What a great group! Hurray for all!!!!! I acknowledge each and every one of you.
Michelle, listen to you teaching how to use links there!!! You go girl.

I didn't get my walk in today. Headed out once it cooled down a bit and was devoured by mosquitoes.
Have to make it a longie tomorrow.

kittiebabyh 06-13-2006 11:21 PM

I was doing so good at the calorie counting and then I got stuck. I have been in the 220's for 2 months now. I joined the gym today and I'm so excited, but doed anyone have any advise to give me to jump start my weight loss again. Thanks, Heather

ripples57 06-14-2006 06:56 AM

I think I got it!

ripples57 06-14-2006 06:58 AM

Thanks so much Val and Michelle. It's amazing what a good nites sleep can do for the brain-duhh!!!LOL I tried typing in the url address and then realized this morning all I had to do was type in my user name where it says "Fitday". Amazing how slow my brain works these days?!!

ripples57 06-14-2006 07:02 AM

I have a ? about activities if anyone can help. I do WATP videos and eliptical training alternating days. I can't seem to find any description for these so I have my exercise under "teaching aerobics". Does this seem ok. The exercise I do is aerobic for both WATP and the eliptical trainer. Should I be listing it as something else? Any input appreciated.

srmb60 06-14-2006 08:30 AM

Wow busy busy thread! How great!
Ripples? I use aerobics, general.
kittiebabyh? hang in here and read lots. We'll help you. Do you use fitday.com?

floridarusty 06-14-2006 08:43 AM

Ripples I do the WATP DVD and didn't know where to put it either, I am only doing the 1 mile at this point. Thanks for the answer Susan.

OK, I am wondering what happened here......I was down a lb. yesterday and today I am up 1 1/2 lbs????? I had a deficit of 1190 yesterday and did my walking DVD for 1 mile and an extra 15 min. walking my dog??? I suppose it is holding water??? I didn't expect to be down just the same but certainly not UP!!!!!

Oh well, I know my body holds the water easily and loses it quickly so I will just keep on and hopefully see that loss again soon......

Phyllis

One of the things we have to get our brains around (if we want to weigh each day) is that there are fluctuations. Yes, water is one of them and it can take many forms. Regular bloat, salty food induced bloat, post workout muscle water retention ....
Wndranne did an extensive study of her weight over (several) days (I think). It's worth a read. I'll post a link if I can find it.

violet32 06-14-2006 10:01 AM

Heather (kittybaby) I know how you feel, I have been stuck in the 220's awhile too. I was stuck around the mid upper 220's for the longest time. The scale has started moving again though since I started bouncing my calories around. I eat at the low end of my calories some days and at the higher end other days. I am still in the 220s though, LOL. But I expect to be out by next week...whew! Also, I have been drinking LOTS of water!

Phyllis, I weigh daily too and it always amazes me how much it can fluctuate daily. I am ok if it flucuates DOWN, but if it goes up...LOL

Susan, I did not know about post workout water retention- that is good to know. I am going to try to start doing my pilates DVD's regularly. I won't freak out if I see a little increase on the scale now. Thanks :)

ripples57 06-14-2006 10:02 AM

SusanB thanks for the advice. I'm so glad I found this thread!!Seems like a very good place to be for advice and support. Phyllis-I HEAR ya!! I was stuck for 2 months and driving myself crazy when I weighed every day! It took me that long to realize that maybe my old body was trying to tell me something(I'm 49 in Aug.). I think I retain water some days. I have really stuck to my eating and exercising regimen, so it was frustrating not to see a difference on the scales. After reading the threads here and on WW, and Leslie's site, I realized that I need to really focus on how my clothes fit (even though I didn't want to hear it at first). I "rethunk" what I'm doing this for and realized that this is for life and health, not just about numbers on a scale. Since I started, I have gone from a 43" wasit to a size 38", a 44 1/2" bust to a size 41" and from 47" hips to 44" and my BMI from 35 to 31. I have yet to go back to dr after 2 yrs of not having cholesterol checked. Can't wait to see if I got it down from the 247 it was. I feel better than I have in years. So try to focus on what you've done and continue doing it. You KNOW you can do this. I just think of it as being more stubborn than my body is LOL!!! Good luck. Hang in there!

Rebeca 06-14-2006 10:04 AM

Good Morning Everyone-
OVer the hump day feels so good sometimes! I am going to go grocery shopping today so i am working on a simple meal plan that i can work around!
Deficit for Monday was 230
Deficit for Tues was 860

I was planning for much less, but then...

Rebeca 06-14-2006 10:07 AM

Everyone is so supportive of each other! Its wonderful!!!

