Please excuse me while I get on my soapbox.
You should never be hungry!

One of the reasons we stop everything and start filling our faces is hunger. From your calorie range you must learn how to find the biggest food for your calorie buck. You must learn to eat foods that keep you full longer. You must learn to eat often enough that you don't get ravenously hungry. My stomach very very very seldom growls. It didn't even on 1200 cals.

Oh and here's the old me.

Michelle? I don't know how to make a pic small enough for an avatar :?:

floridarusty 06-15-2006 11:50 AM

Susan.....Wow you look wonderful....what an inspiration!!! Beautiful family too.

Phyllis

Michelle 06-15-2006 11:50 AM

SUSAN... Whatever picture you put in the avatar location, it automatically sizes it down. Atleast for me it did, and it even shrunk mine down more than others and I don't know why, but it did.:?:

ripples57 06-15-2006 12:13 PM

Susan, beautiful wedding pics. You look "mahvelus"! I figured out how to get a pic on my avatar yesterday and I am NOT computer literate at all. I couldn't believe I didn't need my DH help! I did not have to "shrink" down my picture at all. I just brought it up from the file and it automatically made the picture fit. So glad to find this thread and looking forward to being a part of it everyday.

ddran143 06-15-2006 12:15 PM

I havent been on in calorie range as much this week because of of the "PMS-Monster" coming out.I have been on track under my range(1300-1700) the past couple of days now and I am back to normal. My appitite just shoots through the roof during that time.Any suggestions???

Michelle 06-15-2006 12:16 PM

RIPPLES... Your pic is SO cute!;) When you put your pic on, did it just automatically size it for you? Mine used to be larger, and I've noticed some other people's avatars are much larger than mine, but one day, it just shrunk down on it's own and I still don't know why?:?:

Rebeca 06-15-2006 12:26 PM

Susan- Just open the picture on pain and scale it down! Then add to the avatar!

srmb60 06-15-2006 01:18 PM

Ya know what? I'm not that excited about looking at my own old wrinkled mug every day. Maybe one of these days I'll try it. Maybe when the 'good' wedding pictures are all ready!

ripples57 06-15-2006 02:06 PM

Thanks Michelle. It "shrunk" by itself. I just brought up the file and it was sized down -doesn't seem to have cropped any out of my original. This is my new baby Layla (DH is a Clapton fan) DD took me to Petsmart back in Nov.We were supposed to be buying DOGFOOD for our spoiled dogs LOL!! Couldn't resist her. She was a shelter kitten. I missed my old black cat Bear so much-she was 20 yrs old when we had her put down last year. This one is just beautiful. They call her a Tortie-she looks like a black calico to me-which is funny b/c Bears mommy was a calico so we figure she's a cross of each. She's black w/brown mottling. Funny thing is she looks a lot like our 7 yr. old shelter mutt! She LOVES the plants as you can see! Thanks.

clarabr 06-15-2006 02:47 PM

Hehe, Layla is cute :smug:

Great pics, Susan! You're so skinny!

Let's see... yeah, I think I'm gonna stop saying I'll eat 1400 or fewer calories a day, because that just does NOT happen. Ever. Yesterday I ended up at 1580, and today will be even more (1700) because I had lunch out (I usually have all my meals at home, my work schedule allows me that, but today is a holiday). Sigh... I'm at *that* point in my weight loss plan... the point where I get discouraged. I am NOT giving up, don't get me wrong. It's just that it takes SUCH a long time. I haven't weighed myself in a week, but I'm sure I haven't lost any weight. I know all I need to do is hang in there, and that's what I intend to do. But it's hard... I'm sure 3fc will help me with that.

srmb60 06-15-2006 03:42 PM

Clara! Don't you dare dessert us! Post your foods for a day and we'll help you tweak then down a few cals.

REBECCARAE 06-15-2006 03:48 PM

Newbie

Hi! I was feeling guilty about the extremely large lunch I ate and Googled "guilty, ate too much". So here I am. I am a calorie counter and have lost 60 lbs, however, I have gained back 10 in the last few months after maintaining for a year. I been chasing the cart for awhile now and cannot seem to lose weight again. It seems like everytime I get a few good days in we end up going to restaurants several times a week. I have lost my resolve to eat healthier when dining out, and would love to have it back again. I am determined to not be a fattie again and will not give up! It just seems so hard!!!

srmb60 06-15-2006 04:21 PM

It's hard REBECCARAE, you're right! And once in a while we all pitch it in the trash bucket and say "BRING ME FOOD". But we recover ...

