Hi everyone - I'm new here and have a question. I've recently started zig-zagging my calories, but I have a hard time using FitDay or Nutridiary because of seeing those negative balances on my higher days. Is there a website out there that allows you to customize the calorie intake by day?

I always just use fitday. Maybe just don't go to the page that has the calorie deficit information on your high days--you can enter food and see your total caloriea mounts without going to that particular page Anyway, it shouldn't bother you so much--you know you're going to balance out your highs with some lows throughout the week

Hello, hello!

I've been out for the past 10 days on Spring Break (I went mild-mannered: home with my family)! I've been a little up and down what with the sudden influx of home cooking, but I stayed strong with small portion sizes and smaller, more frequent meals. What have I missed? I hope everyone's had a great week and that this one proves productive as well.

I see yas around!

Great job, dg!

My calorie-cycling train went crashing into a brick wall I haven't even been keeping track of my calories--my Fitday has days and days of empty food logs, and I can assure you I was not actually starving myself on those days I need to get back into the swing of things, so I have already planned/accounted for my food for today in my Fitday--a little under 1100 calories, so a good low day for me to ge tthings back on track

Default Low Days

Hey, new to calorie counting...I was doing weight watcher's but found it was too easy for me to cheat! (0 point foods etc) I'm using fitday and I've been finding that it really helps for me to enter it all in a day ahead of time and then adjust accordingly. Just wondering what you guys would think as far as what your lowest day should be. My high day isn't even all that high...about 2200 which I usually only have one a week my average days (most) are around 1300 but my low days are sometimes coming between 900 and 1000 calories. I'm still eating a lot ... just no treats . I would welcome any thoughts.

haha no, but thanks for asking The PMS monster has struck hard, and I haven't been keeping up with my fitday at all. There is food in there for today and the past few days, I think, but it was what I had planned, not what I really ended up eating

I do this type of dieting. I eat bigger meals 1500- 4 days a week and 1,000 the others. I feel great and lose weight every week. Eat your maintenance 3-4 times a week and dont count the other days, but dont over-eat and every fri have a free day. This calorie cycleing works great for me. If you like tuna i found the below to help fill me on the low cal days

2 slices of liter 35 wheat bread- 70cals
2 pickles - about 10cals
tablespoon of FF kraft mayo 10 cals
tablespoon of sugar free relish- 0
1 package of carb options cream of chicken 25 cals
2 sugar free jellos - 20 cals
tuna pack pouch - 90 cals
chopped onions- 0

add all the ingredients mayo, relish, tuna, onions and mix into tuna salad the onions make it more filling. use the bread a their you go a great meal. During the meal down a poland spring water and or deep park bottle to help fill you. I bet after you eat that second sugar free jellow you WILL be full and happy

225 calories for a filling great tasting meal

add an apple if you wish a mmmm mmm fillign and good plus the carb option soup adds that HOT part of the meal to make it feel better / soup mostly water fills you up

If I fall under 1,000 i dont care some days I eat ALOT of food and still fall under b/c the stuff i am eating is not high fat but filling. Hey who came up with the 1,000 thing anyway. EVERYONE is diffrrent plus 1 day without a 1,000 cals is NOT going to kill you. Look at the starving kids worldwide, if they can go with 300 cals a day i can do 800 once in a while, Plus taking daily vit's i think helps

Default Thanks

Thanks Tank, I am taking daily vitamins and this week I am averaging out to 1400 calories in fitday with 2400 going out so according to my calculations should equal a 2 lb. weight loss this week! Feeling awesome and I sure enjoy having my big weekend day to have a nice meal out (and of course a couple drinks )

Tank--the reason they say not to go below a certain amount (and that amount is usually 1200, not 1000) is that it is extremely difficult to get enough nutrients at that level. You can take supplemental pills and whatnot to your heart's content, but unless you properly fuel your body, you won't even have enough to absorbwhat is in those pills, so they just flow through you!

Also, I don't typically see (well-informed) people saying that you should NEVER go below 1200 (or 1000), just that you shouldn't do it all the time. If you're eating that little every single day, then yes, it can become both dangerous AND can be a diasadvantage. Example: I was eating 1200 calories a day, and I lost some weight for a while, but then it just stopped, and I didn't lose any weight for about 3 months. Then I INCREASED my calories to about 1600 and BAM lost another 10 pounds in under a month

KriWes--Congrats on keeping track of everything! I know with a 1000 daily calorie deficit, you should lose 2 pounds a week, but fair warning: it may not happen at that exact pace. Don't get discouraged if you only lose, say, 1 pound each week for 3 weeks and then suddenly 5 pounds in one week...our bodies do strange things sometimes, but it all works out in the end! Not to mention that water retention and exercise and hormones and stress and so many other things can also affect the scale, not just calories in and calories out. How lovely for the world to make it so complex for us

Thanks a lot for the encouragement Jill. I definately need it to keep going because I often look for immediate results and when I don't see it, I am tempted to give up. With working out and eating fairly well I been seeing fairly steady results. How do I post my fitday account link? I would love to get some input from you ladies who have done and are doing so well at reaching your goals. I know quite a bit about nutrition and exercise but knowing and doing are two different things! Thanks girls!

When you log into your fitday account, click on Home on the left. The link to show others your info is at the bottom of that page called Public Journal. You can copy and paste that link and put it in a message, in your signature, or now you can even put it over in your left sidebar.