I have been stuck in longer than I can think about...the scale just move one lb the other day! Its really frustrating, but i havent been that great either so i cant complain!

ripples57 06-14-2006 10:10 AM

Phyllis, I forgot to ask-is it really humid down there in FL? I know when I was down there a few yrs ago taking care of DMIL when she was sick w/cancer, I retained water big time. I NEVER swelled from the heat/humidity until I went down there. The only time I ever did that was when I was pregnant for each of my kids!!LOL Maybe that has something to do with the big fluctuation. Just don't take it to heart. I know there were a few times lately that I wanted to take a hammer to my scales. HEHE

ripples57 06-14-2006 10:26 AM

SusanB my fitday only lists teaching aerobics or water aerobics. Do you have the PC edition maybe?

srmb60 06-14-2006 10:32 AM

No ripples, I have the free one ... hmmm. I'll go look and get back to you.

Here's that thread of Anne's called demystifying the scale ...http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51927

srmb60 06-14-2006 10:34 AM

Aerobics is under Dance!! There's a few different level selections.

Lisi 06-14-2006 10:40 AM

Good morning everyone. I promised myself I'd take a long walk and get out to run errands before DH home at 1:45. Then I got caught up in looking at before and after pics in the 100lb loser chat. Go there if you want some inspiration.
I'm still not fiddling w/fitday. I pretty much know the calorie content of foods and its a matter of just listing and adding the calories. 1275 with some exercise will bring me to a very nice place.

blues4miles 06-14-2006 11:04 AM

Hi Susan! Thanks for the reminder on water, need to get mine in...

Ripples I either use Aerobics, General or Aerobics, Low Impact, or Waking X mph for my WATP. I think teaching aerobics is like teaching a class, when you are both doing the work AND talking the whole time, I'm sure that would be an overestimate for WATP (for me anyways).

Deficit of 453 yesterday. No formal exercise so guess that one was of my days off, I need to get back in the habit of 5 days a week of physical activity. Don't remember if I was losing weight then either but at least I felt better about myself. Had good protein levels yesterday too, hopefully I can keep that up. Take care ladies, nice to see the thread so chatty lately and thank goodness the month isn't even half over. Time has been flying by, just over 4 months until my wedding, have to admit I'm a bit behind in the planning! :o

ripples57 06-14-2006 11:44 AM

The fitday that I have is a free one and it doesn't list Aerobics, General or aerobics. It only has teaching aerobic-I thought that was odd. I'll have to check under dance. Do you know how many MPH for WATP's. I'm sure it's different for each video-just curious. Sorry to be a pain in the backside!

Michelle 06-14-2006 11:51 AM

I use General Aerobics with the free Fitday also for my WATP. What would you list walking around the track at the park as?

ripples57 06-14-2006 11:56 AM

One more item-sorry-I just discovered that if I use the "ski machine" setting on my fitday for my eliptical workout it turns out to be almost exactly the same amount of calories as my calculator on the machine-385 cal. for 45 minutes. Just thought it might help someone else who does eliptical training.

clarabr 06-14-2006 11:58 AM

Hey guys,

Managed to stay at 1520 cals yesterday, which was great. In the beginning it was hard to stay under 1700, so I guess this is progress. My plan for today is only 1330, I don't know if I can do it. I might need an extra 100-150 there somewhere. We'll see. I also plan to walk for 45-60 minutes.

BlynC 06-14-2006 01:25 PM

Hello everyone! Hi Susan ...are things settling down for you after the big wedding?
Hi Miles good to see you again. I hardly recognize anybody...
I finally am back on track and can record a deficit of 1180 for yesterday. I have been getting over 10000 steps a day now on the old pedo. Planning to keep it up!....see ya later...Blyn

srmb60 06-14-2006 07:12 PM

You are very welcome Melissa! 17 pounds, eh?! Good work!

srmb60 06-14-2006 07:39 PM

I wish I could find a poll we did once ... the upshot was a huge percentage of folks have tried, tried, tried again. Almost nobody was successful the first time. So you're in good company!

violet32 06-14-2006 08:52 PM

I am proud of myself today, I did 20 minutes of pilates :) So, today's deficit is 1375!

I stepped on the scale this afternoon and it said I weighed 219.5. I did not beleive it, so I got off the scale and reweighed myself *several* times. It still said 219.5- yay! I am afraid it was a false reading so I will not officially count it until tomorrow morning. Still...I am finally under 220! I am really happy :)

Melissa, I eat about in the same calorie range as you :) I eat 1200-1300 monday-friday and 1500 on the weekend. There is just something about the weekend that makes me want to EAT, lol.

Blyn, you are doing great! 10000 is lots of steps :)

ripples57 06-14-2006 09:20 PM

Way to go Violet! It drives me crazy sometimes to get on the scales. I try not to weigh every day, but sometimes I just know before I get on that I gained or lost without even looking. Well I've been using Fitday for 6 days now and have realized I really need to cut down on my carbs and work on upping my protein. Today my deficit is 838. I don't think it's too bad considering I ate quite a bit. I just can't seem to eat a lot everyday, just every so often I'll have a day like today and eat more often. I'm curious to see if it makes a difference in losing by keeping in check with the calories, carbs and fat. I do WW Core program which I think is a great way to eat healthy. I only eat when I'm hungry (most of the time) and I eat smaller amounts. Hopefully I will see the scales move again. This is a great thread. Glad I found it. Guess I'll call it a day and say good nite all.

floridarusty 06-15-2006 09:25 AM

Mel, my son my oldest son is on the Remicade infusions tool. It works wonders for him. He goes to a gym and works out and plays basketball now to keep his body moving. He cannot do certain machines and only does the ones he can handle.....his arthritis has settled in his knees. He doesn't have a weight problem.