What if instead of guilty you called it mindfully aware that this isn't going to get you to goal? The next time you're in a restaurant perusing the menu, remain mindfully aware of what is going to get you to a slender, healthy weight.

ripples57 06-15-2006 04:42 PM

Well, I hear ya ladies! It can get me down too. It was so hard and such a let down for 2 months when I didn't see any change, but I hung in there and I REFUSE to ever slide again. It would take something really drastic to make me do that again. After doing WW for the 4th time in 20+ years, it's time to wake up to reality. I don't have FOREVER to be healthy, so I'm going to stick with a healthy way of eating and if I lose weight in the process, great-if not-oh well, I'll die tryin right? My philosophy is now that I'm almost 49 and DH is 50 in July, I need to do something to make me feel good about me~I raised 3 great kids that include 2 daughters-29 and 25 who are teachers and a son who is 23 and a plumber/electrician. They are great people. Guess we did ok so now it's time for me and DH to have the time of our lives and be grateful for all we have. He just bought a motorcyle last fall-a used Harley Electra Glide Classic used. I rode it Sunday for the first time and I absolutely LOVED it. Thought I would be nervous, but I wasn't in the least. We only live once, so I'm gonna go in style. As I said at my last WW meeting, if I die tomorrow, no one can say I didn't try to be healthy eh? We are all here on this thread for each other and I am so glad I found it the other day. Hang in there! We can do this. BTW Susan- I feel the same way you do about the camera. I have been shy of it for years. If I can, I will someday post some before and afters-although I don't have much to pick from b/c everytime someone picks the camera up, I hide LOL!!

Oh, I'm not going anywhere! I may whine, but I'll stay here :D . Thanks for the encouragement. The thing is, since I can't go too low in calories (I just *can't*, it'd trigger awful binging), I must accept the fact that it'll take a long time to lose this weight. But it's not that much, it's only about 10 lbs. It'll probably take about 4 months. I just have to keep doing it! There's this blog I read for encouragement too. It's by a girl who's been losing weight for 3+ years. She's lost 92 lbs and now it's been reeeaaallly slow. Like 1-2 lbs a month tops. And she just NEVER gives up. I'm trying to learn from her. I'd post a link here, but the blog is in Portuguese. Anyway, if she can do it, so can I, right? Right?? :D

ddran143 06-15-2006 06:14 PM

Melissa- What is your calorie range ??

srmb60 06-15-2006 06:35 PM

Hi Dee! And welcome! We love new people. Did you post an intro some where? Or you could just tell us a bit about you.

Lisi 06-15-2006 09:37 PM

Too many posts to read!!!!!! I want to say Susan, you looked very chic, and of course , great figure.
Layla good name.
night

violet32 06-16-2006 08:13 AM

Ok, this morning I woke up and I weigh 219 pounds so I am going to officially change my ticker tonight! I did the happy dance this morning right on top of the bathroom scale :) I can't believe I am finally under 220! Now...my next goal is 210.

Susan, your picture is great! You are soooo tiny :)

Mel, I totally agree about calorie counting being great because of the flexability. It is important to be able to treat yourself once in awhile. I lost part of my weight doing South Beach, but my sweet tooth got the better of me..he he.
I like with calorie counting that is I want something sweet I just save the calories for it and I eat it guilt free :)

Lisi, Thanks for the encouragement :) That is great that you got to 205- that must have been a fabulous feeling! You will get back there again!

srmb60 06-16-2006 08:31 AM

Good morning everyone! For yesterday I have a deficit of about 450 calories.

I'm having some qualms about 'keeping it simple' and then encouraging folks to figure out their deficit .... I'll have to think on that.

