Mornin' Black Team!!

Man it's hard keeping up with you guys, such a busy thread.

I haven't lost any weight this week (sorry) but I did manage to lose 6.5" *yay me* I'm sure the weight loss will quickly follow, I've only been on my plan for 4 weeks now.

You're all doing so great, I predict that the Black Team's going to kick butt this challenge!! We rock!!!

Good morning teammates,

Just a quick hello - lots to do this weekend. I have to work extra hard because the weight just sticks to me like glue. Hoping that a humongous housecleaning session will help tip the scale numbers.

Be back tonight - everyone have a good Saturday!

I'm so excited for the release of WiiFit too... wonder if it'll be released here in Canada on the same day as it is in the US. I hope so!

Hey everyone!

This is my first post in the chat for the week, kinda late on the whole competition. Tomorrow is the first weigh-in. I don't think it's gonna be good. But I have to start from somewhere and I am determined to succeed!

Anyways today is the start of something great. I can feel it.

Yes it is! Go black!

I got a Nike Imara HRM watch yesterday and now all I want to do is work out so I can play with it. That's a good thing, I guess! Especially considering I've got 98 miles to go in the beach hopping challenge... Also, working out is something that I can do that is a)productive and b)not homework. That is my favorite kind of activity!

Hope everyone has a fabulous Saturday! Now if the weather would just warm up a little bit...

Hello Everyone!

To say this thread is busy is a real understatement isn't it?!?! I think I have been sitting here reading all the threads for the past several days for what feels like several days I honestly think I have sat here for over 3 hours! It's great that our team is so active!!! I thank my lucky stars for being placed on the Black Team!

I work odd hours which makes it difficult to be present here as much as I'd like. I work night shift... I work 7 days and then am off for 7 days; during the working days I don't have much time to do a lot other than work, sleep and eat... night shift is like that...messes up our body clocks. A couple of weeks ago I tried exercising after work and ended up getting very sick for the following week. It was awful! I suppose I was pushing myself too hard. Anyway here I am, ready to join in and be probably the last person to fill in the "get to know you" questions:

Accent: Southern (I've lived in Georgia most of my adult life.) Currently live in Alabama where the accent is a lot more "hard" on the ears. Most people say I don't have much of an accent. I guess it's from moving around so much all over the country (Dad was in the military) and growing up in New Mexico.

Best Friend: Toss up between my husband and my sister...depends on the situation.

Chore I hate: Any chore requiring me get on my knees; my left one is weak.

Dad's name: Robert Bruce

Essential make-up product: lipstick

Favorite perfume: Shalimar

Gold or silver? White Gold mostly but I love my Indian jewelry too.

Hometown: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Interesting fact: Back-packed around Europe with my sister & had a great time...back when we were young and cute!

Job title: Charge nurse in a Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery (NICU)

Kids: None (unable to become preggers); love and adore my 2 nieces (11 & 6 year old absolute darlings if I do say so myself!)

Living arrangements: Live with my husband, his name is Guru (really!)

Mom's birthplace: Hamilton, Georgia

Number of apples eaten in the last week: 3

Overnight hospital stays: Too many to count. 13 kidney-bladder surgeries as a child. Last year spent 5 nights in hospital after having ovaries removed (all the scar tissue from childhood surgeries made what was supposed to be a 30 minute simple surgery turn into a major 3 1/2 hour laparotomy!) We call it the "nurse curse" when nurses are in hosptial because we often get every complication!

Phobia: I'm afraid of drowning for some reason...

Question you ask yourself a lot: I'm constantly thinking about what I will cook next and making out grocery lists. When I work the long 7 day stretch I have to really have everything planned out. It would be wonderful beyond belief to have a personal chef! I've been doing WW online for about a month now and am learning how to eat healthy foods... I'm totally out of my comfort zone but enjoying learning!

Religious affiliation: Christian, brought up as a Methodist

Siblings: 1 sister, Susan, 2 1/2 years younger than me; I actually look up to her in awe of all she does (single mom... you know how hard that is)

Time I wake up: It depends on which day it is. I tend to stay on a night schedule even during the days which I don't work.

Unnatural hair color: My hair is salt & pepper, mostly pepper. I used to have the hairdresser color it but I got so tired of the roots thing. I recently had a person ask me "Who does your highlights?". Surprised me! I told her "God" and we got a good chuckle out of it!

Vegetable I refuse to eat: I've never met a vegetable I didn't like.

Worst habit: Couch potato. I love to read and/or watch tv. Neither burns calories unfortunately!

X-tra info? I miss my beautiful Irish Setter, Jesse, who passed a way a few years ago. She was my true love pet. I'm ready emotionally for another pet but my lifestyle and yard are not proper for bringing a companion in to.

Yummy food I make: To my detriment I am a pretty good cook; my butt shows it too! I grew up cooking Southern food as well as New Mexican food (my parents family foods). My first mother-in-law was a great cook and taught me a lot about "American" meat & potatoes food. My current husband (of almost 8 years) Mom is from Serbia, Dad is from Orissa, India and my husband grew up in Greece where his Dad ran a bunch of paper mills from when my husband was 6 years old. From his Mom, who is an awesome cook, I have learned to cook Serbian/Hungarian food, Indian food and Greek food dishes. I have to say my favorite is the Indian food. Unfortunately most of all these recipes are not figure-friendly!