You might ask your Dr. about the calories? Can you do any walking, swimming? If you can do walking the Walk The Pounds Off DVD's are excellent and you do them in front of your TV and a mile only takes about 20 minutes.

You don't have to exercise to lose weight, it just will speed it up and define your muscles but you do feel much better after you do a little something. Just start slowly.

Phyllis

floridarusty 06-15-2006 09:26 AM

Deficit of 720....I was over my 1500 cal range for 2 days so far this week, got to start doing my fitday at noon to see where I am and what amount I have left for the day I think but two glasses of wine jumps it right up there.

Phyllis

ripples57 06-15-2006 10:20 AM

Ahhh-wine. Somedays it's worth it-some not. I've been trying to stay away from it and the ultra lite beer. I don't drink it every day, but I do like a few on my weekend, so I'll try to stay away from it for now until tomorrow nite at least. I weighed myself this am and I am down to 164.8. Go figure. The scale was not budging-at least not in the right direction-for 2 months and now last wk I had lost 1.4 and now so far I'm down 3 lbs! I won't complain . Hopefully I can keep it moving down.

blues4miles 06-15-2006 10:32 AM

Hey ladies,

Exercised yesterday and feel good about that. Went overboard for "dinner" and don't feel good about that. Ended up with a deficit of about 50 calories  but at least it was a deficit.

I don't know why I'm so tempted all the time. I need to tell my brain that ice cream is going to be there the rest of my life, and I don't need to eat it all today. Feel like I am trying to make up for lost time, or maybe prepare for a famine. Also watched a bit of "The Half Ton Man" on one of the discovery channels. One of the doctors was promoting his theory on mice and lepten and all that and that he saw WLS as the only solution to people whose hunger was messed up. In my case, I know I wasn't hungry. I don't know why I felt the need to eat it though, or eat it all it once. It's like I'm afraid one day they're going to outlaw chocolate so I've got to make good time with it now :D Anyways, just my ramblings, trying to think positive thoughts and trying to think of ways to improve my outlook on life in general.

Lisi 06-15-2006 10:38 AM

I'm coasting, but been bad about actually keeping track. I know if I either keep track of portions, or calories, I have a wonderful freedom of knowing exactly what I ate.
Susan - there was a big wedding?
Clara-great going
Ripples & Blyn :carrot:
Violet, I'm so happy for you - looking for good news tomorrow:dancer: I was down to 205 a few months back and I remember the feeling, but I drifted
Melissa - I'm sure you'll hear 1100 is too low. I know I need to find a way to eat that is a life plan, and the hungry horribles don't make it for me.
Hi rusty FLA.:coffee2:

srmb60 06-15-2006 10:49 AM

Yup, our daughter got married on May 13th. there's a few pictures here ...

Rebeca 06-15-2006 10:56 AM

Mel- Swiming is a great exercise for all reasons especially if you have any bone problems! Its even better when you can exercise in an indoor pool where the water is lukewarm! Now about gaining it all back, you have to thinkthat THIS IS NOT A DIET, this is a life long way of living that if you dont keep us the gain will come back! There is no point of putting your body to all of these changes if you are not goign to stick with it! Its better for you to lose weight while on a diet that you are able to maintain! For isntance, i havent lost all that much weight because i eat a little of everything, if i feel lke ice cream i will get two spoons and that is it! Or a piece of chocolate instead of the whole container! You are doing so great!

Blues- i eat just like you do, i am not even hungry and i start eating nonstop like junk food is going out of style! But that is because i have ADHD and if i am not constantly movign i will eat! I always have to do two or more things at the same time to keep my thoughts away from food! I do not take any meds for it because idont want to become dependent on them but i find that exercising first thing in the morning makes me in a mellow mood and I end up eating less all day! Also, when you are home and have nothing to do, take a nap or a bath, then think of what you are going to eat before you step in the kitchen!

The deficit for Thurs was of 1478... i gtta get the scale moving pretty soon before it gets thrown out of the window!

Rebeca 06-15-2006 10:57 AM

Mel- I have read that if you eat less than 1200 cal a day you are shutting down your metabolism and you will stop losing weight! You body will go into starvation mood, best thing to do it stay between 1200 and 1500!

Rebeca 06-15-2006 11:01 AM

Susan- you look so skinny on those pictures!!! Go SEXY mama!!!

Michelle 06-15-2006 11:01 AM

SUSAN... I looked at the wedding pictures and they are very good! You are SO pretty and SO tiny! You have a very nice looking family too!;)

srmb60 06-15-2006 11:10 AM

Why thank you!:o

Michelle 06-15-2006 11:15 AM

SUSAN... You are very welcome!;) You should put a picture on here for your avatar so everyone can see how pretty you are!!!:^:
