Oh, I'm so lost. If it isn't bad enough I've gone crazy for the last 3 days and gained 3 lbs, now this forum suddenly is off my subscription list and I had a hard time finding you again.
It was too hot to walk so I didn't do that. Then I went crazy with sweets, with both being tired from not enough sleeping (my fault) and having a sinus headache. I know some is the weight of the food, and water as well so it will come off fast.
Please tell me how to subscribe to be sure I can find y'all.

Lisi 06-19-2006 11:41 AM

Ok, I'm resubscribed. Whew.
Ripples, that is so sad. And I understand how you feel. We must hope she will come back. Maybe the other cats scared her away.

Lisi 06-19-2006 11:45 AM

Mel, I love the idea of spraying the oatmeal. DH does a lot of the food shopping and just brought home 3 marked down cans of it. Will try. Does anyone know what the recommended serving is to reduce cholesterol? My cannister doesn't show it.

Lisi 06-19-2006 12:01 PM

Oh, now I'm catching up on this oatmeal reading. For me, I always do better with a high protein breakfast. The oatmeal may be filling at the moment, but no, I'm buzzing around feeling light pretty soon. So I'd need some protein, like the egg whites, with it. Love to sautee veggies and have em around for throwing with scrambled eggs, or omlet.

ripples57 06-19-2006 12:16 PM

Thanks ladies for the kind thoughts. It means a lot. We are praying that she has just run off and will return. Yes, she is like a baby to me as well as our 7 yr. old shelter dog Ripples. She even looks lost. She paces the floor and goes over to the front screen door and looks out and then goes and lays back down. The two were such clowns together. Every AM and PM they had a little ritual where they would wrestle-usually Layla started it. They were more fun to watch than the TV at times. DH looked for her yesterday am for about an hour. He keeps telling me not to blame myself, but I know deep down if I had not messed up and forgotten her she would still be here. I'll just keep having faith and pray that she's in a better place if she doesn't come back.
I did eat a little oat bran for lunch-you guys got me thinking about the oatmeal. My DH loves oat bran and it is good-6 grams of fiber in 1 cup and not quite as lumpy as oatmeal, but I love oatmeal too. I like to put honey and peanut butter or bananas in it.
Thank you again for all your kind words. I'll be keepin' the faith and hoping for the best.

clarabr 06-19-2006 12:17 PM

Thanks guys for all the oatmeal ideas. I don't know if we have the flavored ones here. I'll check. Maybe I just need to get used to it. I'll try it again one of these days.

Ripples, I'm so sorry about Layla! I hope she turns up. What a horrible situation :(

I think I'm gonna lower my calories. I've lost 2 pounds in 1month. I know myself, I'm just not disciplined enough to lose weight this slowly. I *always* get discouraged after a while. At this rate, it'll take me 5-6 months to get to my goal. I think I'll post a menu for you guys to have a look at.

floridarusty 06-19-2006 01:07 PM

Ripples I am so sorry about your cat....however they do tend to show up sometimes. I had one gone almost a week years ago and he came home all skinny and ragged looking but fine.

If she got hurt in a fight she may be hiding and taking care of her self and will show up when she is better or not scared anymore.....leave some food out for her.

Let us know what happens.....and don't blame yourself. Phyllis

ripples57 06-19-2006 03:51 PM

Thanks for the encouragement Phyllis. I am hoping.
I guess the oat bran is as good as the oatmeal for "sticking to your ribs" b/c I have gone all afternoon without any hunger pangs or cravings. Maybe I'll eat it more often at lunch instead of breakfast-afternoons are usually when I get my cravings.

You can toss some protein powder and psyllium husks in too, to muscle it up some.

That sounds really good Susan! What kind and where do you get your psyllium husks I just add some Bran Buds with psyllium ...

srmb60 06-20-2006 08:26 AM

Hi Ilene! It's good to see you here! I cook steel cut oats in the crock pot over night. I buy them and the psyllium husks in a bulk food store. Very cheap!

Morning everyone! Did you meet Ilene? She is one of the ladies I've admired since prit nearly the first time I came to 3fc.

Rebeca 06-20-2006 09:06 AM

Hellow again Ilene!

About the oatmeal- I love oatmeal- but i only buy the ones with fruits in them! Blueberry is my favorite! Then I add raisins or strawberries and just add plenty of fruits and I dont do it with water, I warm up the milk and pour over it! Its filling, and i love having it for breakfast, all of those fruits really get your metabolism going!

LynneA 06-20-2006 09:48 AM

Morning All :).

I had a deficit yesterday of 1000 so I think I'm back on track (again :D ).

Ripples I'm sorry to hear about your cat, I have a cat that is missing also. We put him out over 2 weeks ago and haven't seen him since. I feel bad about putting him outside but he's been having issues with urinating on furniture (long story) and on that night in question I caught him about to pee on our love seat. So I put him out, didn't know what else to do. I hope yours returns at least.

Lisi 06-20-2006 10:11 AM

About psyllium, ground flax is also a wonderful fiber. Contains omegas. Lowers lipids. Tastes nutty. Good sprinkled on salads or in smoothies, add anywhere. But do not heat - the heating destroys the omega properties. So If I'm adding to something cooked, I add it after heating. It doesn't keep for long so I buy mine already ground and freeze most, then take out part to keep in the frig. Frig is good for weeks.
Flax seeds themselves just pass through the system. It has to be ground. I have grinded my flax seeds in a blender. Coffee grinder works fine.
Had to mention since I'm trying to lower my chol and triglicerides.

ripples57 06-20-2006 10:32 AM

Hi all. Thanks Lynne. I hope your cat is just "wandering" like I'm hoping mine is. My heart is so broken. This cat was just like a baby to us. We've had other cats, but she was just sooo affectionate. She would jump up in my lap and meow at me and I would pet her and if I stopped she would take one of her paws and touch my chin with it as if to stay "don't stop". It is so devastating. My poor dog just laid by the screen door last nite and watched outside. If she heard a noise she lifted her head up and then would put it down. She wouldn't even sit by me like she does every nite-even when I called her over she wouldn't get up. Sorry to go on about this. I know this is not the place probably, but it's good to know you guys are here. Think I'll try to stay off this thread until I can get my "thoughts" together. It's like grieving for a person!! Take care all. Keep on losing!

Psyllium and ground flax are great sources of fiber. I've found that Trader Joe's has the best price for psyllium husk powder and we buy our flax seed (golden flax) online, although you can buy regular flax seed pretty reasonable in the bulk bins.

Every other day I have a smoothie for breakfast with 1 cup nonfat milk, 1 scoop Designer Whey vanilla protein mix, 1/2 scoop Balance vanilla shake mix (soy based), 1-1/2 tbsp. psyllium, 1 tbsp. ground flax seed, 1 small banana and a few ice cubes. I must say this is the most filling meal ever! I have no appetite for lunch on days when I have this shake and usually have something light for lunch and save my calories for dinner. All that protein gives me lots of energy too! The nutrition info is: 360 calories, 17%fat/51%carbs/32%protein

ripples - I hope your kitty comes home soon. I feel for you - I don't know what I'd do if one of my cats went missing they are "people in fur" to me.

floridarusty 06-20-2006 11:16 AM

well I had a deficit of 813....it's getting a bit higher....but we are still eating leftover Fathers Day food...but as of today that is all gone and back to a better eating plan and my WTPO dvd.

I might try making a protein drink for breakfast and see how that holds me, I use to drink them quite often. Now I am just having fruit and low cal. toast and on the days I exercise I add a piece of cheese or an egg for the energy.

Phyllis

Valerie Joy 06-20-2006 08:24 PM

Ripples I'm sorry to hear about your Kitty. I hope she returns soon!

Lynn & Phyllis good deficits! Keep up the great work!

Tuesday: 1275 calories, 1380 deficit, 40 minutes cardio, 20 minutes weights

slimkim 06-21-2006 01:12 AM

well I am down 3 lbs in a week.. i have been avg'n about 1 a week hope i can keep it closer to 2 that would be awesome!! see you all later..Kim

Lisi 06-21-2006 10:46 AM

Kim - super duper:carrot:

Penpal - your breakfast shake sounds super, glad to hear from another protein lover.
Could you tell me why you combine the 2 different protein powders? And why both psyllium and flax? I purchased the Designer Whey after looking over the nutritional label, but then when I got home the cholesterol jumped out at me. I used to use the Atkins shakes. I like that they are low in sodium. They have more fat but less cholesterol.
Thanks,
Elyse

LynneA 06-21-2006 11:13 AM

Grats Mel and Kim :).

I had a good deficit yesterday, 1000 again. I've been fluctuating between 173 and 176 for weeks now and am looking forward to when I eventually break this :censored: plateau.

Rebeca 06-21-2006 12:10 PM

Hellow everyone-

Hope all of you are doing Great and hope the kittys come home soon...

I have had a deficit > 1000 for two days...lets see if i can keep it up!

ddran143 06-21-2006 12:12 PM

Ripples- Sorry to here about your kittens. I hope she comes back.

Lynn & Phyllis Keep up the good work.

I have been flucuating. One week I was at 209 and now I am down at my same weight at 204 today. I started drinking 64oz of water a day.I had a 421 defecit yesterday

Lisi 06-21-2006 01:05 PM

Melissa , loved your crochetting. I'm knitting a baby blanket - hope it's done before she's married.
I'm back on track. Had a nice yogurt & blueberry shake this am and some veggies for a snack.

ripples57 06-21-2006 01:10 PM

I'm trying so hard to stay on program. I really have to force myself to do my exercises-but I have doing them-just not as intensely. I feel like I have no energy. I have been not eating enough for the past few days, but at lunch, I cheated and ate some of the kids (I do daycare) mac and cheese. At least it was Annie's all natural mac and cheese. I felt nauseous afterwards. Guess I won't do that again. When I get hungry later I will just eat lots of salad and some chicken. Layla still has not come home. I think I'm going to go for a walk tonite in the woods with my dog and just keep hoping we find her. I feel so helpless. At least I'll feel like I'm doing something-and I could use the exercise! Everyone's doing great on their weight loss. Last time I checked I was down one pound. Take care everyone. Thanks for the good vibes.

Valerie Joy 06-21-2006 03:11 PM

Kim congrats on the 3 pounds! Thats great :cp:

Mel congrats on the pound! :cheer:

Ripples good luck staying OP. You know you can do it!

I'm OP so far today :)

floridarusty 06-21-2006 06:47 PM

defecit of 1131.....one of my better days.....weight is still staying still.

I guess I should be happy I'm not going UP!!!

Phyllis

Valerie Joy 06-21-2006 11:02 PM

Phyllis we seem to be in about the same place now. About the same deficit and the same weight. We should be dropping the pounds! I'm still hoping for a loss this week!

1494 calories, 1222 deficit, 55 minutes curves

LynneA 06-22-2006 02:53 PM

No deficit for yesterday, my dinner at my friends turned out to be higher calorie than I thought! I did run 5k on the treadmill though yesterday so I'm happy with that :).

LynneA 06-23-2006 09:39 AM

Morning All :).

I'm the first one this morning? :D

Deficit yesterday of 800, not bad considering I did no exercise.

The scales have not shifted again this week so I am fully accepting I am in plateau mode. I'm going to try refigure some things on my menu for next week, adding in some more lean protein and see what happens.

T.G.I.F!!!!!!!!!!

floridarusty 06-23-2006 10:53 AM

Valerie, yes were in the same place!! I seem to be stuck but I will hang in there...trying to up the exercise a bit to see if that helps but was up .5 lb this a.m......YUCK

Phyllis

clarabr 06-23-2006 12:44 PM

Hey guys,

Is it me or has this thread been a little slow lately?

Gaaah, I'm a little frustrated. I've lost only 1/2 lb in the past 2 weeks. I lowered my cals last Monday (from about 1650 to 1400), so I hope that'll help. Besides, 2 weeks without a loss probably means my body is ready to let go of some weight. At least that's what I hope.

In other news, I'm thinking maybe I should buy a treadmill. The only exercise I've ever been able to stick to is walking, but my walks are too susceptible to weather conditions and to my schedule. Take today, for instance. I'll be free after about 5:30 or 6, and it'll be dark by then, so no exercise. If I had a treadmill, I could exercise at home. But then I used to have one, and I hated it! So I'm torn. It's so much nicer to walk in the street. Sigh...

ChicCityChick 06-23-2006 01:04 PM

Hi,

I'm shopping around for a weight loss method and have some questions:

Does everyone here log onto the computer to track the calories?

Are there any hand held thingies out there?

I like to try for 10,000 steps on my pedometer--how many calories IS that?

I found something online that told me I need to eat 1200 cal/day to lose weight so I know that much...

Thanks!

Diana

Valerie Joy 06-23-2006 05:19 PM

Hi Everyone!

I have good news I lost 4 pounds at my weigh in today! Bringing my June total up to 5 pounds and my complete total up to 70 pounds!! :)

Clara I really don't think of this thread as being slow. I see regular posting here everyday. ! I love using a treadmill at my gym. I burn around 400 calories in 40 minutes. I also do 5 minute intervals of maximum incline.