Rebeca 06-16-2006 11:35 AM

Clara- I am from Belo Horizonte, I miss it sooo much! How is brazil going??? I will be there in December to celebrate the HEXA! LOL

Mel- I have never dieted before so you are probably right! I am hungry enough with 1200 calories though!

ddran143 06-16-2006 11:42 AM

Susan - yes, I just posted a new forum yesterday. About me... well I live in Northern California.I have no kids and currently attending nursing school. I have always had a problem with my weight since i was 12.So for each year I turned on my birthday, that was my size.So now I am trying to get back on the right track before school starts again. I have had no problems with excercise its just the food part.

Mel- I think my calorie count is too high then I have a 1300-1700 range.

NO WAY!!! I didn't realize you were Brazilian too! :D How long have you lived in the US? Hexa, uh? Did you see our first game? We were awful!

Back on topic, I weighed myself this morning and I've *gained* weight. Argh! I've gained 300 grams (a little over 1/2 lb). I know, I know, these things happen. Sigh... Plan for today is 1600 calories.

Rebeca 06-16-2006 02:04 PM

Clara- I have been here for 6years..We definately need to get better...i was really disappointed! I must say your English is very good! I havent been home in all of this time so i want to and NEED TO get in shape before i go!

Also 1/2 is not considered a weight gain because unfortunally our weight fluctuates even 2lbs! Just drink lots of water and you will be fine!

Thanks! Well, I teach it for a living, so it's supposed to be semi-decent :D .

Wow, I can't believe you haven't been here all this time! I'd be incredibly homesick.

Sigh... yeah, let's hope this weight is just water. Or simply my body rebelling against the calorie restriction. In one of my most recent attempts at weight loss I was stuck at the exact same weight for 18 days before it finally decided to let go of some weight. Then I lost 3 lbs in like 2 days. Not an uncommon thing to happen, apparently.

Valerie Joy 06-16-2006 11:26 PM

Hi everyone!

If I drop down to 1200 or 1300 calories a day I'm really hungry! I was loosing consistantly at 1600 to 1700 calories a day but now I'm stuck at the same calories. I probably need to drop it down a bit but I'm just too hungry and lower calories.

Friday: 1747 calories, 932 deficit, 45 minutes curves

srmb60 06-17-2006 09:01 AM

Valerie, nosy old me had a look at your fitday and have a couple of suggestions for trimming a few calories.
Oatmeal is a lovely filling food with very little fat.
The pria bar is better than the zone one, yes?
Crunchy raw vegetables.
Do you like salad?

A simple method is to look at your fitday and find the things with the most calories and see if you can tweak them somehow. Like the roastbeef sandwich ... chicken has less fat.

Ignore me if you'd like :)

Michelle 06-17-2006 09:51 AM

SUSAN... Your previous post really helped me with some suggestions. One thing I do really like is oatmeal, and I have eaten it every day for over a year now. It's something that I still crave every day, it helps me to feel full for a long time, and it even has helped me lower my cholesterol level from 239 down to 214 so far.:^:

floridarusty 06-17-2006 10:09 AM

Hi, just checking in....I need to go finish my fitday for yesterday....but my weight has stayed the same so I believe that I am eating too many calories the last couple of days. I'll go find out.

Michelle I love oatmeal, I think I will start eating it every a.m. also....my cholesterol needs to improve and it seems to satisfy me and last longer. Thanks for the reminder.

Phyllis

floridarusty 06-17-2006 11:18 AM

Deficit

well, only 480 so I am eating too much. 2100 calories yesterday. I went to CalorieKing and they say to lose weight I should only have 1385 cals./day.
That seems low but I will give it a try after Fathers Day....as I have to cook special meals for my dh today and tomorrow.....So Monday I will start trying.

Happy Fathers Day to any daddies on board.....:)

Phyllis

Michelle 06-18-2006 10:00 AM

MEL -- I've talked about this before, but I love oatmeal, have eaten it every morning for over a year now, and I never get tired of it, I actually still crave it! I love that it does keep you full for so long, and I do eat it plain with skim milk. I have had high cholesterol for years, and in March when I had it checked again with all of my other yearly stuff, it had gone down from 239 to 214! It is very true when they say that oatmeal can help reduce your cholesterol level!;)

clarabr 06-18-2006 10:14 AM

I tried to eat oatmeal for a while last year because everyone keeps raving about how filling it is, but it didn't do anything for me. I mean, I found it kind of gross and it kept me just as full as my regular morning cereal (all bran or another high-fiber cereal). I made it with skim milk and sweetener. What am I missing here? :?: Any suggestions?