Zodiac sign: Virgo

Well I guess you know a good bit about me now. I am really proud to be on the Black Team with you all and very excited about how active our thread is too!!! I'm new to all of this and you all have been very informative. Can't wait to try all the great recipes you have shared too!

Let me give big to everyone for all their hard work and progress so far! I'm so proud of everyone!!!

I must sign off now so I can get a little walk in before I watch the Kentucky Derby this afternoon.

Ciao for now!

Gambaru, alas, you are not the last person to post the "getting to know you" info. I have a similar excuse. I'm also a nurse and work 12 hours shifts (3p-3a) in the Coronary/Medical ICU. Anyway...

Accent:Well, I live in Indiana, but a lot of people around here (Ft. Wayne) tell me that I have a Chicago accent.

Best Friend: Kelly, Beth, Amy, Corey, and of course Kurt (boyfriend)

Chore I hate: Dusting! Makes my allergies go CRAZY!

Dad's name: Jim

Essential make-up product: My bare face

Favorite perfume:

Gold or silver? White Gold

Hometown: Roanoke, Indiana (currently living in Ft. Wayne, IN)

Interesting fact: My high school job was working for myself as a piano instructor.

Job title: Registered Nurse, CMICU (Coronary Medical ICU)

Kids: Just my cat, Caesar! He's a bengal!

Living arrangements: In an apartment with Kurt, but we're in the process of building a house, which should be done at the beginning of August, and hopefully there will be less of me to move into said house. ;-)

Mom's birthplace: Hammond, IN (same as mine)

Number of apples eaten in the last week: 0

Overnight hospital stays: I was in the NICU for 3 days (I think) when I was born, because of a staph infection for IV antibiotics. (My mom thinks it was because she had bad back labor and was rocking on hands and knees on the floor. Of course, no one offered her to wash her hands and then she held me when I was born. A new policy about handwashing was set in the hospital after that. Mom is also a nurse.) I've also been hospitalized 3 times for dehydration/fistulas related to Crohn's disease. In fact, most of the weight I have gained has been due to prednisone, which I am no longer taking.

Phobia: Spiders!

Question you ask yourself a lot: How am I going to come up with all the money I need for closing costs, appliaces, etc?!?!? (Answer: Pick up extra hours at work!)

Religious affiliation: none

Siblings: 1 younger brother, Phil, who is an electrical engineer and lives in Ohio.

Time I wake up: Typically between 11am and 1pm (gotta love weird shifts!)

Unnatural hair color: Believe it or not, it's currently all natural. But, when I do change my hair color, strawberry blondish.

Vegetable I refuse to eat: Anything that comes from a can. Yucky!

Worst habit: Being lazy! I work so hard on the days I work (I average 10-12 thousand steps per shift), that I tend to be a couch potato on my days off, but I'm working on that.

Yummy food I make: Potato salad. (It's the best!)

Zodiac sign: Virgo

Sorry it has taken me so long to post on here. So far this week, I am on plan (WW), but not doing so well on exercise. I've been having problems with an ingrown toenail and it's all I can do to get through work. But, I'm 4.8 lbs down this week! Yay! Hopefully exercise will go better next week.

Cool! I never knew there were get-to-know you questions. Here's mine:

Accent: umm.. upstate New York??? It's kind of a vanilla accent if you ask me.

Best Friend: I'm blessed with many. The regulars are Kara, Heather, Holly, Michelle, Alicia, Laura, and Ashley.

Chore I hate: Washing dishes.

Dad's name: Mike.

Essential make-up product: Lip gloss!

Favorite perfume: Water Lilly rose.

Gold or silver? Silver

Hometown: Rochester, NY while at home, Buffalo, NY while at college

Interesting fact: I'm 6'3" and play 2 college NCAA Division III sports

Job title: College student, currently seeking a summer job

Kids: None.

Living arrangements: While at college I live in the school dorms. For the summer I will be living at my house with my mom and dad.

Mom's birthplace: Buffalo, NY

Number of apples eaten in the last week: None.

Overnight hospital stays: 1. I had my appendix removed when I was 3.

Phobia: Mayonnaise. It's not healthy anyways, so I guess its a blessing in disguise.

Question you ask yourself a lot: What???

Religious affiliation: Roman Catholic

Siblings: 1 brother, age 19

Time I wake up: around 9am

Natural hair color: Dirty blonde, currently dyed platinum blonde

Vegetable I refuse to eat: Squash

Worst habit: Eating when I am bored.

X-tra info? I'm really random.

Yummy food I make: It usually involves a microwave.

Zodiac sign: Sagittarius

I really need to get up do my pilates and mow the lawn, but American Pie 2 is on...hehe! I cant seem to pull myself away from it. I need to make a deal with myself...do pilates and mow the lawn then watch the movie! So far its not working.....

Everyone have a great day!

So, does anyone else get really into the movies/TV shows they watch while working out and like laugh (or have whatever other reaction) to yourself, causing people to think you are crazy? I do this a lot, but I was watching ET last night, and I seriously could not stop laughing. I forgot how much I loved that movie. I felt like kind of a weirdo though, because I was laughing on the treadmill.
