of you in here so far--hope I'm not crashing your party :^:

LynneA 06-01-2006 01:00 PM

Good afternoon :).

I've been absent from the boards for a few weeks, been very busy. I'm still counting the calories though and life has calmed down some so I'm hoping to get back to posting and being accountable with you ladies.

I ran my first 5k race on Memorial Day, finished it in 37 minutes which I was thrilled with as I was aiming for anything under 40 mins. I came 620th out of 878 lol. I've got pics at home so will get round to posting some this week. It was super hot though, 82 at 9am!

I'll start my deficit tomorrow as I didn't track yesterday. I see some of the old faces on the May thread and here so hello to the new ones I don't know yet.

srmb60 06-01-2006 01:58 PM

Oh HEAVEN'S! Everyone is welcome at this party.

Rebeca 06-01-2006 03:08 PM

Jill, you are welcome to this board!!!! LEts make a party out of this!!!

I am going to work out so hard today i had bad dinner yesterday and a bad lunch so i gotta get caught up and behave for the rest of the day!

slimkim 06-01-2006 11:33 PM

hi everyone.. I am looking to count calories.. I do an exercise video for 30 min 5-6 days a week.. house clean mostly ..at home stay at home mom.. 234 5' 8 43 yrs old.. do u think 1800-2000 is a good range for me or should it be less?? thanks for any help..Kim

srmb60 06-02-2006 08:18 AM

Hi Kim, if you KNOW for absolutely certain that 18-2000 cals is less than you normally eat ... it's a great place to start.

And welcome to our thread!

LynneA 06-02-2006 09:13 AM

Deficit of 766 yesterday.

Went to see my trainer at the gym this morning, it's been 5 months since my last visit. I've lost another 2.5% in body fat since end of January, 3 inches of my chest, 2 inches off my hips, 1 inch off my waist and various halves and quarters of an inch off various other parts of my body. I'm happy to say the least. My BMR is also up from 1503 to 1508 which means I am burning more calories now when I am resting!

My trainer has also devised new exercises for me to do when I circuit train. Let's just say "ugh" and "welcome to some sore muscles for a while" lol.

dgpebbles 06-02-2006 10:02 AM

morning...deficit yesterday of 798..I still haven't made it to the gym but I did ride my stationary bike for 30 min...

LynneA- great job on the 5k race...

Valerie Joy 06-02-2006 02:04 PM

Hi Everyone! Welcome to June!!

Well I hate to do this but I had to move my ticker up :stress: I had only 3 days without journaling but it looks like I gained two pounds over the weekend. This comes after a month without loosing anything. :?:

Thursday: 1829 calories, 834 deficit, 35 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights

slimkim 06-02-2006 07:22 PM

don't cry Valerie...that could come right off over the next day or two.. my body flucuates terrible some days.. so chin up.. it is only a temp gain and they come off fast (I do believe in weight loss.. I do..I do..) LOL.. I have same deal.. work so hard to take off 3 lbs all month and one lousy weekend 2 is back on like lightning... what's up with that?? well I know we'll get there together.. keep up your journals now.. it is worth it.. bye..Kim

dgpebbles 06-03-2006 12:25 AM

LynneA- I don't know how but I missed your earlier post...anyway congrats on the inches lost and the body fat...I know how exciting that is....when I saw my last numbers I was on cloud 9 for like 2 weeks...keep up the good work...

Valerie-I agree with kim...don't sweat it..the lbs will be gone in no time...probalby is water gain...

deficit today of 755...no cardio but did a few hand weights and toning

LynneA 06-04-2006 07:56 AM

I have had such a busy weekend so far! Got friends coming over today, the husband is helping my husband put up a goat pen because our little family of four needs more room. The wife and I are going shopping then back to the house for nibbles then eventually I'm making dinner. So yesterday was a frenzy of cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping then in the evening I weeded half our vegetable garden. It's a wonder I can walk today!

I haven't counted either, oops . I ate good though all weekend so far and drank water plus with all the exercise I got yesterday there is bound to have been a deficit.

Got to go, last minute vacuuming to do before we leave for breakfast.

Hope everyone is doing great, have a good Sunday!

Donna - thanks again :) Congrats on your deficits too! 755 is great with no cardio.

dgpebbles 06-04-2006 10:35 AM

yesterday I managed to do some hand weighs and crunches but no cardio...had a deficit of 688....can't wait for tomorrows weigh-in cause so far it looks like I'm going to have a good one if I don't blow it today

floridarusty 06-04-2006 10:52 AM

Hi, I am new and would like to get back to counting calories. I have been on the 3 Hour Diet with little success and the site here has slowed down to very little support....so I am ready to switch back and lose some weight.

What are the things I need to do to be part of this group? I see Fitday so I will go sign up there to get started. I am going to try for 1400 cal/day and exercise 30 min. 4x's a week. I am going to be the grandmother of this group I believe at 61....I live in Florida and have just retired a month ago.

Thanks for your help and I hope to get to know you all.

Phyllis

srmb60 06-04-2006 11:13 AM

Nope Phyllis, you don't have to do any thing special. We just try to burn more calories than we eat and we try to help each other do that. So, you are most certainly welcome!

Apolline 06-04-2006 03:11 PM

Hey all - I am a calorie counter, too!! I bought an account on www.myfooddiary.com after doing www.fitday.com for a couple of weeks. I need the online accountability - one night I almost cried when I put everything I ate in there because I lost control and just ate ate ate. I will give myself credit for actually logging it :write:, becuase a large part of me just wanted to ignore the binge:devil: and start over the next day. But I figured if I actually added it up it might stop me from doing it again.:^:
My biggest problem is when I cook meals for my family I don't really know how many calories, fat, ect are in there because I usually just cook on "instinct".
Also, how much water do you guys take in everyday?
THANKS guys!

LynneA 06-04-2006 08:41 PM

Hi Appoline, I measure everything out when I cook then I look up the calorie content. Most food packages list the nutrient content or you can visit internet sites like calorieking or fitday to find out.

It's fiddly at first and can be a pita especially when making a dish with lots of ingredients but if you want to be sure you know what you are eating, it's the best way imo.

Valerie Joy 06-04-2006 11:03 PM

Hi Everyone

I had a good OP day today.

Sunday: 1007 calories, 1629 deficit, 35 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights

Weekly deficit 6607

Michelle 06-04-2006 11:08 PM

Hi Everyone ~~~ I had posted on the other thread not realizing that you changed to a new one for June. I have been off track this whole week because of migraines, stress and my mom being back in the hospital. I'm starting over tomorrow counting my calories, doing my WATP and getting back on track. Do all of you find Fitday easy to use? I still have an account there that I signed up for awhile ago, but I haven't totally figured it out yet. Have a great day!;)

srmb60 06-05-2006 08:19 AM

Morning folks!
I measured my water one day because I though that was one of my shortcomings. I filled a two litre bottle and away I went. I easily drink more than that so I was happy.

slimkim 06-05-2006 10:30 AM

Hi everyone,..
Michelle hope those headaches subside... my sone gets them.. stress of school sometimes or lack of sleep... fita day is super easy to use i plug in all my lean gourmets in there for custom food.. i still journal by hand but then type it all in then i can see at a glance where i am lacking or doing good..

Valerie..good for you!!! keep it up..or down..hahaha

Lynn~ I do pretty much the same thing excepting.. my family has not come to like whole wheat pasta yet so I make whole whaeat pasta in seperate pot.. then I add in 1/2 cup of this or that.. I know then exactly what i use.. it is per serving so easy to figure...

Apollone.. great accountability.. I had to do the ame thing.. otherwise we give the ok for next time... did you know 250 cal and 24 gr of fat in one chocolate frosted entemanns donut!!!! holy schmoly!! I didn't eat it DH did.. I said ..do you know how much food i could eat for that??? a small country..LOL.. not really but.. If i really wanted something like that i would eat 1/4 just for the tasste.. sometimes i see something and mindlessly shove it in my mouth ..upon chewing realize my error and calculate what that is going to do to my totals and did i really want it??..if not then i spit it in the trash.. gross but i still didn't eat it.. grosser on me..

well everyone else have a great day.. raining here all day... Delaware.. Kim

floridarusty 06-05-2006 11:04 AM

I will do better when I ck in tomorrow that is for sure.

Phyllis

Hi all! I happended onto this board this morning...I hope you don't mind if I join in?

I have been doing the South Beach Diet for 2 months now, but I've only had a minimal loss. I feel like it's because you are allowed to eat high calorie foods like mayo, cheese, nuts, etc. I am thinking I might try to start counting calories again because I didn't that 6 years ago and lost 40 lbs.

Anyhoo, nice to meet you all and I might be seeing you soon. :)

Michelle 06-05-2006 12:23 PM

 HOLLY:welcome3: !!!!!:D

SLIMKIM...Thank you for your kind words and the Fitday info!;)

Michelle 06-05-2006 01:30 PM

 SUSAN ~~~ You're doing SO good and I see that you lost more weight!;)

tresor 06-05-2006 04:02 PM

Just a quick check in to see if my new avatar of Buster Brown is working. I had a loss of 1 pound this morning so I could finally adjust my weight tracker.

Michelle 06-05-2006 04:18 PM

KATHY...Very cute picture and great job on the weight loss!!!;)

Meigg 06-05-2006 06:49 PM

Hi guys - mind if I join this board? I was here for a long time on the Atkins board, but have been gone for a while, and gained even more weight.

Anyway, I am counting calories now, and would love online support. I am married, living in Chicago selling real estate. Just turned 37, and need to get my act together before I am 40 - or at least that is my goal.

I need to stay under 1500 cals per day. Had my metabolism tested, and that is my "golden number" according to my nutritionist. I have had a really hard time of it, because I take medication that causes weight gain. It is focused in my tummy, so I look 3 months pregnant. Anyway - now you know all there is - and I really look forward to your support - and to supporting you all!
