Diva - I can relate to the article. I definitely eat to reward myself and when i am bored and when i am feeling lonely etc. I know its something i need to work on.
karen - I agree that the exercise challenge is overwhelming. I try to have 2 rest days a week which puts me at over an hour and a half of exercise every other day. while i know its a little much right now i am using it as a motivator to to try and achieve more exercise than i have been. but dont look at it as YOU are failing. you might not be meeting the challenge but you still are succeeding with your exercise. |

I've never participated in a Red Wins, so I have no opinion on that yet. ;) But I am willing to work on being nice to myself, trying my best to get in healthy foods (when $$ allows), getting in at least 30 minutes of exercise, getting plenty of sleep, drinking my 6 or more glasses of water, wearing sunscreen :D and trying some new veggies out. :) |

 You too Tina! Hope you had a nice walk w/ your SIL and lunch with your MIL. |
I don't even know what badges are or keep up with any exercise challenges in addition to TBL challenge in general. Seriously, unless I had a job where I sat in front of a computer all day and a boss who didn't pay attention to what I was doing, I'd never find time for all of that!
I am feeling pretty OP today & yesterday but I am having way too many carbs. My issue right now is that we have less money to spend on food (thanks to rising costs of everything except DH's salary), and let's face it, most healthy foods cost more than unhealthy ones. A box of mac & cheese is 40 cents but a bell pepper is $2, KWIM? It's frustrating. I'm trying to be creative, but healthy AND cheap is proving to be a tough combination for me. |

Here are some ideas for you: Oatmeal - use for breakfast, use in meat as filler (if you do don't have bread), make your own granola, make breakfast cookies with dried fruit (YUM!), or use for oatmeal pancakes. Cream of Wheat - cheap and easy breakfast Yogurt - not bad for cost, but you can make your own very easily. Look at hillbillyhousewife.com for instructions. Eggs - Boiled, scambled, omelets, etc. Cheap and versatile! Also make meangue (spelling??) cookies for a fat free, low cal cheap treat! Cheese - cheaper if you buy a block and grate/slice your own Sandwich meat - can get very expensive.....so roast a chicken and shred with seasoning for chicken sandwiches and chicken salad. Making a turkey and slicing the breast meat for sandwiches can be cheap. Try buying a roast on sale. Make the roast and feed your family. Shred and season for lunch meat whatever is left. Bread - you can make this much cheaper than you can buy. If you want a low cal whole wheat bread recipe let me know. I have one that is GREAT! When I checked cost it was like 72 cents a loaf when I make 4 loaves. Rice - Cheap and easy to make. You can use as a filler, a side dish by seasoning with taco spice, cilantro, cream of soup, etc. Beans - You can add these to anything and get extra protein and fiber! I also grind my oatmeal and use as flour in many different recipes! I have been in a spot where I have to feed my family of four for a month on about 100 dollars and have luckily done it. Let me know if I can help in any way. I have a lot of recipes for mixes and things so you don't have to buy the premade. It will save you a ton. Quote:

For breakfast I prefer my Cheerios & 2% Milk (that's the lowest I can the family to go on that and @$4.28 a gallon..well...). I mix it up sometimes an do the Low sugar oatmeal, or eggs and My "Earthgrains extra Fiber Wheatbread". That stuff is good and about the only wheat bread I can stand. it cost almost $4. I am glad a loaf lasts me 2 weeks. They buy their White bread from the local Bread store where it's WAY cheaper than any grocery store. I like to have fruit and veggies for lunch, but right now I am doing roasted Turkey or chicken sandwich. I have Special K protein bars & Hershey's Kisses for snacks and/or a sweet tooth fix. Sunflower seeds, Mixed nuts, almonds. So Daytime eating is fine. :) I'm not really a big yogurt, or rice eater. We buy the Walmart brand cheese because it's $1.98 and they won't eat any other unless it's LandOLakes. As for beans, I am really the only who would eat those too, so.... |

For today: brek - cereal w/soy milk (cheaper then cow milk these days ladies and better for you!!) snack - pretzels and .5oz almonds lunch - tofurky sandwich on wheat with romaine, onions and sprouts (can grow your own!!) snack - blackberries and kumquats (I buy whatever fruit is on sale for the week or try to get to the farmers markets) dinner- black bean and edamame chili over brown rice maybe some soy delicious ice cream if hungry after the gym |
I LOVE Navel oranges. Those are a MUST have in my house. :) We are going to have to sit down and take a better look at the grocery budget and see what we can do. I can't keep eating them processed foods. My scale has gone up almost 2 lbs since last week, even with the exercising. I may have to let them decided what they want for dinner and I'll just become a little vegetarian, lol. Which will be hard. I'm a meat and potatoes kind of gal. I used to make sure we had bananas in here always, but for some reason, they go bad really fast anymore.;)

Okay, so I've been thinking about this. I wrote in last week's thread (towards the end so I'm not sure how many of you saw it) that while I think the Beach Hopping challenge is great, it's just frustrating to me. There is no way with my 2 jobs that I have the time and energy to exercise for 8 1/2 hours in a week. I got so frustrated that I quit trying. I can get in 4 -6 hours a week which is a great accomplishment for me, but somehow it felt like I failed because I couldn't get in the 7 1/2 hours last week to get a badge. Again - this is not a complaint against the challenge but more of a "thinking out loud" frustration with my life. When I try the best I can and still fall short, it really gets to my spirit (something in my personality - I'm admittedly very emotional and take things to heart more than most).
Karen as long as you're moving, you're winning!! I didn't even come close the first week of the beach challenge, but I just gave it my best shot. This week's I think I need 90 min a day, I'm breaking it up into 2 workouts. If you have a pedometer, put it on and track your steps, those add up big time!! Don't get frustrated, just do what you can. |
I can pretty easily get 4 hours of exercise in a week. That's my base standard. I make 6 hours my goal. Sometimes I make it and sometimes I don't. I am very proud of both the 4 hours and the 6 hours when I make that especially since 6 months ago I was only getting 2 hours a week in. (And 2 years ago I was getting in zero.) Every once in a blue moon I can do 7 hours a week but that's about my maximum. Thanks for all of the kind words.

@$4.28 a gallon..
I wonder why it's like that in the south. My gf back home(Tx) said milk was around this price. I got it at Sam's yesterday for 2.66 and at the grocery store here in town, it's 2.99. |