Chic I use http://fitday.com to track my calories. I think you'll find it very useful. I'm not sure how many calories 10,000 steps would be for you but I'm guessing it would probably be around a few hundred?

ripples57 06-23-2006 08:04 PM

Way to go Valerie!!:dizzy: You must be so proud of your loss so far-and 5 pounds in one month!! That's a WHOLE bag of sugar you left behind!!! LOL. Keep up the good work. I've been trying very hard to eat more protein these past few days. I haven't been eating enough-I miss my dear cat Layla so much. Still praying for a miracle that she will return. Well have a great weekend. Nite all.

Valerie Joy 06-24-2006 01:56 PM

Thanks Ripples. I understand how you feel about your kitty. I'm a cat lover myself. I have 3 of my own and two foster kitties. I sure hope yours is found soon.

floridarusty 06-25-2006 09:47 AM

Congrats on the 4 lbs. Valerie....way to go.

We had a BIG dinner out last night for a friends anniversary at a german resturant and I didn't really know what I ordered....it was good but it was breaded and fried Weiner Spitzle??? with gravey (something like that) it was very good, I didn't eat it all but had 2 glasses of wine. (not even going to try to do my fitday)

So bottom line is it is a good thing I don't do my WI until Monday!!!!!

Going to drink tons of water today and do my WTPO dvd....maybe that will help...

Phyllis

clarabr 06-25-2006 03:51 PM

Hey guys,

I'm having a much higher calorie day today (1900 - about maintenance) because it was my aunt's birthday lunch (complete with cake - ate 1/2 slice). I've been having a higher day here and there (usually Sundays) and I'm finding it helps keep my sanity. And as long as I don't eat *above* maintenance level, it doesn't seem to hinder my (incredibly slow) progress. I've lost another 200 grams (a little under 1/2 lb) since about Tuesday. I'm learning to celebrate the small losses. Hey, a small loss is much better than a big gain! Or than any gain, for that matter.

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday!

ripples57 06-25-2006 08:54 PM

LOL Phyllis-I feel the same way about my Fitday. Started off yesterday burning 385 cal. in 45 min. on my eliptical which made me feel good, but I think I blew it at supper time. My own fault-DH LOVES to cook on the grill. I really wasn't all that bad. I just ate too much meat. Today, I helped DH mow 2 lawns that he does in the summer. We NEVER mow on weekends, but darn rain has not cooperated here in NY! I went for my 3rd ride on our Harley today, and we were going to stop and eat, but it started to sprinkle out, so we stopped at an ice cream stand instead. I was good. I ate a Perry's ff/sf raspberry cone. Sounded good, but it was so sweet, I only ate about a third of a baby cone. Yuck. Guess my taste buds have changed for the better anyway. Don't like sweets as much. NSV for me though-I fit into a pair of "used to be very tight" size 16 jeans that I haven't worn in about 5 yrs. That made me feel good. They were even comfortable sitting on the bike for 3 hours!LOL!
I'm beginning to feel a little more accepting of my Layla disappearing. I have had a hard time dealing with her loss. I haven't given up hope, but at this point in time, all I can do is pray she is safe whether here on earth or up in "kitty heaven". I know in my heart that we've done all we can and if she doesn't come home, then it was meant for us to only have her for a short while. She has left quite an empty place in my heart and even my DH's as well as our dog. I hope she knows how much we love her. Well take care everyone. Think I'd better go to bed-OMG it's not even 9PM yet!! Must be getting old!

Lisi 06-26-2006 09:03 AM

VAL ER IE! VAL ER IE!:cheer: :woo: :cp:

That is super news. I'm looking forward to being at the weight you're at now.

I did well over the weekend, except for good ol late last night, which I'll make up for at least a bit today, by cutting back a bit, and walking extra. Amazing what some nice walking , 35 min with some slight inclines, does. It isn't just the walking time itself, you know, it raises the metabolism awhile.
Won't get to my goal by DGD visit Fri but should be down a couple more. Rain, please wait til I walk.

Clara ~ someone said there was a DVD that equates to walking. Anyone remember that? I know what you mean about the treadmill - can be both hard on the feet and boring - and loud. But that's our price.

So I'm rid of the damage done last week and starting from 210.4 this week - having lost the 3 uglies.

LynneA 06-26-2006 09:16 AM

Quick post as I'm supposed to be working :o .

Small deficits for the weekend, 300 each day, still not complaining :).

Kicked butt at the gym this morning with an hour of cardio, so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Your cat not come back yet Ripples? I've had no sign of mine either, it's been over 3 weeks now so I'm pretty much accepting that he's not coming back :( .
