Hi everyone. I've been counting calories for the past month and have lost only a couple lbs. I have lost inches though which I guess it the important thing to me, but I find it a llittle discouraging to see that the scale isn't moving and then this week it says I gained 2 lbs!!! I don't know how....

Anyways, I'm 26, 192 lbs and 5 ft 5in tall. I've been eating between 1200-1400 calories. I did go over on Fri night though and ate about 2300. I also have been doing 30 mins walking/jogging on the treadmill every day.

Can someone tell me how I should cycle my calories. I really need to get off of this little plateau that I've seemed to find myself on but just can't seem to figure out how to do it?

One method I have heard is to take your desired calorie amount (however many you eat each day in order to lose regularly), subtract 100 calories and have that amount each day for 4 days, then on the 5th day, spike it up 400 calories OVER the original amount (so if your amount was 1500, then you would eat 1400 for 4 days and then 1900 for a day). That won't give you a 7-day pattern, but it's a start. I never really had a set pattern--I just go really low (like around 1000-1200) for 3 days, then mid-range for 2 days, then high for 2 days and play with the math until I get the number I want (which is 1800 daily average each week).

Well, my menu today definitely changed...we hit Burger King for dinner But I actually ended up with even FEWER calories than planned earlier Here's what I had:
  • leftover chocolate cake from work party
  • 1 Boca burger on wheat bun w/Miracle Whip
  • BK kid's meal (4-pc chicken tenders and small fried w/diet coke)--it said 4-pc chicken tenders on the menu, but it was actually 5 little crown-shaped nuggets...I'm assuming that the 5 little nuggets would be the same as 4 regular tenders, so that's how I counted it (based on the nutritional info on their website)--OH, and I just had ketchup with the chicken instead of my usual honey mustard, ranch dressing, or other super-sugary sauce
Total of 1077 calories but don't look at my nutrients for the day

I'm so excited about yesterday and the total control I had over BK (rather than letting BK control me!). I will be on track again today, too! Here's the plan:
  • yogurt
  • 2 Boca burgers on wheat buns w/Miracle Whip
  • chicken, bbq sauce, and shredded cheese on whole wheat tortillas--last time, I tried to make quesedillas, but they were soooo messy, so I think this time I'll try to make them more like little burritos and see how that works. Even if we end up having to eat them with a fork (again), they're very yummy and don't take long to make
Per Fitday, that's about 918 calories (although I'll have to check my package of cheese to get that number right--I estimated, but I know the Fitday cheese calories never match up with the nutrition labels ).

great job on your portion control at BK!! It's never easy to stop eating fries and I really love their chicken tenders w/ sweet and sour sauce.

mmm...Subway...I get the same exact thing EVERY time I go, even if we go more than once a week. You'd think I'd get sick of it, but I just can't get enough of their chicken teriyaki on honey oat with lettuce and sweet onion sauce--very simple and extremely delicious! I've been trying to get myself to get chips agian instead of cookies (since the cookies have about 230 calories EACH ), but they never seem to have my favorite chips when I go (cool ranch doritos, baby!). As long as I keep counting every single calorie...is it sad that I look forward to Thursday night dinner so much (that is when we go to Subway each week--after my TOPS meeting, of course)

The hardest part about the BK trip was that while I had my little chicken nuggets and small fry, Jeff had a huge, cheesy burger with bacon and mayo...it looked SO GOOD! But I know I made the right choice

haha, nonexistant, as per usual I hardly like any veggies at all (and I have tried them fresh, steamed, cooked, grilled, up-side-down and sideways! ) aside from corn and potatoes (which might as well not even count as veggies for all the carbs and calories!). I do like broccoli, but only cooked to a mushy pulp and drowned in some sort of sauce, which sort of defeats the purpose I can't stand carrots or celery or cauliflower or peppers (I've tried red, green, yellow, and orange)...I don't mind cucumbers sometimes, but they have the nutritional value about the same as water, so I don't bother trying to make a point to eat them. I figure I've survived 23 years without enough veggies, so why start worrying about it now? I'm getting enough fiber from somewhere to keep me, ahem, "regular," and my yearly blood work doesn't turn up any major deficiencies, so I don't stress the veggies

ha, yeah, how's that for a long-winded answer to a short little question? I'm good at that

I'm doing well today--I planned out my food for tomorrow already and planned for Thursday as well. I ended today at only 852 calories, so maybe I will have a lower average this week when all is said and done

My last 2 days have been really low cal. Not that I'm trying to go extremely low, that's just how my menus have been panning out. I've been eating mostly vegetables and fish and chicken.

haha, ya got me feelin' all guilty about the vegatables, so for lunch tomorrow, I made a salad--lettuce, 1/3 cup yellow frozen corn, a little Mexican blend shredded cheese, salsa, and ff sour cream. It's not much for veggies, but at least I'll get what's in the salsa, so it's probably better than what's in the veggie burger I would have had (less sodium, too, which is always a plus!)

So here's my total plan for tomorrow (since I already planned it and am here now anyway):
  • yogurt
  • the aforementioned salad
  • Campbell's Soup at Hand (chicken n' stars)
  • chicken parmesam (boneless, skinless chicken breast baked w/tomato sauce and Italian blend shredded cheese) swerved w/wheatspaghetti and tomato sauce
That all comes to about 970 calories (but we'll see how it really turns out--I planned for that soup a few times before and never ate it, and today I didn't even eat my yogurt for breakfast ).

Have I lost all of my fellow calorie cyclers?

Well, I weighed in at my TOPS meeting last night with a 3.5-pound loss, so I am down 5 pounds in 2 weeks--calorie cycling is definitely doing me some good!