Valerie Joy 06-18-2006 01:16 PM

Susan thanks for the recomendations. I should start eating more oatmeal! The roast beef sandwich was actually a special treat. I won an auction at curves for a gift certificate at a pub. I normally do eat a lot of chicken! I lost a 1/2 a pound at my weigh in this week so HOPEFULLY it will be a full pound at my next weigh in so I can move my ticker!

violet32 06-18-2006 05:54 PM

I eat oatmeal sometimes too..when I eat it I like those little preflavored instant packets. Cinnamon is my favorite. I usually eat weird breakfasts. I am much more likely to eat a turkey sandwich, LOL.

Valerie, I hope you have a GREAT weigh in! I just looked at your ticker and I am so impressed...What a fabulous feeling it must be to be in ONEderland!

I did pretty good today- my deficit is 1374 :)
I also have a non-scale victory to report- Yesterday I went to a festival with my family and my Mother bought me tee in size medium! I thought it would never fit but it did :) It must have been a very big medium, but still...I have been wearing XL for several months now. So, after that I got up the bravery to try on my long awaited goal- wearing size 16 pants. I went to the store and tried on a pair and they fit! They were not even tight. I think I did a little dance right there in the dressing room I was so happy! I also tried on some shirts and the medium tees fit, but I think they are just starting to make them bigger or something, so I will consider myself a large, LOL.

srmb60 06-18-2006 06:50 PM

Piece de Resistance Oatmeal

Make your oatmeal in advance and put 1/2 cup measures in containers in the fridge. In the morning throw 3 egg whites and 1/4 cup low fat milk in your food processer and add one of your container of oats. Whiz and then microwave for 2 minutes. Stir it up and eat. It's lovely and sorta custard-y.
You can toss some protein powder and psyllium husks in too, to muscle it up some.

ripples57 06-19-2006 09:48 AM

Hey all. I haven't been on this thread since Friday. We had a very busy weekend. I stayed OP 90% of the time. I had a great day yesterday with DH and all 3 of my grown children were here! That doesn't happen too often that they are all here at the same time. I've got to do my Fitday-I didn't have time this weekend.
I have something off topic that I need to just get off my chest--my dear cat Layla was left outside Saturday nite-and we have not seen her since. My heart is broken-so is my husband's. It's all my fault b/c I let her out about 8:30 and went to bed an hour later forgetting to let her back in. My DH feels bad b/c he was still up until 11:00 and didn't realize this. At about 1:30 am I woke up to the sound of cats fighting or doing something else so I went downstairs and opened the door and called to her. The cats stopped "screaming" and I called her again-still no Layla. So I thought she must have come in when my son arrived after I'd gone to bed. When I woke up and went to feed her, I then realized I forgot her!! I feel soooo guilty and awful. I can't sleep, I have no appetite. I'm so afraid she's so scared she ran away-or even worse-that she's not even alive. Our neighbors have a big barn and they have "wild cats" that they have fed over the years. I've had other cats before with no problems, but I can't help but wonder if one of these cats hurt her or worse. Guess I should have kept her as an indoor cat but I have never had a cat that didn't go outdoors. Please do me a favor and say a prayer for her today. I feel like my heart is being ripped out. I know there are alot worse things in this world that are happening right now, but I am so attached to my animals. Sorry to ramble, but I just needed to tell someone.

Michelle 06-19-2006 10:27 AM

RIPPLES -- I'm so sorry and feel so bad for you. People can be very attached to their animals and think of them just as their children. I will say a prayer in hopes that she will come home soon!

Rebeca 06-19-2006 11:02 AM

Good Morning everyone-
I see that you guyz had a busy weekend! I have a couple of NSV to share: One good friend of mine told me that I am getting a great body! She knows me for a long time and its the first time she says that so i was really proud. Then yesterday my dad told me that I have lost a lot of weight! So that was good too...

My deficit for the week was 5826!
